Customer Reviews:
Good Album but Just Not As Good As Original.......2006-01-31
I bought "Cracked Rear View" in '94 and couldn't wait for the next record to come out and in '96 I got my wish. This record is great, but it just didn't have all of what the first record had. I still really do like this record though. My favorite tracks on here are "Sad Caper" and "Old Man and Me". If you like Hootie then you should like this album.
They Just Keep Getting Better and Better.......2005-01-31
Hootie & the blowfish have done it again, they have created some of the best music I have ever heard. One of my absoulte favorite Hootie songs is on here and that is the "Earth Stopped Cold at Dawn." Nanci Griffith (the girl in the song) does a great job at the harmony with Darrius. Anyways this is one of my favorite Hootie albums and definetley recommenend that if you want some easy listening too music, that you should definetley get this album.
I May Want To Check Further.......2004-07-30
This is a better sounding album than what I first anticipated. I mean after all with "Cracked Rear Veiw" setting the world on fire like it did I would still like to meet "Hannah Jane"(namesake of my all time favorite Hootie song). I was first put off by this when the group decided that "Old Man and Me" was the first single to come off the album, but to me it was a huge mistake as it was tired sounding, and just dull. I'm glad that it wasn't the first song off this cd otherwise I may not have wanted to continue. I feel that the first song is one of thier greatest, and "Tucker's Town" I can still hear traces of "Hold My Hand". I've only given this a 3 star rating until I hear the rest of the album. It may change.
Up yours sophomore slump!!!!.......2003-11-06
Forget whatever you've heard about Hootie & the Blowfish up until now. People who say they're soulless pop music have obviously never listened to (any of their music but especially) this album. The boys ROCK on here, turning up the guitars and letting Dariius loose. You cna hear it right away. Be The One is a big boot up the @ss lettin you know that Hootie's back and means business. Songs like Sad Caper and She Crawls away slow things down, but are guaranteed to move you. Meanwhile, Tucker's Town manages to rock while still saying something important, So Strange is back to full gear, as the boys craft the perfect anthem for a sunny day with your special someone. Here's a perfect test of Fairweather Johnson's mettle: wake up, put on Earth Stopped Cold At Dawn and look out your window. When the chills run down your spine (and they will), you know it's time to get this album.
Took Seven Years to Appreciate It.......2003-08-09
I bought this album after its original release in 1996, and disliked it greatly. At the time I was twelve and had grown fond of their poppy tunes I had heard on the radio. After purchasing 'Fairweather Johnson', I was, more or less, bored. The songs are slow and not quite as catchy as their previous attempts, and for about seven years I placed this on my shelf and allowed it to collect dust. For some odd reason I picked this album up about two weeks ago and popped it into my stereo. I felt very much the same as I did seven years ago. Then I listened again and heard the words.
The lyrics are deep, the songs are sentimental, and now, seven years later, I can truly appreciate what this album is all about. Yeah, it's slower, but the songs have meaning. Ironically, 'Old Man & Me' is one of my least favorite tracks on this album, though I had enjoyed it when I first bought this album. It may take a while to grow on you...in my case it took nearly a decade, but I'm glad I gave it another chance.
My favorite tracks (in no particular order):
Tucker's Town
Sad Caper
Let it Breathe (my personal favorite)
Fool
Tootie
So Strange
Give it a chance. That's all I ask.
