One of the Stones' most beloved albums, 1969's Let It Bleed was a benchmark for several reasons. First, founding guitarist Brian Jones died during the recording process. Second, the Stones take their last significant look at pure blues (Robert Johnson's spooky "Love in Vain") and country ("Country Honk," the two-stepping alter ego of "Honky-Tonk Women") before folding both styles into a cohesive rock & roll vision. Third, it contains some of the band's most eerie hits, such as the flame-enveloped "Gimme Shelter," the drug-reality anthem "Monkey Man," the epic "You Can't Always Get What You Want," and Mick Jagger's menacing "Midnight Rambler." --Steve Knopper

2 out of 5 stars A very strange album-with one all time classic song.......2007-07-20

I bought this album after initially being satisfied that my 3cd Stones' compilation and their later "Jump back" compilation were sufficient for having the best Stones' songs. What changed? I saw Mick Jagger perform solo in Australia many years ago and a guy I went to the concert with got excited when a certain song started to be played [along with the audience]. I asked what it was...thought he said "Jimmy Shelter", which just confused me!

Anyway, when I heard Jagger play that song live, I considered it to be an instant classic. It's started to be played more on Australian commercial FM radio since then, fortunately. And I do remember this song being listed on some internet poll as the Stone's greatest song...a sentiment I have to agree with, or at least share the honour with "Jumpin' Jack Flash". Gimme Shelter just has has a nice subtle guitar sound and male/female vocals which put goosebumps on the back of your neck.

On this album, there is distortion of this song, and I'm guessing that the recording technology was not able to capture the bigness of this song's sound.

So, why only two stars for this album? Firstly, I don't give albums a lot of stars for merely having ONE great song on it. Secondly, like I say in the headline of my review, this album is passing strange-I did NOT expect an album full of blues and country music from a pop/rock group!

It's been a while since I've listened to this album after I bought it recentlylish [some months ago]-so, going on memory, I think that "Country honk" is what WOULD become a compilation staple, Honky Tonk Women. Unfortunately, it is a little too country for me.

This album does have other songs that often make Stones' compilations, but it's just that I don't particularly like those songs! E.g. "You can't always get what you want".

If you've never heard "Gimme Shelter" [which absolutely shines as a song due to the great female vocals in the song], then either buy this album, or the Stones' compilation "Hot Rocks". If you choose to buy this album, however, then make sure you like or are open to blues and country music.

I'm not sure if this album often gets listed as one of the Stones' great albums, but for me it is not that good [this is the only regular Stones' album I have, along with my two compilations comprising 4 cds].

For die hard fans only, I think, though Gimme Shelter is a 5 star song, in my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars OH MY GOD! MAYBE THIS IS THERE BEST ALBUM? ANOTHER MASTERPIECE!.......2007-07-11

Wow! What a line up! As soon as you hear the opening guitar of Gimme Shelter you know your in for something special! I love "Country Honk" How many groups have that kind of balls to not include a classic hit like "Honky Tonk Woman" and do a country version of that song for the album? Most groups could only dream of having enough great material to do something like that! The Stones were at the top of the game between "Beggar's" & "Exile". They managed to put out four of the greatest albums of all time, a fantastic live album(Ya Ya's) and an incredible hits set with Hot Rocks! This is an album that should be in every music lovers collection!

5 out of 5 stars Stones And Guests make a classic........2007-07-05

The Rolling Stones and their guests made a great one with Let it Bleed. Keith is at his best, His song Silver is one of the best. Nicky Hopkins piano at the start of Monkey man is creative.Byron Berlines fiddle makes Country Honk better. Al Kooper plays Frech horn, Piano and Organ on Cant always get what you want. Bobby Keys has a good solo on Live With Me. Ry Cooders mandolin is good on Love In Vain. Mick is great on here his vocals are great and good harmonica on Midnight Rambler.

5 out of 5 stars A another Stones classic.......2007-05-24

Led It Bleed is the follow up to Beggers Banquet and its just as good if not better than Beggers Banquest with its country, blues, and rock music.

5 out of 5 stars Worth it?.......2007-04-29

The album has been reviewed for content excellently on these pages. I will only comment on this New Edition.
I have listened to this album since 1973, and have LP and CD.

Was it worth to buy this Remastered version?

Absolutely. I hear things in the mix that I'd never heard before (even with my older and well-abused ears!).

Same for Aftermath, and Beggars Banquet. There's a new freshness on these re-editions that is simply staggering.
Of course, only if you have listening equipment that can capture these details... But even on my old Quad and Heresy's the difference is amazing.

Despite making it through a difficult four-year stretch in which the band temporarily broke up, singer Shirley Manson left her husband, and new technologies made the sleek electro-rock sound of its first three albums feel passé, Garbage resurfaces in rude health on Bleed Like Me. Manson is still kickboxing the air and stomping the glitter under her heels, as she channels Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde on edgy glam-rock anthems like "Run Baby Run" and "Metal Heart." All the while three bookish producers in the background--including Butch Vig, who famously helmed Nirvana's Nevermind--turn up the sleazy machine-like rhythms. Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl sits in on the drums for the menacing "Bad Boyfriend," but it's the confessional title track Bleed Like Me"--part "Walk on the Wild Side," part therapy session for former cutter Manson--that shatters Garbage's image as the ultimate non-stick studio band. "You should see my scars," goes the chorus. And, for once, Manson is actually willing to reveal them. -- Aidin Vaziri

I only liked one song - Bleed Like Me. Oh well, stuff happens.

5 out of 5 stars So Close.......2006-11-12

Yes, Garbage's sound can be so close to a lot of people's heart. Just a ten years career and 4 lovely albums and they broke up. It's a shame, actually. This last album contain some track that really can make you shiver like "It's all over but the crying" and "Happy home"...Ballads that don't talk about easy feelings, there's always a dramatic vein in Garbage songs. Always, it doesn't mater if the song is a romantic ballad or a stunning hard rock song. Maybe is the sadness of life that pass through their music, sometimes it hurts, but can make You feel not alone.

5 out of 5 stars best band ever!!!.......2006-10-19

too bad they broke up, but this album is a tie with version 2.0, shirley manson only gives her best in everyone of her music. she is a truly talented woman...wish the band hadn't broken up though.
The new songs are incredibly wonderful.

5 out of 5 stars a classic.......2006-08-07

I love this album! I see in the discussions someone said you would only like this if you are "bitter and angry"...well, that's not me...and I LOVE THIS ALBUM. Shirley Manson is amazing. Not only is she gorgeous, she is a fabulous singer, and a great, intelligent writer. Although I don't agree with all the philosophies she puts into her songs(though yes, I'm anti-war and think she articulated in "Boys Wanna Fight" what's going on really well, I don't think a "free love" revolution will solve anything on personal or political levels..."Sex is not the Enemy" is a great song music-wise though...end tangent), I think she's a great example for women in many ways. We're not all waiting for a man to come along and "make it all better." We're not all demure. Shirley's lyrics express that in a society that does not accept it. Go Shirley.

I have heard people complain that this album is more straight-up rock n'roll and less "electronic" than 2.0, but that is the hallmark of a great band. The Beatles had "Sgt. Pepper" as well as "Let it Be". Led Zeppelin did "Black Dog" as well as "Tangerine." Great bands have range.

Garbage is the only band I love that came out of the 90's. And they're still rockin' in the 2000's. Listening to this album has helped me alot through some recent times. There are some very uplifting songs, as well as some songs that are so deep, true, and sad that they make me cry. Beautifully written.

I saw Garbage in concert in Spring '05. Shirley Manson is even more jaw-droppingly captivating in person. Rock on, Garbage! And thank you for all the great music.

4 out of 5 stars Garbage Bleeds.......2006-07-24

Shirley Manson and her rock band return with a good rocker album. Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl even makes a guest performance for the track "Bad Boyfriend". BLEED LIKE ME is a typical rock album. The guitars, bass, and drums are heavy and very rhythmic oriented with a lot of power chords. The guitars and bass also perform interesting counterpoint, but their distortion loose the melodic feel to their performance. Manson once again, gives a great performance in a rock style, but she also has some interesting melody lines as well. The contour to this record is well formed. Not all of the songs are a loud and heavy rock sound, some are quiet and have great harmonic progressions to them. The addition of keyboards and strings help in this aspect of the album. BLEED LIKE ME is interesting, and should be heard in its entirity.

Enchanced CD features contain the music video for "Why Do You Love Me".

Stand out tracks include:
"Metal Heart"
"Sex Is Not the Enemy"
"Boys Wanna Fight"
'Why Don't You Come Over"
"Happy Home"

Simply put, this is Cold's best CD. This is the CD that made me a lifelong fan. This is the CD that made me fall in love with Scooter Ward.

5 out of 5 stars Real Music at it's best.......2006-08-18

I remmeber when I first bought this , I got it when year of the spider came out and being new to cold at the time i listen to this album and thought is was ok then I listen to it again and was blown away by this album ,it quickly became one of my favorite albums and bands . Scooter Wards vocals sound amazing , the music sends chills down your spine just in the first few seconds of the 1st song just got wicked and in the song send in the clowns as it builds up as he says send in the clowns then it just exposeds and he screams send in the clowns. But over all there are no bad songs on 13 ways to bleed on stage , it one of those albums thats u can listen to and not have to skip any songs. I have to say my favorite songs are just got wicked , end of the world, confession , send in the clowns, witch, and bleed. I highly recommed this album and year of the spider and there self titled album .

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING production (recording quality).......2006-08-15

Ok, i normally don't post reviews on here, but i've heard complaints about the "recording quality" on this albums - the drums specifically.

I am actually a recording engineer, and let me tell you: this wasn't a low-budget album. The sounds that are dirty and dingy - like the drums on most tracks - are SUPPOSED to be that way. If you want pristine perfectly-tuned and poppy sounds, then listen to music that lends towards that sound. This album DOESN'T. The drums give an overall dark ambience to the rest of the tracks - the drums lay the ground for the emotion of this album, and the vocals are the cherry on top. The guitar sounds link in between - and they do it amazingly.

Adam Kasper had the biggest hand in the production of this album from the ground up, and he KNOWS what he's doing (Nirvana, mudhoney, foo fighters, the list goes on)

Great album. In my top twenty for sure.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional.......2006-07-07

This has been an amazing record for me! Ever since 2000 I've found many of the songs have lingered with me. This is the best record from this band. The vocals and drums are particularly great. Solid riffs and just awesome song writing.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Stones' finest!.......2007-07-04

A bit of rock, a bit of blues, a bit of soul, a bit of raunch... just what you need to make a classic Rolling Stones album! Some will say this is the group's best, and if it weren't for Country Honk (a fiddle-driven parody of the contemporary #1 Honky Tonk Woman, which is infinitely better), it would be. Now it'll have to settle for being prime Stones. I'm sure it won't mind.
Is Gimme Shelter the best opener the Stones or anyone else ever recorded? Possibly. It's a terrifying song, in a positive way: the best fade-in known to man, wailing harp, one of the best guitar solos known to man, and Mary Clayton's chilling vocal. Cool! And that guitar solo... Keith Richards is better known for his rhythm guitar, but his leads all over the record are excellent. You can hear more of that great playing on the hilarious, sleazy title, country-blues title track (Stu really gets down and boogies!), the creepy classic "blues opera" Midnight Rambler, where Charlie plays the drums of a lifetime; the sneering Live With Me, which is also pretty funny (and Bobby Keys plays a cool sax!), and the underrated blues Monkey Man, which is again quite funny (listen to Mick's monkey impression in the fade! And the guitar/drum tradeoff thing they do in the instrumental break! And Bill's vibes! What a SONG!) While we're talking about Keef Riffhard, alias the King of Cool, we must mention You Got the Silver. This was the first Stones song he sang lead on, and he sings it well - not a bad little country-folk tune either!
The Stones do the soft as well as the loud (an acoustic take on Robert Johnson's classic Love in Vain - love it!) and the philosphical as well as the sleazy (the multipart classic You Can't Always Get What You Want, my favorite Stones song ever - just listen to all the stuff they managed to layer into this one! Their best lyrics, too). What's not to like? Oh yeah, Country Honk. We'll just pretend that it's Honky Tonk Woman, shall we?
Oh, and a little message to anyone who thinks this is a rip-off of the Beatles' Let It Be. That's just proving you know nothing about either group. Let It Bleed was released before either the album or the single Let It Be. Besides, listen to both albums side-by-side. Pretty different, no?

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Stones.......2006-07-14

Let it Bleed should be near the top of any rock cd list. Sticky Fingers is close behind.

Monkey Man is so crazy cool
Midnight Rambler
Gimme Shelter
Can't Always Get What You Want
Live With Me is also crazy cool

Amazing! Something else that is amazing is how fast they went down hill in the late 70's. There were a few good songs here and there after the mid 70's, but nothing compared to the era of late 60's and very early 70's.

By the way, I think Exile is a solid album with a cool vibe, but it's not in the same ballpark as Let It Bleed. How Exile gets put on the top 10 list ever is a joke. It's good, but not that good.

Anyway, LET IT BLEED rocks & should be in the top 10 ever.

5 out of 5 stars Love in Vain.......2006-06-11

The Stones turned out a masterpiece with "Let it Bleed." There is not a bad song in the bunch, in fact the fact that every song on this album is a treasure makes it hard to pick a favorite, but for me, I have to go with the band's cover version of Robert Johnson's "Love in Vain." The soulful acoustic guitar work, Mick's pleading voice, the sad, unrelenting song, it's almost all too much. I cry every time I hear it. I've loved in vain, who has not. Then there is the dangerous sounding song, "Midnight Rambler." Boy that one will shake you. I also really love the way Mary Clayton's voice blends with Mick's in "Gimme Shelter. "And how could I not mention "You Can't Always Get What You Want." What a message in that song. Still, like I said, "Love in Vain," it's a heartbreaker, yes it is.

5 out of 5 stars Knocked Out Abbey Road.......2006-06-11

Because of the problems the band was having with Brian Jones, Keith did most of the guitar work on "Beggar's Banquet," and what a job he did. One almost wonders why they needed another guitarist at all, however the boys is the band felt they did and hired Mick Taylor, who is great. Keith's work on "Gimme Shelter" is just chilling and his first solo vocal effort on "You've Got the Silver" is terrific. Dare I say it, this guy could have had a pretty good career all on his own, but if you've got to play in a band, he picked a pretty good one. Mick Jaggar is in top form rocking his socks off in "Midnight Rambler." That song is just scary, scary good, not scary bad. In fact the whole bloody record is scary good. It's easy to see why "Let it Bleed" dethroned the Beatles" "Abbey Road" as the number one record in England way back in Nineteen Sixty-Nine.

5 out of 5 stars The Stones' Best.......2006-06-11

In some ways "Let it Bleed" could be called sort of a transition record. When the band started the recording sessions, Brian Jones was a member of the Greatest Group on Earth, when they finished he was out, soon to be dead and Mick Taylor had taken his place. Brian is only on two of the songs, but Mick Taylor is only on two songs as well. This is also the first record where Keith takes over the lead vocals on a song (You've Got the Silver). And this record picks up where "Sympathy for the Devil" left off. It's a rocker and it propelled the Stones into the stratosphere. No more are they living in the shadows of the Beatles. They are the number one band in the world now. It happened because of this record. "Let it Bleed" is to the Stones as "Blood on the Tracks" is to Dylan, an outstanding work that one simply cannot ignore.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME CD........2006-05-27

This CD is worth every penny. All the songs in this CD are great. Some people want to compare this band to Chimaira but they have their own unique sound. I went to see them live and Noah's voice is the real deal. He has an incredible vocal range. The guitars and drumming are incredible. This is a must have CD for your collection!

5 out of 5 stars Bleed the Sky.......2006-04-18

I really wasn't expecting much from this band, considering the recent METALCORE OVERDOSE flooding the market and the association of the word "Bleed" in a band name with awful music. I was getting kind of sick of Metalcore but this was one of few i don't regret listening too. First off, the drummer kicks ass, the guitars are great, and there singer has a yell that is reminicent of Mark Hunter from Chimaira. He even has a half decent singing voice, although it does sound heavily FXed often times. If your going to compare this band to Chimaira, then lets compare them in an area where they will be better then Chimaira for the reviews sake. What im trying to say is if you were to put Bleed the Sky's debut "Paradigm in Entropy" next to Chimaira's debut "Pass Out of Existence" i'd say Bleed the Sky would own Chimaira. I'll look forward to a future release by these guys and see what direction they've decided to go in, definite potential here. If you like Chimaira, or Metalcore in general i'd recommend this record.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good Album.......2006-04-18

I must've listened to Bleed The Sky's debut album "Paradigm In Entropy" like 4 or 5 times already. Whenever I listen to this album, it just warps straight into my head, and I just can't get enough of it. These guys reminds me of Chimaira alot (one of my favorite bands), but with more intense shrieks and more clean singing. Noah Robinson has a nice vocal range, going from a vicious shriek like scream to an awesome clean singing voice that's not overdone which is a good thing. Guitarists Kyle Moorman and Wayne Miller have some nice crushing dual riffs and even a few solos which is pretty nice (although I wish they could've done more solos on here, but oh well there's always next time). But it's Austin D'Ammond's drumming on here that really gets my attention. This album is chock full of sick double bass drum patterns throughout that really get your adrenaline going. The album kicks off with a bang with my favorite song "Minion". I just love that solo near the ending, it kicks ass. The next three songs "Killtank", "Paradigm In Entropy", and "Skin Un Skin" are juggernauts of ripping double bass drum patterns and searing riffs that'll rip your bare flesh off. Other good songs including "Leverage" and "The Martyr" showcase Noah's clean singing abilities. The other songs are good, but those are my favorites. So anyways if you're a fan of Chimaira, then I suggest you give Bleed The Sky a shot. Grab a can of Monster Energy, put this badboy in your stereo, turn the volume full blast, and raise those horns. Peace Out!

Well, let me just say one thing...im european, and I dont understand why some american people put american metal down to nothing, as if the only thing you do is to copy the pure grain european metal...let me disagree. I didnt knew Bleed the Sky, until I bought this album, and really...its a good album. The vocals could be better, the drums are quite good, and guitars convince...I think they do sound great, not original, but they can create a sound of their own. Very intense music, good to listen, and worth buying.
Its true it still sounds raw, but give the guys a chance, and time to build up their sound...some great bands only achieved that after 3/4 albuns. And do not despise american metal, you still have some of the greatest metal bands.

4 out of 5 stars A Plesant Surprise.......2007-04-25

When I first heard about the new album, I was skeptical of the sound. Half of the band is new and the sound is completely different from their other albums. With the departure of Brandon Thomas as lead vocals, I was constantly being assured that the new lead singer, Mark, was going to fit right in and that I would love the new sound. I first had "Closer" played for me in February and I was actually convinced by this song, but still unsure about others. The intro pulled me right in. I was hooked. Unfortunately, I had to wait for another month and a half before I could hear anything else from the album. After a very patient wait, I got the album and listened to it straight through. I must admit, it's the first album I could listen to without skipping over any tracks. This is what Bleed the Dream should sound like. It's a very catchy album with songs like "Beaten and Blindfolded" and "Closer." The edge, however, comes from the subject matter of the lyrics--dealing with murder ("Killer Inside") and overcoming drug addiction ("Stay the Hell Away From Me"). Give it a listen, and decide for yourself. But, I do think that this is the best thing they've done to date.

5 out of 5 stars Bleed on Fie.......2005-09-16

Young Bleed done always dropped verses different from erebody on da tank. This hands down gotta be his best cd. He proved that No Limit wasnt the only reason he was sellin, like a lot of the artist who fell off after they left. Buy this album!

4 out of 5 stars Young Bleed Is Hot!.......2004-05-09

Alright people I'm going to tell it like it is...like I always do. Young Bleed along with C-Murder who is now in jail, Master P, Silkk, Mac, and Soulja Slim were the tightest in No Limit. Soulja Slim is now deceased, C-Murder in jail and Young Bleed is not with No Limit which believe me is a good thing now. I will admit, this is Young Bleeds SECOND best album behind My Ballz And My Word. I don't know how one could even argue that but nonetheless this is a good cd.

4 out of 5 stars saved.......2002-03-06

Young Bleed left No limit just in time. if this one had been released on NL i would have left it on the shelf. he wouldve been another wasted talent. But he really established his credibility as a rapper on this one, hes just kinda taking his time on album #3. tracks with Too Short, daz, and others mean that he has a real future, hes not too tied to the whole no limit thing to grow.

4 out of 5 stars HOW YA DO DAT.......2002-02-20

This cd is truly tight. My Own is a good mix of that dirty dirty and Midwest Muddy, as only Young Bleed can bring it. He is truly one of the tightest and most slept on southern mc's around. The album is put together well, so it flows from one track to the next. You gotta check the track featuring Daz. When a song involves a Curtis Mayfield loop, it's destined for some great ish! Ya heard me! HOLLA

4 out of 5 stars How does he do that there?.......2001-07-12

This is a great CD. Happy Perez has got to be one of the best producers from down south.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing, limp bizkit's got nothing on reveille.......2005-03-18

First off this cd is awesome, Anyone who compares Reveille to limp bizkit must not be hardcore into music, fred durst wishes he could pump out the vocals and have the heart Drew Simollardes has. They sound nothing a like. This band is amazing, such a positive influence to rap metal. And there not mainstream which is one more thing to love, Limp Bizkit is washed up and can't compare to this band, they sound nothing alike!! I totally recomend this.

3 out of 5 stars different but okay.......2002-08-29

it seems like a huge Limp Bizkit rip off and we all know there are too many of those. But these guys seem to put a lot of heart into it. I was a little weary of purchasing this album but after awhile I decided to just go ahead and do it. I don't regret it but some of you out there are pretty picky about your music, so watch your step.

5 out of 5 stars Yeah........2002-08-06

Reveille rules! The lead singer can rap really fast for example the hit single "What U Got." And if you listen to the last song on the album (it's like 14 minutes long)there's a hidden track that rules. It has the guys from Nullset (another cool band) and 7th Rail Crew. Buy the cd or face the consequences (my wrath).
peace out pizzeeps, hizzomeys, and tizzight pizzeople.

5 out of 5 stars Reveille Rocks!.......2002-03-24

I was turned on to this group by a DJ in San Francisco who plays alternative music late at night. I initially purchased the CD for the song "Look At Me Know," which is a great "Nu-Metal" song. However, the entire CD is extremely strong. If you like System of A Down, Linkin Park, Quarashi (which I strongly suggest you buy too!) then you will like this CD. All songs rock, and there is not a dud in the bunch. I hope this band gets more exposure because they are great!

3 out of 5 stars Revielle.......2002-02-15

hello Music Fans. Well every once and awhile a band comes along that when you firsy hear them they make your head spin. Ok so revielle may just be one of those bands. I am sure this cd will be in the "related" section with alot of other rap rock and nu metal stuff. Although their style is a little different yes you may file them under just another korn or limp bizkit rip off, But here is the kicker=============IF you a skpetic buy "laced" their first disk, Then I dare you to compare these Harvard Ma boys to anything you have heard before. yes this is a review for "blled the sky" but I urge you to buy "laced". Then go ahead and buy this album. Drew sure knows how to get peoples blood rushing and The first single off This record "What you got" will leave you feeling good knowing that "whatyou got" is a really good cd
