5 out of 5 stars Been listening to the album for 4 months now........2007-06-29

And i can honestly say that this is by far their best album. It's worth the money just for the song "Six" alone, but yet every song is just so refreshing to hear. Definitely the type of cd you blast in your car with the windows down.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!!.......2007-05-26

This is one of the best newer metal bands I have heard in a long time.
recommended this to all metal heads.

5 out of 5 stars This is the one to buy!.......2007-05-19

Just a totally unbelievable album. They stepped up there game since last time.I can honestly say that each and every song on here is absolutly crushing!

4 out of 5 stars ANDOLS HERRICK IS BACK!!!.......2007-05-08

First of all this is classic chimaira, this album is alot better than it's predessor. The whole tone of this album is gritter and more focused, and shows how heavy this band can really be.It's great to have andols back on the throne once again i love hearing his intricate patterns it really takes each song to another level(not that kevin tally is a bad drummer)andols is just perfect for this band.Hopefully the next album is even heavier and a little more chaotic.

5 out of 5 stars Can this band get any better?.......2007-05-01

Chimaira are truly one of those modern metal bands out there today that never cease to impress me with every album they release. Being a huge fan of Chimiara, the one thing that just impresses me about these guys is that they always get better with every album they put out, and their latest masterpiece 2007's "Resurrection" proves just that. This album is an incredible follow up to their 2005 self titled third album (which was a great album), and it's also one of the best metal albums of 2007 thus far as well. This album also marks the return of former drummer Andols Herrick. Mark Hunter's vocals are more awesome and intense than ever before, and a bit more varied on this album as well. Lead Guitarist Rob Arnold shreds and tears throughout with sick ripping leads and solos, and even some nice melodic harmonies are included as well. Keyboardist takes a more active and prominent role on this album and his keyboard effects really add so much to this album. Listen to the album closer "Empire" for instance. And of course Andols Herrick's fast double bass drumming is just absolutely amazing and will pummel your face straight to the ground, and he's sure proven that he hasn't lost a single beat.

The opening title song "Resurrection" is a very fast heavy song with great killer headbanging riffs, a careening solo from Rob, and some pummeling yet forceful double bass kicks especially during the chorus. This is no doubt my favorite song on the album. Antother one of my favorites track three "Worthless" is another fast blistering track which included a great catchy chorus in which Mark growls in as well as some fast pounding drumwork, cascading riffs, and a killer solo. Track four "Six" is the longest song on here clocking in at (9:44), and it's also one of the best songs that Chimaira have ever written. Mark's vocals are great, as well as the guitarwork, the solos, and drums. "No Reason to Live" includes some nice bass lines, and some machine gun like snare drums, and a nice mellowish solo in the beginning which are all soon followed by some some machine gun double bass kicks and some more fast drums, more solid riffs, and another nice melodic solo is included as well. Track six "Killing the Beast" is one of the more slower songs on the album which includes slow yet heavy lurching riffs, and a slow yet sinister and steady double bass drum beat throughout. "The Flame" is another mid paced number which features some machine gun like chugging riffs, and some killer guitar harmonies, and another nice solo to boot. Another highlight for me, "End it All" is another fast blazing scorcher which features fast punishing double bass drums especially during the chorus and another blazing solo. The next two tracks "Black Heart" and "Needle" are great fast careening headbangers that will make you want to play air guitar like crazy and get some mosh pits going. And finally we have the closing song "Empires" which includes some black metal esque keyboard effects, pummeling double bass onslaughts, as well as another careening guitar solo. Here's the entire song list, and the ratings.
Jeremy's song ratings:
1. Resurrection (4:37) - 5/5 My favorite song
2. Pleasure in Pain (3:04) - 5/5
3. Worthless (3:44) - 5/5
4. Six (9:44) - 5/5
5. No Reason to Live (3:44) - 5/5
6. Killing the Beast (3:47) - 5/5
7. The Flame (5:23) - 5/5
8. End it All (4:21) - 5/5
9. Black Heart (4:33) - 5/5
10. Needle (3:08) - 5/5
11. Empire (5:33) - 5/5

In my mind, "Resurrection" is truly one of the best pure new metal albums to come out in a long time. I definately and honestly rank this album along with "Enemy of God" by Kreator, "Blood Mountain" by Mastodon, "Christ Illusion" by Slayer, "Tempo of the Damned" by Exodus, "Through the Ashes of Empires" and "The Blackening" both by Machine Head, "The System Has Failed" by Megadeth, and among other great new metal albums I've had the pleasure of listening to over the past three years now. Overall "Resurrection" is without a shadow of a doubt thus far Chimaira's best album of their carreer, and it's also one of the best metal album of 2007 thus far as well.

Bottom Line: A must have for all Chimaria fans, metal fans, or just good music in general. Fantastic job guys. Buy this album ASAP!!

P.S. Be sure to catch Chimaira at the Sounds of the Underground Tour this upcoming summer. I hope I get to go this summer.

5 out of 5 stars Keeps On Getting Better..........2007-05-01

What can I say about this disc other than it is so far my best of 2007 so far. Having followed Scott "Wino" Weinrich's career since St.Vitus, The Obsessed (Wino started the Obsessed and went back to it after leaving Vitus),Place Of Skulls,& Spirit Caravan, Hidden Hand seemed like a way to start fresh, a clean slate as it were. The first three discs showed promise, and are excellent efforts to be sure. I do not want to diminish them, but when I heard The Resurrection Of Whiskey Foote,I knew Wino & the boys were on- big time. It is a total cohesive work from start to finish. This is the powerful, forceful, imaginative promise of this type of music. You'd expect it to be uncompromising, heavy, and original, which it certainly is. What I didn't expect was the beauty one finds when not anticipating it to be there. It is difficult to put it in words. I was in such awe of how it affected me,it is that good. This is intelligent music made for intelligent listeners. It effortlessly unfolds one song after the next. Just when you think you've heard the best song the next one blows you away again. There's more of the Wino influence from the St. Vitus period, and that's a good thing since that was another creative period which was cut short of further exploration. If you don't know about these other bands, this is still a great place to start. If you like metal,doom,stoner-rock,and classic metal, there's something transcendent about this work that should appeal to all.

The UK version is digitally remastered, and packed with (the unavailable in the US) In My Own Dreams. It's a little more, but really worth it.

5 out of 5 stars THE BLUES ALBUM!.......2006-01-03

I have loved this record since the first time I listened to it oh so many years ago. This is, in my opinion, the best blues record ever recorded and that's saying alot. All of the songs hit the bullseye. "Driftin' and Driftin'", "Born Under A Bad Sign", "Tollin' Bells", and all of the rest were truly inspired renditions of these songs. I appreciate all of the previous and latter Paul Butterfield Blues Band recordings but "The Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw" is their zenith. Do yourself a favor and get this fantastic recording.

5 out of 5 stars 'Pigboy' is the killer Butterfield Album.......2005-02-03

From Kim Whitesides colourful images to the blistering music inside this cd. This is the best of the Butterfield band during that tumultous period between its 'start' in 1965 to the late 1967 period. This album cooks with driving tunes such as 'Drivin Wheel', 'Driftin' and Driftin' and Born under a Bad Sign. After the departure of Mike Bloomfield Elvin Bishop kicks this band up several notches. His stinging solos and dynamic rhythmic interplay with other band members including drummer Phillip Wilson make this a hands down success. Phil Wilson here pumps one beat after another into this creative ensemble. He is worth the ticket alone. Sadly this wonderful musician was murdered in the 1990's. Butterfield's singing catapaults this band into 4th gear. This is the blues as it was meant to be played. Tollin' Bells is the sad and lonely blues harp wailing at life's misfortunes. The band sounds fresh and excited about this music and it still burns after several decades. Go get it!

1 out of 5 stars YOU'RE BUYING THE WRONG CD!.......2004-11-03

Yes, this is the great PBBB's 3rd album, but it's not the CD you should be buying.

This domestic CD was released in 1989 and has never been remastered.

The import 2CD version of this title (backed with the PBBB's 4th "In My Own Dream") is the one to get. It was remastered in 2004.

Ditto for "The Paul Butterfield Blues Band" & "East West"; the 2004 import 2CD is also remastered (and sounds incredible) and the domestic CD's are not.

Why WEA and Elektra have not made these four remasters available domestically is a mystery.

Don't waste your money on these inferior versions: Get the imports!

5 out of 5 stars The picture.......2006-12-11

I haven't purchased the CD but the picture of the inside of a church on the cover is not of a British church, like one would assume since it says its a recording of British choirs. This picture is of Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Just thought i'd let you know. I'll be honest; I'm one to judge things by it's cover and if the company took such care to choose a 'British' church for their British choir CD, I'm willing to bet the music is equally well selected... I'm being sarcastic. But I gave the product 5 stars because I didn't want to hurt its ratings just because i'm cynical. But check out the church if you're ever in Montreal, it's truly beautiful... here I'm not being sarcastic.

5 out of 5 stars So f*cking Metal!.......2007-07-11

I saw them at Sounds of the Underground yesterday at Orlando... the energy and power they brought to the stage was phenomenal. Before seeing them, the only song I had heard from them was "Resurrection" from this album, and I really liked it. Once I heard them play their set I was blown away and immediately went to the booths to pick up this CD (and a shirt).
After my first listen through of the album, I am eager to play it again and again. Aside from the self-titled track I am already addicted to, my next favorite would possibly be "Pleasure In Pain" for the dynamic range of vocals and brilliant guitar work.
Buy the CD and wear it OUT!

3 out of 5 stars Chimaira = Pantera lite.......2007-06-22

These guys try so hard, but they are oh so average.
3 stars for effort and i still liked them live

5 out of 5 stars YES!.......2007-05-24

This band is a breath of fresh air. It is great to see people can still play hard like this. The singer sounds like the guy from The Haunted in One Kill Wonder and Made Me Do It. I swear they are identical, wouldn't be surprised if they are related or the same exact singer. The raw heaviness and the blend of cool sounds like bells and synth melodies occasionally popping in make this a very interesting listen.
CHIMAIRA RULES!

5 out of 5 stars Superb Thrash Metal - Best of 2007 (so far).......2007-05-18

The Resurrection (literally) of metal continues...

Chimaira has given us the most brutal metal release of 2007...

This thing is not only heavy, but fast...

Reminds me of the early Slayer and Kreator...

WOW is the best word to describe Resurrection...Excellent release...No, AMAZING!!!

5 out of 5 stars Why aren't they getting the recognition they deserve?!!!.......2007-04-07

Chimaira has done it again, they've released an album that rips you to shreds and then stomps you flat! Like with their self titled album Chimaira, they've set a new standard for themselves and for the metal scene. Also, they've stayed true to their roots and at the same time experimented and tried new things.

The album starts off full blast with the title track "Resurrection," the pounding "Pleasure in Pain," followed by the crushing assault, "Worthless." Early Metallica comes to mind when they get more experimental with the 9 minute epic "Six." The solos are very memorable and its definitely much slower than their old work, well worth listening to . Then things get more intense with the thrash-like "No Reason To Live."

The second half of the album tends to slow down more, but picks up toward the end. The slowest song "Killing The Beast," is personally my least favorite song, I typically skip it, but listen to it once in a while. Mark Hunter experiments more vocally on this song, it works but not to the extent you'd expect from Chimaira (no "Salvation"-like screams here). Then the slightly faster "The Frame" ensues. Its a great metal song, but not up to Chimaira's standards. The last part of the song sounds similar to how "Inside The Horror" ends. Then things really pick up with "End It All." Andols Herrick's hammering drums are at full throttle throughout the song, especially during the chorus. It's then followed by the heavy "Black Heart," and the mind blowing "Needle." Herrick's drums on "Needle" alone should put Chimaira up for a Best Metal Performance Award. Then lastly, we get to "Empire." The orchestra work really gives it a dark, atmospheric sound. The lyrics give great depth:

Do you believe in me
Enough to sacrifice
Do you believe in me
Enough to end your life
.....
When you walk the path
You will discover a world undreamed of
Your suffering will be legendary
Do you believe in suffering

It took a couple listens to really have it sink in, but overall, this album is as powerful as their self titled effort. Except for two mediocre songs, "Resurrection" will definitely stand strong among 2007's best metal albums.

An idiosyncratic folk favorite and a huge influence on acoustic guitarists, the reclusive John Fahey reemerged as an unlikely inspiration on a younger generation of indie underground rockers during the years before his death in 2001. The result is this freewheeling, wide-ranging tribute that is much more concerned with capturing his unpredictable spirit than mummifying a musical form. Sonic Youth's Lee Renaldo makes his interpretation a noise collage of electric guitar, traffic sounds, and spoken word. Sufjan Stevens melds a propulsive intro to a stripped-down, harmony-laden hymn. Coproducer M. Ward plays barbed-wire electric guitar, while Giant Sand's Howe Gelb interprets Fahey on solo piano that is part barrelhouse, part music box. Only Peter Case's gorgeous rendition of "When the Catfish Is in Bloom" could be confused with one of the "American primitive guitar" master's own recordings, but everything here has its own internal logic. Fahey devotees, old and new, will love the tribute--a collection that should inspire fans of these artists to seek out the source. --Don McLeese

5 out of 5 stars As much as I dislike tribute albums..........2006-11-17

I've had to make an exception for this one, on two accounts. First, John was a friend of mine, long ago, in my childhood and early adolescence, and then again, late in his life, after we had reconnected; Second, this is a remarkable album, and I generally dislike "tribute" albums. The very notion of trying to create a tribute to John struck me as ambitious at least, if not downright hubris-driven. I was of course right on the first count, but definitely wrong on the second, and the ambition is largely fulfilled here: it is a tribute, and a nice one. The artists involved seem, without exception, to understand what they were undertaking, even if it was a Mission Impossible. Some come close. A few clearly fall far short of the mark, but all do so with love and a genuine understanding, I think, of what this project was about. It's something any of us who ever knew John would have liked to try, but never had the nerve. Thank god some good volk got up the nerve. Peter case is probably the most eerily accurate in his rendering of "When the Catfish Is In Bloom", which has always taken me back to those early days when I was an awestruck teen who would listen to John noodle, compose and play as he and the other older guys sat around on the grassy slope at the edge of the Takoma Park rec center ballfield across the street from my house, at night. This is almost time travel, something John managed to introduce me to, first in theory, and later from beyond the grave with his recordings. Sufjan Stevens seems also to have captured the spirit, if not the precise duplication of notes, on his lovely "Commemorative Transfiguration and Communion at Magruder Park." This actually works very well for me, especially because I was there at Magruder Park on the 4th of July in question, and it has always stood out for me as the definitive Independence Day, even the careening arrival of John and company in his '57 Chevy, nearly taking out the brick wall flanking one side of the entrance, which was the only way one of his caliber should have arrived, and which occasioned much alarm and screaming among the attendees as well as the occupants of his car. Stevens seems to have somehow understood the meaning underlying this work and treated it with the spiritual respect it demands.

Cul de Sac, who actually played with John on an album (the recording of which was clearly traumatic for leader Glen Jones and which strained John's peculiar notion of patience)do an admirable job with "Portland Cement Factory", mainly by cranking up the noise level some, which I believe will gratify John, wherever he may be. Late in the game John was looking for noises - sounds - which helped define the spirit of place in which the music was set (listen to his "City of Refuge" album for the approximation of the B&O railroad snowplow sound of our youth - John's and mine - to get a feel for what this means to his later music).

Nothing here is bad, much of it is quite good, and it is clearly friends and admirers who have done what they felt was appropriate, whether it be attempted note-for-note reproduction (Sligo River Blues) or simply a personal translation (Calexico's turn on "Dance of Death", a piece that deserves a special place in American music outside the soundtrack of "Zabriske Point") and gets to become a standard here. Where John was composing for something he believed to be onerous and evil (the title can be misleading, but the story behind it is abundantly clear), Calexico has taken this personal horror story and turned it into something one can recognize yet listen to without one's teeth being set on edge, which was how John was feeling at the time he laid it down.

I could go on, but there are many excellent reviews here by others equally familiar with John's work, and so I'll leave it at this: I hate tribute albums, but I bought this one, and I love it. I also love the cover art, and feel the title was absolutely inspired. I knew I was going to like this in spite of myself, when at first sighting I felt a lump in my throat. This is a remarkable album and a work of love.

4 out of 5 stars Tribute to a Guitar Master.......2006-04-29

John Fahey's music and style have long been a benchmark for all contemporary acoustic guitar music, and it's great that many alternative and "freak-folk" artists have rediscovered and connected with him. This tribute album is testimonial to that, and the interpretations of Fahey's songs, mostly on acoustic and electric guitar with accompaniment, run the gamut from reverent to loose. Peter Case comes closest, perhaps, to "channeling" the Fahey sound in "When the Catfish is in Bloom". Devendra Banhart and Calexico also do a fine job with "Sligo River Blues" and "Dance of Death", respectively. Co-producer M. Ward gives the fuzzbox treatment to "Bean Vine Blues #2", a tune that sounds strikingly like a Scott Joplin rag; and Sufjan Stevens remakes "Commemorative Transfiguration and Communion at Magruder Park" his own, complete with a spiritual chorus. (Stevens has found a soulmate in Fahey, who also loved long, convoluted song titles.) Cul de Sac imbues "The Portland Cement Factory at Monmouth, CA" with a touch of industrial noise, which seems strangely appropriate. And Howie Gelb plays a mean barrelhouse piano on "My Grandfather's Clock", the only track not featuring guitar. The musicianship in this mostly-instrumental collection is uniformly accomplished, and though you may not find every performance endearing, there is a lot to like and appreciate here. It's a fitting tribute to one of the true guitar masters of the 20th century.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting Tribute.......2006-03-28

A great idea: arrange an eclectic fingerstyle guitarists compositions using whatever instruments and arrangements you want, and dig deep into what these compositions really mean in the process. Some repetition, but the Calexico, Banhardt, and Ranaldo cuts are worth the price of admission. Plus, you get to hear Howie Gelb play one on piano.

4 out of 5 stars It's about time.......2006-03-03

Fitting and loving tribute to the absolute master of, whattaya call it, American Folkie Guitar Plunking....every cover version done here is nice and adds something new, though my fave right off the bat is "When the Catfish Are in Bloom" by Peter Case.

4 out of 5 stars A Fine Tribute to the `Broccoli of American Guitar Music'.......2006-02-21

I'll say up front I am a Fahey Fanatic, and here are the two reasons I got this disc from Amazon: a. I was curious as to what this disc might offer to me musically, and b. to point me to Fahey-like artists to fill the void now that Himself has deceased.

I was tentative about my purchase because it is a tribute album. Most tribute albums typically contain one pearl in a bowlful of cacca. I was hoping that this was the exception.

But 'I Am The Resurrection' turns out to be a great tribute to the John Fahey gestalt---that beautiful fingerpicking guitar style, the immense span of his musical dabblings, the fascinating and imperfect person he was.

Fahey has always been the broccoli of American guitar music. Nutritious and good for you, but plainly not to everyone's liking. It took a lot of guts for these musicians to get their creative arms around such an esoteric task. I imagine it was also one heckuva `gas' to creatively tackle it. I salute the artists who contributed to this work, as well as M Ward and Steve Brower whose vision produced it.

I initially expected to hear tracks of imitative playing style, the artist taking a Fahey recording and playing it as faithfully as John would. Those who try succeed:
Devendra Banhart on *Sligo River Blues* performs a classic paean to classic Fahey.
Cul De Sac boldly does *Portland Cement Factory.* My expectations here were high-- these guys actually played with Fahey for a while and they picked a tough tune to do. The only way to improve on it would be to turn down the volume on the cement factory noise just a bit.
When the Catfish Is in Bloom*, a song from Fahey's Vanguard years, in Peter Case's playing style almost sounds like The Master. But Case stays unique and non-copying. Good song choice and faithful execution; the upbeat tempo an improvement on the original.

I recommend this disc to you because of the following artists who took the tribute one step further, avoiding imitation and adding their own twist to a Fahey tune to `out-Fahey' Fahey doing Fahey.

My favorite is the *Dance of Death* by Calexico. They take an inventive approach to the arrangement, respectful to Fahey's compositional vision. It's jazzy, foot tapping, cool, and complex. I think I'm gonna check out more music by Calexico.
*Sunflower River Blues* by Pelt These guys capture the essence of Fahey's blues vision---A simple melody played well, and played tightly, in the true rural American style. I particularly like the guitar--Fahey's instrument of choice-- taking a melodic backseat, as rhythm to the lead banjo. Curious, this tune is totally unlike any of their usual 'industrial-ambient' music.
*Bean Vine Blues #2* is a quick, blues cachaphony by M. Ward. His twist is to whip it out full-tilt on an electric guitar! All tribute songs should be as good.
*Joe Kirby Blues* by Immergluck, Kaphan, Krummenacher and Hanes. A good memorial amplified, and eerily done at a slower tempo than even Fahey would try. I love the `rocky' guitar solo toward the end. Not too shabby for a group that sounds like a Dutch accounting firm.
*Medley: John Hurt Shiva Shankarah* -- Currituck Co. Nice synthesis of guitar and percussion, well-executed, and played with the Ravi Shankar-like reverence that Fahey would show when playing spiritual music. Jaya Shiva Shankarah is one of MY favorite JF tunes, from *Old Fashioned Love*, a disc that nobody seemed to like (or buy) but me. I'm goin' to check these guys out, too.
*Death of the Clayton Peacock*, one of Fahey's more esoteric compositions this side of the Wall of Sonic Angst. Although the Fruit Bats' version sounds like background music from a Quentin Tarrentino movie, I gotta give them points for the tune's degree of difficulty.

One last thing. Like Fahey's own playing, this disc sounds better and better each time I play it.

4 out of 5 stars Great, but I am glad Mikael kept his day job..........2006-09-23

Ressurection through carnage is a pretty intense work of art. Fits very well in the Death/Gore Metal genre. Blast beats, rugged guitar, gutteral vocals, dark and violent lyrics, the works. I really like this CD, though I hate most metal of this kind. I was suprised because I was a little skeptical at first to listen to this album. I admit that I snagged it up because of the sole fact that Akerfelt is the vocalist, and his vocals are ferocious and raw. The guitars are decent, with no riffs that will blow your mind, virtually no bass, as is usual in this genre. The drums are decent.
Overall this album is average at best, and I am thankful that Mikael left this band and went to work full time with Opeth, nuff said.

5 out of 5 stars One of my Death Metal favorites!.......2006-07-14

Bloodbath is definitly a unique Death Metal band. They blend full on Death Metal brutality, with that Swedish Gothenburg melody sound, while not losing any of the anger and aggression in the vocals. The end result is a sound nothing like the rest. Maybe thats because Mikael Akerfeldt was involved on this album...and any fan of Metal knows that anything Mikael touches turns to a golden masterpiece. This is in my opinion their best album. If you're looking for something brutal, heavy, and unique while still remaining TRUE to the roots of Death Metal planted so long ago, then this is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Simply brilliant and brilliantly simple.......2006-03-14

I must admit that I find traditional death metal (Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, etc.) rather boring, and so-called 'melodic death metal' horrible. So I approached this cd with caution. But I was in for a very pleasant surprise, as this cd turned out to be amazingly good. Bloodbath manages to be both traditional/old school AND melodic while steering clear of the pitfalls associated with these concepts. This album really, really rocks, it's heavy, it's evil, and though not furiously fast, quite decently paced. Death metal with a rock'n'roll feel, a la early Entombed or The Crown (but of course very different!?).

4 out of 5 stars A Great Homage to older Death Metal. .......2006-02-06

BLOODBATH - Resurrection through Carnage
-
All the reviewers seem to either overrate this album (5 stars is a bit much) or drastically underrate it.
Truth is this just good old fashion Death Metal. Nothing mind-shattering, nothing too complex... Just good Heavy Death Metal.
The Good:
-Mikeal Akerfeldt does the Vocals... (This was in fact the reason I decided to check these guys out...) I mean Mikeal's Growls are by far the finest the genre has to offer... Truthfully I never really liked the `growl' until I started getting into Opeth.
-Another plus side.... Chainsaw Guitars, gives it such an early 90's DM feel. Brings me way back to old school DM... at first listen didn't really like it but now I actually enjoy the buzz of the guitars.
-Catchy Choruses! Which is seldom in DM but it sounds great Akerfeldt, hammers the songs into your head. Listen to songs like `So You Die', `Cry my Name', or `Buried by the Dead' - It is a definite bonus that songs which are this heavy still have recurring sense of melody.
The Not so Good:
-The Drums: I know everyone seems to be hammering this point but the drums are just really simplistic. Their not bad per say, It's just when I think DM, I think crazy drumming like Cryptopsy or even Morbid Angel. This was just decent. (However on their newest album `Nightmares Made Flesh' - Swano returns to guitars and they have Martin Axenrot from Witchery on the skins now.)
-Also in a way I was a bit disappointed with how `basic' this album is. I guess this was what they were aiming for but being familiar with Opeth and hearing about the Legacies of Katatonia and Dan Swano I expected more technical precision.

All that aside, I definitely recommend fans of Death Metal (Specially, older DM) give this a listen and take a trip back in time... This is easily better than 90% of your typical Death Metal.
[Also check out their latest `Nightmares Made Flesh' which despite their loss of Mikeal on Vocals it may be a better overall album.]
Favorite Songs: Cry My Name, Bathe in Blood, So You Die, and Trail of Insects.
-4 Stars

4 out of 5 stars A new Twist on Death Metal.......2006-02-04

If you think all death metal sounds the same, think again. Bloodbath really is a great new twist in the Death Metal market. I stumbled onto these guys by listening to a demo disk that I got when I purchased Napalm Death's "The code is Red, Long live the Code" Even though there are about 20 bands on the Demo Disk, only 6 or 7 really stood out, and Bloodbath was the best of the bunch. I decided to purchase the CD and I wasnt dissapointed. I am not going to say that they are the greatist thing in Death Metal, but in some odd way they are just different. Its almost like Thrash Metal then Death, yet it still delievers a powerful punch. Give it a try, I think you might like it. ENJOY

As the title implies, former Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford has returned--to his roots, if not his senses. After Fight and Two, Halford's post-Priest "experiments" (read: attempts to expand his market base), failed to set the charts afire, it was the singer's career that seemed to need a little resurrection. Hence this (he claims) largely autobiographical, often strangely nostalgic trip down metal's memory lane. That Halford's black-leather sensibility extends beyond his couture is immediately apparent; the crunching, occasionally modern rhythms (Ray Chindeau on bass, Bobby Jarzombek on drums) and twin guitar assault (Patrick Lachman and Mike Chlasciak) offer a familiar metal landscape of thundering riffs and rapid-fire, diddly-squeak solos for Halford to unleash his ungodly howl upon, with the just the odd ballad (the touching "Silent Screams") to shift the mood from anxious/angry to melancholy/angry. Fellow fading metal merchant Bruce Dickinson even drops by on "The One You Love to Hate" (self-esteem problems, fellas?) to swap some venom. Lest we forget that Halford was instrumental in inspiring This Is Spinal Tap, there are lyrics here that thoroughly blur the line between the sublime and the ridiculous ("Cyberworld"'s dire warnings that the Internet is "a Trojan Horse that eats your mind") and mix metaphors ("The world's a stage that's waiting for its bad ass to be kicked") with inspired abandon. In short, a heartwarming return to form. --Jerry McCulley

Awesome album back to the roots metal from the MEtal God!!! \m/

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2006-09-27

I gave this CD five stars because I think it is quite amazing that modern technology has made this man sound like that.
I have seen Rob Halford many times, with Judas Priest and with the various musical associations that he has assembled through the years, and even though the experience was memorable because of the music and the general attitude of the crowd, his voice leaves a lot to be desired. The cult-like adoration which exists in my native country is most likely due to the fact that they have never heard him live!
Plus hearing the CD spares you from having to endure the sight of him which is quite repulsive!!

4 out of 5 stars Return of the Metal God.......2006-07-05

The first thing that comes out of your speakers is a piercing scream that brings a smile to your dial. Then it's repeated. This albums first two tracks absolutely rip, both Resurrection and Made In Hell somehow being deeply personal diatribes yet also having an almost universal appeal. This album is worth buying for these two tracks alone.

The standard does drop a touch after that but nobody is likely to write a whole album of face melters like the first two tracks. Other highpoints would be Locked and Loaded, The One You Love to Hate and perhaps Nightfall for something different.

This is a rousing return to form, in fact it's an album that can be enjoyed by general metal fans and not just the Judas Priest fan who is the person most likely to read this review. A very very fine album from someone who genuinely cares about craft and it's also an album that really benefits from having another great production job by Roy Z.

5 out of 5 stars Guilty Pleasures.......2006-05-31

I have to admit that for a time I was lost and there was no more good sounding or written hard rock or metal anymore, so I started to explore the forbidden world of rap to get my angry drug induced sex fullfillment lyrics which introduced me to NIN and Korn which led me to Tool and rap metal infused groups. Which did not really feed my hunger, like a herion addict I would hide in my closet and pull out my metal of yesteryears to help my soul( In that early part of the new mill. you were laughed at for that old stuff).
Then one day it happen, Halford, I bought it with out listen ( why not ) and haven't looked back!!!!! He brought the old metal back made it new again and now old bands have been following suit with new bands copying the metal recipe of yesteryears. I just love the album so much I blew out my speakers twice and got several speeding tickets, this album just makes you crank it up floor it to the metal and makes you scream with pleasure. Buy it and you will understand, Judas Priest did lol.

5 out of 5 stars Essential for Priest Fans.......2006-04-28

After leaving Judas Priest, Rob Halford was in three bands. Fight, Two, and Halford.
Fight put out two albums, Two put out one, and Halford put out three. Out of all those projects, this is my favorite. Fight was very Pantera-like, but really good.
Two was like Nine Inch Nails, but was also very good. Halford sounds like classic Priest mixed a little bit with Fight. The band features Halford on vocals and as always, they are just so good. Rob Halford proves that he is one of the best heavy metal vocalists of our time on this CD. Patrick Lachman on guitars (Lachman went on to become the singer of Damage Plan with Dimebag Darrell of Pantera on guitar)
and this guy is a whiz. He cranks out some ripping guitar solos. The bassist and drummer are also very good. The only thing this CD really lacks is Scott Travis on drums (Travis left Priest with Halford to join Fight, but then left to join Judas Priest with Ripper Owens). This album really is good, I think it's better than a couple of Priest albums. Here are the tracks:

1. Resurrection-5/5-Like on many albums, Rob Halford starts the song with a high pitched scream. This song, the verses not the chorus, sounded very simalar to the Fight song "Into the Pit" but this song is still rocking.
2. Made in Hell-5/5-Sounds like an old Priest classic, but is now a Halford classic.
3. Locked & Loaded-5/5-This is a great song, but for me it's disturbing. I shouldn't say this just because Rob Halford is gay, but some of the lyrics creeped me out. "I'm gonna shoot it, because I'm locked and loaded".
4. Night Fall-5/5-Another awesome song. The guitar playing is great.
5. Silent Screams-5/5-The best song on the album, so far.
6. The One You Love to Hate-5/5-The beat is absolutely rocking.
7. Cyberworld-4/5-Too short, but still good.
8. Slow Down-5/5-Some of the best vocals on the album are right here. It's a little slower than the other songs on the album, but still great.
9. Twist-5/5-It's catchy and has some fairly good lyrics.
10. Temptation-5/5-I'm surprised that the lyrics on this song are good. But, yeah, great song.
11. Drive-5/5-The best song on the album.
12. Saviour-5/5-Ripping guitar solo. One of the best songs on the album.

Essential for Priest fans.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars TKK Rules!.......2007-04-09

While I enjoyed the Reincarnation of Luna years ago, and the follow-up Golden Pillz: Luna Mixes, I must admit that this newly recorded, remixed Resurrection is even better! A very enjoyeable album to groove and move to!

5 out of 5 stars Ryko releases a nice updated version........2007-04-03

The cd art has changed, the mixes are fuller, two additional tracks, what more do you need to know? Seldom re-releases which are remixed work out this well, but "Resurrection" doesn't fall into that trap. This time around we also have a nice jewel case rather than those cardboard digi packs.

The two new tracks are; "Hallowed By Thy Name" previously only available on an Alice Copper tribute and Kult Konnection produced compilations, and a remix of "Temptation Seranade" which is a bit more old school minimalism with some demonic acid twangs. This is a nice update on a better label for a band that deserves more than being associated with "indie" labels run by unprofessionals.
