Doubters who expect little from Celine Dion but turgid ballads will be surprised by her return to recording after several years. On A New Day Has Come, the big production numbers most associated with the Canadian superstar's name ("My Heart Will Go On," "Because You Loved Me") are evoked by the two versions of "I Surrender" and somewhat lifeless covers of "At Last" and "Nature Boy." At the same time, though, Dion shows her willingness to stretch on the classic-house homage "Sorry for Love" and the unavoidably catchy "Right in Front of You" and "Ten Days." The album's unexpected, often low-key production allows Dion to emote in a straightforward way that gracefully skirts the chest thumping of past days, and the relative subtlety works in her favor. Still, New Day will hardly prove a shocker for her many fans. Crowning the conservative Dion a forward-thinking diva seems a bit premature, but this agreeable record opens the door to such a possibility. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:
New Day for Celine's Career -- Emotion over Commercial Appeal.......2007-06-23
The album debuted on No.1 slot of the US chart alright and in other countries it was also expected with feverish anticipation (too many of us missed her), but received rather a cold reception from the critics and, interestingly, did not get a single Grammy nomination. Despite this, Celine's "New Day" was really new -- in a positive sense!
Put simply, Dion's new situation life obviously helped her infuse the generous set of 17 songs with an incredibly believable dose of palpable emotions. Beside the title track, an ode to the relationship with the new baby, this is nowhere more evident than in the ode to motherly love, the Mutt Lange-penned "Goodbye's (The Saddest Word)", where Celine, the youngest of 14 siblings apparently draws from a relationship with her own mom. Dion's singing on ballads is less melismatic (and thus less annoying -- this was a problem with "Let's Talk About Love"), ballads are sublime, many of them truly beautiful ("Have You Ever Been In Love", "Prayer"), and faster songs are more numerous than on "Let's Talk About Love", making the record varied and not too long even at almost 73 minutes (European version) of playing time. Nice, if not particularly memorable are the diva's shots at two standards -- Etta James' "At Last" and "Nature Boy", fresh off the then film-hit "Moulin Rouge".
A year after this, Celine put out another, this time a too ordinary CD for her standard, "One Heart", and her devotion to motherhood cause continued on Anne Geddes mono-thematic collab "Miracle". None of the two achieved the overall quality of "New Day", which, although employing less-known songwriters and having spawned no major hits, still remains the best Celine Dion CD of the new millennium so far.

A Masterpiece for Music.......2007-02-08
The Album as a Whole is Extremely Solid, with not just Great singles, but Great music throughout the Album.
This Album was obviously very personal to Celine. This was the start of a New Chapter in her life. The Song "A New Day Has Come" is about the birth of her baby son, whilst tracks like "Goodbye" is about the loss of her mother. This is one of the reasons why it is such a Masterpiece, because Celine felt the songs and because the songs were personal they are able to touch the people listening to them, who may be in the same circumstances.
I Am Writing this Review as I listen to the album and here is my rating of my fave tracks - 15 out of the 17 Tracks on the Album.
1."I'm Alive" - This song is just that. It makes you feel Alive. It is Upbeat and Uplifting. It has a Beautiful Melody and Rhythm. The lyrics are also beautiful, and it's no wonder this song became a single, as it is one of the best on the album. It's my 2nd Fave on the Album.
It talks about the feeling you get when the one you love is around you and you get an energy of them. The Song captures this Feeling Perfectly.
"When You Call On Me. When I Heare You Breathe.
I Get Wings To Fly. I Feel That I'm Alive.
When You look At Me I Can Touch The Sky.
I Know That I'm Alive
When You Last A Day. I Just Drift Away.
All My Wrorries Die. I'm Glad That I'm Alive" 5/5
2. "Right In Front Of You" - Is Another great song about having faith to find love in your life. It just sounds great and uplifting like the previous track. "Love Can Withstand A Storm. In The Final Hour We'll Find The Joy In Living." It sounds very Canadian. 4/5
3. "Have You Ever Been In Love" - This is a Beautiful Ballad and a single from the Album. It sounds very Jazz type and has A Beautiful Melody. The Lyrics are Even more beautiful
"Have You Ever Been In Love. You Could Touch The Moonlight.
When Your Heart is Shooting Stars.
You're Holding Heaven in Your Arms
Have You Ever Been So In Love.
Have You Ever Walked On Air.
Ever Felt Like You Were Dreamin'
When You Never Thought It Could. But It really Feels That Good.
Have You Ever Been In Love" 4/5
4. "Rain Tax" is a good Pop Song. The Lyrics aren't great, but it has a good tune. It's Inevitable she would fall in love with the man in the song she is singing about. "When You See What I Want. What I Want Is You" - 4/5
5. "A New Day Has Come" - This is the Radio Version, and is my Favourite version. My Favourite Track On The Album. Its A Pop Ballad, and has A Wonderful message. It talks about the Birth of her New Son. It has the Most Beautiful Lyrics
"Let The Rain Come Down, And Wash Away My Tears.
Let It Fill My Soul, And Drown my Fears.
Let it Shatter The Walls For A New Sun.
A New Day Has Come.
Where It Was Dark. Now Theres Light.
Where There Was Pain. Now Theres Joy.
Where There Was Weakness. I Found My Strength.
All In The Eyes Of A Boy" - 5/5
6. "Ten Days" - This is Quite A Good song. It's not the best on the album, but it's good. - 3/5
7. "Goodbye[The Saddest Word]" - This is a song about Celine's mother, who passed away while she was recording this album. The song is Beautiful, but I Can't help but feel sad when I Listen to it.
"Goodbye's The Saddest Word I'll Ever Hear.
Goodbye's The Last Time I Will Hold You Near.
Someday You'll Say That Word.
And I Will Cry. It'll Break my Heart To Hear You Say Goodbye."
There is Also a Great Spanish Guitar Instrumantation. This Song Captures the way we All feel about a Lost one at some point in our life. 5/5
8. "Prayer" is a Beautiful song that says how Children are Our Future, and how they should rejoyce and cherish life. Even though Sombre at times it is still Happy and Uplifting, with a Blatant Message of Hope. 4/5
9. "I Surrender" is a Good song about Surrendering everything to have A New Love, and Begin a Better Life. It's A Pretty good song. Geline Sings Well In It Too. 4/5
10. "Super Love" is Quite A Good Song, that Borders on Pop and Dance. It Talks about not settling for less in a relationship. "Some People Never Find Out, How It Feels To Be Feeling No Doubt" It's Not Great, nor Is One Of The Albums High points, but It's not Worth Skipping either. 3/5
11. "Sorry For Love" is one Of The Albums High Points. It's A Great Dance Song, and has A Great bridge where Celine holds a Powerful note for at least 10 seconds. One of My Favourites. 5/5
12. "Aun Existe Amour" is a Beautiful Spanish song. Celine's Vocals sound beautiful in this song. It also has Beautiful Instramentation. Beautiful Piano Chords and Sounds very Spanish and Lush. Beautiful is the only word that will describe it. This is Another Favourite of Mine. 5/5
13. "The Greatest Reward" is Another Beautiful ballad. The Lyrics are also Heartfelt.
"Now The Greatest Reward. Is The Light In Your Eyes.
The Sound Of Your Voice. And The Touch Of Your Hand.
You Make Me Who I Am."
A True Essence Of Love Is Captured In This Song. 5/5
14. "When The Wrong One Loves You Right" is A Good Pop Song. 4/5.
15. is The Original Version of "A New Day Has Come". This Version is Beautiful, But I Preffer The Radio Remix.
Overall This Is A Great Album, and ALL CELINE DION FANS AND MUSIC LOVERS SHOULD OWN IT. The Best time of Day to Listen to this Album is The Early Morning, Just as The Sun Is Rising. A New Day Really Has Come When You're Listing to this Record...And You'll Be Glad To Be Alive!

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08
The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!
I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.
The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

A Great Voice.......2007-03-27
A new dawning for both of us.......2003-02-19
I bought the original version on its release date.
It was also the day Sakis and i called it quits.
My friends called me crazy buying a Dion album on such a traumatic moment, most thought her sad ballads would have brought me on the edge of a nervous breakdown (some other even thought i might commit suicide...).
Well, my dear anti-celine fans, the news is that i'm very much well and alive.
And the album is great as usual: SORRY FOR LOVE is the track that i relate to the most, due to the above-mentioned facts.
And the fact that is not a ballad, but a dance tune, made it all easier to cope with.
Celine hits such HIGH notes she really proves to be from another planet, and to really be in a small league of talented vocalists.
RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU is the other track i love, because is the one i relate to beginning my relationship with Wayne later on that same year.
Coincidentally both tracks have been co-penned by Kara DioGuardi, who's becoming fast my # 2 female songwriter after Diane Warren - who unfortunately is not present on this collection.
Also David Foster does not appear, although he was rumored - before the CD release - to have produced the boombastic ballad I SURRENDER.
It is instead produced by Foster's long-time collaborator Simon Frangler and written by another smashing duo: Sam Watters and Louis Biancanello.
WHEN THE ONE LOVES YOU RIGHT is produced by Rick Wake that once more brings out the dance side of Celine.
Not that she can't make you dance, I'M ALIVE is another feet-stomping track by Sweden's Andreas Carlsson and Kristian Ludlin.
The Raggae-influenced SUPERLOVE is a fun tune co-written by Shelly Peiken (favourite female songwriter # 3...) and Guy Roche, who also produced it.
And what about the Clapton-esque guitar in the rocking TEN DAYS? Just unbelievable!
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE is a smooth slowtempo, although the real gem of the album in terms of ballads comes with the Corey Hart-written, Walter Afanasieff-produced PRAYER: deep meaning, great orchestration and choir, amazing vocals by Celine.
You can't be moved by such style...the same style that comes through with the titletrack (presented in both radio and album version).
Of course there are bad moments - no album is perfect: RAIN, TAX is just unlistenable, AT LAST does not even come close to the Etta James original version or the great Gladys Knight cover version...and God knows why NATURE BOY was chosen to be made a remake???
The album is really worth it.
Now let me suggest you this one version i am reviewing...because you get a couple of extra songs in the first place: ALL BECAUSE OF YOU is a very nice ballad and COULDA WOULDA SHOULDA another Carlsson/Ludlin uptempo that could have replaced any of the "bad songs" i just wrote about.
Then you get the I'M ALIVE VIDEO (ok, not much of an extra, i would have preferred, say, the making of of the album, but whatever...).
And finally - but strictly for die-hard fans - there is a 15.00 minute preview of Celine's Las Vegas Show to start on march 25th.
And here comes Wayne again, surprising me to hell getting us tickets for when i am there this upcoming Summer!
He says he wants me to move on from the past and to make all my dreams come true if he can...
It is really true, a new day has come: Celine sings it right!
Celine Dion Restores Soul and Spirit to Dance Music..........2003-01-24
Hopefully this CD will be the beginning of a new 'golden era' of dance music - nothing this good has been heard in years. Brava Celine!

A New Day Has Come to Another Level.......2004-04-04
In 2002 Celine Dion released 'A New Day Has Come' (ANDHC) hailed as a fresh reinvention of her illustrious carreer. ANDHC was far and away the most cohesive and best crafted album of 2002. Each song on the disc works in perfect harmony with all the rest to create an interesting and lively musical journey filled with worldly flavors and a variety of musical styles.
Everyone applauded and cheered. And then came the SACD.
I am thoroughly convinced that Sony's Super Audio CD is the perfect medium for an artist the calibre of Celine Dion. From the very beginning with the encompassing rhythmic intensity of 'I'm Alive' all the way to the rich acoustic sound of 'Nature Boy,' the album's final track, the SACD experience is phenomenal. To experience this immaculate album with such perfect sound reproduction and in three dimensional 5.1 surround sound is a stop-everything-to-listen event.
Highlights from the SACD version of the album include the phenomenal 5.1 mixes of 'Right In Front Of You,' 'A New Day Has Come,' 'Prayer,' 'I Surrender,' and 'Sorry For Love.'
In both versions of the title track which appear on this album the rich orchestral harmonization is displayed at best advantage through the surround sound. The strings are actually assigned their very own speaker channels so as not to be marred by the other instrumentation and Celine's heavenly vocals.
'Sorry For Love's' incredible dance appeal and ambient electronic sound, coupled with its huge dynamic range makes one wonder why dance clubs haven't started exploring the possibility of creating a surround environment.
In the closing track, 'Nature Boy,' the SACD reproduction is so incredible, that the listener can hear the piano player's feet tapping the piano petals.
All in all, the SACD version of ANDHC creates an incomparable wash of colors and sounds. It is an insurpassable purchase, and will certainly become an SACD standard even among music lovers for whom Celine Dion has seemed lack-luster, over-exposed and over-played.
A must have for any SACD collection
