Music is such a wonderful thing! We have taken the idea some caveman came up with when he started to pound on rocks in a rhythmic pattern, (or was it his woman's head?!?) and we have taken it to unbelievable heights. Music has developed into the single most important form of entertainment and therapy in our existing lives. But something has gone wrong in the past 19 years....cretivity has taken a back seat. The few artists who have struggled with the mainstream to deliver creative music have been systematically drowned in the "business" that the music industry has created. Business is bad news when it mixes with creativity. It creates an illusion that creativity exists when it actually does not.
Bands who claim their niche in the Top 40 claim to be bringing you something fresh, something new, something never heard of before. Business takes this mediocre "thing" and dresses it up in a pretty light of creativity. The problem is we fall for it! We buy and listen and buy and listen until the entire industry deteriorates to practically nothing.
BUT ENOUGH OF HISTORY. Remote Control Egypt is the result of 18 years of blood, sweat and tears. The group comprises of three members, Georges Hilaire, Pierre Hilaire and his wife Patricia Hilaire recently died in a tragic automobile accident. This CD is dedicated to her memory. RCE attempts to bring back or merely remind us all that IT'S OK TO BE CREATIVE. The Music Industry was built originally on the "song." Songs that are now deemed classics. The hooks are infectious, and the melodies unforgettable. "Top 40 radio would have a field day with this CD," says Bekki Shenklin-Spicer, Editor of Southwest Florida's Fort Myers Magazine. "The songs take you on a ride that only leaves you wanting more. From the infectious opener 'Ride' to the ballsy 'What you're doing' to the sentimental 'Patti,' you are left wondering why this stuff isn't on every other CD."
Georges Hilaire is an accomplished drummer who leaves you breathless in his skill. Pierre Hilaire's vocals are rich and textured and remind you of Hall and Oates' Darryl hall and Michael Jackson. Patricia Hilaire's vocals are warm and yet raw. Her background vocals are amazing. All other instruments are played by Pierre. The songs are well-arranged which brings to mind one of the downfalls of the Music Industry. "The industry was built on the 'song'," says Pierre. When I listen to a song on the radio or on a CD I want to know that a lot of work was put into the production. I want to hear that the heart and soul of the songwriter is totally ingrained in the song." The songs are indeed well-arranged. they take you through a story and leave you thinking about it.
Remote Control Egypt is a strange name. If you ask Georges or Pierre what it stands for, they just smile and move on to another topic. When you ask again, Georges may entertain a thought like "Oh, there's a lot of history behind that name, all of which will eventually unfold as we move along. More CD's will be released and the picture will get clearer. Meanwhile, we're sure listeners will get something personal out of it that connects to them. The rest will be pretty interesting speculation." RCE has evolved for 18 years. Pierre and Georges started together as Rapid Fire back in 1979 with their brother Roland and Childhood friend Nigel Villaurel. They were mere kids. After refining their sound in the studio as well as on the road, Georges left the band to pursue other endeavors. The band recruited Darron Shell then brother Frantz Hilaire on drums and changed their name to Villaire. Villaire had great success and recorded "Shadows" for Reel One Records. The single played as far as Venezuela and was received positively. Pierre remained the driving force behind the act; however, could never do what he wanted to do the way he wanted to do it. "It was always 80% and never 100%. Producers and managers saw the potential, but never allowed it to be what it should have been."
