Album Description

Ten one-minute songs that whip and weave around all the band's influences, but ultimately stand as independent, original, and cohesive. Sounds range from sludgy to sweet to pseudo-slip-hop, to confused fuzz fumbling. This young trio has already toured with The White Stripes, The Dirtbombs, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. For fans of Sonic Youth, Beck, and Brainiac.

5 out of 5 stars Just enough time to pull out........2006-07-13

When I first found this, I was super excited. I haden't heard any material from the Heat since Do Rabbits Wonder, which absolutly rocks. My initial reaction to the first song was, "Wow, they really... grew up." But still in a fun way. 60 seconds later, it was the Whirlwind Heat I was used to. The sheer find of the album at a Virgin Megastore kind of hid the fact that it was, in fact, an EP with ten one-minute songs.
It's definately a more diverse effort than their first release. If you're a fan of sporadic changes of all kind mixed with the craziest Moog fest you've ever heard, this is definatly a winner.

3 out of 5 stars Whirlwind Heat: Flamingo Honey (Dim Mak).......2005-11-14

Experiments with music has always been kind of a saddening idea in music, because it means goodbye to the old sound and the way you love it. But sometimes, an experiment can just be a self-testing, which was why it was always in Whirlwind Heat's nature. It was also the reason little amount of people who like music take them as seriously. Only Whirlwind heat would name all of their songs after colors, and only them would they write 10 songs in 10 minutes. Quite a feat, ain't it? It's a lot better than getting short 30 second clips in stores, ain't it? Aye ca-friggin-ramba. Think of it as an EP where you are listening to clips of what is to come with another album. That is what I love to do. "The Bone" starts off kind of 80's New Wave-like which, to tell you the truth, is a shame to lose in 1 minute.

After "The Bone" comes the wild and frantic "Meat Packers". If there is ever a reason to buy this album, "Meat Packers", despite it being kind of messy, it keeps time conscious. "Lazy Morning" is one of the best pieces because it sounds like an actual morning song made from electrical piano. And to try and capture an entire day in 1 minute is kind of difficult.

The thing you have to love about this album is that this is one of the albums that is very fun to listen to and fun to experiment on your own. And it also may be pointless, but so is writing 69 songs about love (Magnetic Fields). So that you won't be able o say it is a total waste of your time, Flamingo Honey isn't a total waste of your money. But a simple follow to a command to try their talents and their hand at originality again. Just don't expect it to change your life, as much as it could broaden it with ideas.

Ratting: 6/10

2 out of 5 stars Questionable.......2005-03-06

I just bought this album today, and I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. Sure, the idea of 10 one minute songs was original, but it's kind of a cheap gimmick. Plus, theres not much music when you cut out all the noise. What there was, I enjoyed, but full price for this is ridiculous, it's more of a single. Whirlwind Heat is still great, this was just... well, listen to the clips on Amazon, its half the album.

5 out of 5 stars Flamingo Honey = Better than everything........2004-08-27

Whirlwind Heat have improved upon the potential that "do rabbits wonder?" had, and have made some of the best music since...forever. Each song stops at or around 1 minute, and sound fresh and energetic. the pleasant start of the album, "the bone", glides along until brutally transitioning into "meat packers", and never stops pummeling you until the lovely closer, "lazy morning". david, brad and steve are having the time of their lives, and it shows.
