It is not done better than this.......2005-01-15

I am a enthousiastic collector, and have almost all the Time Life rock n roll stuff, as well as Eric Records cds of this era. Although they are essential to any 50s 60s collection, nothing can top ACE series.
I could comment like this on all the 50s remasters of this fabulous record label, not only these issues, but especially the Golden Age of American Rock n roll. I can not add anything to the positive reviews than simply summing up my personal view:
28 tracks per cd, and sometimes 30! (Time life is also excellent, but you get 15 per cd!)
excellent booklets with background info (not surpassed by any label).
not the same old songs over again, but many rare and still excellent tracks!
last but not least amazing sound quality.
So although you might have some songs there on other collections, it is for above mentioned points alone worth it to always have an ACE copy as well.

Great Mix of Oldies!.......2003-04-10

This is a great CD for anyone who loves oldies! Even though I'm young..., I prefer oldies to modern music, and this album is great! Since no single artist has two songs on it, you never get bored of the style of music. Also, it alternates between male and female voices. Before I got this CD I hardly knew of any of the songs, but now I know and love them all!

Cream of the Crop.......2001-11-24

This second installment in Ace Records' "Teenage Crush" series continues to prove their unequalled status in bringing classic American rock and roll to the CD medium. Packed with 28 tracks from the golden age of American pop, this CD has five number ones, 18 top-20 hits, four that made it into the top-40 and one, Bobby Curtola's "Fortune Teller" that was just out of the top-40 (41) on the charts. While mining the top-40, the repertoire here does not just regurgitate the same old stuff found on so many other oldies compilations in the market. While there're lots of familiar tunes here to hum along to, you won't find tracks like Billy Storm's "I've Come Of Age", Larry Hall's "Sandy" or Gary Miles' "Look For A Star" in many, if any, other comp CDs, especially with the sound quality presented here. As has come to be expected, Ace has secured better sources for many of these tracks and sound quality is the best encountered so far for virtually all of these tunes. Many of the tracks appear in true stereo (6,12,13,15,16,19,22-24,26-28) with the remainder in clean mono. Completing the package is a 16-page booklet with many pics, promo shots and detailed backround notes on the artists represented on the disc. Another outstanding effort by Ace - it just isn't done any better than this.

A Well Chosen (And Generous) Anthology.......2001-01-06

Over the past decade England's ACE label has become one of the recording industry's leading rerelease giants. In fact, in my book they've outdistanced Rhino Records, who I long considered the standard bearer for reissues. Both labels do a superb job of tracking down the best source tapes available. However, where Rhino generally puts about twenty tracks (or less) on a disk and includes a booklet with only six or eight pages, ACE packs 28 songs onto the disk and includes a 20-page booklet loaded with photos and artist information on every song.

In addition to such No. 1 hits as "Come Softly to Me," "The Three Bells," "Honeycomb," "Venus" and "The Theme from 'A Summer Place,'" you also get seldom anthologized hits like Brook Benton's "Endlessly," Larry Finnegan's "Dear One," Jimmy Elledge's "Funny How Time Slips Away" and Gary Miles' "Look for a Star."

Along with volume one, these are some of the greatest teen ballads of the era--roughly 1957 to 1962. [Only "End of the World" (1963) and "Letter from Sherry" (1964) fall outside this time frame.] So what you're getting are some terrific pre-British Invasion American pop. If you enjoyed the first volume as much as I did, this is an equally superb companion volume. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Stop searching for all those old 45s, here are the songs!!!.......2001-02-09

It would take forever to locate these in mint shape on old vinyl. For this reason alone, this is an excellent find of old Jimmy Darren songs. How wonderful to hear them without the scratches from my old 45s! I searched for years to find a copy of "Gegetta" from "Gidget Goes To Rome", and here it is. Remember "Because They're Young"? And "Gidget Goes Hawaiian" and "Wild About That Girl"? Both of these are from the movie, "Gidget Goes Hawaiian" with James Darren and the late Deborah Walley. These are great tunes, from an era when Jimmy was singing on the Colpix label, he even was featured on the old Donna Reed episode once. He guest-starred one week and Shelley Fabares fell for him in the story! He played a singing star that came to town, got ill and was doctored by Mary Stone's Dad, the Doctor. He even stayed at their home, hidden from all the teenage girls in town (Mary's friends). The old Colpix label had a lot of hits at a time when life was simple, when the Mouseketeers were on TV, when we hung out at the malt shops, and you knew you were in love when you had your boyfriend's class ring on a chain around your neck! These songs will take you there. It's not for everyone, but if you remember Ricky Nelson, Bobby Vee and Annette and Frankie, this one needs to be in your collection. It's a great find.

being a fan of all the gidget movies and james darren in both acting and singing.i have found this disc of classic darren songs refreshing and inspiring.

inspite of buying the cd soley for the gidget songs songs at first i found this entire disc to be upbeat,simple and down right all around feel good kind of disc.james darren with his great teen idol voice and his somewhat happy and teenage type songs has made it into my daughters 7 year old heart.although she likes all the other bands of now like britany and 98 degrees etc..she totally enjoys this darren classic..the songs are a lot more simple and easy to enjoy..unlike alot of the music of today..inspite the 60s being turbulant it did bring out some songs that are truly just about the innocense of being a teen and not all about doom and gloom and sex and violence..

Like the first two compilations, this volume of oldies, contains some wonderful memorable songs from the era of good old rock and roll. I had not heard some of them since they were popular, heard on the radion stations, available in the 45 RPM mode.

Superb!!!.......2006-02-28

It's unbelievable how these old recordings can be remastered
so well. I collect records since I was a kid in the late 50's
and early 60's and for the first time, thanks to ACE records,
45 years later I can hear all the instruments used on a "top
hit" like Dee Clark's "Raindrops". I own this single since
it was released(1961)in monoraul but after hearing it on this Teenage Crush compilation I've heard five different musical
instruments I didn't even know they were there. This happens
with most of the songs some of which can be considered as
real treasures. Another surprise to listen to was this guy
Ral Donner. I almost fainted cause I thought Elvis had come
back. I own most of all edited Elvis Presley music and never
thought there was such an incredible impersonator who just
sounds like him. I just ordered this guy's CD at Amazon as
well as the rest of the Teenage Crush compilation. Not only
does it bring back memories but sounding as if it were recorded
yesterday with all the modern today's equipments. Once again
thanks to ACE records. It really deserves 6 stars!

Yet another gem from London's Ace Records.......2004-04-13

As someone who has been a collector for nearly 40 years, it is a rare day when I find a oldies compilation containing 9 songs I do not already own. Yet this is the case with "Teenage Crush Volume 3" This marvelous collection contains a whole bunch of tunes you just won't find anywhere else. In fact, there are about a half dozen songs in this collection that were Billboard chart hits that I had never even heard before!! For me, the biggest coup was Glen Campbells original recording of "Turn Around, Look At Me." This 1962 hit is extremely rare. I have only heard the song once and have never ever seen the 45!!! I was also extremely pleased to find James Gilreath's "Little Band of Gold" from 1963 and Ken Copeland's "Pledge of Love" from way back when in 1957. I had never heard either one of these tunes and both were big hits. In all, there are a generous 28 tracks in this collection. Other hard to find songs include Gino and Ginas "Pretty Baby" and Rod Laurens "If I Had A Girl." from 1959. Lauren was being groomed by RCA to be yet another teen idol but that simply never happened. You will also find some of the more familiar songs you remember from the period including Jerry Kellers classic "Here Comes Summer" and Dee Clarks memorable hit "Raindrops". Also included are some terrific group sounds like Ronnie and the Hi-Lites "I Wish That We Were Married" and "Over The Rainbow" by the Demensions. There is also a colorful 20 page booklet that includes information on each song and artist as well as some great promo material from the record companies. Wait until you see Glen Campbell. You would never know him!!! This is another great value from Ace Records. Jump on this one!!!!

Have listened to this one about 8 times in just 2 weeks. Lots of memories from songs I never hear on oldies radio. A few songs I (possibly) never heard and grew to love them quickly. Excellent purchase for nostalgia freaks and lovers of oldies and innocent times.

Clean Cut Pop.......2004-12-21

Broven, Finnis and Churchill at ACE do it again with Volume Four. This is another classic collection of Pop Rockers and Teen Ballads from the Golden Age Of Rock'n Roll. As with every ACE compilation quality is always the best. This collection contains some rare gems such as; "Three Stars" by Tommy Dee and The Teen Tones (from the original master tape). "She's Neat" By Dale Wright, "Just Young" by Andy Rose. Almost every selection on this disc is a bonafied hit. When you hear "The Wonder Of You" by Ray Peterson, you would think it was recorded yesterday. The re-mastering is impeccable. I hear things that I never knew were there. This collection gets my highest marks for sound quality.

Collector's sensation.......2004-11-15

Seven years after its debut, Ace's Teenage Crush compilation series unveils volume four. Previous volumes in the series have focused more on higher-charting, more well-known "clean-cut" teen tunes from the late 50's and 60's. But here, in something of a nod to Ace's now retired "Golden Age of American Rock and Roll" series, collectors of the genre are stunned with a wealth of never-before-on-CD tunes of the era. The obligatory top hits are represented here by the likes of Pat Boone's "Love Letters In The Sand", Frankie Avalon's "Why" and "Take Good Care Of My Baby" from Bobby Vee. The bigger treasure whetting the collector's appetite however is a massive collection of CD debuts with such tracks as "Just Young" from Andy Rose, "I'm Not A Fool Anymore" by T.K. Hulin, Frank Pizani's "Angry" and "Young Ideas" from Chico Holiday. And the goodies don't stop with these CD dubuts as several of the big chart hits included are hard- if not impossible-to-find gems such as Dale and Grace's follow-up hit "Stop And Think It Over" and Kris Jensen's "Torture". No surprise too is Ace's dedication to production excellence evidenced in the sound quality and 20-page liner notes booklet packed with pics, illustrations and backround on the artists and tracks included. Known for its outstanding reissues, Ace lives up to its reputation and then some with this newest and most welcome edition to its reissues of classic-era American rock and roll tunes. Absolute top-of-the-line stuff.

Wonderful ballads from the past, it's great to hear them again in this fine and well done collection, no complaints at all about this cd, worth every penny.Will be very happy with this collection.

Teenage Crush.......2006-11-05

These are songs that I (and most other baby boomers) listened to and loved while growing up. Of course, each song has a certain preference to each individual and while we all may have gotten tired of a certain song because it was played over and over back then, today each has a special memory (at least for me), especially "It's All In The Game." I was 11, at my first dance and terrified to ask a certain girl to dance. But when I did, Tommy Edwards' voice seemed to make it all OK. My nerves disappeared and I requested that song several more times that evening, or course dancing with that same special girl each time.

This album brings back so many memories! It has a whopping twenty eight songs on it and there are only a few that I don't recognize. I love singing along...Sealed with a Kiss...Devil or Angel...Hold Me,Thrill Me, Kiss Me...every song is a winner! Even if you're a teen now, you'll enjoy the simple lyrics and great melodies!

How great for the baby boomers. Who doesn"t remember The Donna Reed Show, and the first time Shelly (mary) singing "Johnny Angel",or Paul(jeff) singing "She can't find her keys".Who didn't pretend they were James Darren singing "Her Royal Majesty" pretending you were him. I have been waiting for the Bye Bye Birdie album. Having been in the play in high school, and now having my idols singing the songs I did.What a great treat. This is a must for everyone born in the baby boomers era.

A great collection of Ricky Nelson's most famous songs... presented in almost an hour of music. The perfect companion to the new dvd featuring Ricky's appearances on "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet."

Beware: You Get What You Pay For!.......2002-01-17

The $... price tag should have been a red flag. All of Ricky's best songs are here - but they are NOT the original studio versions. It sounds like Mr. Nelson went into the studio during his lunch break and whipped out 22 covers of his own songs. If you've never heard any of Ricky Nelson's songs, you will still enjoy the compilation, but for those who are like me and want to hear the original cuts that made him famous, your money would be better spent buying multiple CD's that contain all of his many great songs in their original flawless versions.
