NPR gives "moments" period.......2005-07-20

I cannot write enough to praise the radio essays that have been broadcast regularly on NPR. I've been a fan for the past four or five years. So, I not only have "driveway" moments, but "parking lot" moments, "at home after work" moments; you name it. If NPR is on my radio, I literally find I cannot leave my car.

My only regret was the CD didn't contain the complete broadcast of the amusing "Santaland Diaries."

NPR has the best programming.......2005-01-24

There is no other radio station that has better programming than NPR. The creativity, humour and complexity of their stories gives them a head up on all other media outlets. This CD is poignant, funny and interesting. The stories really do hold you in the car and in your driveway. There were times where we had to pullover because the story was so funny. In other situations there was not a dry eye in the car. I highly reccomend this CD. Although, "Driveway Moments 2" 2005 is not nearly as good. In fact I was completley dissapointed in the sequal.

This CD is a wonderfully eclectic collection of some of the best stories of NPR. A "driveway moment" is when there is something so compelling on the radio that you sit in your driveway, listening, rather than leave the car.

That's exactly what happened to me when I heard "My So-Called Lungs." It's indescribably touching, and I was left with tears streaming down my face, in awe of how the young girl making this audio diary could be so brave.

The stories span an almost unbelievable arc of emotion, from the drama of the story I just mentioned, to David Sedaris's Santaland Diaries, which is so hilarious that it's commonly played every Christmas on NPR stations across the country.

This is a suberb CD. Listen to it on a long road trip, and I guarantee the miles will just fly by, you'll be so absorbed in these stories. I have just ordered Driveway Moments 2--if it's half as good as this one, it'll be well worth it.

Lloyd was one amazing band. Miss them? I do. Some of the members of Lloyd have gone on to form a band called VAPOR. Check them out at www.vaporband.com you won't be dissapointed and I hope this helps anyone looking for any info on these guys because they are the best.

Thoughts From a Lloyd Fan.......2001-06-22

With their 1998 release, Lloyd ventured into territories not often explored by Christian bands. Much of Christian music borders on both the contemporary and hard rock sides of a good modern rock sound. But Lloyd jumped right into the middle of it and supplied Christian rock fans with what the scene needed.

The lyrics on the album are much like the music. Nothing is too fancy and everything is straight up on the level. "Listening for Whispers" is the strongest song on the CD musically while "Mr. Warner" delivers an "in your face" message to a secular band that will remain nameless.

In the end, frontman Daryl Younglood (formerly of "Imagine This") and his band deliver a fresh sound without attempting to be overly inventive. This is a must CD for any Christian rock fan or for any music fan looking for a rock CD with a refreshing message.

Thoughts From a Reviewer.......2001-06-06

In 1998, Lloyd entered the Cristian rock scene with its freshman album "Thoughts From a Driveway". Instantly many of the songs, such as "Don't Wanna Know" and "Listening For Wispers" became a regular on Christian radio waves accross the United States. The Album contains strong lyrics and Post Garage rock to back it up, it has become a winning album. Their sound has been compared to Vertical Horizons, Everclear, and Matchbox 20. People who enjoy a healthy taste of rock will enjoy this album. I personally enjoy all of the songs, however two stand out. "Mr.Warner" which is a song to Marlyin Manson, and "Human" which expains how some things were not for us to understand. Their lyrics are far from corny and I think that anyone, Christian or not, will enjoy "Thought From a Driveway" for it gives fuel to the soul with a rock sound to help it go down.

Touched my sole.......2000-04-20

A friend let me borrow there Lloyd CD and I became hooked,I had to buy it. The Forever song especially touched me. I just wish that more people knew about them espically young christions. It would be a great CD to let there unsaved friends borrow since it has good christion learics to kind of alternitave music.

I got to see them in concert last week and i must admit they put on a great show and their music brought people from all around the university christian or not. This was a great way to break in the new school year

The Superchunk single to buy if you've only got the albums.......1999-01-28

Superchunk have released a number of acoustic versions of their songs, and every one is a gem. The reason being that, rather than simply perform the songs exactly the same as originally recorded but unplugged, they play around a little with tempos, arrangements,and percussion. This ep gives you three examples of their technique. I wouldn't necessarily buy this as an intro to Superchunk, since it doesn't really give you an accurate picture of their sound (I would recommend "Here's Where the Strings Come In" for that purpose or perhaps "The Laughter Guns" if you are dead set on only spending enough for an ep). However, for someone familiar with the band and the songs on this disc, it's a must have. I would have given it 5 stars, except for the fact that I'm fairly indifferent to "Driveway to Driveway" as a song.

Along the same lines, check out the "Hyper Enough" single for the classic title track and an amazing mellow acoustic version of "Detroit Has a Skyline". The third track, "Never Too Young to Smoke" - an outtake - isn't bad either.
