Released in 1992 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of Dr. No, this two-disc set still stands as the ultimate Bond music collection. Disc one includes all of the hit songs from the Bond films, including Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger," Tom Jones's "Thunderball," Paul McCartney & Wings' "Live & Let Die" and Sheena Easton's "For Your Eyes Only." Disc two includes Louis Armstrong's lovely "We Have All the Time in the World," as well as a nice collection of rarities (Anthony Newley's demo of "Goldfinger"), lesser-known orchestral cuts from Goldfinger and Thunderball, and radio ads for You Only Live Twice, Thunderball, and Live & Let Die. The perfect accompaniment for a martini built for two. Shaken not stirred, of course! --Dan Epstein

5 out of 5 stars 007 forever and ever.......2007-05-13

whether played by Sean CONNERY, Roger MOORE, George LAZENBY, Timothy DALTON, Pierce BROSNAN, Daniel CRAIG, or even by David NIVEN in the sixsties comedy 007 CASINO' ROYALE (1967), James BOND is the greatest spy ever!!! So it's his music!!!!

5 out of 5 stars The Best of James Bond 30th Anniversary.......2007-02-11

Wonderful music, an enjoyment for any James Bond fan.

3 out of 5 stars Good effort..........2007-02-09

The 1st cd is the most enjoyable (vocal track's)...the 2nd start's out listenable and then seem's to bog down with very repetative formula's.

5 out of 5 stars A CD No James Bond Fan Should Be Without........2007-01-13

As someone who has been a huge James Bond since before he could walk, you can bet I love every aspect of the films, including the music. Many of the theme songs to the films are classics, while the ones that have slipped under the radar remain awesome underrated numbers.

In 1992, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of 1962's "Dr. No", the 2 cd "The Best Of James Bond" was released. Itr included all the theme songs for the movies from 1962's "Dr. No" up to 1989's "License To Kill", as well as a second disc of rarities.

This is an excellent compilation that all 007 fans must have in their collection. You get all the classic Bond themes, such as Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger", Paul McCartney & Wings' "Live And Let Die", Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better", Sheena Easton's "For Your Eyes Only", and Duran Duran'a "A View To A Kill", as well as some lesser heard but equally great songs, such as Nancy Sinatra's luscious theme for "You Only Live Twice", Bassey's sexy rendering of "Diamonds Are Forever" and her mysterious, sweet "Moonraker", Lulu's thrilling "The Man With The Golden Gun", Rita Coolidge's glorious "All Time High", and a-ha's excellent "The Living Daylights". There are a few rough spots (Tom Jones' over the top "Thunderball" and Gladys Knight's awful "License To Kill"), but other than that, it's a nearly flawless compilation.

The second disc is a great treat for hardcore Bond fans. For starters, you get several radio spots for "You Only Live Twice", "Thunderball" and "Live And Let Die", some great instrumental scores, two different recordings of the scrapped "Thunderball" theme song "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (sung by Dionne Warwick and Shirley Bassey, respectively), Anthony Newley's boring but coll to have early demo of "Goldfinger", and best of all, Louis Armstrong's absolutely beautiful "We Have All The Time In The World", one of the loveliest songs in music.

It's true that there were Bond films made after 1992 (five to be exact). But as far as their theme songs go, only Tina Turner's theme for "Goldeneye" and Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" (from the recent "Casino Royale"), are worth having. My advice is to get this excellent two cd and download the 2 later numnbers. Then, you will truly have all the best of James Bond.

This is a great CD...To hear such a legend....Her live performances are still great also....Thanks for making this CD available for the ones who still appreciate the older music....

5 out of 5 stars All you need is Love.......2006-08-12

OK, so which one of you other reviewers has MY copy of this CD, that I loaned out to a friend 10 (?) years ago? Well, I can get (am getting) another. My collection is mostly jazz, but I grew up on r&b and have a few standouts: The Impressions, Ike & Tina Turner, etc., and Ms Love is right up there.

4 out of 5 stars tap218.......2002-12-24

i first heard darlene love in 1962 when she sang he's a rebel although the crystals received credit for the song i didn't realize that phil spector had darlene sing the song eventhough she wasn't a member of the group. i guess phil could do pretty much what he wanted back then! this alblum demonstrates not only the wonderful voice darlene possessed but the creativity of phil spector. his musical arrangements a perfect blend of guitars, saxaphones, percussion, backupsingers and the best studio drummer there was in hal blaine.i truly enjoy most of the songs on this alblum, but my favorite is zip a dee doo dah. this song is just a great off beat rendition of an old classic.once again the band and darlene simply compliment eachother.i just wish it was about 5 minutes longer! i rated this alblum 4 stars because there are some songs i just can't quite get into. i'm sure there are other people who would enjoy them and i do appreciate the effort put into them, but i'll listen to 11 out of 15 songs anytime!

5 out of 5 stars DARLENE LOVE WAS QUEEN OF "THE WALL OF SOUND".......2002-10-22

DARLENE LOVE HAS A VOICE THAT REALLY STANDS OUT. WHETHER YOU HEAR HER AS BACK-UP TO ELVIS PRESLEY, DICK DALE AND THE DELTONES(LISTEN TO THE MAN WITH THE BOSS GUITAR)YOU CAN TELL IT'S HER. SHE SANG IN SO MANY GROUPS BUT HER VOICE STOOD OUT!SHE DID HOWEVER MANAGE, THROUGH PHIL SPECTOR, TO RELASE SOME SINGLES UNDER HER OWN NAME.HER BIGGEST AND FIRST SOLO HIT WAS "TODAY I MET THE BOY I'M GONNA MARRY".WHAT A SOUND THAT WAS!! I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT SEVERAL COPIES BECAUSE I KNEW I'D WEAR THEM OUT. HER VOICE HOWEVER STANDS OUT BIG- TIME IN "HE'S A REBEL" SINGING LEAD WITH THE CRYSTALS. EVERYBOY LOVED TO DANCE TO THAT ONE IN THE 60'S! DARLENE HAD ORIGINALLY STARTED OUT SINGING GOSPEL AND THE STRENGTH IS HEARD IN ALL HER SONGS. I'VE BOUGHT EVERYTHING SHE EVER PUT OUT. THERE ARE STILL CUTS OUT THERE THAT HAVEN'T BEEN RELEASED WITH THE BLOSSOMS . ALL IN ALL THIS C.D. IS EXCELLENT AND NOT TO BE MISSED!!!DARLEN LOVE WAS QUEEN OF PHIL SPECTOR'S "WALL OF SOUND".

4 out of 5 stars A Nostalgic Tribute To A Underappreciated Singer........2002-09-13

Darlene Love is an underrated 60's girl-group performer that did not get enough attention. Darlene shows off some of her greatest songs on this CD. In my own opinion, this displays Darlene at her 1960's point where she was a rising star. I would've like to have seen more of her Broadway work on the CD...but her theatre career was short-lived. I love Darlene, she's a wonderful woman.

This exemplary collection is full of music as ravishing as In the Wee Small Hours or Kind of Blue. Mixing radio staples (the Flamingos' definitive version of "I Only Have Eyes for You") with less-heard classics (the Cadillacs' "Gloria," the Velvetones' "Glory of Love"), Doo Wop Ballads brings the sound of the street corner home to the quiet corners of romance. Essential to the development of later decades' soul music, the sounds herein are also a reminder that these '50s teenagers and young adults indeed laid a claim on our hearts as unyielding as those of Frank or Miles. --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars Indispensible.......2007-05-14

You're not going to want to hear this everyday, but this is prime catalogue stuff you'll want to have around for listens whenever you are in the mood for some doowop balladry. Separate it from its overplayed familiarity on radio, and you have distinct artistry that won't ever be duplicated. There is some genius here.

5 out of 5 stars best of the oldies.......2005-10-08

I throughly enjoyed this CD. I am so glad I decided to purchase it. But how could I turn it down with some of my favorites on it ,like Jimmy Beaumont and The Skyliners, The Moonglows, The Flamingos and The Spaniels? I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect introduction to doo wop (along with the Uptempo collection).......2005-08-28

Doo Wop is now an extinct subgenre of rock 'n' roll, but its influence still lives on. Since Doo Wop was, lke all 50s rock 'n' roll, a singles genre, its hard to find a good album to help you get into the genre. Rhino's two volumes from 1989 are the perfect answer (unless you have enough money to pick up the Doo Wop box). Every song here is a certified classic, and this is a great way to have those great oldies in your collection. There are a few songs that stand out to most listeners. "In the Still of the Night" contains harmonies that could put any one of these modern R&B artists to shame. "My True Story" is almost uptempo with its "cry, cry, cry" chorus. "Earth Angel" is possibly the most popular oldie song ever made. Its not my favorite, but it certainly was groundbreaking in the Doo Wop genre. "Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight" is the perfect way to close out the album. This is beautiful music that should be in every collection.

5 out of 5 stars I remember..........2004-01-25

This is a great CD. It features all the best known doo wop ballads, plus a few that aren't so well known. There are tons of great vocals here. If you are a fan of vocal harmony, you should definitely get this CD.

5 out of 5 stars GOING, GOING, GONE.......2003-07-09

This is the first doo wop CD I've heard that includes the songs I remember listing to when they weren't oldies. It is nice to hear them with out radio personality Jerry Blavat interupting. Buy it, this CD is a home run.

4 out of 5 stars Pop rock and hard rock from the 1970s.......2007-06-29

Mungo Jerry appeared on the scene in 1970 with their irresistible bubblegum boogie hit In The Summertime, a song that took the world by storm with its simple hypnotic riffs and its catchy tune. It went top ten in both the UK and the USA.

The next year they scored big again with Baby Jump, Lady Rose and You Don't Have To Be In The Army To Fight In The War, all catchy numbers with the same buoyant pop rhythms, engaging melodies and soulful vocals as Summertime. In 1973 they had more hits with Alright Alright Alright and Long Legged Woman.

Their happy mix of prominent piano, guitars and banjo gave them a unique and appealing sound on those hit singles. I would call it folk-pop, but the vocals had a distinct bluesy rock feel and some of these tracks are pure hard rock, though still with a bluesy, at times acid rock, undertone.

This is a good, but not comprehensive collection, as it omits the band's minor successes like Johnny B Bad and Maggie. Besides the aforementioned hits, my other favorites on this album are Wild Love and San Francisco Bay Blues. This music is a beautiful reminder of the colourful variety of styles that flourished in the UK in the early 1970s.

5 out of 5 stars SUPRISING!.... .......2007-01-25

I was told that I had to check out Mungo Jerry not to long ago and I decided to give it a whirl. I was only aware of the obvious hit IN THE SUMMERTIME, as I think that it must have been the only single ever released in the U.S.
That tune is very well known, and always established the band as a rag tag type of music... like an old time western saloon type of gimmick. What I discovered was that these guys had some downright rockin' songs, that recieve very little attention. Songs like BABY JUMP and WILD LOVE are awesome, and sound nothing like the Mungo Jerry that I ever heard before. The singer goes down low on the vocals, and almost rasps out the bars... "she's a cat, she's a kitten..." and so forth.
The dude below me says that he didn't like the fact that it was too rockin', but I think it was great. I was very pleasantly suprised with the sound of this disc. LADY ROSE has sort of an early T. Rex glammed up sound, and sounds closer to the familiar sound that I knew of before, but there are gems all over this one, like a nine minute cover of I JUST WANNA MAKE LOVE TO YOU, crazy. I can't believe the change in styles, but it actually works.
This is packaged like a cheap collection of a band that never had any real hits, but there is a lot of heaviness behind it, and showed me Mungo Jerry in a whole new light. An awesome find.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2006-06-20

If you know Mungo Jerry, as I did, from the two most popular songs (In the Summertime and Lady Rose) and you are expecting more of the same on this album, you'll be disappointed. Unlike those two upbeat, catchy pop songs, the remainder of this album is what I would call hard rock. Too noisy and loud for me. The 9-minute long "I Just Want to Make Love to You" is almost painful to listen to; it includes a lot of what I would call "screetching". San Francisco Bay Blues is not bad and "You Don't Have to Be in the Army to Fight in the War" isn't bad either. The remainder of the songs are just too hard rock for me. Some of the songs are just weird, such as "Baby Let's Play House". It almost seems that the band couldn't quite figure out what they wanted to sound like and did some experimenting, hoping something would work. A few things did; most things didn't. I am probably being overly generous giving 3 stars, but there are a few good songs and some interesting sounds here. Not what I was expecting. It is sometimes hard to believe the same band is playing all these songs because of the difference mixing of styles. The band should have focused on one type of song; instead they jump all over the map with mostly stuff that is not memorable and not that good. If this is the very best of Mungo Jerry, I would hate to hear the worst!!!

4 out of 5 stars A Happy Ghost.......2007-01-31

Freddy Cannon brings a lot of intense yet innocent fun to a seemingly lost era of rock n' roll in which the music is held to its most endearing and true form, that of runaway, charming and excitable fun. He sings his shiny soul loud, roaringly and smooth, without traces of societal concern.

When I go to my grandma and great uncle's house, they listen to singers like Dean Martin and other seductive, handsome-sounding vocalists, who, for them, represent a memory of what used to be contemporary pleasure and has been exchanged for memorable bliss.

This music is a little bit like that for me because, though it never was a contemporary listen for me, it had been so long since I had last heard it, it's like a time warp has occurred, and that's just the appropriate place for some serious memory-making.

When I hear Freddy's voice lifting out of my car cd player as I'm going down the highway at night, I think I see him on the side of the road, and when 'Happy Shades of Blue' comes on, he's got a lasso in one hand and a martini glass in the other.

Some say this music was a bit dangerous for the times; I think it's still dangerous for the times (and the fact that it would be at any time is unfortunate) in that there is a purity to this kind of romp so that it stands out quite a lot.

If you threw Teenage Queen of the Week onto the playlists of most classic rock stations, I wonder if they would know what to do with it and if the general manager would think it's safe enough to suit the tastes of their demographic and advertisers.

What's Going to Happen when the Summer's Done is really insightful and when Freddy asks if it will 'still be the same old you,' he's pretty sure it won't be, indicating a literar-ily true take on things, and the buzz of the number is such a party, and the Beach Boys were probably listening.

Listen to Palidades Park alongside anything recorded by a lot of well known rock bands like Aerosmith, Steve Miller or U2, and it won't come close to this heart-based sizzle.

4 out of 5 stars Long Overdue!.......2005-09-25

My review will be short and to the point. This is a very good cd. Along with the cd of his Warner Bros. recordings you have all his hits, plus more. I would like "Palisades Park" more if it included "Cuernavaca Choo Choo"; less successful, though one of his best songs (Bo Diddley fans know); and a personal fave of mine "Oh, Gloria" (b-side of "Everybody Monkey"). Maybe someday....still a great, long overdue cd. Anyone know why he was left out of the Cameo-Parkway box set?

5 out of 5 stars golden years.......2004-04-19

During the "lean" years of rock, between Elvis and the Beatles there was much good music coming from the U.S (I fail to understand what was so lean about those golden years). And this guy was great fun and great to dance to. The pirate radio station Radio Nord (the only commercial radio station in Scandinavia in the early 60's)used to play his songs and a huge favourite with listeners was the irresistible "Buzz buzz...", a real good take on Bo Diddley. And the summer of -62 would not have been rockin' without Freddys's greatest hit over here, "Palisades Park" with its pounding Wurlitzer in the background. My first record by Freddy was the EP with "Tallahassee Lassie" - and in 1959 with Paul Anka ruling the airwaves over here, it was pure rock! And so was a lot of the other ones here, like "Action". this was great party music long ago and if you want to have a good time while picking up your grandkids, put on this CD and just remember...

4 out of 5 stars Where's the "Action"?.......2000-07-15

Not as dangerous as Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis, but not as safe as Pat Boone, Freddy Cannon struck a middle ground and from 1959 to 1965 placed several songs in the Top Ten, "Tallahassie Lassie," "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans" and "Palisades Park," the latter written by Chuck "Gong Show" Barris.

This collection also includes his minor Swan hits like "Jump Over," "Transister Sister" and "Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy," the latter has Cannon treading on Bobby Darin territory by trying to update old standards with a rock 'n' roll beat.

And even album tracks like "Buzz Buzz A-Diddle-It" and "If You Were a Rock and Roll Record" can at least boil water. The only disappointment is that his final two Top 40 hits on Warners ("Abigail Beecher" and "Action"--the theme from "Where the Action Is") are not included. However, if you know and love Cannon's hits, you'll find much to like on this CD. RECOMMENDED

4 out of 5 stars A Transcendent Godfather.......2000-06-30

Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon was one of the many rock'n roll singers of the late fifties and early 60's that changed the course of American Pop Music. His chain of SWAN records helped to make the teenage experience of the era more exciting. All the cuts on this CD are original. All are as clear and clean technically as have ever been re-issued. If you are a collector of American Pop music from the late 50's and early 60's, I highly recommend this Freddie Cannon CD. You will not find the quality any better and it has many of his SWAN and WARNER BROS. hits.

5 out of 5 stars A live album I actually enjoy from beginning to end.......2006-02-17

Folks, there's a reason why this CD is called "Best of" - It's only a very small sampling of the one and *only* Woodstock Arts and Music Festival held the weekend of August 15-17, 1969 in upstate New York. Let it serve as a primer to more in-depth recordings from the event.

From beginning to end, this little CD is chock-full of music legends gone and still alive. Anyone not knowing or hearing of just about every artist on the CD just doesn't know music.

It's interesting that Woodstock was the second appearance of a new group called Crosby, Stills & Nash. The Who rocked with their rendition of "We're Not Gonna Take It" (I like the live version better than the studio version) and Santana's instrumental "Soul Sacrifice" was out of this world.

This is definitely *not* the be all and end all of the greatest outdoor concert ever held but it's a start.

2 out of 5 stars Do NOT let this one lull you into passing up the *real*, original 1970 2CD soundtrack!.......2005-12-28

All of the tracks on this CD are extracted from the classic 2CD (originally 3LP) soundtrack of the film which has been available since June 1970, ten months after the August 1969 concert occurred. Why bother getting only half of that awesome soundtrack which offers so much more in the form of excellent music, funny stage announcements, the actual sounds of the thunder and chaos during the storm, the crowd rain chant, etc.? Woodstock was about so much more than "just" what was happening onstage which this music-only CD misleads you to believe. I suggest getting this *only* if you're a completist like me and have already purchased the *real* 2CD set - otherwise you run the risk of getting this and never realizing just how much fun you've conned yourself into missing. The 2CD set is worth the price just for Sly And The Family Stone's unbelieveably incredible 12-plus-minute medley. Besides, this really isn't "The Best Of Woodstock", IMHO. For that I had to break out Audacity and stitch together my own custom set of tracks from both the original "Woodstock" and "Woodstock Two" follow-up release. If you absolutely must have "The Best Of Woodstock" on one CD, try this instead! :)

1. Canned Heat, "Going Up The Country"
2. Stage Announcements
3. Country Joe & The Fish, "Rock And Soul Music"
4. Arlo Guthrie, "Coming Into Los Angeles"
5. Country Joe McDonald, "The 'Fish' Cheer / I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag"
6. Joan Baez feat. Jerry Shurtleff, "Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man"
7. Joan Baez, "Sweet Sir Galahad"
8. Stage Announcements
9. Crosby, Stills & Nash. "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"
10. Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young, "Sea Of Madness"
11. Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young, "Marrakesh Express"
12. John B. Sebastian, "Rainbows All Over Your Blues"
13. Ten Years After, "I'm Going Home"
14. Max Yasgur's Address To The Crowd
15. Sly & The Family Stone, "Medley: Dance to the Music / Music Lover / I Want to Take You Higher"
16. Jimi Hendrix, "The Star-Spangled Banner / Purple Haze / Instrumental Solo"

5 out of 5 stars a solid soundtrack for an awesome documentary.......2005-02-04

Granted this is not the original soundtrack in some regards, this album offers for me the best of Woodstock. Seeing as though I wasnt around in 1969 (I wasnt born until 1977), first seeing the Wadleigh film got me interested not only in 60s rock but also the whole odd (yet captivating) social experiment that was hippie counterculture. This soundtrack (as well as the film) helped form my rock music tastes for now and forever. Santana's Soul Sacrifice, the Who and Hendrix at the end are songs that I definitely use the Repeat button for!

3 out of 5 stars the best is missing..........2003-04-08

Overall this is a good selection from the first Woodstock-Double-CD (or triple-LP), but it should be retitled:

"Best of Woodstock, Sly Stone not included...".

So my advice is to buy the Double-CD, because Sly's performance (almost 15 minutes, so that is maybe the reason why it isn't included on this CD) is absolutely essential!

2 out of 5 stars Butchered!!.......2001-04-04

There must be a better chronicle of the Woodstock festival than this CD. Many of the songs are severely edited. Santana's wonderful "Soul Sacrifice" is greatly shortened (you can get the full complete performance on the 30th anniversary CD of Santana's debut album), as well as Ten Years After's amazing performance of "I'm Going Home". "I'm Going Home" was MUCH longer than the version that's on this CD. They completely butchered a classic performance.

I really can't recommend this CD, it could have been so much more. They could have at least included the complete songs without editing them so drastically. It would have been much better as a 2-disc set. I have to give them kudos for including Richie Havens and Canned Heat, though.

If you want the best of Woodstock, then the 4-disc Woodstock box set would be your best bet.

Album Description

Before a teenaged Al Anderson began his 22-year run with the well-loved and prolific NRBQ, he had The Wildweeds. Big Al, as he is known, wrote most of this collection of scorching rock and soul-influenced songs. This definitive lineup of The Wildweeds never put out an LP. Thus these tracks - many never released - form a great "lost" album of the 1960s.

For Confidential Recordings' in-depth package, Big Al not only lent his full cooperation, but also provided access to his personal collection of photographs and memorabilia. In addition, Wildweeds historian Richard Brukner interviewed other original band members and scores of family, friends and fans. His resulting sixteen pages of liner notes tell the complete story of The Wildweeds.

That story is also told by the music. At the collection's core are the eight songs that comprise the entirety of The Weeds' four single records released on Chess' Cadet label. Six previously unreleased tracks round out the set, including a searing cover of The Soul Sisters classic "I Can't Stand It" and "Fuzzy Wuzzy," a red-hot, fuzzed-out original instrumental. This compilation also debuts "No Good To Cry" in stereo and instrumental versions re-mixed and re-mastered from the original multi-track tapes by original producer Thomas "Doc" Cavalier.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Best Wildweeds Compilation.......2005-11-25

To be fair, the Wildweeds were more than just Al Anderson. While "Big Al" appeared to be the driving force behind the Weeds, the other members were certainly his equal, especially Ray Zeiner and Bob Dudek.

This is the 3rd Weeds compilation I've owned and it is without a doubt, the best one. All of the Weeds' soulful singles and "B" sides are included along with other great tunes that only folks lucky enough to see them live in the late 60's got to hear. There is none of that country crap that they did during their decline, which is included on the other compilations; no need to skip ahead to the next song.

If you enjoy other white soul groups such as the Young Rascals, you will certainly enjoy the Wildweeds.

5 out of 5 stars What a treasure!!!!!.......2005-06-30

What a talent... I knew this 35 years ago... hearing these audio clips was an experience! Just buy it!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Another long overdue, overlooked gem.......2004-01-15

Everyone in the Hartford, CT. area circa the mid 60s knew and loved Al Anderson and the Wildweeds. This material represents Anderson's blues and R&B roots versus his later rockabilly and country inclinations with NRBQ and as a songwriter for hire.
The single No Good to Cry was the pinnacle of the band's short-lived career, but there are another half dozen original gems on this fine CD.

Album Description

Import collection from one of the most under-rated bands of the '60s. Led by keyboardist/main songwriter Rod Argent and vocalist Colin Blunstone, the Zombies not only were a great singles band, but they also managed to create some of the finest full lengths of the era, the most popular being their final album Odessey & Oracle from 1968. This handy collection features 18 tracks including 'Time Of The Season', 'She's Not There', 'Whenever You're Ready', 'Summertime' and 'Tell Her No'. Every track a true classic that will inspire the listener to seek out even more Zombies aural action. EMI.

Great music. Really enjoyed listening to the songs I enjoyed as a teenager. Great quality.

3 out of 5 stars Good compilation, but it's not enough.......2003-09-18

The Zombies were one of the finest rock groups of the sixties. It's no surprise they still get oldies and classic rock airplay. Needless to say, over the years, a number of compilations have been released for these guys. How does this one measure up? Read on and find out.

PROS:
-If you're the casual Zombies fan who just wants to get Time Of The Season, She's Not There, and Tell Her No on one disc, you've come to the right place!
-There are a plethora of underrated masterpieces here as well.
-You get two bonus tracks - alternative versions to two of the band's biggest hits.

CONS:
-The major problem with this compilation is that it's hard to come by. You may have to search a few stores before you find it.
-It's only fifty minutes long, and you can fit eighty minutes onto a CD.

OVERALL:
If you're a casual fan of the Zombies (and nothing more), than this compilation is recommended. These guys played REAL rock and roll, not the junk that has flooded the airwaves in the modern age.

5 out of 5 stars All the songs I wanted are here........2003-05-14

All the songs that I wanted are here:
( 1 ) Time of the Season, which can be heard on the film Awakenings, starring Robin Williams and Robert De Nero.
( 2 ) Tell Her No.
( 3 ) She's Not There.
( 4 ) Summertime. For those who are not sure that they like the operatic vocal style, i.e., Porgy and Bess, this version of Summertime is an excellent way to get your George Gershwin.

Track #14, "Whenever You're Ready," sounds a bit like "I'll be Back," from the Beatles' Hard Day's Night. Whenever You're Ready could have been a hit in its own right, in my opinion. I also believe that track #16, Remember You, could have been a hit if it had been given airplay in the 1960s.

One problem though with this compilation is that the sound quality is harsh. At times, the piano sound is distorted. The presentation of the sound also seems to lack any 3-dimensional effect. I compared She's Not There from this compilation with that on a Time-Life compilation, Classic Rock 1964. The version on the Time-Life compilation is beautiful, with a nice
3-dimensional effect in the presentation of the sound, and with no harshness whatsoever. The 5 stars go to the timeless classics, mentioned above. But the sound quality deserves two stars.

5 out of 5 stars really the best.......2000-05-21

This is the best Zombie compilation on the market today. This cd has great tracks. I'm a huge Zombies fan, and I have many of their albums. This is the one that stands out from the others. This has the rock, jazz, r&b, the works. The only other Zombies album that could come close to this one is the other Zombies best of import, but that one is too school boy if you know what I mean. I guess only true Zombies fans know what that means. This is a great look at The Zombies music.
