It's nothing short of remarkable that Roger Waters has built a successful career on obsessive ruminations on alienation, megalomania, and guilty fame, largely on the backs of one of history's most long-lived arena acts. The musical legacy Waters has shared with "another band" (as he sharply refers to his former Pink Floyd mates in this collection's self-penned liner notes) has served two distinctly different functions: part and parcel of the latter's nostalgia act; autobiographical foundation for the former's ongoing, if decidedly egocentric, Rage at the World. That's essentially the rationale this live collection uses to lean heavily on Waters's Pink prime, from Dark Side of the Moon through The Final Cut. And if that frame sometimes overshadows the images of Waters's solo work--well, no one said he wasn't a pragmatic entertainer. Still, his cynical eye insures the juxtapositions work well; the Falkland-conflicted Britain of The Final Cut's "Get Your Filthy Hands off My Desert" and "Southampton Dock" is neatly bookended by Amused to Death's "Bravery of Being out of Range." There's a telling musical contrast with Floyd here, too, and it's one that goes beyond the album's stellar recording techniques. Waters's ensemble breathes new life into even the coldest of the Floydian dirges, while giving the hoary psychedelic romp "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" a welcome R&B groove. Waters concludes by offering up the previously unrecorded "Each Small Candle"--and an equally unexpected ray of hope. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

If you like sacred music, or hymns, then you'll thoroughly enjoy this CD. If you're a Christian, you should enjoy this as well, no matter your taste in music (and you might just learn to like hymns as well!). It is a well-chosen set of some of the most magnificent, God-honoring music of all time, done is a mostly very traditional manner, and it was done well.

EPICS THAT DO NOT DISAPPOINT.......2007-05-14
Interesting selections . . ........2006-12-15
The reason I give this album 4 out of 5 stars is because of the swashbuckler section. How is it that CutThroat Island - one of the greatest epics in history - was scrubbed out of the list? Pirates of the Caribbean is included on the selection but nothing from Debney's masterpiece?!
Yes, that is a huge compilant. If you haven't discovered CutThroat Island, I suggest you get it then you'll understand my frustration. Still, this album is a great buy and worth looking into!

Do yourself a favor and by the DVD instead.......2003-06-29
great music, great performance, bad milti-channle mix.......2003-04-27
I had been waiting a while for a surround sound Pink Floyd CD and I bought an SACD player just so I could listen to the new AMAZING Dark Side Of The Moon. While I was on this kick, I decided to buy Roger Waters' live solo album In The Flesh. I was a little worried at first, because this is Roger Waters and not PINK FLOYD, even though Roger was part of Floyd in a BIG way. But I decided to give it a chance. Also, there are a good amount of Floyd songs on here that I hadn't heard performed live by the original Pink Floyd, so I thought this would be the next best thing.
And it IS. I thought the old Floyd stuff was done very well. I don't really care for the Waters solo stuff too much but the Floyd stuff is great. The only problem with this SACD is the surround sound mix. About 80% of the audio comes from the left and right speakers, leaving the rear speakers for audience cheering, sound effecs, and once in a while, an instrument or two. As far as I could tell, the center speaker was not used at all, and the sub woofer was used at a minimum. No instruments came from the woofer, just a slight rumble of effects. THIS MIX LACKS BASS! When i listen to it, it's like the audio is coming from 4 transistor radios, and not an 80 watt surround sound system. The strangest thing of all is that this mix was done by James Guthrie, who mixed the Dark Side Of The Moon SACD. DSOTM sounds AMAZING. It is probably the best sounding SACD/DVD-Audio that I have ever heard. In The Flesh sounds like .... I can harldy believe that the same man mixed both albums.
In my opinion, (and I'm sure there will be many who disagree) an SACD isn't worth your time (to locate, they are not popular yet) or money unless they are multichannel. I paid $$$ for this when I could have gotten the regular CD version for $$$, would be able to play it in ANY cd player, AND would be able to adjust eq. The CD version would cost less money AND sound better.
Oh Roger...Roger,what did we do?.......2002-12-29
in almost every album he's ever done.He cannot stand
the rudimentary level of consciuousness that
most of society operates under. He has been
pointing out the pigs to anyone who will listen
and waitng for the rest of the world to wake up.
I praise him for that, but he belongs with Pink-
Floyd. This CD shines when it covers Rogers solo
numbers, but I cringed when I heard the classics.
It becomes clear(as if it werent already)who the
music was in Pink Floyd and who was the words. If
you're a true Floyd fan you probably won't care for
it.SACD,though,is mind blowing.Wow,so much more
resolution in the recording,I was smoked!! It's like
being in the studio.Crystal clear sound that is just
dripping with power.I can't even listen to 44.1khz now!
This format retains the power and warmth of analog and
the clean sound of digital.SACD is capable of over100khz
frequency response and a sensitivity of 120db over the entire
listening range. You've never heard anything like it and it
will change you in ways you can't imagine. You will be able to
feel the music, perceive it as you do in a live show, mind blowing! you will need a SACD player, the one I got is the
SONY DVP-NS755V.It can play any CD(SACD,CD,CDR/RW,Data,Video)
as well as DVD's.Amazon.com didn't have it yet so I ordered from [a local store].It was at my door 4 days after ordering.....Hooked up to my Yamaha HTR5540 and
my stereo is no longer being used.ABT is an awesome company if
you're wondering. In fact there arent very many companies like

Unexpect's wild musical adventures are fuelled by a mish-mash of creative styles - black, death, progressive and classical metal. The band's delivery is an awe-inspiring adrenaline rush in vein of Mr. Bungle, The Jesus Lizard and if Cirque du Soleil went black metalCustomer Reviews:
Crazy avantgarde stuff.......2007-01-12
Amazon recommended this album to me and I'm very grateful for that, because I would never found this band out otherwise. This is the music for everybody's ears. I strongly advise you to hear the samples before you order.
This album is my avantgarde metal favorite for 2006.
Yes...!.......2006-09-13
"In A Flesh Aquarium" is a schizophrenic genre trip... only with all involved genres being turned inside out and twisted beyond any form of immediate recognition. There are possible points of reference, but they are sort of vague - certain moments remind me heavily of what Maudlin of the Well's experiments in amalgamation might have sounded like if Toby Driver and the guys had recorded them during a tour through oblivion instead of a journey through the astral realm of dreams or whatever the hell they were doing; others bring to mind what Ram-Zet might sound like if they dropped some of the melancholy and added about 200% theatrical adventurism; moments that bring to mind classic Russian folk music; and stuff that really does sound like the Cirque du Soleil gone black metal. There are even moments that remind me of Mr. Bungle and Primus, and very specific excerpts in certain songs that wouldn't have much trouble passing for The Dresden Dolls.
The vocals are all over the place. Guitarists/vocalists Syriak and Artagoth trade off raging screams, black metal-ish shrieks, and death metal-ish growls. Occasionally they will let up for some dark spoken narrative, and sometimes to harmonize in odd fashion with female vocalist Leilindel, who by the way is very adept and delivers in a voice that's scattered all over the spectrum. Very emotive, very fluid.
The arrangements are unreal... blistering metal will give way to jazzy acoustic pieces, which will give way to classical interludes that slowly build into a heavily orchestrated version of something you might hear at a circus, which will in turn diminish into a darkly ambient stretch of atmosphere... and just like that will drop back into an unrelenting metal assault, only to be broken by a solo female vocal piece backed by a cinema-scopic electronic canvas, which will again drop into spastic metal which slowly morphs into a Waltz-like section... and on, and on, and on. Dynamics are key. I'm not talking soft-loud-soft-loud-soft-build-build-explode type dynamics prevalent among bands like Neurosis and Isis, nor am I talking about the effective yet somewhat predictable genre-hopping of bands like Mr. Bungle, Estradasphere, and Tub Ring... the stuff here is everywhere all at once while never being in any one particular place at any particular time. This is an ultimate example of unbridled artistic expression wrapped up in musical form.
The playing is phenomenal and frenetic, and ChaotH's bass work especially deserves special mention. The keyboards come in a variety of different styles, from acoustic piano melodies to atmospheric backgrounds, and even all out electronic soundscapes like the tracks 'Silence_011010701' and 'The Shiver - Another Dissonant Chord', the latter being complemented by Leilindel's erratic vocals. The drumming is fast, technical, and diverse, but I have to say that the guy can get a bit out of control with the double bass at times. Violins courtesy of Le Bateleur (who has since left the band I believe) add a nice touch, but nothing really show-stopping save for a few prominent and well-placed lines that pop up occasionally.
"In A Flesh Aquarium" is turbulent, dissonant, chaotic, tranquil, somber, beautiful, theatrical, and WAY out in left field.
I love it.

Carter Burwell cut his film scoring teeth on many a Coen brothers movie, quickly gaining a reputation for a quirky, human-scaled inventiveness that informed everything from jazz and folk to orchestral music and even the well-timed nod to Morricone. That often introspective sensibility is well paired to director John Lee Hancock's revisionist take on the legend of San Antonio's fabled doomed fortress, which focuses more on the conflicted human dimensions of its characters than familiar cardboard, pop culture heroics. Burwell's use of orchestral pomp is deliberate and decidedly restrained; more often the composer leans on spare, evocative passages of simple, though ever-inventive folk-based music (like the elegiac "Quiet Mountain") played by various combinations of guitar, banjo, and violin. Vintage traditional Mexican and American tunes are also given their atmospheric due via Jennifer Hammond's and Craig Eastman's arrangements of "La Zandunga" and "Listen to the Mockingbird Sing," respectively. But its Burwell's own peculiarly modernist instincts that inform both tradition ("Crockett's DeGuello") and his own masterfully understated cues, particularly the bleak, almost gothic emotional landscape of his six-part "Battle of the Alamo Suite" and its bittersweet coda, "Blood or Texas." --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
Don't Remeber THIS "Alamo".......2006-07-21
Tiomkin,and old-line symphonic genius,provided a magnificent score,at once adventurous and poingnant..
The people responsible for this version of"The Alamo"decided to teach, rather than entertain, and,at the same time attempted to be politically correct as well. Thus, the mythic aspects inherent in the John Wyane version were replaced by morally ambiguous nonsense, and heroics were more or less eliminated in favor of a rather desperate survival theme, coupled with some added imperialistic touches with the addition of the Sam Houston charecter as a major player along with Bowie,Crockett, and Travis.
The people responsible for this film ,having many fine symphonic-oriented composers to choose from instead opted for minalmism by Carter Burwell..One can hardly imagine, for instance,a five-star gourmet meal served on a foam plate, with plastic knife and fork.Likewise one can hardly imagine a would-be epic western (even if it is very revisionist)bearing a score that plays like a new-age snoozer...But this is exactly what Burwell has given us...There are no epic themes here...There is an enormous orchestra credited as having participated in this project however when one listens to the finished product one is hard-pressed to HEAR any evidence of this participation.
John Wyane's script called for a lot of action on-screen,and Tiomkin obligingly provided very suitable musical themes..
The script for this new film does not call for very much action, even short-changing the audience during the final battle scene by shooting it in near-darkness,and underscoring it with a dirge-like monotone.
This new film was"troubled"from the very start.Ron Howard was supposed to direct but he didn't.The cast was shuffled around several times. Some "Main"charecters were eliminated entirely ,although thier traces continued to show up in the trailers released for this movie..While on the subject of the trailers for this film, the music used in them was 110% better than the Burwell claptrap..Scenes featured in the trailers were actually NOT in the finished film. The film was scheduled for a christmas opening,a slot usually reserved for top-of-the-line oscar contenders, and was then, suddenly yanked, and later released in April, where it died a much-deserved death after about a week in theatres,a colossal flop.
The film was terrible, and part of this is due to the Burwell score which is terrible-plus.

None Better.......2004-12-01
OK, please bear with me, I will get to my point in a second. We ended up renting the film as I had heard the cinematography was sensational (it was). But my biggest surprise was the film itself. Not the script, not the actors, but the entire film. I can't really put into words how good it was, not perfect, but an excellent motion picture and probably an accurate depiction of the individuals and events as they occurred. And both Thornton and Quaid were exceptional...they deserve Oscars come January, and it will be a shame if they don't get them.
Now, concerning this soundtrack. To put it simply, if this CD isn't the best soundtrack winner for 2004, then there is a conspiracy going on. It isn't on Amazon's editors picks, nor the customer's favorites list, I chalk that up to being it was just recently released. However, it should be on both, and highly competitive for the top honors this year. It is simply that good. Carter Burwell set a new standard with the soundtrack for O Brother, Where Art Thou? and may have exceeded it with this one. The music here just puts the visualizations of the movie back into my head...the music retells the story as well as the images.
The bottom like is fairly straightforward, if you liked the movie than you owe it to yourself to get this soundtrack. There is absolutely no way you will be anything other than engrossed in it.

It could have been so much more..........2006-07-25
For a fully symphonic Pink Floyd experience, try "Us and Them" by the London Philharmonic.
don't bother too spent 0 on any think.......2006-03-03
Could have been much better.......2005-04-10
"Money", "Time" and especially "In the Flesh" are pathetic, "Us and them" and "WYWH" sound like an interminable folk music evening on German TV, and "Another Brick..." is just plain bad.
On the other hand, "Hey you" would have been quite good minus the vocals. As for "The great gig in the sky", it is the only track I would call listenable throughout, the usual horrible vocals being replaced by a woman who can actually sing.
The problem with this album is not the inevitable alteration of the spirit of Pink floyd, but the absolutely APPALLING vocal performance and some painfully kitchy instrumentation at times. Well, most of the time, actually.
If you're a diehard PF fan - like myself - and think you can take anything with its name on it, well, think again. If you don't even like Pink floyd, you'll never be able to listen to this.
Hardly symphonic........2005-03-29
