5 out of 5 stars In the...jingle...jangle...morning...I'll come follow ya........2007-05-21

Wow. wow. I'm not at all a "trekkie", never liked the shows, but always appreciated shatner for what he...does for pop culture. I'm 18 so missed the age of lusting after him, but get that he's...there. I got this on itunes on a whim. So Good. So Good. It is by far the most hypnotizing album I have ever heard. To hear young Shatner "sing" (his album 'has been' prepared me somewhat) and to hear Nimoy sing...I think I just might be high from simply hearing such tones. lol, buy it if you like bizarre. buy it if you like Nimoy or Shatner. buy it if you can't afford pot.

4 out of 5 stars so sad so sad.......2007-04-10

Ok I bought this knowing full well it would be bad...bad...bad. But that's what happens when actors try to be musicians. I love both Shatner and Nimoy and if you are a Trekkie/Trekker...you need this. But if you are just a music lover, you don't.

If you are into comedy though...it is pretty funny

4 out of 5 stars Scariest album I ever bought.......2007-03-08

Let me be clear from the outset: get this album only if you are the kind of person who enjoys the bizarre. It is incredibly strange to hear Leonard Nimoy sing - actually sing in a deep, almost baritone voice - about the hobbit Bilbo Baggins. His rendition of Peter Paul and Mary's Hammer Song (If I Had a Hammer) is hysterical. And Shatner, oh, Bill, what were you thinking? This album takes campy to new heights.

5 out of 5 stars Weird But Good.......2007-01-17

If you are looking for that weird cd, and one that will cause you to shake your head, this is the one for you. First, let us just say, that although Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner give it their best effort, it is not classical singing that you will be listening to. But, it is just good enough (or bad enough-depending on your tastes), that if you are a fan of either of these two actors, you will enjoy it.

4 out of 5 stars to go where no man has gone before.......2007-01-16

i would have given this cd 5 stars but there was just somthing missing. it mighte be mr. scotty doing a bagpipe solo, or mr soolo playing the skin flute, or bones haveing a drum solo in the middle. i'm just not sure i konw its missing somthing, and that something is missing from your colletion.

        4 out of 5 stars Don't Break the Circle!.......2006-02-28

It's good to see the Demon albums getting the remaster treatment. The certainly deserve it. Demon was always one of the more underrated NWOBHM bands - come to think of it, aside from Maiden, Priest and a few others, they were all underrated.

The Unexpected Guest, released in 1982, is Demon's second album, and a real classic. It alternates between being straight-ahead heavy metal and melodic hard rock, sounding like equal parts Saxon and Uriah Heep. The combination works quite well. Songs like Don't Break the Circle and Deliver Us from Evil are powerful metal anthems, but the rest of the album, while not necessarily radio-friendly, was melodic enough that it should have appealed to a wider audience.

Dead Ringer's 2003 reissue of the Unexpected Guest provides a much needed upgrade. The remastered sound breathes new life into the album, though the bonus tracks - 4 alternate versions of songs on the album - don't add much. The liner notes could have been better too. The lyrics are printed inside, along with a very brief note from Dave Hill. Some additional artwork, photos, or commentary (see Castle's excellent Uriah Heep reissues) would have been a nice touch.

If you're a metal fan, particularly a classic metal fan, and haven't heard Demon, I highly recommend checking them out, and the Unexpected Guest is a great album to start with. If you're already familiar with the band and are wondering whether to pick up the reissues, I'd recommend doing so since these remasters sound terrific.

        Album Description

SLOW GIN is the group's third creation and is the result of two years intensive work. After Spaced Out (2000) and Eponymus II (2001), this new CD is guaranteed to please those who enjoyed Spaced Out's previous albums, and is set to appeal to many more.

Antoine's main goal is to bring quality music on a different level compared to that of previous albums, whilst keeping the sound that the band has already created so far. The musical experimentation and the research for authenticity is also part of the project. The music on SLOW GIN is features more room for bass solos all executed from the capable hands of Antoine Fafard.

        5 out of 5 stars Spaced In.......2006-05-25

Wow. Another amazing album in the instrumental METAL realm. This album is right there with Alarum, Canvas Solaris, Gordian Knot, etc...Very diverse drum patterns, amazing bass work that would make Jaco, Sean, Victor, and Cliff very happy, tech-jazz-metal guitar, with a touch of keyboard/guitar synth made for insane minds!!! The bass work on this album is great!

I like this album a bit more than some free-form-jazz-tech-death-insane-metal, such as Behold...The Arctopus, because it isn't as jagged. I do love Behold, though. On the opposite side of the spectrum, this album isn't as bland as some other older tech metal bands, but I won't name any names. What I mean by that is that this music isn't full speed and near constant time changes. This album isn't bland at all, but it does take the funk to a slow dance speed sometimes. You like some funk every now and then, admit it!

This album reminds me of an album called Pilgrimage by a band named VUVR. REAL metal-formed music rules, regardless of the specific type, because of the thought put into it, the originality, the creativeness, and the untouchable badassness, and this album is testament to that. Let the metal flow!!!

nice CD, groovy sounds, but short in length and the recording is not so good. But the songs are catchy and tuneful.

4 out of 5 stars Excelent Album but BUYER BEWARE!!!!.......2003-09-18

As far as the record it self goes, this is a classic "now sound" release. Fat Moog synth, wordless vocals, the whole nine yards. I'm not sure what the other reviewer is talking about these being different recordings. Spaced Out is my favorite among the 30 or so Enoch Light records I own and this is the exact same album as my vintage Project 3 LP.

However, here's the problem, this CD was clearly mastered from an LP. While the transfer isn't terrible, you do hear typical record noise which is really dissapointing. Add in the "low budget" packaging and lack of licensing information, I have to question the legality of this one.

Still, you can't beat the price and if you don't want to take the time to burn your LP to a CD (or if you can't find a copy of the LP) this will do. Not an unpleasant listening expirence, but this album deserves better.

4 out of 5 stars Blast from the Past!.......2000-10-01

I've been an Enoch Light fan since the early 60's. All those movie themes! It was fun listening to instruments coming from the left, then the right. When I saw that "Spaced Out" was on CD I got it right away. I still have the LP (why no liner notes on the CD?). The quality is just as good as I remember. My favorites: "Knowing When to Leave" (Bacharach), "My Silent Song" (Bach), and "Eleanor Rigby" (Beatles). The CD isn't very long (twelve 3-minute songs), but worth a listen. The price is great. Treat yourself to some first-class nostalgia!

        5 out of 5 stars Super cool!.......2000-03-20

I have hundreds of records from this time period and this one is in my top 10! Just what you need, classic tunes done with totally flipped-out arrangements that ping-pong back and forth across your speakers (look, it's stereo!). This CD has a cover that's as good as the famous Whipped Cream and Other Delights cover art, with way better music. I recommend you buy it now.

        3 out of 5 stars Late-60's Pop Romp.......2000-02-08

Enoch Light has a well-deserved reputation as both an accomplished musician AND a pioneering technical recording engineer. That said, SPACED OUT is a pleasant-if-not-outstanding album from around 1970 (judging by the songs). The material is great: "Bond Street", "Lovers' Concerto", "Walk On By", "A Little Fugue For You And Me" and no less than 4 Beatles tunes: "Eleanor Rigby", "Norwegian Wood", "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" and "Get Back". No complaints, but of all the Enoch Light albums I've heard this was the one that impressed me the LEAST. Sound quality on the CD is excellent. I noticed 2 of the Beatles' songs had also appeared on Light's BEATLES CLASSICS album, but-- SURPRISE! These aren't the same recordings. (Actually I liked the other versions better.) Faint praise, but there you go. I DO highly recommend Light's BIG BAND material, as well as PERSUASIVE PERCUSSION (stunning! ) and BEATLES CLASSICS (if you can find it).

            3 out of 5 stars I'm glad they're back, but..........2007-04-21

Released in 2001, Spaced Out Monkey was the first release from the classic NWOBHM band Demon in nearly a decade. I think Demon has always been one of the most unfortunately overlooked bands to emerge from that influential scene, and during the course of their evolution from occult-inspired heavy metal band to Uriah Heep meets Magnum prog/pomp rockers, the band has released some truly exceptional albums.

Unfortunately, Spaced Out Monkey does not quite live up to the standard set by those earlier albums. Some of the key elements of Demon's sound are present; most of the songs are melodic, and Dave Hill's voice is as powerful as ever. There's just something "off" about these songs. I wish I could explain it better than that. There is an abrasive quality present that keeps me from fully enjoying the album. Spaced Out Monkey reminds me a lot of one of Y&T's Musically Incorrect, in that by trying to go for a somewhat modern sound, the band sacrificed a bit of what made them great in the first place.

This isn't a bad album per se, but it's not what I've come to expect from Demon. Some of the songs are quite good (Dreamtime, Cry From the Street, and Let Me Out of Here for example), some less so, and one song, the title track, is just plain awful. Who told Hill that older white rockers should try and rap anyway? If they had dropped that stinker and made a few tweaks to the rest of the album, this could have been a triumphant return. As is, it's a decent but ultimately forgettable album by a band capable of so much more.

I'm definitely glad Demon is back and releasing new material, but I also hope they shake off the dust and get back to releasing better albums.
