Volume 2 of the Time/Brent/Shad labels story.......2003-03-23

Here, Ace Records of the U.K. continues its mining of the vaults of the Time/Brent/Shad label family whose artists included Skip and Flip, the Genies, the Bell Notes and others from the late 50's and early 60's. This volume delves deeper into the obscure, containing b-sides, failed singles and previously unreleased recordings with one top-100 charting song, Skip and Flip's minor hit "Fancy Nancy". Though this is a collection of mostly obscure independent label tunes from 40-plus years ago, the sound quality is amazingly good with a few tracks (3,9,10,12) in crystalline stereo. As is to be expected, Ace has done an exceptional job here production-wise with the surprising sound quality and an informative, illustrated liner notes booklet. While its appeal is definitely aimed at the completist collector, prospective purchasers can feel confident in that Ace has done a superb job in compiling these rare small-label tunes.
