This CD Should Be Top of the Charts.......2004-05-20

Ths record was a surprise the first time I heard it. At first I thought it was just a great pop record. Ten nice songs..the catchy ones I'd heard before on our local college radio station, but then I realized that it's a treasure chest of emotions and cool grooves. It's really a pop/rock/Soul record. The opening song is Mr. Sympathy. All pop and soul, until the guitars change from horn parts to crushing power chords. The next song is a rock ballad, then a pure candy pop song, then an indie rock song, then an R&B song, then a power rock ballad called Deceiving that is so sweet and heavey..that's the one that convinced me this was a great record. I could go on, but there's just too much to say.

Looking at the liner notes it says that Mike McCready from Pearl Jam played on one song, and Carrie Akre from Goodness sang as well. It makes sense that these folks added their touch, considering the overall quality.

This is one of those jems that all the hardcore music listeners will figure out long before the rest of the world catches up. Thank you Amateur Boyfriend for the rich music you do so well.
