Not Bored By The Chairmen.......2007-03-06

I first heard Chairmen of the Board on the Invictus Soul Box Set. Why weren't these guys famous? This is incredible Motown soul. Acid, fuzzClav. Hypertight, bassdrum heavy rhythm. Wah-wah guitar. Soulful harmonies reminicent of the Tops or Temps. Above all: great songwriting (some courtesy of Motown's legendary Holland-Dozier-Holland hitmakers).

If you like funk, if you like soul, if you like Motown, you gotta get this excellent set.

Hypnotic Music Forever!.......2005-10-13

This is it! The best collection of the Chairmen of the Board. Out of print for many years and here it comes again. This record is for people who really like soul music and it contains many of their greatest performances. "I'm On My Way To A Better Place" and "Hypnotic Music" alone are worth the price of this collection but there is a ton of other hip stuff here. Excellent re-mastering too. Castle Music has done a wonderful job of making fine, old music available. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, 10 stars!

Chairmen of the Board are a strange marriage of a manufactured group, domineering producers, and artistic freedom.
The core membership consists of General Norman Johnson, Danny Woods, and Harrison Kennedy.

This set is a great overview of their formative years (70,71), their so-called creative peak,ie radio airplay success (1972), and following solo endeavers (1972-76).
In addition to their output as COTB, the solo work sampled is from 3 albums; 'Generally Speaking'-General Johnson, 'Aires'-Danny Woods, and 'Hypnotic'-Harrison Kennedy.

Their is another 2cd compiliation of prevoiusly unreleased, solo work out there called 'All Other Busisness'...of which 23 of its 32 tracks are included here (in different sequencing).

Suffice it to say that COTB cover the gamut of music that dominated the AM airwaves at the turn of the decade, including Funk, R&B, "Beach music", crossover soul, the "Motown sound", and soul/pop.
Several performers that stand out as influences for me here are The Four Tops (vocal harmonies), Marvin Gaye (socio-political musings), Sly and the Family Stone (da funk!). As jazz can permeate Earth Wind & Fire's music, COTB is grounded in "Soul".

This is great music(remastered) and you get a LARGE portion on 3 jam-packed discs. Taking into account the past musical era (60's), COTB put everything in the skillet...seasoned it with political and social wit, romance, funk grooves, and the overall emphasis on having a good time. Whatever was errant in the music of the 1960s, COTB manages to reconcile the "heavy" messages so imprinted then with a more inclusive vibe...for Everyday People, Everywhere.

pop music: music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love.

Pop can mean popular, but in the case of music it just means that it's just more rhytmic and less hard as rock 'n' roll. Before you go telling other people to get a brain you should check into getting that done yourself. I haven't heard this band yet but I'm trying to gather information on it to see if I would like to buy the album and people like you who complain about other people's opinions tend to get in my way, and I don't like that. So do us all a favor and shut up.

pop = popular . if you say its too pop punk , you are saying its to popular for you to listen to ? 0_o .. please get a brain and stop listening to teens who sware they were born when the ramones and the clash came out .. they were but a twinkle in their daddies eyes when those bands were out :) .. kids ... anyhow , This band has some good songs to offer . im really enjoying this cd .

Awesome Album from Upcoming Superstars.......2000-07-29

I saw this band on the Strung Out tour this summer and was impressed. I picked up the Finder's Keeper's CD and was blown away. There isn't a bad track on here. If you like pop-punk in the tradition of Blink-182, Green Day, etc. you should really give this a listen. It grows on you until you can't stop playing the CD. These guys will be huge soon!

Too pop-punk.......2000-04-28

I love emo, and I bought these guys thinking of something to the degree of Midtown or the Ataris but not even close. DB is a little too pop-punk for me. The first 5 songs are pretty cool but after that they all sound the same and are weak.

these guys rocked my socks all day and night. i couldn't get enough of their edgy pop punk sound and super catchy lyrics. i found myself nodding my head throughout the day to DB's songs. you guys are catchy and i will recommend you to my professors at UT (the ones who haven't heard of you already, that is). bottom line is that the guitars and back up vocals rocked my world, and i was terribly sad to hear about the loss of key performer/ entertainer, andrew leeper. that guy knows how to get a crowd off its (duff) in a hurry.
