My acquisition of this enjoyable Small Faces CD has come about as the result of my appreciation of Ronnie Lane. Having been a fan of of The Faces, from back in the day, and later a fan of Slim Chance, I wanted a CD which had some of Ronnie's earliest songs. If you can agree that the Immediate Years of Itchycoo Park and Ogden's Nut Gone Flake are the prime years of Small Faces, this CD captures those albums in their original order with some very nice extras. Since this CD was made in Germany, its superior sound quality is also evident. While there are other Small Faces compilations avialable, which also include the Decca years, this CD gives you Small Faces' cream of the crop with nice extras like Call It Something Nice, You Me And Us Two, Green Circles, Red Ballon and The Autumn Stone. Check out the song listing, while Darlings of Wapping Wharf gives you seven instrumental tracks on the second CD, this CD only gives you the best of those instrumentals 'Picaninny', and you are not missing anything in such a compromise. Because based on the current price on Amazon, as well as the sound quality, this is a very good buy, since the only track that sounds out of place is 'If I Were a Carpenter'(live). Finally, you have to love the cover of this CD, which shows Ronnie Lane in the background, because it emphasizes both the heart of the Small Faces and Ronnie's pastoral roots.
