Delays singer-guitarist Greg Gilbert has such an incredible voice that he might be the only man in rock who has drawn comparisons to both Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks and the Cocteau Twins' Liz Fraser. That's just the first sign that this English band is not just another standard-issue moody Coldplay knockoff. Instead, the music on its debut album conjures the blissed-out guitar-and-grooves sound of classic English groups like the Stone Roses and the La's, with each of the three opening songs delivering devastating knockouts. The rest of the disc doesn't easily repeat the feat but the band's exuberant spirit easily carries through. -- Aidin VaziriCustomer Reviews:
took me a while, but i got there in the end !!.......2006-02-23
as many have said in their reviews here the first three songs do grab you instantly, but are they the strongest on the album ?...18 months ago i'd have said definately...but after buying the album for myself and incessant playing of it now im not so sure, the others really do grow on you, for me its strong all the way through....
as with any band that produces such a killer debut album there's a huge pressure to continue that success with their second attempt and sadly many bands fail...well, they've just released a new single here in England called Valentine and its superb, im off to see them live in three days time and im anxious to hear their new material....hopefully they'll produce the goods again and the next album with recieve just as many if not more glowing reviews...fingers crossed :-)

Thank you, Blender Magazine, for turning me onto this band.......2005-04-14
The awesome thing about them is that a lot of their B-sides (only available on the import singles ... or 'net d/l) are at least as good or BETTER than their album tracks! A few of THOSE that stood out to me (and it would be worth your time to seek them out) are Quiet, Zero Zero One, Overlover, Safety in Numbers, Way Smooth ...
If you're getting burned out on all the garbage music in the world ... give this a shot. And this, coming from a guy who normally listens to music mixed/made with two Technics 1200s.
a rare, amazing album.......2005-03-23
yes, as previous reviewers have noted, the first three tracks are strong. but i'd also include 'stay where you are' and 'on' in the strong tracks category. some tracks are more upbeat than others, but that's cool with me as the sound of the entire album is so consistently beautiful that i think it works whether happy or sad.
buy this album. it's beautiful. it resonates with every sad longing for a return to innocence, every desire to go somewhere more enticing and exotic than where you are right now. so cheesy, i know, but it's like a soundtrack for your soul.
Good, but not Great Debut.......2005-02-15
Also, if you like this kind of music, you may want to check out bands such as Geneva and Puressence - similar vocal and song structures (although possibly not quite as happy and bouncy).

Melodious And Edgy.......2006-12-23
In addition to 'Long Time', I found the tracks 'Hey Girl' and 'Wanderlust' particularly well arranged and performed. There is actully not a weak cut on the album, and the videos on the second disc are just a bonus.
I suppose I would catagorize Delays as a fusion of pop, garage band, Beach Boys and Korgi's, with the ambience of a little seaside glory thrown in. They deserve a wider audience across the pond in the U.S. And, their follow-up release; 'You See Colours' proves it!

Album Description
Signed to Rough Trade at the beginning of 2003, THE DELAYS are described as tech-friendly British Byrds, crazed acousti-rock with a fresh flowering of florid, ethereal future-pop. Packed with sumptuous West Coast harmonies; cloud- busting falsetto vocals full of beauteous yearning, splendid desolation & synth atmospherics. A 'Cathedral Of Sound'. If one characteristic defines Delays debut album 'Faded Seaside Glamour', it's delicious, duvet-wrapped melancholy and sunburnt devastation. This is a record mournful of its past but with a dizzy fervour to go out and devour the world. This Japanese version features the enhanced video to 'Long Time Coming'. Labels / Rough Trade Japan. 2004.Customer Reviews:
Fine debut album of melodic pop.......2004-07-09
"Nearer Than Heaven" is the clear standout track, the catchiest song I've heard all year. "Wanderlust" and "Long Time Coming" are the other best songs on the album. Since these are the first three songs, the album makes a fantastic first impression, one that the rest of the album can't fully live up to. "Wanderlust" and "Nearer Than Heaven" sound something like a more accessible Cocteau Twins, but the rest of the album shows classic rock influences. "Hey Girl" wouldn't have sounded out of place on the radio during the '60s.

You'll be humming along to this in the car, tapping your feet commuting to work and dancing around your lounge room to the sound of Delays!
Certainly this album intends to make a mark on the international music scene, an absolute gem. The next thing I want from the Delays is Australian tour dates!

An Absolutely Stunning Debut Album that was Preceded by Three Hit Singles "Nearer Than Heaven", "Long Time Coming" and "Hey Girl". This is Pop in Its Purest Form with Excellent Songs and an Enticing, Pleasing Sound. "The First British Band in a Decade to Lay Serious Claim to the Melodic Guitar Pop Throne Invented by the Byrds and the Hollies and Last Occupied by the Stone Roses" Says the Guardian.Customer Reviews:
