I DONT THINK SO!! These guys are far beyong hair metal - they are true heavy metal and not that false metal stuff - this stuff is actually rockin' and heavy. W.A.S.P. gets unfortunate genre-ing of hair metal just because of what they look but these guys bang their heads and go crazy! Just like Motley Crue, they are HEAVY METAL and not HAIR METAL!!! Get it right people - it's about the music man

No one who wasn't alive when this album was released should leave a review, because this was symbolic of the period in rock-n-roll (call it hair-band, I prefer to call it Metal) that a lot of us grew up listening to. Comparing this to modern metal is like comparing Johnny Cash to Alan Jackson...each is great in its own time, in its own way! And if you are thinking of buying this album, DO IT!!! it rocks! and also pick up the first album (self titled) WASP. I snuck into the office in high school, locked the door, and played the whole song "school daze" over the intercom before they stopped me. Later!

when you put this album on, look out for flying rump roasts! seriously, because your enraged neighbors will be throwing rump roasts or anything else at you that they can find. and original guitarist chris holmes was knocked out by one in europe when blackie said they were going to play animal (f--- like a beast). to sum it all up, this is a nasty a$$ band. if you like metal and hard rock, this definitely belongs in your collection, but don't get it if you like softy crap like van halen.

I was looking for their greatest hits or both albums on cd. Some sellers wanted more for one than you can get this set for. This is the way to go if you plan on getting both.

Since this a two disc set, I'll divide my review into two sections:

W.A.S.P.:
This is a very strong start for the band. "I Wanna Be Somebody" is the first track and grabs you by the throat. Another great highlight is "School Daze." Anyone who spent time in a public school system can relate to it. "L.O.V.E. Machine"
is another great classic. It's very catchy. All the other songs are great, but don't seem to be much different lyrically from other 80's metal bands witht he exception of the last two tracks. "Tormentor" is catchy, but not really that good. "The Torture Never Stops" is a great closer.

The Last Command:
It's a great follow up. In fact, W.A.S.P. takes it up a notch with songs like "Ballcrusher" and "Sex Drive." You'll also find great ones like "Blind in Texas," "The Last Command,"
and "Running Wild In the Streets." Those three manage to catch the power and attitude of the band while at the same time remaing air play friendly.

Overall, it's really a good way to introduce yourself to W.A.S.P.

This is an awesome double cd set of W.A.S.P's first two albums. Both cds are great. It doesnt have the bonus tracks either. Just the original songs from the album. I recommend this to someone who doest have either of them but does want them.

I would break down the WASP sound into two categories: Hard-edged and Classic.

The three hard-edged CD's I would recommend to any metal fan are:
- The Crimson Idol (The best by far!)
- Headless Children
- K.F.D.

The four WASP classic-sound CD's I would recommend to any metal fan are:

- Still Not Black Enough
- The Last Command
- Dying For the World

Rare Bonus Tracks, Photos, & Articles Complete This Package.......2001-09-29

If you have all or some of these three albums on LP and are wondering if it is worth the money buying this set, I'll answer the question for you: YES! Each of these CDs have killer bonus tracks, many of which are as good as the album tracks. What's more, each CD booklet includes pics of the band, covers of their singles, and magazine covers plus interesting articles by Kerrang writer Dante Bonutto and reflections by none other than Blackie Lawless, himself! This package is a must have for W.A.S.P. fans as well as fans of the early 80s metal before it became tarnished by a wave of "poser" bands. The only thing that would make this package more complete would be the addition of Electric Circus. Its absence shows an aversion to that period, which is unfortunate. Although it did not represent their best work, Circus did have some excellent tracks to offer such as "Restless Gypsy" and "I'm Alive" and may have spawned more bonus tracks.

the bonus songs make this a must buy for any w.a.s.p fan. who has a record player anymore to play the old singles? the albums sound better than ever. some of the songs are a little dated, as far as lyric's go , but 90% of it beats any of the so called metal that is out now. the only bad thing about this box set is the live "blind in texas" track. it has a fan singing.it's pretty lame. i get the point, but rather not listen to it. other than that one track, these cd's have not left my rotation in weeks. these cd's still get me going. rock on!

Who says there is a sophmore jinx?.......2007-05-29

Fresh off the heels of their self-titled debut, W.A.S.P. come right back with their sophmore album "The Last Command." Now there is some worry in the sports as well as entertainment business where people will suffer a sophmore jinx in which they won't have good follow-up material from their previous outings. This album proves that even if the jinx existed... W.A.S.p. are the exception to that rule!

1. Wild Child - A killer track to open the album with. It shows that the band has the same cutting edge as they had on their last album, but lyrically and instrumentaly they have grown. Evident right away is the emotion put forth in the track. Awesome song to get us started. 5/5

2. Ball Crusher - This is a song that is just very fun and energetic. Showing that they continuie to have a fun side and just enjoy themselves. May take awhile to get into, but well worth the patience. 4/5

3. Firstful of Diamonds - Awesome song with awesome guitar work! Vocals match beautifully and the whole song just seems to gel. Somehow it seems to fit on the album perfectly as well, not quite shock-rock and shows how the band has grown, but also fun and upbeat. 4/5

4. Jack Action - Another track that is just pure fun and energy. Although I like the song, I do feel that this was perhaps left over material from their debut. Goes hand in hand with their song "School Daze" as it does rock, but really goes nowhere. 3.5/5

5. Widowmaker - One of the bnest songs on the album in my opinion! Shows elements of a darker side of the band which come into play later in their careers. Remains catchy while it takes that dark turn. This shows just how well the song writing had developed between this album and the debut. 5/5

6. Blind In Texas - Perhaps the best known song off the album. A shout-out anthem to the lonestar state! Awesome track with awesome work from all of the guys. One can tell however, that thjis song was made to be played on the radio as the lyrics don't run to deep and the song is just a fun rocking tune! 4.5/5

7. Cries In The Night - This song is another that may take the listener some time to get into, as it did for me. A song that shows elements of dark and dreary emotion but is stil fun in a way. One of the under-rated gems on the album. 4/5

8. The Last Command - The title track of the album. A pure awesome song that is W.A.S.P. at their best! Everything just seemed to flow together and nothing seemed forced here. A pure gem, and I think another under-rated song on the album. 5/5

9. Running Wild In The Streets - Although I like this song, I feel the placement of it on the album is very poor. In my opinion, this song should have gone earlier in the album as it lacks substance, but is catchy. Perhaps putting it right before "Blind In Texas" or "Ball Crusher" would have worked better. Like I said, it is a good song but I feel it gets lost in the shuffle being where it's placed. 3.5/5

10. Sex Drive - This song in some ways seems to not fit with the rest of the album, but at the same time works perfectly. A fun and energetic song that is an awesome way to end an album. In essence it brings the listener right back to the beginning with "Wild Child." Great song. 3.5/5

I won't cover the bonus tracks as most of them are just live renditions of songs they already have done. However, two songs "Mississippi Queen" which is a very well-done cover song, and "Savage" which is just pure W.A.S.P. show that the band was really entering their top-form right around this time.

Overall, an awesome album and really a W.A.S.P. classic that all fans should own!

The Last Command.......2004-06-21

In 1985 W.A.S.P. released their second album "The Last Command" which was a minor hit with a couple of tracks that had popular videos on mtv, those being Wild Child and Blind in Texas.Considering the 1980's was when this kind of music ruled the charts,it disappoints that this group was not more popular than they where. While they aren't those most talented band in the world songs like Ballcrusher, Fistful of Diamonds, Widowmaker,Cries in the Night, Wild Child, and Blind in Texas, are much better than anything from the 80's metal bands that ruled the radio. WASP is a killer band, who put out many great albums, do yourself a favor and by this CD you will not be disappointed. 1990's issues of this album have bonus cuts. The original Capitol records release only contained 10 songs.

S-s-s-SAVAGE!!!.......2003-11-24

The second WASP album, and another incredibly solid effort. If you are a hard rock fan, you must not miss this one. Once again the weakest track is a cover (Mississippi Queen)...but the rest are ALL great.

Wild Child was the song that got me into WASP...and the more I listened the more I was amazed at Blackie's inability to write a bad tune. He writes memorable chorus after chorus and his three part vocal attack is wicked. They say less is more and that is definitely the case when it comes to the guitar side of WASP songs...chords crashing as a backdrop to Blackie's fantastic vocals is perfect...yet the solos always rip.

I don't think I could ever say a bad thing about this (in fact the first 3 WASP albums). Even the cover is awesome!

Yes the lyrics can be cheesy but they were, for the most part, never intended to be profound (at least not in the early days).

And I'd have to disagree with one of the reviews below that says 'Savage' is not worth listening to. It is one of my favorite WASP tunes...the chorus is bloody great...and the verses are as always, good for a laugh ("Tazmanian devil...I'll eat you alive...") Mwahahaha.

The inclusion of 5 songs from the Live at The Lyceum set was a nice touch and makes this album even more monstrous than it already was. Those of you who have seen videos of the songs know how awesome that show was...

A LITTLE LESS IS MORE WITH MORE FINESE!.......2001-10-02

Many artists can fail to follow up with equal abandon with release number two especially when its predecessor was a barn stormer. W.A.S.P certainly delivered everything and more with 'The Last Command'. The delivery of 'more' in this case being a more refined style of writing. The songs demonstrate a little if not too much maturity. Ensuring that the band was seen to be growing and could improve seemed paramount in Blackie's mind as collectively they stretched their wings. This release prooves without a doubt that this band was a lot more than fake blood and stage props. 'Wild Child' lauches right out to meet you being both subtle and hauntingly atmospheric. Hands down the BEST song this band has produced a sonic treat that has inspired lyrics and enough musical sounds swooping in from all sides of the room to have you ducking your head in panic. Just incase you felt betrayed by the change of direction the band had opened this monster with 'Ball Crusher' arrives to let you know that no matter how deep things may get W.A.S.P will always be animals at heart and that gut wrenching emotion would remain essential. And that really is why this disc is so good and enjoyable to listen to. Basically 'The Last Command' has an ample balance of light and shade throughout. 'Widow Maker' sister of 'Wild Child' can sit along side 'Fistful Of Diamonds' son of 'Jack Action' without issue or by feeling disjointed. Two rally to arms songs being the title track and 'Running Wild In The Streets' offer a insight to the creative ideas the band would explore in later years and add value to the strength of side two. 'Blind In Texas' certainly is the most famous song on offer on that side and many W.A.S.P fans may disagree with me, but I think it is a weak link here but that is only my opinion. Now on the other hand 'Cries In The Night' a heart felt ballad is a classic moment to me and maybe that sums things up nicely. A little bit of everything for everyone and not too much of the same. Buy as an essential item and enjoy at peak volume ranges!

GOOD, BUT NOT THEIR BEST.......2001-05-03

I like this record. It certainly has it's place in history and is a classic among the party rock released in the mid 80's. I think that the songwriting is kind of simple (not that this makes for a bad song!) and the lyrics are a bit too cheesy to take at times. The energy is right there, and songs like Wild Child, WidowMaker, Blind in Texas and others will live for a long time as people's personal favorites. The live stuff at the end isn't all that great, but thanks for the cool addition. Any WASP is cool WASP and we are happy for any extras we can get. This is a very cool album, but it sounds a bit dated, where Headless, Crimson, and Still Not Black Enough still sound fresher than anything put out today. It is a must have, I just like other records better.

Who says there is a sophmore jinx?.......2007-05-29

Fresh off the heels of their self-titled debut, W.A.S.P. come right back with their sophmore album "The Last Command." Now there is some worry in the sports as well as entertainment business where people will suffer a sophmore jinx in which they won't have good follow-up material from their previous outings. This album proves that even if the jinx existed... W.A.S.p. are the exception to that rule!

1. Wild Child - A killer track to open the album with. It shows that the band has the same cutting edge as they had on their last album, but lyrically and instrumentaly they have grown. Evident right away is the emotion put forth in the track. Awesome song to get us started. 5/5

2. Ball Crusher - This is a song that is just very fun and energetic. Showing that they continuie to have a fun side and just enjoy themselves. May take awhile to get into, but well worth the patience. 4/5

3. Firstful of Diamonds - Awesome song with awesome guitar work! Vocals match beautifully and the whole song just seems to gel. Somehow it seems to fit on the album perfectly as well, not quite shock-rock and shows how the band has grown, but also fun and upbeat. 4/5

4. Jack Action - Another track that is just pure fun and energy. Although I like the song, I do feel that this was perhaps left over material from their debut. Goes hand in hand with their song "School Daze" as it does rock, but really goes nowhere. 3.5/5

5. Widowmaker - One of the bnest songs on the album in my opinion! Shows elements of a darker side of the band which come into play later in their careers. Remains catchy while it takes that dark turn. This shows just how well the song writing had developed between this album and the debut. 5/5

6. Blind In Texas - Perhaps the best known song off the album. A shout-out anthem to the lonestar state! Awesome track with awesome work from all of the guys. One can tell however, that thjis song was made to be played on the radio as the lyrics don't run to deep and the song is just a fun rocking tune! 4.5/5

7. Cries In The Night - This song is another that may take the listener some time to get into, as it did for me. A song that shows elements of dark and dreary emotion but is stil fun in a way. One of the under-rated gems on the album. 4/5

8. The Last Command - The title track of the album. A pure awesome song that is W.A.S.P. at their best! Everything just seemed to flow together and nothing seemed forced here. A pure gem, and I think another under-rated song on the album. 5/5

9. Running Wild In The Streets - Although I like this song, I feel the placement of it on the album is very poor. In my opinion, this song should have gone earlier in the album as it lacks substance, but is catchy. Perhaps putting it right before "Blind In Texas" or "Ball Crusher" would have worked better. Like I said, it is a good song but I feel it gets lost in the shuffle being where it's placed. 3.5/5

10. Sex Drive - This song in some ways seems to not fit with the rest of the album, but at the same time works perfectly. A fun and energetic song that is an awesome way to end an album. In essence it brings the listener right back to the beginning with "Wild Child." Great song. 3.5/5

I won't cover the bonus tracks as most of them are just live renditions of songs they already have done. However, two songs "Mississippi Queen" which is a very well-done cover song, and "Savage" which is just pure W.A.S.P. show that the band was really entering their top-form right around this time.

Overall, an awesome album and really a W.A.S.P. classic that all fans should own!

The Last Command.......2004-06-21

In 1985 W.A.S.P. released their second album "The Last Command" which was a minor hit with a couple of tracks that had popular videos on mtv, those being Wild Child and Blind in Texas.Considering the 1980's was when this kind of music ruled the charts,it disappoints that this group was not more popular than they where. While they aren't those most talented band in the world songs like Ballcrusher, Fistful of Diamonds, Widowmaker,Cries in the Night, Wild Child, and Blind in Texas, are much better than anything from the 80's metal bands that ruled the radio. WASP is a killer band, who put out many great albums, do yourself a favor and by this CD you will not be disappointed. 1990's issues of this album have bonus cuts. The original Capitol records release only contained 10 songs.

S-s-s-SAVAGE!!!.......2003-11-24

The second WASP album, and another incredibly solid effort. If you are a hard rock fan, you must not miss this one. Once again the weakest track is a cover (Mississippi Queen)...but the rest are ALL great.

Wild Child was the song that got me into WASP...and the more I listened the more I was amazed at Blackie's inability to write a bad tune. He writes memorable chorus after chorus and his three part vocal attack is wicked. They say less is more and that is definitely the case when it comes to the guitar side of WASP songs...chords crashing as a backdrop to Blackie's fantastic vocals is perfect...yet the solos always rip.

I don't think I could ever say a bad thing about this (in fact the first 3 WASP albums). Even the cover is awesome!

Yes the lyrics can be cheesy but they were, for the most part, never intended to be profound (at least not in the early days).

And I'd have to disagree with one of the reviews below that says 'Savage' is not worth listening to. It is one of my favorite WASP tunes...the chorus is bloody great...and the verses are as always, good for a laugh ("Tazmanian devil...I'll eat you alive...") Mwahahaha.

The inclusion of 5 songs from the Live at The Lyceum set was a nice touch and makes this album even more monstrous than it already was. Those of you who have seen videos of the songs know how awesome that show was...

A LITTLE LESS IS MORE WITH MORE FINESE!.......2001-10-02

Many artists can fail to follow up with equal abandon with release number two especially when its predecessor was a barn stormer. W.A.S.P certainly delivered everything and more with 'The Last Command'. The delivery of 'more' in this case being a more refined style of writing. The songs demonstrate a little if not too much maturity. Ensuring that the band was seen to be growing and could improve seemed paramount in Blackie's mind as collectively they stretched their wings. This release prooves without a doubt that this band was a lot more than fake blood and stage props. 'Wild Child' lauches right out to meet you being both subtle and hauntingly atmospheric. Hands down the BEST song this band has produced a sonic treat that has inspired lyrics and enough musical sounds swooping in from all sides of the room to have you ducking your head in panic. Just incase you felt betrayed by the change of direction the band had opened this monster with 'Ball Crusher' arrives to let you know that no matter how deep things may get W.A.S.P will always be animals at heart and that gut wrenching emotion would remain essential. And that really is why this disc is so good and enjoyable to listen to. Basically 'The Last Command' has an ample balance of light and shade throughout. 'Widow Maker' sister of 'Wild Child' can sit along side 'Fistful Of Diamonds' son of 'Jack Action' without issue or by feeling disjointed. Two rally to arms songs being the title track and 'Running Wild In The Streets' offer a insight to the creative ideas the band would explore in later years and add value to the strength of side two. 'Blind In Texas' certainly is the most famous song on offer on that side and many W.A.S.P fans may disagree with me, but I think it is a weak link here but that is only my opinion. Now on the other hand 'Cries In The Night' a heart felt ballad is a classic moment to me and maybe that sums things up nicely. A little bit of everything for everyone and not too much of the same. Buy as an essential item and enjoy at peak volume ranges!

GOOD, BUT NOT THEIR BEST.......2001-05-03

I like this record. It certainly has it's place in history and is a classic among the party rock released in the mid 80's. I think that the songwriting is kind of simple (not that this makes for a bad song!) and the lyrics are a bit too cheesy to take at times. The energy is right there, and songs like Wild Child, WidowMaker, Blind in Texas and others will live for a long time as people's personal favorites. The live stuff at the end isn't all that great, but thanks for the cool addition. Any WASP is cool WASP and we are happy for any extras we can get. This is a very cool album, but it sounds a bit dated, where Headless, Crimson, and Still Not Black Enough still sound fresher than anything put out today. It is a must have, I just like other records better.
