After crushing NWA on a solo tip on his monumental album Death Certificate, Ice Cube continues the conscious path on this great follow-up album The Predator. Standout Tracks: WHEN WILL THEY SHOOT, WICKED, THE PREDATOR, WE HAD TO TEAR THIS MOTHERF***** UP, DIRTY MACK, WHO GOT THE CAMERA, IT WAS A GOOD DAY, 24 WIT AN L etc. Filler: Gangsta Fairytale 2 falls short and Check Yo Self is not better than the remix. Bottom Line: Ice Cube proves his importance to the rap game with this dope follow up The Predator. The socially and politically conscious rhymes over rough sounding production plus the informative skits are the reasons why this album stayed in my Cd player. Ice Cube's earlier albums are important contributions to hip hop and if you dont understand the message then maybe you shouldnt be listening to it. Tony Yayo, Lil Jon and D4L is more of your style. As for this album its cd collection material all the way!

Cube's Most Successful Selling Album (Rating: 7 out of 10- -3.5 stars).......2007-01-26

Around this time, Cube was putting out albums year after year. "Amerikka's Most Wanted" is a classic and one of my favorites. Then he dropped "Death Certificate" which is another classic. Next up to bat was his third (full length) album, "The Predator".

This was considered Ice Cube's most sold album. His biggest hit song "It Was A Good Day" still gets a lot of rotation on the radio, and is still dope to listen to as well. Cube was still in his political stance though. It wasn't as heavy as "Death Certificate" and "Amerikka's Most Wanted". Around this time people might have been calling him a racist, but he was out trying to prove otherwise. If you hear the inserts that are on this album ("I'm Scared") you can hear some of the opinions that people had towards him about what he was saying.

Now for the music itself, it's overall dope. There are a some tracks that easilly became some stadouts. As popular as "It Was A Good Day" was, people forgot that "Wicked" was another single (and I think it was the first), featured Don Gorgon. "We Had To Tear This _______ Up" is another track that I found interesting, and Cube showing off his hatred towards what was going on around that time. The origonal version of "Check Ya Self" is also a hot track that featured Das Efx, which I find to be better than the remix.

This album is flawed though. I find a few tracks that fall under skip material here. "Whos Got The Camera" is one of them. Another one would be the weak sounding "Dirty Mack". Another one I didn't have the feel for was "Gangsta's Fairytale 2".

And if you purchased this after 2003, you get a few bonus tracks. You receive the radio edit of "Check Ya Self (remix)" a single that was just as popular as "It Was A Good Day". The remix to "It Was A Good Day" just didn't work in my opinion and falls under skip material. "24 With An L" and "U Ain't Gonna Take My Life" are some good tracks in addition to this album. All of these tracks would also appear on the "Bootlegs And B-Sides" album.

Overall, this is a dope album. It showcased Cube's anger with issues that were going on around that time back in the 90's. This is a good album to have in any hip hop collection, although I don't find it to be good as everyone is saying. There are good tracks on here, but I also find a lot of skippable tracks here as well. When it comes to the remastered albums Cube has had between 1990-1993, "The Predator" is his highest selling album, but in my opinion, I also find it to be his weakest out of the group. Don't hesitate to pick this up though. You probably will have a different opinion that I have.

Approaching classic territory.......2006-12-23

Great beats and lyrics to match. Why? The lyrics talked about social problems in serious but sometimes humorous and clever ways. That makes the music relevant. Most other rappers talk about themselves which is tiresome. But Ice Cube masterfully talks about society such that you are entertained but also makes you think on a few points about where we are as a society.

this brings you back to the day about not giving a f*ck. pop this cd in and listen to the stories ice cube tells. i enjoy this cd and this was my second ice cube cd i ever owned and to this day i still listen to it. highly recommended

4.5 Stars: THERE'S A REASON THIS WENT PLATINUM IN 4 DAYS..........2006-08-15

For those that don't know, this album went platinum(1,000,000 sales), in it's first 4 days of being released, which is obviously incredible. Also, for those who don't know... Ice Cube holds a tie for the most platinum records of any rapper ever, along with Too $hort. They are both currently tied at 6, but if "Laugh Now, Cry Later" hits off huge he will be the world record holder. Some people say that he fell off here, and I can see where they are going with that, becsue Cube's style definately does switch up on this record. And now in 2006, he has completely hit rock bottom by working with the destroyer off Rap, Lil' Jon. Well anyway, this album is packed with more traditional Ice Cube controversial topics such as politics, racism, and more. Which in my opinion is what makes this record so brilliant. He once again stands up for his race and rights which is never wrong, not to mention he had what could arguably be his most succesful song ever which is obviously "It Was A Good Day", which basically makes the album purchase worthy already, but it does not stand alone. Aside from the whole album being respectably solid and consistent there is always the crazy "Check Yo Self" featuring the vigorous Das EFX, who makes the song just flat out crazy. Although that is shadowed by the brilliant remix with the Grandmaster Flash super smash hit beat "The Message" behind the whole song playing as this songs rhythm. This song is even crazier and really sets off the album, although the remix of "It Was A Good Day" isn't that promising. Sadly. However, the other bonus songs are not as dissapointing. Overall, the album is close to classic just for the controversy, and justice. Pick this up if you don't want to hear any holding back. Especially when it is only $9.99 or at most $12.99 at Best Buy, or hell, grad a $20, and go pick this and "AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted" up... You don't know what your missing.

This is an Intense Heavy Metal Cd. I highly recommend this purchase only for devout Metal fans. Its a mix between Hardcore, thrash, and speed metal. If you enjoy Soilwork's music also check out In Flames.

The best Gothenburg has to offer.......2006-04-05

I have three words for you: BUY THIS ALBUM. A Predator's Portrait put Soilwork on the death metal map, and for good reason. This album is by far their best, even considering their other stellar works, namely Natural Born Chaos and Stabbing the Drama. Every song on A Predator's Portrait will smack you right in the face. Starting with the in-your-face opening track [...] Chain, Soilwork never lets up for a minute, infusing every song with catchy rhythms, energetic vocals and astonishing riffs. Speed Strid is one of the most talented vocalists in heavy metal, and Ola Flink is at his best here on the bass.
Soilwork has often been overshadowed by fellow Swedish death metal juggernaut In Flames, but their ability to put out consistently mind-blowing albums has brought them to the forefront of the international metal scene. Seeing them live is second to none, but they're great in the studio as well, and this album really showcases that. This is one of my favorite albums of all time, staying true to the essence of heavy metal while bringing an upbeat, exhilarating style to the table. Every metal fan needs to own this album, period.

Soilwork's best album.......2006-03-07

God, I love Soilwork. They are one of the best melodic death metal bands ever, and I just can't get enough of these guys. I went out and picked up "A Predator's Portrait" over the weekend and I must say after listening to it numerous times, this is without a doubt Soilwork's best album of all time compared to the other three albums (Natural Born Chaos, Figure Number Five, and Stabbing The Drama) that I own. Every song on this album is melodic, ferocious, and in your face. Bjorn "Speed" Strid is an awesome vocalist. Not only can he scream and growl ferociously, he's also got a great clean singing voice as well (this is actually the first Soilwork album to ever introduce his clean voice). Ola Frenning and Peter Wichers are really on fire on the guitars here. They just let off a barrage of fast heart pounding guitar riffs that will grab you right by the throat, and endless leads and solos that will make your jaw drop in sheer delight. On here you've also got good bass from Ola Flink, awesome keyboard effects from Carlos Holmberg, and awesome drumming from Henry Ranta.

SOILWORK - A Predator's Portrait

Pretty much an all around awesome album! Even though nothing entirely new is offered, since fellow musicians such as ATG, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity having already laid much of the ground work for the genre. Yet Soilwork was able to make incredible album on all accounts.

- Stunning musicianship, especially the guitar duo Peter and Ola, both are even flashier on this release then on Natural Born Chaos, (The other album that I have by them.) Also, Vocalist Byron (Aka Speed) has on of the best voices the genre has to offer. Besides his powerful raspy growl he has a great singing voice (This is apparently the first album he introduced the clean-channel vocals...) I also like how they are used more sparingly on this album (As opposed to N.B.C.) Drumming is actually quite varied and he offers a bit more than the traditional beats expected by the genre. The Bass provides a great wall of sound though it, in itself, is quite standard. And last are the Keys which are used appropriately to further thicken the bands wall the sound.

- Fantastic song writing, in fact, there is not one bad song on this album. Tracks like: Needlefeast and Shadowchild are par with anything written by any of the Melodic Death greats I mentioned above, truth is, every single song on this disk is listenable and each really brings its own artistic merit.

Like I had said earlier this album doesn't really break any ground in the genre, but it was par, if not exceeded the genre standards. Basically, it just kicks a lot if ass. (Similar to what Unearth's - Oncoming Storm was to Metal-core)

Favorite Songs: A Predator's Portrait, Shadowchild, Bastard Chain and Needlefeast.

Possibly the best Soilwork album of all time........2006-01-03

I went out and picked up this album a few days ago along with as I already have STD, FNF, and NBC. I guess you could say Im working my way backward.

Compared to the other three of their albums I have, A Predator's Portrait puts them all to shame. The guitar harmonies are incredible. Bjorn's vocals are incredible. His transitions from screams to melodic vocals are wonderful. Well placed melodic choruses really give this album personality.

If you like bands like In Flames, Mnemic, At The Gates, Dark Tranquilty, etc, go pick this up along with ALL of their other albums.

Side note: If you like Soilwork and all the above mentioned bands, check out Illdisposed, Dew-Scented, and Sybreed.

It's true that Cube's third solo album lacked the righteous fury and sonic assault of AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted and the visionary social scope of Death Certificate, but calling it his third-best album is hardly a consolation prize. It remains the last great album that Cube released before giving in to his gangsta-god complex on later efforts. From a political point of view, Cube doesn't bring a whole lot of new ideas to the plate, but musically the album sounds as good as ever with its dark and aggressive beats. Cypress Hill's DJ Muggs lays down some thick, rolling bass lines for "We Had to Tear This Muthaf---er Up," while DJ Pooh jacks a smooth '70s soul loop from the Isley Brothers for "It Was a Good Day," leaving Cube himself to handle the beats on songs such as "When Will They Shoot," with its stomping beat and flinty edge. --Oliver Wang

Solid 3rd Release.......2006-08-15

I dont see whuts the hate all about, sure cube changed and broke out of the funkey beats that we were shown too in AmeriKKK's most wanted but in my opinion I think this album is very solid and filled with funny sexual/vulgar lyrics with asskicking beats braught by the likes of people like DJ Muggs(CYPRESS HILL!!! YAAAY). Well Anyway I dont really think there is one bad track on this album the only problem I had were the Fillers(one right after the other!!!)

Cube's 3rd solo is nother good one.......2005-10-15

Not his best album, not his worst, The Predator seems to fall right in the middle. It came out just one year after his last album and 2 years after his debut (right after he left N.W.A.), so alot of Cube albums came out from '90-'93 (one each year). It has 12 songs, and no guests so alot of Ice Cube gets heard here. It has 1 classic, 2-4 I skip, 3-5 are ok, and the others are good. Production is good for iots time buy you can tell it's defintiely from the early 90's. DJ Pooh does 4 songs, Muggs does 3, Sir Jinx does 2, and Pockets, Mr. Woody and Torcha Chamba all do 1 song. Every song samples an older song so it's not the most original of beats but the samples are mostly good. For fans of Cube or early 90's political type gangsta rap pick it up.

Ice Cube, the best rapper of the 90's released his fourth solist project at 1992, the success was astonishing. Debuted at number 2 at the billboard and it sold millions of copies worldwide. With #1 singles like "It was a good day" and "Check yo self"

The penultimate collection ..........2006-12-07

Generally I agree with Strategos in his ecstatic Spotlight Review above. It is a joy to here some of the most memorable themes and cues from some of the most memorable science fiction and fantasy movies (re)recorded in great sound and in lavish (re)orchestrations, played by renowned classical orchestras, namely the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra, no less.

I have always had a weak spot for (good, or maybe even intelligent) science fiction/fantasy and film music, especially its way of evoking mystery, grandure and wide open spaces. Call it a weakness if you want. But it was maybe really kick started off, for as far as I can remember, with Star Trek. But especially Star Trek II, III and IV - essentially a trilogy - because of their very romantic but very warm, human core, set on the broadest canvasses of unlimited and mysterious outer space. But then there was the music for adding that essential extra dimension of emotion and atmosphere. I am happy that much of the music on this album is from the Star Trek series and films, often equaling or sometimes even outclassing the original recordings.

This kind of music (for the movies) should be seen as an art on its own rights with its own merits and qualities. As such, the musical sequences on these CD's are a beautifully played cross section of some of the most evoking orchestral music for science fiction/fantasy film ever created. And I very much like the nicely blended, wide and deep orchestral soundpicture with enough reverberation to evoke a sense of wide open spaces.
I am quite thrilled by tracks like the evocative music from Dune, truly transporting one to the vastly sands of Arrakis (the music is wonderful, but to my great regret I think the movie itself is a flawed masterpiece at best, alas.). And then there is the very different, goofy music for Ghostbusters (memories of childhood), the spoofy but electrifying music from Mars Attacks (lovingly parodist music, this, with not a little touch of irony) and the happily adventurous, forward driving Theme from Galaxy Quest ('Never give up, never surrender!'), now also used for the internet-based fan-series Star Trek: The Hidden Frontier. On the other side of the spectrum we have the atmospheric music for Enemy Mine (an underestimated 'little' movie), the Theme from The Right Stuff (actually science FACT, not fiction, this film, just like Apollo 13, of course), the eerily attractive music for Species, the original End Title for Alien (not used in the theatrical version of the movie, where it was replaced by music from howard Hanson's Second Symphony), the exquisitely exotic music for Stargate, the sweet and warmly sympathetic, beautifully re-orchestrated, theme for Starman, the title cue for Star Trek: TOS (much more melodiously played than the original! If only a series nowadays could continue to be as thought provoking and as original as Star Trek was during its launch, fourty years ago ...) and a truly overpowering End Titles Suite from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. I especially like the thrillingly grandiloquent rendition here of the music for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. And how nice it is to hear the (thematic) similarities between James Horner's music for The Wrath of Khan, his great break-through as a film music composer, and his (two years) earlier music for Battle Beyond the Stars (which did indeed help him earn the job for writing the music for Star Trek II) ...

But on the 'down side', if one is looking for - for example - the gorgeously expansively played End Titles from Cocoon, it is not included here: one has to acquire the album that 'kicked it all off', so to say, namely 'Space and Beyond', also on Silva Screen. I was very pleased also with the inclusion on that album of some of the music from the series Star Trek: The Next Generation, namely where one of the characters, Tasha Yar, in one of the episodes (Skin of Evil) is saying goodbye to her crewmmates: sweetly sentimental and simple music which I have always wanted to own on CD. I guess that a few cues from the other two sequals ('Alien Invasion: Space and Beyond II' and 'Space3: Beyond the Final Frontier') didn't make it onto this 4 CD collection-album as well, but I guess that it would be the 'better part of the bargain' to opt to buy this 'The Science Fiction Album' instead of buying all three albums separately. Well, of course it is for yourself to ultimately decide what you really want ;-)

If I were to nitpick (which is not easy with such a marvellous project as this one), then I would say that while all music is performed with magnificent grandure and with style, some of it is not performed as crisply and as technically 'on the spot' as some of the original recordings: ensemble is a little slack and the playing somewhat stilted sometimes, losing some of the edge and the originality of the writing. ET and Star Wars spring to mind, but then the soundtracks for Star Wars are traditionally recorded with the magnificent London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro John Williams himself, and these superior recordings (especially the ones for Episode I, II and III) can't really be bettered, IMHO. Likewise for the music from Star Trek: The Motion Picture, I believe that in the end one really has to resort to the ultimate reference, namely the original recording (which is true in many other instances of 'original recordings'), and then the 20th anniversay colector's edition of this soundtrack on Columbia/Legacy (truly unmissable, this veritable classic of sci-fi/film music soundtracks!).

But all in all this 4CD-collection amounts to probably being the penultimate high quality sci-fi music album collection (I certainly know of no other project that comes as close quality as well as quantity wise), with some of the most memorable musical moments from classic to modern sci-fi/fantasy film captured in lavish orchestrations.
Collection-wise: five *stars*. Playing: generally four *stars*, sometimes more. The recording quality: five *stars*. The music (qualified on its own merits as film music) and its (re)orchestrations: generally five *stars*. In the end this is all highly recommended, and certainly not to be missed by science fiction and fantasy film music fans. Klaatu barada nikto.

You wonderful four disk collection of SF music. It startsa up the the grand master of SF music, 2001: A space Odyssey all the way to Superman. This is all American SF music and several themes I would have liked to have included are not there. All in all though, a collection you will enjoy.

The Ulllllltimate Sci-Fi Music Collection.......2005-10-23

If one person gives great gifts, it's the illustrious Codemaster Talon. I've received a fair number of gifts in my lifetime, but so far, my older sister's take the cake. Take this one for instance. I'm real big on orchestral music, to the point where I listen to them more than any other kind of music. I've got orchestral versions of video game themes, orchestral soundtracks to truck-loads of anime shows (Big O, Escaflowne, and Giant Robo are incredible), and could probably spend the rest of my life just trying to study the nuances of all the classical music I've got. Being such a huge fan of orchestral music, I also have come to believe that orchestra music produced for movies and television is the new classical music (or as someone once said, Mozart would be making music for movies if he were alive today). Being a huge sci-fi fan, that kind of music has always been particularly near and dear to my heart. But were I to buy each and every soundtrack for every sci-fi I liked it would cost quite a bundle, and would include a lot of sub-par music along with the grandiose and fantastic main and memorable themes. That's where this beauty comes in.

The moment I ripped off the shrink-wrap and popped it into my cd player was a moment of great trepidation. Believe me when I tell that I've seen my fair share of sub-par orchestral recording in my lifetime. Very often they are in those big super-packs of music, and suffer from poor direction, improper mastering, and sometime even pathetic orchestration (or worse yet have something sounding like a cheap synthesizer and a kazoo in place of a full orchestra). I needn't have worried though. This sucker is fantastic.

Many people who are not audiophiles will probably miss the point of this cd collection. It is not the original versions of the pieces. It is re-orchestrations, mostly by the phenomenal Prague Symphony Orchestra. Many of these themes didn't sound all that hot in there original versions because they were low budget films or were not recorded in high-fidelity. Here they are given the full treatment, mastered with the most loving care imaginable. Often the version found in these cds is SUPERIOR to the original.

Remember the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey? Of course you do. But how many times have you heard a cheap imitation of the original version from the movie, starting too low in volume and ending too high (and missing the essential pipe-organ that gives it that extra oomph)? Well, this first track in the entire collection is not only everything it should be instrumental and timing-wise, but it also has been oh-so-carefully adjusted during the mastering process so that at no time is the music either too low or too high in volume (surely a benchmark for every other recording ever to be made of the piece).

Or what about the theme from the (at-the-time) uber-creepy The Black Hole? The orchestration of this piece of music goes from tiumphant to terrifying and back again, with a splendor and cleanness that I CERTAINLY don't remember being in the original recording.

Then there's the new version of the theme from Independence Day, complete with a violin solo, a far more electrifying ending climax, and a chorus so thunderous that you feel like applauding at the end. Simply indescribable. Kind of like the MIND-BLOWING rendition of the theme from The Last Star Fighter. This has been one of my favorite themes for a long time now, but I've never heard it played like this. I think the original version of the theme is something like 1 minute long, but this new version doesn't just fade out (HAHAHAHA!!!!) THIS version is THREE minutes long, goes through the main theme THREE times, with the final strains being so triumphant and joyous I could not help but feel an electrifying charge the first dozen or so times (come to think of it, I still feel that way). This is superior to the original in EVERY way. AWESOME.

And let's not forget the incredible new rendition of Stargate with it's heavy use of clarinets (for Egyptian effect!) and a triumphant new ending (completely lacking the chanting from the original version. This version is so different that for the first minute it is very hard to tell that it is in fact Stargate. But then the main theme kicks in, and then you get this incredible flute solo for my favorite part of theme (the whole thing is played slower, but arguably more powerfully than the original). My goodness. At first I found the thing so different I didn't like it. But then I listened to it again. And again. And again.

I could go on and on, talking about the fantastic new rendition of Moon Raker, the ear-popping Battlestar Galactica, the classic Star Trek (First Contact has a minute or two of the theme from Star Trek:The Motion Picture before going into the main theme), or the sweet renditions of music from the Star Wars movies (or the music from E.T.).

I have to mention though that this collection was not picked based merely on what people want, or on what is popular. No, the people who made it obviously thought a GOOD music collection was better than a popular one. That's why you get a heartbreakingly beautiful theme from A.I. instead of the main theme. It's why you get music from movies that you probably never gave a second thought to the music (because the movie was lousy). It's why you get Armageddon, Judge Dredd, and Robocop (who would have guessed their music was so COOL when there was all that crazy action and bad-acting going on on-screen).

I said it before and I'll say it again. This cd-set was mastered with tender-loving-care, and it shows BIG-TIME. High-fidelity the likes of which I have not seen since the days when cds were brand-new in the world. Dolby Surround. Perfectly balanced. BEAUTIUFL orchestrations. About the only thing that makes me scratch my head is the weird sound-effect tracks (Oooookay.....). Other than that, it's PERFECT. Obviously they could not include every sci-fi theme ever (no one can), but this collection is REALLY GOOD. A lot of great themes that got away (forgotten gems :), new versions of old favorites, and under-appreciated classics aplenty, but ALWAYS the full and complete versions with nothing cut-out (the theme from Dune is quite extended).

If you love movie music (and sci-fi movie music in particular) you MUST buy this awesome collection). It is not the original recordings. Almost always the new ones are better (if they aren't better they're just equal). This is what you have been waiting for. I for one am going to be buying quite a few cds from this company in the future. Give your ears the treat they deserve. Buy it NOW.

I bought the Science Fiction Album as a gift for my son who is twenty-one years old. He is a musician, and also a huge fan of many SciFi shows and movies. I thought this would be the perfect thing for him and I was right. He loves it!

Away From to be a Collectible Peace.......2004-12-16

If you like Sci-Fi movies and want a compilation of their important scores, this is the CD-set to buy. But let me warn you about that very few songs in the cds are from the original soundtracks. Most of them is re-recorded by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. But the sound quality of cds are very good, because they have HDCD and Dolby Surround labels. This set is away from to be a collectible peace, but it is a good general compilation of favorite Sci-Fi movie scores.

Boston, MA -awesome Boston, MA metal band that was by far my favorite of the conference, I actually bought their CD"Asylum of the Human Predator". I belive the title track of the CD "Asylum Of The Human Predator " has become my new anthem; with lyrics like "Save me one time, won't you, take this blackend heart and make it whole... ). Every player in this band is at the top of his game and this is the kind of metal that deserves to be called METAL! Killer album with crushing drums, driving bass, amazing twin guitar attack and dynamic in your face vocals. Keep up the good work guys!

Not just "Another" metal band.......2005-08-30

I can honestly say, not many bands have touched me in the way that Hell Within have. The music the band creates is not only gut wrenchingly heavy, but also very melodic. Being a fan of Hell Within since there local, unsigned days (as Twytch), I can say that I am proud to see another Mass. based band do something right. The music on this album ranges in topics, dealing with issues such as the molestations in the Catholic Church (Asylum of the Human Predator), the war in Iraq (Merchants of the Blood Trade), to personal demons (Swallow the Stitches). While listening to this album, it really opens your eyes and makes you look at the world in another perspective, it gives you things to think about that you may not have previously had a whole opinion on.

Great album, in my opinion, a must own for any true fan, or just someone looking for a great album to add to there collection.

P.S.
If by some chance you can get one of the Limited Edition discs with a DVD (First Pressing only)look for me in the moshpit during the video for Self Inflicted Silence (Big red haired guy in a Marilyn Manson shirt). The Video was filmed in 2003 (while the band was still known as Twytch) at the Locobazooka Festival at the Fitchburg Airport in Fitchburg, Mass.

The music is irritating and stale, vocally lame, and just plain boring. Another lousy piece of trendy metalcore trash. Hatebreed s ucks enough, why do so many bands want to copy them?

Suitable Name For Such Excellent Music.......2007-02-20

The Taste of Blood is taking no prisoners with their 2nd full-length, "Predator". This CD takes the chaos of From A Second Story Window and Glass Casket, the aggression of Dying Fetus and Animosity, and packs it all together in one disc full of chaos. This band can pull off excellent gutturals, good drumming, and excellent vocal range, along with good instrumental talent. Highly recommended for those into the bands previously mentioned. It may not be exactly "tr00 death metal", but it's worth a listen.

Just a small taste of blood.......2006-02-04

I've got to hand it to the taste of blood. Back in highschool they were a hardcore band, and one of the biggest names in the small dismal scene of hardcore in santa cruz and they bay area. With the success of a few demos and "In Response to Affection" comes "Predator". Tribunal did a great job picking these guys up and Animosity (guitarist Chase Fraiser's other band). The Taste of Blood is now label mates with Psyopus, Into the Moat and From a Second Story Window.

This cd is pretty damn good, I am very impressed with it. It reminds me of from a second story window meets dying fetus. Taste of Blood really made a powerful statement with predator. it's a very strong "debut" even though it's not really a debut cd, just for tribunal. Cd packs a mean punch, and the live shows are even better. There is something for everyone, breakdowns and some gnarly shredding. Do yourself a favor and pick up this great cd. It's very impressive, especially since these guys are still really young. Look for them in your area, and take notice, they are the future of the death metal and hardcore fusion.

This Band Will Go Places.......2005-08-16

For as small as Tribunal Records is, their band roster is just becoming increasingly more brutal and talented. Such is the case with their latest release by The Taste Of Blood entitled Predator. The Taste Of Blood sounds like Glass Casket, without the constant repetition, better vocals, heavier and far more chaotic.

The Taste Of Blood haven't really done anything new on Predator, they've just done it better, with far better guttural vocals then most metalcore bands can muster. The only qualm encountered with the vocals is the lack of high screams to match the gutturals instead using a more typical hardcore midrange growl. The music aspect of the band is incredibly heavy with quite a few squeals and unrelentingly brutal breakdowns playfully spliced in.

If you're a fan of metalcore and are tired of all the whining and keyboards, The Taste Of Blood is well worth your time.

this cd slays. it is one of the best releases of 2005, by far. i thought it was much better than their first cd. i'm glad tribunal picked them up. like Shawn Edmonds stated, the breakdowns are rediculously brutal. they own everyone. bands like these are bands that should be getting bigger. their singer has a broad range of scream, their drummer is sick, and the guitarists are amazing.

a great effort, amazing instrumental skills and amazing vocals. The reason i gave 4.5 is sometimes the breakdowns on this record sound so ridiculously brutal in a death metal way, it loses focus when the rythm kicks back in like it dont match or something. I know a alot of people are going to go nuts about this band cause they have a very unique sound and have much potential. If you like on broken wings mixed with the red chord
you'll fall in love with this record

The history of the original "Predator" score by Alan Silvestri has been a difficult one. There was a fictional bootleg company known as "Alien Records" that produced three versions of the score from 1997 to 2001. The tracks varied a bit from bootleg to bootleg: For example, one bootleg would include "Long Tall Sally" by Little Richard and seven minutes from "Blown Away" while another version would have music from Silvestri's "Stop! Or my Mom will Shoot!" added at the end as a bonus track. The official release of the score in 2003 by Varase Sarabande was part of their special Club Series and, get this......it was limited to ONLY 3000 COPIES!!! Because of the super-low production numbers it remains one of the most sought after and EXPENSIVE film scores to date. I've seen prices of the bootlegs on Ebay range from $90.00 (used/re-sealed) to $200.00 (new/shrink-wrapped)! A great action score? You bet! A lot of money? You bet! Yeah I loved the movie and was crazy to purchase this soundtrack. I recommend it to all who would like to buy it.

The shipment was done exactly in the specified date which amazed me. However I received it with it's case broken in a 2 cms area. So for transport I would give it on a scale to 10 : 5.

For Fans of the First.......2004-02-26

Of course, many soundtrack fans bought this one for the music cues made so famous in the first movie soundtrack (now newly released by Varese Sarabande, and hopefully available here soon!), but this soundtrack holds its own appeal, with rearranged versions of the main title with the jungle drums and blaring brass passages. The chase music parts are also breathtaking as always, and plenty of low-key, "sneaking around" music cues too. This CD will satisfy your thirst for the exciting theme music, but too often, I found myself skipping ahead through the slower stuff to find the rearrangements of the familiar cues we all know and love. Now that it's out, save your money for the original. This is only an appetizer!

Predator 2 Soundtrack Rocks!!.......2002-06-08

As with the first score, Alan Silvestri does a magnificent job creating real suspense with a Bernard Herrmann-like sound. Silvestri provides a mixture of instruments just like Herrmann did for many of his great film scores! While this score isn't as good as Silvestri's score for Predator, it does have the same powerful sound and intensity. I highly recommend this to any soundtrack buff!!

Should be longer........2001-11-20

Not a very thorough soundtrack CD but it does contain the best and most exciting cues from the movie. "Tunnel Chase" is the best recital of the main Predator theme and "Dem Bones" is powerful and sweeping. The track "Rest in Pieces" is the only return of the sad, sombre theme from the original.

The 2 Predator movies are of Silvestri's best work and this CD should be popular with you if you are a fan. Let us hope that Varese Sarabande release a more wholesome version in the future and possibly the score for the first movie, which is strangely unavailable.

I've had this now for 7 years and I still love it. I never gets boring and is always moving. 4 very well deserved stars.

This soundtrack was sub par. For the sequel to the AVP series you must do the fans justice and get Alan Silvestri's material form Predator 1 and 2 and Jerry Goldsmiths and James Horners themes From Alien/ Aliens. Bring back the old themes and the next movie will be light years beyond the original and will become a modern Classic Like Predator 1 and At least Alien. You Guys remeber Freddy vs Jason listen to the music with Freddy and Jason themes every now and then throughout the movie. C'mon you rich boys make it right this time. Also guys the Predator's eyeballs look way to human not scary,at all. Use the old predator 1/ 2 colors!!!!!!!! Thanks Y'all.

Easily one of the best film scores of the year and worthy of an Oscar nomination, Harald Kloser puts together a great score for the film. The sound is incredible! Alan Silvestri's Predator themes are not present but this has some of the coolest and neatest music! I recommend this score!

Varese Records takes us on a ride of escapism with "Alien Vs Predator", featuring the magnificent score of Harald Kloser, who also gave us "Thirteenth Floor" [1999] and "Day After Tomorrow" [2004] ~ just to name a few, there are more if you want to check them out.

The music is a roller coaster experience "HANGING BODIES" ~ listen to "ALIEN VS. PREDATOR MAIN THEME", is almost hymn like in content, as if you're standing in cathedral witnessing a funeral procession passing by, very haunting ~ "ANTARCTICA", blends percussion, heavy brass and pure orchestration abound with lifting strings that echo back and forth ~ "TEMPLE", sends vibes of native American instruments mixed with solo piano and strings, very effective ~ "HISTORY OF THE WORLD", main theme comes through with alternate arrangements, under towing counterparts surface and a chorus quietly brings a new beginning of chanting that will give you chills ~ "ALIEN FIGHT", Kloser pulls out all the stops on this one, hold on tight for a fast and entertaining journey ~ "THE END...OR MAYBE NOT", featuring all cues remixed and setting up a possible sequel.

Composer Harald Kloser brings film music to the maximum ~ been listening to this album over and over again, his depth and orchestral mix of tempo, drama and mood swings is incredible ~ look out James Horner and John Williams, Maestro Kloser is giving all the "film-score-buffs" pure satisfaction through his compositions...just the way we like 'em!

Since i first knew about AVP, my first tought was "I hope it's not a crap", since i was fan of the Alien series.
With this soundtrack it happen the same thing. All other scores were great, but i didn't knew if Harald Kloser was the right choice.
Happily i was wrong. Kloser's music works really good with the movie, with its combination of orhestral and electronic sounds.
As a standalone listening, is really a beautiful score, since the "Alien vs. Predator Main Theme" and the action themes like "Alien Fight" and the chorals in themes like "Alien Queen", all are really great themes.
If you liked the way of Goldsmith, Horner, Goldenthal, Frizzell and Silvestri's work, you sure will like this one too.
I really recomends this score.
A better score than i tought it was going to be.

"Virtuous" is simply about temptation... similar to a Picasso painting, the viewer can look at the same painting and get a million different interpretations".

I'm 12, and even I can tell this is about as goth as 50 Cent. Ooo, so dark and spooky....if you can call Britney Spears in leather pants spooky. Try And Also The Trees, Children On Stun, or Andi Sex Gang. Those are REAL goth bands. Or for some great dark poppy stuff, there's Strawberry Switchblade. Don't be fooled by what the media says...this scag is in no way, shape or form 'goth'. 'Background filler for pseudo-alternative clubs' is more like it. Feh.

If you're looking for a good new goth band, you might want to look elsewhere. This is run-of-the-mill pop trying to disguise itself behind an "edgy" fashion statement and some "please pay attention to me!" trying too hard lyrics. If I could give this zero stars, I would. Don't waste your time.

Let's take a look at the album description, shall we?

It likens Ms. Bishop's sound to 'heavy electronic industrial metal', and compares her to KMFDM and Nine Inch Nails, and then quotes a reviewer who refers to it as 'Beautiful Goth'?

Now, I'm just a simple country reviewer, but last time I checked, goth music was neither industrial nor metal. As for beauty, that in itself is highly subjective. I'd say 'Beautiful Goth' would be Danielle Dax, Patricia Morrison, or Dinah Cancer. This woman just looks like they took a Christina Aguilera look-alike and made her slightly more 'edgy'.

Another word used is 'Dark Alternative'. I can certainly agree with the alternative part, as it's clearly an 'alternative' to GOOD. But dark? Possibly in the way that such god-awful bilge as Korn or Marilyn Manson is dark. Dark in the sense of pre-manufactured rebellion, all nice and safe, but with a "spooky" image to rope in the angsty teens with too much of their parent's money in their baggy jean pockets.

If you want REAL 'Beautiful Goth' music with REAL passion, try Xmal Deutschland, Blood & Roses, Asmodi Bizarr, or Bone Orchard, because there's certainly nothing goth about Sariah Bishop.

I listened to some of the songs with an open mind, and I couldn't take much more of the "I'm so gawff woe is me!" attitude. I don't see originality here. It's just another fine example of an over-produced album designed for neo-goths to purchase with glee in order to make a few people rich.

I can only see this as a ploy. It's the sex-appeal gimmick, "buy my album because I'm so hawtt" like HIM uses. Sariah is rather attractive to me, but I'm not about to buy an album for pretty pictures. I find her singing marginal too.

In all honesty I have heard EBM that sounds more unique than this. :\

Don't waste your time.......2005-05-24

Anybody can get out a program, through some beats together, speak/sing some "dark and gloomy" lyrics and dress up in black. It's not new and original, and she fails at the task, miserably. She can barely even sing, which is why she probably chooses to speak most of the time. She looks like something they drug off of Baywatch (fake tan and all) put some leather and black clothes on, and then told her to "sing" some redundant, angst-filled lyrics. She's not fooling anybody.

She gets 1 star for keeping me entertained whilst listen to that trash.
