Uptown Top Ranking.
Best.Reggae.Song.Ever.

This is a great roots album, sounding like much of the roots music from the mid to late 70's. Sly & Robbie riddim section aboard and heavenly harmonies from Althea & Donna. A classic that needs to be in any reggae lover's collection.

Uptown Top Ranking is the Best and Top Ranking reggae song in History period . It is still on the charts in the Caribbean , U.S.A and Europe - still bubbling - still fresh - still roots - still hot - original and still rude gyul style . the new 2000-2002 video that goes with the song is the best video I have seen with the sexiest dancing - moving that waist and shaking those hips [a strong wine]- most attractive dreadlocks roots lady I have seen .

UpTown Top Ranking is a classic song by Althea & Donna which was a BIG hit in 1977. Althea Forrest and Donna Reid were 17 and 18 respectively when the song was bubbling on the charts. This cd is full of the style from the Golden Age of reggae. Althea & Donna helped blaze the trail for other female artists. Produced and engineered with Karl Pitterson at the controls. Musicians like Sly & Robbie, Earl "Chinna" Smith, Bernard "Touter" Harvey, Scully, Tommy McCook, Vin Gordon and Herman Marquis provide the crucial instrumental journey. Even though I already had the classic song (it's included on various complilations) this cd is an essential addition to my collection. This release is an All Time Classic.

Roots music.......2002-04-17

It's true...the role of woman in reggae has never achieved much more importance...reggae voices have to be male voices.....but, as everything in life...there are some exceptions...And this is one of them: althea and donna's unique album shows perfectly how to sing reggae, being backed by top ranking musicians. Enough good to buy it, or to download it.....it's worthy!!

Let the roots grab you.......2002-04-16

There is something pure and honest about these sisters of the roots. Not only do the lyrics grab you and get you moving but the horns keep you dancing. "Uptown top ranking" got me to check these womyn out I would reccomend "Sister Carol" too. We need to hear the womyn sing the tunes of the times.

Pound for pound, the best single-disc reggae compilation.......2006-06-25

From the ragged-but-right, early reggae sounds of Nicky Thomas and Peter Tosh, through the reverent roots sound of Junior Byles, to the smooth pop-reggae of Althea & Donna, this excellent compilation of Joe Gibbs-produced tracks has just about everything you could want on one compact disc. There's not a bad song in the bunch, but my personal favorites are "Maga Dog"(Tosh), "Don't Be Prejudice"(Max Romeo), "I've Got a Feeling"(Heptones), "African Queen"(Augustus Pablo), "Heart and Soul"(a really beautiful song by Byles), "A Win Them"(Leo Graham), "Uptown Top Ranking"(Althea & Donna), and version two of "Money in My Pocket"(Dennis Brown).
When you spin this disc, you won't have to worry about using the "skip" function on your CD player--it's great from start to finish. If you're buying reggae compilations as primers, another fantastic one to get is Lee "Scratch" Perry's "The Ultimate Collection" on the Hip-O label. It also features tracks by Romeo, the Heptones, Pablo, and Byles--as well as the Wailers, the Congos, George Faith, Junior Murvin, and Scratch himself.

THIS SONG TOPPED THE BRITISH CHARTS AND IS IN THE "GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD HIT SONGS", THE ARTISTES ARE THE LEGENDARY FIRST LADIES OF DJ/RAP MUSIC IN THE WORLD, "ALTHEA & DONNA". WE SINCERELY HOPE THAT THIS COMPILATION IS IN HONOR AND RESPECT OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED ACHIEVEMENTS (JUST TO MENTION A FEW) AND NOT THE USUAL ROAD TO EXPLOITATION WHICH IS PREVALENT IN THE REGGAE MUSIC INDUSTRY.
