Album Description

Don't Look Back, originally released in 1997, was co-produced by Van Morrison, who also duets with Hooker on four tracks. The album contains newly recorded versions of Hooker classics, as well as some new songs and two bonus tracks. Los Lobos appear on a storming version of "Dimples," and Hooker takes on Hendrix with a cover of "Red House." The album won two GRAMMY Awards: Best Traditional Blues Album and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for the title track, with Van Morrison. Remastered with 2 bonus tracks.

Historic Ragtime.......2001-03-31

Charles Thompson was a contemporary of Jelly Roll Morton and James P. Johnson, and was one of the leading figues of the second generation of St. Louis ragtime pianists.

This album, made up of live recordings from the early 1960s, finds Thompson in reasonable form, playing some of his best known pieces plus a few standards. His powers had declined a little from his 1948-49 American Music recordings, but he was still able to play in an entertaining fashion. Many of the performances are rather short, but these are historic recordings by a little known but important figue in ragtime.

Delmark is to be commended for this release: let's hope they re-issue the rest of the Euphonic back catalogue. Anyone interested in ragtime and early jazz should consider buying this CD.

With this 1964 LP, Anna became the only female singer of the James Brown Revue to have her own album produced by the Godfather himself. This one's surprisingly rare, considering that Brown's band backs her and there are two pop hits here, a super-soulful CD debut!

Back To Soul includes Anna's distinctive versions of several soul and blues hits and some Brown originals written under various pseudonyms, plus a storming duet with Bobby Byrd, 'Baby Baby Baby', which took her into the R&B top 50 early in 1964 and bubbling under the Billboard Hot 100. Thus with Anna's stirring, soulful vocals, a range of familiar songs, the support of the James Brown Band and the production skills of Mr. Brown himself, Back To Soul was a notable album release on UK Philips in 1964. Consequently it has been a rare collectors' item, a situation which will be remedied by its long-awaited reissue on Shout! 2006.

The James Brown Revue Has Included Numerous 'feature' Female Singers Through the Decades, from Tammy Montgomery (Terrell), Sugar Pie Desanto and Vicki Anderson to Yvonne Fair and Lynn Collins, but While Mr Brown Included Most of These Ladies in 'live' Lps, and Others Had Solo Contracts with his Label, Only Anna King Enjoyed the Privilege of James Brown Producing an Album by Her. It was 1963, and Brown Had Just Signed with Smash Records to Score a Big Pop Hit with 'out of Sight'. He Noted the Quality of Anna's Voice, Had her Sign with Smash and Produced the "Back to Soul" LP. The Album Includes Anna's Distinctive Versions of Several Soul and Blues Hits and Some Brown Originals Written under Various Pseudonyms, plus a Storming Duet with Bobby Byrd, 'baby Baby Baby', which Took her Into the R&B Top 50 Early in 1964 and 'bubbling Under' the Billboard Hot 100.

Love Never Went Away.......2004-10-28

After reading the first review, I did some research on Jennifer Rose and found her web site, jenniferrosejazz.com
It turns out that she is not only a talented vocalist, but also a songwriter. She is a Redondo Beach, California girl that is now living and performing in Montreal, Quebec. The original songs on her web site give a much broader view of her talents than just the one track on this album. Maybe in a few years, this wonderful singer will be as well known as the legends on this CD.

A beautifully done CD!.......2004-02-25

A dear friend told me about this CD, and I purchased it on their suggestion. Upon receiving the CD bought on Amazon, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the packaging. The CD contains a wonderful little insert containing notes, lyrics and stories about the composers and performers.

This CD contains Standards performed by very well known artists like Rosemary Clooney, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Tormé, and other highly recognized performers. Each song is exquisitely arranged and recorded, and I really appreciate the attention to detail paid to recreating the sounds of decades past.

This is a wonderful CD, and I give it 5 stars. One last unexpected surprise; Song number 11 is a cover of a Harry Warren song titled 'I'll String Along with You'. Up and coming vocalist Jennifer Rose does a fantastic job at holding her own with these well known performers. I look forward to hearing more projects from Jennifer Rose in the future!
