The sound of Southern rock gets a facelift for the '90s on Yourself or Someone Like You, the record that made Florida's Matchbox 20 a success story. Rob Thomas's charismatic and passionate vocal delivery carries this collection of captivating, personal-story songs, based on honest, heart-felt lyrics rich with cathartic emotion. Anyone who's felt so scarred by love that they can't imagine taking the chance of getting hurt again will relate to a song like "Push" (an exhilarating feminist anthem disguised as just another relationship-on-the-rocks song). A much-needed break from the alternative pack. --Gail Worley

5 out of 5 stars Back to Good.......2007-03-13

Great Album. I was dating my current wife in late 1997 when she surprised me with a private table dance in my living room. Needless to say, that song was played at our wedding and to this day holds a memory that I will never forget close to my heart and somewhere....

5 out of 5 stars Transformative and Moving.......2007-02-27

My musical tastes are quite eclectic to say the least. I move from Bach to Rock and all places in between as long as its quality. However, whenever I listen to "back 2 good", I feel like I am actually transported into the body of a person who has deep pain and sorrow. This song continues to have an effect on me over 10 years later from the first time I heard it. Most of the other songs are great for the unusual mix of depth and pop appeal. This album is highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Lots of energy throughout the album - MAJOR talent.......2007-01-11

I just bought this yesterday. Very impressive vocals. This album will keep your head moving and fingers tapping the whole time- lots of energy. I like how it doesnt seem like they are trying to copy the trends.

4 out of 5 stars MB20 Is Someone Like You.......2006-10-03

Southern rock band: Matchbox 20 made their Mainstream debut with YOURSELF OR SOMEONE LIKE YOU. The album was released in late 1996, and it was a major breakthrough in the sound of popular rock. Vocalist Rob Thomas fronted the rhythm section with gritty and yet very melodic lines. His sound and style is what would have made or broke the band. Luckily, Thomas' sound was a style people liked and were soon in demand for. Single after single, and performance after performance, the public could not get enough of the band's southern gritty rock. It is quite clear that Thomas' parts are the foundation to the band, and all the other instruments' parts are written to fit his sound. The end result is a standard I-IV-V progression with a passing chord thrown in here and there, but the guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards are in sync with each other almost perfectly. Dynamics are a big trait with this group, and the musicians know how to use this aspect just right for their pieces. YOURSELF OR SOMEONE LIKE YOU is a good record and one for any Matchbox 20 fan.

Stand out tracks include:
"Real World"
"Long Day"
"3 AM"
"Push"
"Busted"
"Shame"

Sell 10 million copies of your debut album and you might find yourself putting on a few airs. Evidence that it's happened to matchbox twenty can be found in the new, spelled-out format of their all-lowercased name and the pretentious insertion of that name into the title of this, their sophomore set. The level of popularity achieved by their 1996 debut, Yourself or Someone Like You, posed a more profound problem, though--should they follow in the footsteps of that smash effort, or strike out in a different direction? To their credit, the Orlando quintet puts their massive popularity on the line by opting mostly for the latter course: there are no obvious retreads here of earlier hits such as "Push," "3 a.m.," and "Real World"--or of "Smooth," the multiple-Grammy-winning Santana hit penned and sung by matchbox frontman Rob Thomas. Instead, the album sports a nice mix of material that is catchy, but may take a little longer to settle into your memory banks, such as the moody yet intense "Bent," the horn-driven rocker "Black & White People," and several songs examining various aspects of relationships, "If You're Gone," "Rest Stop," and "Bed of Lies." Whatever the members of matchbox twenty want to call themselves, these guys may yet be able to have it all--artistic growth as well as massive sales. They're not headed for Hootieville just yet. --Daniel Durchholz

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Not amazing, but has AMAZING moments.......2007-01-25

Okay, maybe I'm not really authorized to write a review on this album. I don't even really own it, I just borrowed it from the library. However, I loved a few of the songs so much I bought them from iTunes. Songs like "Leave", "If You're gone" (the hit frequently heard on the radion), and, most importantly, "You Won't Be Mine". This song is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. It's one of my very favorite songs. It's SO pretty, and I love the orchestral arrangement. Rob Thomas does a fantastic job on the piano in this number. The bad thing about the version that you can purchase from iTunes is that the end is cut off, in order to make the song shorter, because the song on the album seems to end, but then there are three minutes of silence, and the orchestra comes in again. Rather strange, maybe, but a beautiful part of the song that you cannot get on iTunes.
Apart from these songs, there are none that particularly stand out to me. I do enjoy "Bent", "Angry", "Bed Of Lies", and "Crutch", but not enough to go out and buy the CD. They are nice in small doses, but not worth the money. The chord progressions seem not quite finished, almost, but the lyrics are very meaningful, which makes up for it in part, but not entirely.
In conclusion, my final rating for the album is three stars for several outstanding numbers ("You Won't Be Mine"!!!), and a whole lot of okay ones.
P.S. "Black and White People" is not, as I thought at first, a rather racist title-it's refering to the minds and/or souls of people... Black and white as opposed to technicolor, you might say. :)

5 out of 5 stars it's unnerving.......2006-12-25

It's not coincidental that Mad Season begins with the hard-driving rock & roll and the suppressed, denied, explosive anger of 'Angry'.

Not coincidental. Rather an announcement that the fabulous band Matchbox Twenty is back and is still who they were. Only better, if that's possible.

They're still remembering:

'So scream you, out from behind the bitter ache
Heavy on the memory, you need most'

'Black and White People' continues this heavily-caffeinated album, with its brass back-up, upbeat tempo, and enigmatic lyrics:

'If it's just that you're weak
Can we talk about it
It's gettin' so damn creepy
Just nursing this ghost of a chance
The fiction, the romance
And the Technicolor dreams
Of black and white people'.

OK, then. I think we need some color commentary.

Or not. Because the anger resumes with highly intelligible clarity on the next track, 'Crutch':

'Man I feel like hell so come on over
Be a love machine and I could be your friend
Ain't no shame feel strong for one another
Make a real true color come end to end then
God damn, change of pace
I think there's still a piece of my heart on your face
It's a shame to let it waste
How does it taste? How does it taste?

I don't want to be the crutch
One step from down
I don't want to be the crutch
One step from down, down, down, down, down'

It's too earlier to tell how this emotionally raw self-disclosure will wear. Will we hum 'Crutch' in 2025?
But for now, the golden appeal of Matchbox Twenty derives from the fact that they write this stuff down as the feel it. And then they sing it to really, really good music.

One hopes, for their sake, that they find some mutuality, some enduring reconciliation of love and self-interest, some peace. One hopes for the music that they don't make this discovery too soon. Not, say, before one more album like this one.

Alas, the boys of Matchbox Twenty are only sure of one thing: that hearts will continue to break. In this, they are the quintessential children of their generation:

'It won't be the first heart that you break
It won't be the last -- beautiful girl
The one that you wrecked wont' tak you back
If you were the last ...

This will all fall down
Like everything in the world
This too must end
And all the words we said
We can't take back.'

But they were only words, or at least words is all that's left because the stuff of those words has gone. Again. Leaving only loneliness and a sing-able melody line. Good grief, guys, didn't it ever go right, just once? Didn't it last?

No? OK, then. Please keep writing, singing, recording. We need to hear more of this.

No relenting. 'If you're gone' continues what looks like a MAD SEASON theme if not a Matchbox Twenty dominant motif. Only this time, the loss comes with a hint, a whisp, a remote possibility of reconcilation:

'If you're gone, maybe it's time to go home
There's an awful lot of breathing room
But I can hardly move
If you're gone, baby, you need to come home
Cuz there's a little bit of something me
In everything in you'

But not too much hope:

'I bet you're hard to get over
I be the room just won't shine
I bet my hands I can stay here
I bet you need more than you mind'

Good grief, they captured the loss, didn't they?

The eponymous song of the album is actually quite forgettable. It's kind of a foil to the hauntingly beautiful 'Rest Stop', arguably the song we *will* be humming in 2025:

'Just three miles from the rest stop
And she slams on the brakes
She said I tried to be but I'm not
And could you please collect your things ...

She said: while you were sleeping
I was listening to the radio
And wondering what you're dreaming when
It came to mind that I didn't care
So I thought - hell, if it's over ...

Jus three miles from the rest stop
And my mouth's too dry to rage
The light was shining from the radio
I could barely see her face
But she knew all the words that I never said
She knew the crumpled-up promise of this
Broken-down man, and as I opened the door ...'

This is the selective verbiage of abandonment that isn't supposed to come to men's pens until they've turned forty-five and suffered enough for poignance.

But it keeps on flowing out of the tracks of this magnificent CD. Hear 'The Burn':

'I thought about
Leaving but I couldn't even get outa' bed ...

Thought about
Singin' but I couldn't remember all the words ..

So I wonder how I ever got the burn
Everything and everyone I needed before
Tryin' to get a handle on a reason to shine
Pickin' up the pieces that are falling behind takes time'

There's a sad, almost dissolute self-absorption in all of this, but one that finds its way quickly outward to the lips and hips of Matchbox Twenty's fans and followers. Like the biblical psalms (though these work there way more quickly towards hope), the typical ballad in this CD is intensely personal, yet offered up to a wider community to words that they can instantly claim as their own. There is *almost* not a miss on this entire album, the headline track laid aside for one moment.

'Bent' comes closes to describing the trauma of their voices in a way that takes some degree of responsiblity:

Yet even the confession of being 'bent' ('So can you help me, I'm bent // Im' so scared that I'll never get put back together') is a plea for community, for togetherness, as though the solution to bent-ness is not one to be found in solitude or self-reform:

'If I fall along the way
Pick me up and dust me off
And if I get too tired to make it
Be my breath so I can walk

If I need some other love
Give me more than I can stand
And when my smile gets old and faded
Wait around, I'll smile again'

There are other deeply soulful tunes. 'Bed of Lies'. 'Leave'. 'Stop'. 'You Won't be Mine'. In fact, one rattles on from one emotionally draining track to the next, marveling that MT can keep up the pace.

But they do. These dudes have articulated a life, a throbbing, mobile, abandoned, wishful, painfully memorable pain.

Embedded in this sea of music, listening to it over and over, one hopes for the men of Matchbox Twenty that they truly are 'marking it down to learning'.

5 out of 5 stars There Isn't a Single Bad Song........2006-07-05

Out of the Some odd 200 CD's I own and listen to, this ranks in the top five. Rob Thomas' vocals draw you into each and every song and demand your attention. There are some awesome guitar riffs and the beat to every song is original and catchy. I enjoy the full band sound on "Black and White People", the lyrics to "If You're Gone", and who can NOT like the funky beat in "Mad Season"? With hits such as "Bent" and "Crutch", this CD is too great not to own. Like another reviewer said. "Go buy this. Now."

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Album!.......2006-04-15

I bought this CD after hearing "If You're Gone".
I'd never heard of Matchbox 20 before that track. I absolutely fell in love with the whole album. Great listening!

5 out of 5 stars Crossing the Threshold From Pop Success to Serious Artist Expression.......2005-12-02

The fact that these guys hit the charts with their debut release "Yourself or Someone Like You" with such Pop appeal didn't impress me enough to run out and buy this second release; I received it in a bulk buy on eBay. One listen to this artful, soulful expression of the guy's take on relationships, sudden success and enduring sense of innocence and vulnerability made this a 'score'.

Forget the cut by cut commentary - this music reflects an artistic maturation process that is awe-inspiring and stunning; they've become tighter in their delivery and, perhaps that is reflected by the truly talented arraingments and writing. They make it sound easy.

The last cut, "You Won't Be Mine" signals very good things to come. Indeed, it does it's job so well that you will simply sit and contemplate it's delicacy until, perhaps four minutes after it has ended you will get another surprise and a variation of the arraingment floods the senses with the promise of what talent and sensitivity can mean to such an art form as this.

Florida's megaplatinum matchbox twenty prove with their third album to be far more versatile than expected, comfortably outlasting the predictions of naysayers. Reuniting with producer Matt Serletic, the quintet takes credible swings at gospel ("Downfall" features a choir), Traveling Wilburys-type twang ("All I Need"), and big-arena rock with "Disease," cowritten by singer Rob Thomas and Mick Jagger and winkingly recalling Thomas's star turn with Carlos Santana on "Smooth." Pedal-steel great Greg Leisz spruces up several tracks, notably the tearjerker "Hand Me Down," while producer and keyboardist Serletic and percussionist Paul Doucette sprinkle instrumental pixie dust. More Than You Think You Are isn't likely to appease critics, who have consistently accused matchbox twenty of yelling when a whisper would do, but fans of the group are certain to dig these panoramic songs, each drawn in broad, vivid strokes. --Kim Hughes

5 out of 5 stars May be Paramount.......2007-01-08

This just may be the best album to come from a 90's band, although, it's kind of funny to say that when 2 out of their 3 released albums hit record stores after 2000. Nonetheless, they are a band from the 90's. They are a band that took rock music and said "let's have fun with it" but at the same time "we're gonna wear our hearts in our throats!" Not ever overdramatic (see Creed, Nickelback, or any of the bands that are an exact fingerprint of them), Matchbox Twenty still manages to pinpoint on all the dramatics of a relationship. Thomas is at his best when writing a hook. Take the first single on here: "Disease." Some don't like it. I do. Why? I remember the first time I ever heard it and thought to myself, "What is going on with this instrumentation/rhythm. I couldn't get a sense of where the beat was with the guitar slipping in and out. So I counted it out (as any musician would) and came to see how irregular his beat was inside a common time signature. I was hooked. No pun intended. "Bright Lights" moves into a different territory. He's dealing with a relationship's death due to a dream followed. Now, as much as I don't agree with his plea for her to "come back home," I can understand his yearning and his sadness, because for some reason, Thomas can write these lyrics that really get to you. "Unwell" is a bonafide MB20 hit. The hook is great, the lyrics maybe his best. "All night, hearing voices telling me that I should get some sleep because tomorrow might be good for something. Hold on, feeling like I'm headed for a breakdown." I have felt this; this feeling of going crazy after a breakup. It is horrible, and Thomas outlines each feeling with such color and darkness. Moving into "Cold" is exactly what it sounds like. This is a cold, hard song, and for me it was a hard sell, because it was so much darker in music tone and atmosphere than Thomas usually creates with his music. However, now it is a stand-out with some very inventive harmonies. "Hand Me Down" a Kleenex please. This is for anyone whoever felt like they weren't good enough for someone. This is by far wins the awards for "most strings pulled on out of the heart." Thomas may not write lyrics that reveal some new uncharted territory of the soul, heart or mind, but with this song, he cements his position as understanding it as well as anyone, and emoting it better than anyone. It helps that he never hides behind any shadows either. The last four tracks on the album are pure fun! Of course they still have the Thomas trademark of emotional disbursement, especially on "Downfall" in which at first we hear just another great rock song, but soon hear the faint strains of a Gospel Choir break out into a full-out Gospel-covered alteration of the same tune. At that moment, I thought to myself, "Hmmm, Rob Thomas could be a genius." It's sad that Rob Thomas is the only one writing such great rock music anymore. Were there 5 or 6 bands out there with originallity such as his, radio would be worth listening to. Until then, I'll XM or iPod all my music so I can tune out Nickelback without turning the station. Rob Thomas has earned his place as the best rock musician to emerge from the 90's. Thank God for him. Thank God.

5 out of 5 stars Great Group & great music.......2007-01-04

I listen to this CD all the time in the car...great vocals and songs that one can relate to. All aroung great music.

5 out of 5 stars MB20 Is More Than You Think.......2006-10-03

Matchbox Twenty finally released their third Mainstream album back in late 2002. MORE THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE was another breakthrough for not just pop rock, but for Matchbox Twenty themselves. The record was a major progression in the band's sound and it is a great display of how the members have matured as musicians. Its obvious that the band was in search for and paid a lot of attention in creating melodies and perfect harmonies for each piece of this record. Keyboards are a major tool in reaching this desired affect for each song, and the guitar also has a lot more recognizable melody lines. The drums are not overpowering and are mainly their for keeping time and giving effects for particular songs. The bass is a melodic filler but is in the catagory of creating sanorities for the band. Chord progressions are still very simple, but the way they're performed is amazing. Rob Thomas has also clearly matured as a singer and pays a lot of attention in creating melodic phrasing and motives. All of these aspects gained the band tons of attention in dealing with airplay, performances, and in promotions. MORE THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE is an amazing piece of work and is beyond doubt worth of being nomminated for several grammies. It is a must have for any music collection.

Stand out tracks include:
"Feel"
"Disease"
"Unwell"
"Downfall"
"The Difference"

5 out of 5 stars "Feeling much better, thanks...".......2006-07-15

The thing is, I was never a fan of Matchbox Twenty, but through the years I became attached to 2 of their songs: "Back To Good" & "Unwell". So I bought their first album to get "Back To Good", and I liked it pretty much, so then I bought this one to get "Unwell", and I like it even better. The first one was sort of Southern-folk-country rock, which was OK, but this one is a mixture of harder rock and good old commercial pop, with all kinds of variety thrown in for good measure. Just as an example, the bridge in "You're So Real" sounds so much like The Beatles, it's scary. The lead guitar work is amazing all through the CD. Kyle Cook is a vastly talented rock guitarist, but I imagine he could play anything he wanted, and I'm sure he is one of the main reasons for MB20's success. Of course, Rob Thomas is the big enchilada. He has terrific songwriting skills, a potent but expressive voice, and all the charisma necessary to be a frontman, with more to spare. Some of the lyrics make me think he should be a psychiatrist. He seems to understand my obsessions ("Disease"), my optimistic rationalizing ("Unwell), my disappointments ("Hand Me Down"). and my acceptance of inner turmoil ("Soul"). And by the way: DO NOT miss the "hidden" track that follows the official 12th track, "The Difference". It is hot and mean musically, and lyrically a sublime depiction of dark defiance in the face of despair.

5 out of 5 stars This is all I need........2006-07-03

Feel - Angsty. Sometimes I swear he's yelling, almost teasing-ish. But I love the guitar that is present in this song, and the chorus is pretty effective. Makes me smile.

Disease - I love the way he sounds like he's almost suffering in this song. Very catchy, though not my favorite. I love the guitar, as I did in Feel.

Bright Lights - I don't know why, but this is probably my least favorite song on the album. Anyways, the piano is great, though I would like a bit more instruments present. The lyrics are very soft and pretty, though I find The Difference to be prettier.

Unwell - Gotta love this song. The lyrics are so funny and interesting, and you can relate, almost. Like he's talking about weird stuff happening to normal people. I love the banjo (?) work in it. One of my favorite songs ever.

Cold - This was one of the first songs I noticed the drums avidly. Lovely, fast-paced song. Catchy.

All I Need - The lyrics are not my favorite, though the beat in the background makes up for it, I think. Though I will admit that "Life ain't no beauty show" makes me smile every time I hear it.

Hand Me Down - My favorite song on this album. Made me feel like there was a story to it, though at the same time, it was just emotion. And of course, the instrumental work was awesome.

Could I Be You - Probably my second favorite song on this album. I love the lyrics, and the beat goes well with it, especially with the piano and the drums.

Downfall - The gospel choir was not expected, but definitely appreciated. Definitely, I think, added to the power of that song. Because it's definitely that - powerful.

Soul - Pretty song. Soft and delicate, slow. I love the way it just casually sinks into a drum beat, and then into his vocals, but still keeps up with the beginning beat. Pretty lyrics, too. Pretty pretty pretty.

You're So Real - I love the way it's sorta off-beat, but still catchy and fun. Awesome; fast. (Yes, I realize that is not a complete sentence)

The Difference - It's one of the better songs on this album, in my opinion. Though my tastes aren't really inclined to romance songs, this one was so sweet you can't resist it.

So Sad, So Lonely - A hidden track in The Difference. (The title So Sad, So Lonely has been widely accepted, though it's really just a hidden track). I love this song. Love it love it love it. It's so fast paced and almost raw, dirty, but good. Awesome. Worth listening through The Difference to get to, even if you hate The Difference (gasp).

Album Description

Multi-platinum superstars matchbox twenty give fans a front row seat with this EP of rare versions. With more #1 hits spending more weeks at #1 on both Modern AC and Adult Top 40 charts than any other artist in history, they had a wealth of material to choose from. The four smash singles that ended up on this limited edition set are Push, All I Need, If You're Gone and Disease. Also includes the unreleased studio track, Suffer Me -- as well as concert video footage of a small club date the band snuck in before setting out on a sold-out arena tour (enhanced portion).

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Rob Thomas Come Back!.......2006-05-31

This is a 5 Star CD (regardless of what reviewers are saying) for any M20 fan. The live versions of 'If You're Gone' and 'Push' are wonderful, reinforcing everyone's need to see this band live. I give it 3 Stars because it weighs in at a handful of songs and doesn't do much for the non-fan. The band may as well have put out a full live album instead of something as short as this. The major problem is that it leaves you wanting more and with all of the live cuts on the internet, people are more likely to download something illegally than shell out $10 for an EP. That being said, Rob Thomas needs to shelve the solo career and start putting music together with one of the best bands of the last decade.

4 out of 5 stars More like the companion to "Show" than an EP.......2005-09-04

This CD isn't exactly that special - on its own. Unlike their other albums obviously, you won't find anything especially "essential" on this except for "Suffer me", their previously unreleased track dating from 2000. Although I gotta admit: the new rendition of "Crutch" is really cool, and the live version of "Push" only proves just how ageless and immortal this song is.

But this EP gets REALLY interesting if you also happen to own the concert DVD "Show: A Night in the Life of Matchbox Twenty". Because these two combined make for a neat little story: how a humble live gig at the Troubadour in LA kicked off Matchbox Twenty's epic tour in 2003, as "recaptured" in Show.

A historic moment seen in EP's video material is when Rob Thomas and guitarist Kyle Cook perform "If You're Gone" live and acoustic before an audience "for the first time". Because from hereon during their tour the only way you're going to hear "If You're Gone" is live and acoustic.

All in all, if you either like MB20 THAT much or intend to fully enjoy the "Show" DVD, go ahead and buy this EP. If you don't have "Show" or have a short attention span, by all means pass. Even we need to save a little money.

5 out of 5 stars listen to it. you'll like it........2005-03-11

I usually don't like when bands re-invent their songs for live shows, but the versions of "Crutch" and "If You're Gone" are just beautiful on this cd, I saw them preform live before this came out and the e.p. doesn't quite capture the atmosphere of their live shows, which are very upbeat, but this cd offers a unique view of their music and makes this a staple recording to own for any MatchBox Twenty fan.

5 out of 5 stars EP-Wow!.......2004-04-13

I bought this album just as it came out. I think it is fantastic!
The acoustic versions of "If Your Gone" and "Disease" are simply wonderful. Typical Matchbox and typical Rob Thomas! Everything you would expect from them and more!

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars... Intended for the Avid MB20 Fan.......2004-04-12

As a casual fan of MB20, I picked this up really cheap, and while this is not a bad collection, it certainly is not essential either, except prob for the avid MB20 (which I'm not).

"EP" (6 tracks, 23 min.) is a collection of live, in-studio live and unreleased tracks. The best include "If You're Gone" and "Disease", both finding Rob Thomas essentially by himself with his accoustic guitar, and reworking well-know tracks quite effectively. I also liked the live version of "All I Need". The new song is "Suffer Me", a leftover of the "Mad Season" sessions; it is a good, up-tempo song, and makes me wonder why it didn't make the final "Mad Season" album tracklist. In all, "EP" is aimed for the MB20 fans, and in that sense delivers.

5 out of 5 stars Weird. Crazy. Psychotic. Quirky. Funny. Dark. GREAT!.......2005-07-13

Probably the weirdest album Ive heard in a while. But I can't get enough of it. I don't even know how I could describe the music of The 80s Matchbox B-line Disaster. Its rock n roll allright.... but there's something really...uhhh....strange about their sound, it reminds me of a FREAK SHOW at a Circus, know what I mean? No? Well I don't even know it myself. And the LYRICS..."What sould we do with the puppy dog's tail?" How do they COME UP with that stuff. I really want to see this band live, so I hope they'll show up over here maybe later this year.

5 out of 5 stars Album of the Year........2004-12-27

Basically, this is the best album of 2004. If you like your music loud, weird, creative and addictive, buy this. I'm not gonna even try to describe it. If you own even one album with Mike Patton on it, you need this. Stand-out tracks: Rise of the Eagles, I could be an Angle (yes, it's "angle", not "angel".), Mister Mental, I Rejection, Temple Music, The Way of the Men of the Stuff.

    4 out of 5 stars Can I join?.......2004-11-15

Okay, first things first, this album -great! Much better when you've seen them live and have had eye contact with Guy Mcknight. Twice. That's TWICE!!! One of the reasons I like this album so much may have something to do with that but it is brilliant and it really cheers you up on college days -trust me, I'm in hysterics most mornings on the train. Melodies, rock, v.entertaining lyrics, an extremely low-voiced (yet he can sing really well aswell) lead singer, lots and lots of hair, they have it all and it comes across in this album. Although, if you're looking for something light and happy, they haven't quite figured out how to do that yet. My favourites: I could be an angle -it's really funny, like Guy's eyes!!! And it has great guitar parts, perfect for the moshpit. Rise of the eagles: This is even funnier to sing along to at the train station, especially the chorus. Temple Music: Guy's learnt how to sing! I love the tune and it won't go away...The Fool: Let's just say I'm learning the guitar again. I like it. I'm going to listen to it again.

    3 out of 5 stars better live.......2005-03-24

theses guys are great live seen um with tesla but had never heard of them before, wow unreal they came very close to stealing the show, but the cds do not come close to the live sound and the best song live is not on there cds. rollin i think it was. i cant wait for the next cd i check in to see if its out. they kinda sound like tesla but more like a band called cry of love. i say buy there cds and if you get a chance to see um live lucky you.

    5 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise.......2001-10-11

Like the other reviews i caught them a year ago as an opening act for King's X. All i can do is ditto most of what was already said. Blues based southern rock with great hooks and a near perfect lead vocalist. A very tight band that is extremely unpretentious. i was so impressed i went to a show a week later and brought several friends. We are all fans of King's X and were once again impressed with them but everyone was shocked at this unknown opening act. I couldn't even find their CD in any local stores. All these reviews have forecast that they will be stars. It hasn't happened and it's a shame. This band deserves it like no other i've heard in years. It would be sad if they struggled in relative obscurity as King's X has done. If you are a lover of music give this a try, you will not be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Saw them live....bought the CD....am awaiting next release.......2001-04-11

Saw them open for KX at Slim's in SF (The show with Ty Tabor in a cervical collar), and was very impressed. Sounds like the good songs from Tesla with more substance in the lyrics, some really solid musicianship, and a lot of energy. I love this album, and will definitely buy the next one. "Wings" is extremely cool.

    5 out of 5 stars Texas rock.......2001-03-28

I got the album 6 months ago and constantly listened to it. They opened for Tesla when I saw them in Houston and they put 100% in to they're awesome show. I have never seen a crowd that where the majority had never heard the music before just totally rocked out with these guys. Sound is fresh with Mr. Big type singer. This band should be worldwide.

4 out of 5 stars Ditty, Wings & Dashboard Mary.......2001-01-03

I read that Texas based King's X had something to do with this band. Thank you King's X. Podunk can rock. They have a great pop crunch sound with almost infectious grooves (as my Canadian buddy Chris says). I can't quite put my finger on who these guys "sound" like - they have a sound of their own. Their lead singer sounds quite a bit like Eric Martin from MR BIG. Between rock & hard rock, the songs have nice hooks that all party goer's can enjoy. A nice new refreshing slap in the face. Try some Podunk - my bet is you'll like this band.

        Album Description

Limited Edition UK-only double CD set from the Warner Platinum series featuring two of their bestselling compilation titles packaged together. This set combines the Platinum Collections from UK retro bands Darts and Matchbox. Darts achieved fame in the latter part of the '70s, mixing Big Band, Blues, Swing and Rockabilly into one big ball of fun. Their collection features 19 tracks including 'Daddy Cool/The Girl Can't Help It' and 'Come Back My Love'. '80s Rockabilly sensations Matchbox were criminally overlooked outside of Europe and their 18 track compilation proves that they were one of the best bands to come out of that scene. Warner.
