Formed in the city of Lyon in 1998, ASHES AND DUST is a Progressive heavy-metal band displaying inventive compositions and great technical abilities. Released on the Brennus label, "Listen With The Eyes" (2003) puts the band among the best French representatives in the genre, while turning frankly towards the international scene. Both the technical quality and the instrumental mastery of the musicians make this ten-track album a real gem of Progressive heavy-metal music. Compositions prove to be carefully made, tonic and accurate, showing obvious symphonic trends. They owe quite much to the keyboards parts of the brilliant Damien FÜNFROCK. An urgent discovery to be made !

Great for home and classroom.......1999-03-21

No other composer so closely kept his fingers on the pulse of American thinking and gave the country so much of what it thought it wanted. "Yiddle on Your Fiddle" tells us more of the second-generation immigrants' desire to become Americanized than all the history and sociology books can ever do. So it is a double pleasure to announce the appearance of "Come on and Hear!: Early Songs by Irving Berlin, 1909-1915" and "Keep on Smiling: Songs by Irving Berlin, 1915-1918," two fantastic CDs or tapes on Oaktown label and released through a friendly little Connecticut company calling itself Original Cast Records. Between the two sets, you have 41 tracks of the Berlin output from "Everybody's Doing It Now" to "We're on Our Way to France." The soloist is Benjamin Sears, who with pianist Bradford Conner has something of a reputation around the Boston area. Now some of this material is duplicated by the more widely known Joan Morrison on two RCA Victor releases, possibly out of print by now; and like those discs could use another voice now and then. (Conner does join in where a duet is called for, but my point remains.) Sears is a capable if not an outstanding baritone, who does justice to these historic expressions of Americana. So not only do I recommend both of these sets for their enjoyment value, but I wish to continue to point out to Social Studies teachers how valuable sets like this would be to classes who have no concept of how people really felt (as opposed to what they merely said and did) "way back when." And I might even stick out my neck so far as to offer to come to any school (in reasonable distance of where I live) to give a sample lesson on how these sets can be used.

Album Description

The traditional flute music on this release offers both spirituality and healing brought forth by the "Old Ones", those who have walked before us. As a Native American, Mark shares a very special bond with wolves and this music is dedicated to them and to all living things past and present in the universe. The music is a tribute to the wolves of Wolf Mountain Sanctuary in California and all other four-leggeds and winged ones.

Close your eyes and open your heart to the sounds of nature that come alive through Mark's flute. His songs are very soothing and meditative, as well as spiritual. It will take you away to another time and place where you will feel peaceful and free. I have recommended Mark Thunderwolf's CD to everyone I know, and they have not been disappointed. Truly excellent Native American flute music!

This recording (Arabesque Z6561) is one of three CD recordings of Victor Herbert's music by Don Hunsberger and the Eastman School of music produced in the early 1980's. (The others are Arabesque Z6529 and Z6547) All are superbly recorded using the original orchestra arrangements from a composer who was gifted in the art of orchestration. We get a sampling of marches, selections from operettas, humor songs, and a selection from his opera Natoma. Teresa Ringholt sings with the orchestra on a few songs and her sweet soprano voice is perfect for the part. We need more of Victor Herbert's beautiful music to be discovered and performed in the way Herbert intended it to be performed. The authenic Victor Herbert may be the next discovery in the same way the authenic Scott Joplin has been discovered by the public.
