It's flatly unfair that the Gossip aren't a massive success, a rocknroll giant slayer, especially as they unleash another 10-song, 30-minute zinger like Standing in the Way of Control. Singer Beth Ditto's boundless, whether shouting out the title song's chorus or feather-dusting the lyric on Meg White-sounding album closer, "Dark Lines." The band rocks with an unerring simplicity, a leanness that writhes. The big-beat, hop-along (and sing-along) "Listen Up," is the centerpiece here, a stripped focus on the Gossip's core conviction, that rhythm can rock like little else. The tune has Ditto holding court over a bluntly simple one-two beat, cautioning a crowd that by rights ought to be tenfold larger: "now gather round/now listen up," warning them that "some people talk way too much." As Ditto stuns, drummer Hannah Blilie's beat pounds, and Brace Paine's guitar lays down a simple law. Ignorance of that law is no excuse. --Andrew BartlettAlbum Description
Gossip have returned two years after their last release with a new drummer and a slightly new sound. Described as everything from dance-punk to "Pointer Sisters without synths", this is a preview of their upcoming album, coming out in January. "Standing In The Way Of Control" comes backed with a stellar remix by Le Tigre, with art by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth.Customer Reviews:

Gossip are lethal.......2007-02-05
I have to say i disagree with the above-mentioned reviews. I haven't felt the same way about a band since i was going through a large White Stripes phase some years ago.
This band are very similar to the Whites Stripes in that they have that stripped down, bedroom sounding production similar to Elephant. They also have the same type of bluesey guitar licks. The vocals are absolutely tremendous, bringing a soul voice to a rock band, although if she went on American Idol they would slate her.
It is of course the songs themselves that cement this record. Every song is a stone cold hit. The chorus of "coal to diamonds" has so much emotion it makes me feel nauseous.
The only downside is that the chorus of "Keeping you Alive" sounds slightly tacked on, even though it makes the main riff of that song sound cooler.
It is also worth noting that this band are hot enough to have tracks remixed by Belgian rock/dance crossover Soulwax and Le Tigre.
If these guys really float your boat it is worth checking out The Invisible Deck the Rogers Sisters.

Album Description
The hard-rockin' Northern California band's much-anticipated follow-up, Someone In Control, co-produced by Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Pearl Jam, Good Charlotte) and led by the track "Stand Up," expands on the strong sense of melody, soul-searching lyrics and archetypal hooks that separate Trapt from its Modern Rock peers. Fans are standing up for Trapt.Customer Reviews:
Just an EXCELLENT Album!.......2007-06-19
I always like to count how many songs I'm into right after buying a CD, as to let myself know whether I just wasted my money. SiC, which features 11 tracks, features EIGHT that I'm already hooked on, and I haven't even broken the CD in all the way! It's THAT good. If you loved their eponymous album, add this one to your collection.

Trapt's 'Coming Of Age' Third Release.......2006-11-15
It is quite unique to find an album with the first 3 songs pretty much the best in the album. 'Disconnected' deals with how each of us can feel apart, out of touch with our loved one's, our friends and colleagues. The lyrics are sung gracefully and full of meaning with the abtuse deep rock riffs in the background. 'Waiting' and 'Victim' are songs for the working man/woman. The lyrics depict a person who falls victim to a unfeeling/uncaring working society.
Another great song is 'Lost Realist' that is a song based on our morals and how they stand up to today's reality. Are we going to stand by our morals or succumb to the flavour of the month? This song asks the listener to think and reflect on what we term 'reality'.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable album with a great message of hope and reflection within its lyrics and Trapt have earned my respect in their approach. Through the on the road experience they are trying to impart what they have shared and learned to their fans. There are no mindless lyrics here. This album is great. Nothing is skin deep.
This CD is for any rock fan and especially for die hard Trapt fans.

Album Description
Chromeo is Pee Thug and Dave 1, best friends since their Montreal adolescence, virtuoso musicians, and hip-hop encyclopedias. Pee brings analog synth bass lines and drum machine wizardry a la Cameo and Prince, while Dave contributes melodic tales of urban romance. Their blend of catchy song structures, memorable hooks, and twirling guitar solos conjure up images of either a sophisticated, thugged-out Hall & Oates, or the subconscious meeting of Daft Punk and N.E.R.D.Customer Reviews:

It has to be done........2006-01-21
It's retro, funky, definately electro, and definately pop... kind of funny... there are alot of well-grounded melodies and 80s sounds and arrangements. It's the kind of nostalgic pop the world has been waiting for. If the 80s have, or are, coming back around again Chromeo are at the top of the pile of interesting electro pop artists. It's kind of kitch, light hearted and enjoyable. it's a good album so buy it and see if you enjoy it.

Album Description
Errol Morris' adroitly assembled documentary film "The Fog of War" examines the career of Robert S. McNamara-- United States Secretary of Defense during the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations and whose tenure includes the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crises. Combining excerpts from 26 hours of interviews with McNamara, archival footage, filmed recreations, as well as newly declassified White House recordings Morris' filmmaking illuminates a national past that ominously parallels the contemporary political present. Morris reveals what previous biographies failed to investigatethe relationship between McNamara and the infamous United States General Curtis LeMay and their involvement in the firebombing of Tokyoalong with 67 other Japanese citiesin 1945. Errol Morris states "The easy thing to say would be McNamara is a bad guy, he did all these bad things...the story is more complex and far more interesting than I imagined. The disturbing thing is that this was a man with real ethical dimension who did something terrible."As with music previously contributed to Morris' films, Philip Glass' score to "The Fog of War" effortlessly supports and enhances the film. The music, at times lyrical and at other times intense, deepens the horrifying images of war, highlighting the ambiguities of McNamara's characterand the consequences of his actions. Glass' music reinforces Morris' effort to understand the difficult ethical questions about governing and power raised by "The Fog of War".
Album Description
The acclaimed composer's score to the 2003 documentary by Errol Morris, their third collaboration. The film is subtitled ''11 Songs From The Life of Robert S. McNamara. Orange Mountain Music.Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2006-08-09
The film was great, but the score made it outstanding. .......2004-08-05
Glass does something wonderful with this score; he gives war, uncertainty, doubt and fear a musical element, an audible personality that captures each bomb, burnt building and ominous threat in complete perfection, leaving your ears and your mind in a state of disbelief and amazement, thinking to yourself, "Wow, that music fits this segment like a glove."
The Thin Blue Line score made me an instant Glass fan but this score made me borderline Glass fanatic.
In my opinion, he surpasses Carter Burwell in the category of most unflinching film composer.......by a long shot.
A Great Soundtrack for a Great Film.......2004-05-24
ANOTHER GREAT GLASS SCORE!.......2004-03-31
This score has more variety than Glass's score for another Morris film, "The Thin Blue Line". By the way, will "The Thin Blue Line" ever get released on DVD?
The pieces are all short ones, which makes it an easier listen for Glass newbies I would imagine, but I would have preferred a few longer pieces- all the short pieces make it sound like "Glass fragments"- on some pieces once Glass gets going he has to come to a stop.
Still, I wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful CD!
Glass' dramatic score is Fog's 'secret sauce'.......2004-03-22

With R&B charts dominated by the flat voices of disaffected post-New Jack soul boyz, Hammond's hyper-romantic, old-school throw-down--juiced by reggae's exotic allure--makes him one of the few stalwarts who can stir the soul of any deep-down old-fashioned gal. Jamaica's top-ranking soul brother also happens to be one of the island's greatest singer/songwriters, and this album, his sole recording for a stateside major label (Elektra), is a standout, even for this consistent and prolific vet. The scales may be tipped here towards R&B-infused love tunes, but lead track "Reggae Calling" makes an equally heart-swelling plea to the world to stop the violence, and truth-and-rights track "Motherland" receives its rightful share of Hammond's considerable store of passion. Of course, he would rather make love than war, and those urgent, whiskey-grained vocals throb most exquisitely when Hammond sings to the ladies in "We've Found It," a tale of young love in bloom, and in "No Disturb Sign," one of the best booty-knocking soundtracks ever recorded this side of Barry White. "I Won't Surrender" takes a stand against a faithless love, but Hammond is most familiar and convincing as the love junkie of "Can't Get Enough," a mix of moaning cries and startling poetic juxtapositions--the Bible, Oil of Olay, breakfast cereal. "I Could Beat Myself" revisits another favorite Hammond persona, the errant lover full of regrets, but nothing approaches his voice slipping midnote, like satin over silk, from a low, sultry croon to an angel's sweet swoon in "It's Not Too Late," his superheated duet with the reggae man's favorite partner, Marcia Griffiths. --Elena OumanoCustomer Reviews:

This record is yet another in a long line of soundtracks to be "musically supervised" by the stellar staff of California radio station KCRW. A DJ at the station, Tricia Halloran is the baby of the bunch, an indie-rock kid with a late-night show featuring bands such as those on this soundtrack. For the most part, her song choices here fall into three categories: bands that sound like the Beatles; bands that sound like (or are) Guided by Voices sounding like the Beatles; and Rebar, who contribute a terrible cover of "Legalize It," the title track of reggae giant Peter Tosh's first post-Wailers solo album. That the Dean Quixote soundtrack was released on spinArt must have equally to do with mysterious movie-industry politics and the fact that the Elephant 6 Recording Company seems to be missing in action, as many of the album's contributors have been formally associated with that lo-fi collective or sound as if they should be. Envision a radio show celebrating the works and influences of members of E6, then add an awful band that's owed a favor by the DJ, and this soundtrack will play in your mind. --Sarah A.
