Awsome.......2007-05-16
I've been following Bayside's music for a couple of years now and have most of their albums. I think that this one is the best by far. The entire album is awsome. You can tell by the meaningful lyrics and intricate guitar work that the band put a lot of thought and hard work into the album. A must have for anyone who even remotely likes Bayside.
Great CD.......2007-04-10
I think this is one of the best C.D.'s I have bought in a while. I liked Sirens and Condolences a bit so I preordered this albulm. When I got it was immediately hooked. It's much better than Sirens and Condolences. There are many knock out songs such as The Walking Wounded, I And I, Head On A Plate, Duality, and of course the amazing Landing Feet First. This is an albulm I can play on my ipod and let it go all the way through. It's a full albulm of catchy songs, good melodies, and pretty decent lyrics.
Great New CD (review from a Non-Bayside Fan).......2007-03-20
OK, since this is the first time I've heard them, this review definitely would apply to the non-Bayside seasoned fan, if that makes sense.
This CD is great. It's kind of like a mix between My Chemical Romance and Panic at the Disco... only a bit softer. I am a fan of FOB, The Summer Obsession and others including pioneers Jimmy Eat World.
If you like all those I just mentioned, then this CD will find favor in your CD rotation.
As to the claims that Bayside has gone soft; that is very possible, but like I said, this is my first CD and after stumbling onto them I am extremely happy that I can write a run-on sentence about how I love this CD.
This CD is now in the CD-player ready for Spring to kick in.
My Friend........2007-03-07
This is a wonderful album. I think most people who reviewed this album spent more time listening to the self titled record. I think this album is a pleasent departure from the sound that self titled bayside brought to us. It is not entirely different. But yes in lyrical content it is a LOT less depressed. But i think this is not a tottaly new thing for the band at all. Sirens and Condolences had its fair share of positive punches and pop driven chorus and melody. As a true believer of bayside i would reccomend this album to anyone. Bayside is a band that makes me still have faith in music. Good honest meaningful music. I know this band is often clasiffied as an Emo but i think it is an understatement. This band has a unique sound that is their own. I would compare their sound to the smoking popes, or the smiths.
Maybe five stars was a little generous.......2007-02-20
Is it just me or has Bayside gotten soft? I don't just mean musically (after all, who doesn't love their acoustic ep?) but lyrically as well. Don't get me wrong, this is a great album...but I miss the bayside that hated love and used morbid metaphors to describe pain and loneliness. The lyrics are actually a bit corky at times anyway...as if they really wanted to say something mean but chose to be polite instead. It just doesn't flow as their previous songs have...which means that I will most likely get tired of half of the songs as they seem to follow the same path that many other bands in the genre have...by writing catchy songs with little substance...which means I most likely won't be listening to this album three months from now...at least not in it's entirety.
To be fair however, I think the writing has matured a bit and the message has grown a little more optimistic. A year and a half ago when they released their self titled LP, they painted a picture of a band frustrated but hopeful with a firm resolve to not only stay in the game, but to not allow circumstances to control them. With this CD we see the same resolve, and yet not nearly as frustrated...Perhaps after adjusting to their bandmates death last year, they have decided to focus on more important, worthwhile things...while at times even shifting their focus to matters of faith with honest integrity.
One of my favorite songs on the album is "Dear Holiness" in which they do just that...determining to stay strong even if they feel alone. Perhaps this is when the writing gets the best, when they approach it with so much honesty, that even the "holiest" of people could actually relate to it even when the message leaves off at doubting God and putting faith in oneself.
I admit the band seems a little too comfortable with their own originality and doesn't earn any credit by taking credit for "bringing music back to music", but they still delivered a solid album that is still worth a spot in any collection.

holycrapthisalbumsawesome.......2007-06-01
The album is probably the most unique I have ever heard. I'm a person that puts the tone of the lyrics above all else. The band syncronizes so well to set the mood for what the lead singer is trying to express, almost like you can already understand what the song is about just by the melody of the songs.
Great album from start to finish.......2006-08-14
First off, there are no bad songs on this CD. This band deserves all the hype that surrounds them. Its really too bad that a lot of their fame has come from the tragic death of their drummer because they really deserve to be famous for their music. Overall, the songs have great lyrics and some pretty good guitar work also. I hope they find a new drummer who is as good as the one on this album. John Beatz was a rarity among drummers in that he didn't really on double bass and actually knew when to play a rythem and not try to show off. But when he does break out of the rythem its fantastic and shows just how awesome of a drummer he was. The singer has a very unique voice and writes very personal lyrics that are fairly "emo" but you have to respect him for being so honest. He doesn't always hit the right notes as demonstrated in "Don't Call Me Peanut" but sometimes thats really not that important. Favorites are:
Devotion and Desire
Tortures of the Damned
Montauk
Blame It On Bad Luck
Existing In Crisis (Evelyn)
Don't Call Me Peanut
Dear Tragedy
Incredible.......2006-08-13
Let me just tell you that as a stubborn fan of the second great punk movement (NOFX, Bad Religion etc.) it's extremely difficult to get me into any of today's popular "punk", "Emo" "Emocore" etc. bands. Thursday and Taking Back Sunday type bands just don't do it for me. However, my friends feel differently so I'm often forced to listen to it. So one day my buddy put on Bayside. I was immediately hooked. The band is awesome, and this album is truly amazing from start to finish. There is no screaming on this album, just melodic singing that can easily be enjoyed by all. Throw in some sick guitar work and you've got yourself a classic album for the genre. Favorite songs: "Devotion and Desire", "Montauk", "Existing in Crisis" and "Half a Life". Truthfully, there are no bad songs.
Fabulous.......2006-07-06
Bayside is such an easy band to get into. The songs are extremely awesome and have some really great lyrics. I listen to this album every day (and I've had it for months) and I am still not even close to being sick of it. The only possible qualms I have at all with the band is the lead singer's voice. He sounds a bit like an adolescent kid with a lisp. I think his voice makes them even more original, but it could possibly turn a few listeners off. ****Tortures of the Damned**** is THE BEST SONG IN THE WORLD!!!
They're just waiting for the opportunity..........2006-06-02
Let's cut straight to the point: the only thing holding this band back is, ironically enough, that which is putting them on the shelves - Victory Records. With tracks like "Devotion and Desire," "Montauk," and "Existing in a Crisis (Evelyn)," Bayside is able to show its instrumental talent and consistency. Speaking of consistency, this CD is all about that, actually. After giving it some time and a few plays through, I've found that there isn't really much of a weak point to this album, and yet there are so many strong points. Sure, the lyrics can be overly emo at times, but you have to applaud the lead singer for leaving it all out there. Really catchy and effective. In addition, I just can't say enough about the guitar-work. So inventive, so clean...All I can say is, you won't believe me until you give this album a few spins, so what are you waiting for?
I'd recommend it to anyone who's into Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, that sort of music. There are too many stand-outs to mention, but if you want a good starter, look no further than the single, "Devotion and Desire."

An excellent complement to a great band........2006-06-02
When I first heard Bayside on their self-titled album, I was skeptical at best that they could pull off an acoustic album. Even worse yet, I'm not a fan of most acoustic stuff usually anyway. But after getting so throughly hooked on this band's sound, via said CD, I had to give them a shot, out of curiosity and the lust for still more, and I can't say I've been let down in the slightest. This album features excellent translations of some of Bayside's best songs, plus a few extras written for this album. "Winter," "Blame It On Bad Luck," "Devotion and Desire," and in particular, "Megan" and "They Looked Like Strong Hands," all stand out mightily. As far as weak points go, the album cost me $15 for...10 tracks. "Baby Britain" is far and away the worst track I've heard by them yet, and well...I just wish they would have included more, though the DVD is a fantastic accompaniment. Buy it if you're into their sound, you won't be disappointed. I wasn't.
Bayside solidifies their spot among rock's elite.......2006-03-13
The acoustic album itself has been done to death recently. But please don't overlook this album/DVD.
Their electric songs translate beautifully into acoustic, highlighting the raw emotion of the music that just draws you in and doesn't let you go.
The song "Winter", written for fallen drummer John Beatz is a touching tribute to friendship, which as you'll see on the DVD means the world to these guys.
Well worth the price, having a great studio album and a breathtaking live performance at the House Of Blues Chicago on the DVD.
Buy this album if you're a fan of emotional rock, you will not be disappointed. These guys are great. :)
Amazing!.......2006-03-06
I had the privilege of seeing Bayside perform with Hawthorne Heights, Silverstein and Aiden back in November. Sadly...this performance was shortly after their drummer John "Beatz" was tragically killed in an accident. Anthony and Jack put on one hellacious performance that was the highlight of the night. Their emotional performance just weeks after the death of their friend brought tears to many of the fans in the audience, including Jack and Anthony, and this CD captures that emotion. I would highly recommend this CD to all Bayside fans or Acoustic Rock fans in general. It is an amazing CD from an amazing band. R.I.P. John Beatz. Bayside is a Cult!

BAYSIDE GOES ACOUSTIC, AND IT WORKS........2006-03-02
I've always been a sucker for a good acoustic set. So I decided to give this new release a shot, since I have been enjoying Bayside's work so far. Suprisingly enough, these Bayside songs do transfer well into acoustic format.
"They Looked Like Strong Hands" would have to be the highlight of the album. The song's stripped down performance brings a new demention of feeling to it.
Recommended to fans of Bayside, and those who appreciate the "unplugged" style.

Pretty good overall but softer than I expected.......2006-06-26
First of all I'll clear up the confusion about the resemblance of this band with Alkaline Trio, the guy's voice sounds very similar but the music is nothing like it. This album starts off very strongly with the hit "Masterpiece" which bears its name in honour because it really is a masterpiece. The album is not very challenging musically however, this band makes an effort to try to sound more interesting than the other bands like them because this band includes quite a lot of guitar solos, and even though they may not be metal 200 kmh tapping, they blend in very nicely with the songs and give Bayside some originality, basically, this band can play their instruments well and have nice ideas but none of them are real geniuses with their instruments. Most of this album is quite soft, and I expected it to have a heavier and more punk edge, but in reality it is very emo, and they do have some similarities with Alkaline Trio. Basically if you like Alkaline Trio, or if you are looking for a less punk version of Lost City Angels this album should be a good buy for you.
AMAZING.......2006-03-25
THIS IS SUCH A GREAT CD BUY IT
LISTEN TWICE AND U ARE HOOKED I PROMISE OR I'LL GIVE YOUR MONEY BACK THATS HOW SURE I AM OF THIS N=BAND AND THERE SOUND
~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not to shabby.......2006-01-03
I bought this CD after hearing "Masterpiece" on the Victory sampler, just like the rest of the world. All though the band doesn't seem to bring much to the table, I find myself listening to this CD all the time. While "Masterpiece" is a great song, tracks 6, 7, and 9, I think are the best on the album. Also there is no screaming like the rest of the Victory bands, so its smoother listening for the more melodic fans. It also is a more rock sound, not a whiney emo sound like the rest of the bands out there. A definite buy, unlike Hawthorne from the sampler.
Yes they do sound just like alkaline trio!.......2005-12-29
Im gonna have to agree with the reviewer who compared Bayside to alkaline trio... and disagree with the one who said they didnt. and if you want to hear something that sounds just like alkaline trio you might as well buy alkaline trio.
not a big fan of em but fav track on here is kellum
excellent excellent.......2005-11-21
i really really enjoy this album. As far as favorite tracks, most people list my favorites, but I would have to add track 9, "If You're Bored" as a favorite. I suppose being later in the CD makes it less noticable. Really, all the tracks on this album are good.

King Of Ill Lines!!! (Rating: 10 out of 10- -5 stars).......2007-01-25
When it comes to punchlines, Chino XL probably has enough to fill a warehouse. Listening to Chino's album "I Told You So", he spits with a vingance and holds nothing back when rhyming. He sort of reminds me of an in-your-face Lord Finesse type lyricist. His lyrics are garunteed to grab any listener's attention. If you ever sit down and and listen to his words, you'll be amazed on how talented he was -"I leave n****z confused like homeless dudes on house arrest"- that took a second to get to me, but I laughed when I understood what he was saying.
Even the skits are funny in sort of a way. There is one where he talks trash to his audience while on stage, and there is one where some girl calls in about a date with Chino. You have to hear them, becasue they are funny.
I really can't think of anything that is bad about this album. There are a few skippable tracks that I find at the beginning of the CD like "What You Got". Other than that, I find this album near flawless. I find Chino's flow to be excellent. Don't believe some idiot who say he rhymes off beat, because I can assure you that he doesn't. I don't know about the situations with his record company, but their issues really kept his hands tied for a while with this album, but I guess they allowed this album to be redistributed. I got my copy for less than 10 bucks, and I see some being sold for around that price. I believe the most you should pay is $20 for this here.
Side Note: I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but the linear notes and the back cover has the tracks incorrectly listed. Amazon has the correct track order and if you put it into your computer, the correct track order will show.

(4+half) Crowning moment for the lyrical messiah........2006-08-25
Considering i have all 3 of Chino's albums i'd say that this is definitely his most consistent. On the production side of things NICK-WIZ performs the perfect soundbombs for Chino to reek havoc on. Lyrically Chino is at his pinnacle dropping some of the sharpest, funniest, wittiest punchlines of his career. The beats could be described as soul shuddering or bone crunching at best and Chino's rhymes are jaw dropping at the very least. Its so rare to get an album where nearly all the joints are top drawer quality. The only bad points about the album was that there was too many skits, which i hate on hiphop albums, and the 2 tracks "Sorry" and "Chianardo Di Caprio" which were somewhat weak in comparison to the others. The remainding songs were just hiphop bliss. Standouts were "What You Got", "Last Laugh" (the best verses B-Real has EVER spit!!), "Chino XL", "You Don't Want It", "Beef", "Don't Say A Word", "I Told You So" and "It's My World". If you love sharp lyricists then you really cant do without this in your collection. COP IT!!!
another classic.......2006-06-08
Dude's first cd was amazing as is his second.
Nunca was perhaps the best on here. I'm sorry but to the idiotic Big L fan to say chino doesn't end on beat is a lie.
Dude is always on beat even if the flow isn't a rhythim you like.
And unlike Big L chino has punches metas and word play that happen to be on topic. thats because chino is an actual song writer and big L was just a lame battle mc who couldn't do a real album worth buying.
Eminem aint on the same level as chino, chino's world stretches beyond himself and his punches aren't borderline retarded.
Get It Right!!!!!.......2006-05-09
Chino is NOT a West Coast MC. He was born in The Bronx and grew up in New Jersey. After he got a deal then he moved to Cali. get it right everybody, the West has never been about lyrics to me, it is about feelings and making people feel pain and identify with their struggle, Chino doesnt do that, he makes fun of people!!!!!!!!! This album is great though. His punchlines are the best today and he doesnt hold any diss back.
LISTEN' TO HIS FIRST ALBUM THEN YOU'LL BE A BELIEVER!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-09-15
AN WORD-SMITH TO SAY THE LEAST.ONE OF THE WEST COAST TRUE ORINGINAL B-BOYS TO DISPLAY HIS TALENTS ON MIC DEVICES AND SHINES LIKE SUNNY L.A.TRUE DATT!!!!!!!

Funky Icelandic alternative at its best.......2002-05-28
Do you like Garbage, Veruca Salt, and Björk? How about them all put together? Say hello to Unun, a band formed by Björk's ex-husband Thor Eldon. Super Shiny Dreams is a English version of the band's 1994 album Ae, which was voted Album of the year in Iceland. The music varies greatly- the tracks "Unun", "I See Red", and "SOS Aurora" are all punkish, while the rest of the tracks are all different. Fans of the Cardigans will like "Premiere", while those who like Garbage will like the quickness of "Ve La Gonssezze!". Another plus is that Heida Eiriksdottir, the lead singer, is like Bjork, but a little less crazy and not so accented. 'Cubes fans will appreciate the seldom screaming of Dr. Gunni, as compared to the crazy ranting of Einar Orn. Go out and buy this- it's worth it.

The Best From Frisco.......2002-06-26
Well let me start off by saying that I used to listen to east coast rap and never knew my hometown had it's talented rappers. Its been only 2 years I found out about San Francisco rappers. Well this CD is the best. So I'm out with the east and into the west rap.THIS ALBUM SHOULD BE A MUST IN YOUR STEREO
