Album Description

Lots of bands claim to be different, but few actually are. Engineers are definitely one of the few. They ardently believe in the restless, symphonic power of music and are driven by the same impulse that compelled Dennis Wilson to write "Pacific Ocean Blue" or Talk Talk to forge "Spirit of Eden". They occupy a smoked out space between Brian Eno and the Cocteau Twins through to Todd Rundgren, Spiritualized, or Air meets Beta Band.

Not All It Promised To Be..........2007-05-23

I purchased this CD based on an Amazon recommendation. The formula seemed conducive to something I would really, really like. I do admit this is a good album but it lacks something that I can't quite put my finger on. I would definitely point to comtemporaries such as AU4 and, more importantly, the very strong and fleshed out album "Love And Distance" by The Helio Sequence as alternatives. I won't shelf this album for good...I'll give it a chance...but my first impression is that there are a lot better albums out there in this same vein.

Decent tunes that few will hear.......2007-03-09

I'm really glad there's still bands like these. You know "Shoe gazer" (I hate that term) type groups similar to Chapterhouse and Slowdive. This particular album did take a few listens for me. At first, it seemed a little too similar to those aformentioned bands. Luckily, I decided to give it a couple more listens, kind of in a "playing in the background while you prepare dinner" kind of way. The songs started to define themselves and the subtle nuances started percolating to the top. I'm very curious to see what direction their next album takes (if there is a next album). Sadly, it seems bands like these just kind of fade away without anyone ever hearing about them.

Ovo je svakako mogao da bude jedan od najboljih albuma 2005. da momci nelice toliko na Air i nesto manje na Flaming Lips. Generalno, ovo je dobar album kojem jedino nedostaje mastovitost i orginalnost, tako da i odlicne pesme kao sto su Home i Forgfivness ostavljaju za sobom znak upitnika u vazduhu.
Steta, nadam se da ce sledeci album biti mnogo kreativniji

Stealth Best Album of the Year.......2005-10-28

I picked up Engineers' album more or less because I liked the cover art (along with the stellar NME review). Although I enjoyed the album upon first listen, it slowly grew on me. A few months after my purchase, I had become practically addicted to this somewhat obscure new group.

Engineers practice sort of a 21st century style of shoegazer pop (think Lush or My Bloody Valentine). There are more electronics in the mix than traditional shoegazer music, but they are seamlessly integrated into the sonic tapestry, and not like a square peg in a round hole as is often the case with electronics in rock. The disc has a well done mix of live drums and IDM-style programmed drums. Things start wonderfully with the majestic "home," and really pick up steam with "Forgiveness" (my CD includes a rather creepy video for this song). "Let's Just See" and the not-as-loud-as-it-sounds "Thrasher" are also standout tracks. I'm a musician who records using my computer, and I unconsciously recreated "Let's Just See"- probably as a result of having it stuck in my head so long.

There really aren't any other bands creating music like this right now. Engineers have a sound with clear influences, but have sucessfully taken those influences into their own sonic cathedral.

Total bliss. Kinda Pink Floyd-ish without any hard rocking. They're totally mellow, totally unknown and underrated (as far as I know anyway). To me The Engineers are one of the most original bands to listen to. Good music for relaxing, reading, and sleeping.

Engineering a Future.......2004-12-01

London based quartet The Engineers are a very talented band, proof is found no further than their debut effort Folly. Coming in the shape of a six track ep, it is a wonderful and at times mesmerizing array of indie beauty arriving from the same camp as My Bloody Valentine, Air and Doves.
Swirling harmonies and sweeping contrasts provide the basis of the sound, whilst the majestic vocal talent of Simon Phipps creates imaginative scope thats on a different playing field to any other band at the moment.
Engineers are forging their own highly original, deeply intense, utterly original sonic masterpiece. Odds on to be magnificent next year, the talent is certainly there but are the mainstream ready to open their minds to the groundbreaking sound of this band. Lets hope so.
