Green Day takes the title International Superhits literally, offering a no-surprises compilation of all the songs that made a big dent on commercial radio. From the pop-punk heroes' breakthrough album Dookie ("Longview," "Welcome to Paradise") through Insomniac ("Brain Stew"), Nimrod ("Good Riddance [Time of Your Life]"), and Warning ("Minority"), if a record produced a hit, that song is on this album. There are only two new tracks on the Superhits (both recorded a couple of months before the album's release)--the spazzed out rock & roll singalong "Maria" and the puppy-dog love of "Poprocks & Coke." Because International Superhits doesn't pull from Green Day's early EPs and Lookout albums or offer any live variations, though, this album is really only one for the serious-minded collectors who don't want to skip past a single Green Day release. -- Jennifer Maerz

4 out of 5 stars Green Day-International Superhits! (an unbiased review).......2007-06-16

First, let me start off by saying that this is an unbiased review. I'm not a fan of the band nor do I dislike the band. I'm a fan of all types of music. I also won't be comparing this album to any other albums from the band. This review will be strictly on this particular album. Now onto the review.

Here's a breakdown of the songs:

Maria-This is one of the songs on this album that I didn't know before listening to this album. Clearly one of their earlier hits. In comparison to the other songs on this album, this song is just ok. Still has the typical fast pace guitars that Green Day is known for which is a plus.

Poprocks & Coke-Another song that I didn't know.Another just ok song from the band. That doesn't prevent me from blasting this song as loud as I can however. The harder guitars and quirky verses add so much to this song.

Longview-A classic Green Day hit. The lyrics are funny as hell, the chorus makes you want to scream the lyrics as loud as you can. One of my favorite Green Day songs.

Welcome to Paradise-Another awesome sing along. The instrumental solo is the real kicker in this song. It might not be one of my favorite songs from the band but it's a great addition to the album.

Basket Case-How could anyone not like Basket Case? Again, great lyrics, hard guitars. Catchy as heck. One of my favorite songs on this album.

When I Come Around-The first song on this album to showcase the band's more emotional and meaningful music. This song means a ton to me. The chorus isn't anything special but it doesn't have to be. The guitars and stellar lyrics take care of that.

She-Another song I didn't know. Sad, because it's a great, catchy little song. If you're unsure about whether or not to get this album for fear of not liking the songs you haven't heard of, you've nothing to worry about. This one song made the rest of the album worth it.

J.A.R.-Not one of the best songs on this album. I tend to skip over this song more than listen to it. I do like to listen to it when I'm angry though. Nothing is more punk rock than this song.

Geek Stink Breath-LOVE the guitars in this song. This is another just ok song. The chorus just isn't all that catchy and doesn't have much of a climax. The monotony killed what could have been a great song.

Brain Stew-You know this one too. The guitars steal the show in this song. The catchiness and heaviness of the guitars are enough to make this song one of my favorites on this album.

Jaded-This one is normally connected to Brain Stew. Short and sweet, this song makes you want to pump your fist in the air and sing at the top of your longs.

Walking Contradiction-The perfect punk rock song-funny lyrics, fast/catchy guitars, and an incredibly awesome chorus to sing along to.

Stuck With Me-I'll admit that this song sounds a lot like 75% of the other songs on this album. However, it still stands on its own. I don't play this one too often.

Hitchin' A Ride-One of the few different songs on this album. As always, the guitars put this song on a whole other level compared to the other songs. This was another song I didn't know but it is now one of my favorites.

Good Riddance-The one that everyone knows the words to. Some say it's overplayed (it's everyone's senior song after all). Probably my favorite song on this album. It never, ever gets old.

Redundant-One of the more emotional songs on this album. It's an above average song although this is another one I skip pretty often. I only wish the chorus was not so monotonous.

Nice Guys Finish Last-An older Green Day song. Funny lyrics but, again, the chorus is nothing special.

Minority-The first real song on this album that uses harmonies. This is my personal anthem. Another great Green Day classic! One of my favorites on this album.

Warning-Whenever I think of this song, I'm reminded of the music video that went with it and I immediately blast it as loud as I can. It's great to hear an acoustic guitar in this song when the majority of the songs are fast paced.

Waiting-A great way to end this album. Again, not my favorite song but it's still a Green Day hit and needs to be included.

My rating: 4/5 stars. I like 90% of the songs on this album. The other 10% is the reason for the 4 stars. Although I didn't know most of the songs before I listened to this CD, it's great to hear new material (to me) and I actually liked a lot of them. This is a must have album for any punk rock fan or any person who likes even only a couple Green Day songs. You don't know how much you want this album until you listen to it the whole way through.

5 out of 5 stars Green Day - Very Good Compilation.......2007-04-26

I have never been into Punk Rock, but I do like Green Day. Of course there are people out there that do not consider Green Day to be true punk, so opinions as to where they fit in the rock n roll spectrum will vary. However you categorize them there is something about these guys that has always appealed to me. Like The Offspring they are a band that is very different from what I usually listen to, but whenever I hear their stuff on the radio I can't get it out of my head. In the case of Green Day I think they just write damn catchy songs. When this album came out I decided to pick it up and was glad I did. The majority of this album contains 3 minute gems of well written proto punk with plenty of attitude and verve. Their music is relatively simple, but like the best rock bands the band get the maximum out of the musical chops that they do posses. Another thing I notice over the course of this compilation is how the band matures. The early songs are pretty much straight 3 chord punk, but the latter stuff contains significant variety and even innovation. This would be carried on to a great extent on their next studio release, the outstanding American Idiot which would come out 3 years later. International Superhits skips over the band's first two albums concentrating on the ones that came later. All the huge hits are here along with some choice album cuts. Two new songs are also included, Maria and Poprocks And Coke, both of which are great little tunes. If you already have their studio albums this compilation only adds the two new songs, so it may be for you. If you don't own the studio discs this is a pretty good overview of the band's career up to this point.

4 out of 5 stars all of the oldies on some new-bees on one long album!.......2007-04-16

maria is a cool song and it has a nice, fast melody to it, poprocks and coke, if you get used to it, can be a great song. longview from dookie has a little language problem. the grouch is worse, though. i'm so glad that basket case got on the greatest hits cd. stuck with me from insomniac is also on of my favs. if you like classic-sounding rock, listen to hitchin' a ride or welcome to paradise, originally from kerplunk, put on to dookie and now to this album. i loved it when i got it for christmas. i don't like green as much as i used to, but i still think it's cool.

5 out of 5 stars Green Day.......2007-04-05

It has some bad words in it. It is a good CD. It has 21 songs. Most songs are good.

5 out of 5 stars It's all here. Never gets old. Its a must-have for anyone. GD fan or not........2006-12-08

These songs never get old. You've got all of their hits from the raw bass intro of "Longview," the sarcastic "Welcome to Paradise," the ever popular "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around," the soundtrack fav. "JAR" the slow hard sound of "Brain Stew" the 90 second punk madness of "Jaded" the catchy "Stuck With Me" and "Walking Contradicton" and "Hithcin A Ride" The super-ballad "Good Riddance (time of your life)" which showed the soft side of Green Day as well as in "Redundant" "Waiting" and the sad ballad "Macy's Day Parade." But thats not all. you also have "She" "Nice Guys Finish Last" "Warning" and one of my favorites: "Minority." And any good band would throw in a couple newbies like the punky American Idiot-like "Maria" to the new age pop-punk sound of "Poprocks & Coke". Its all here Ladies And Gentlemen. Lets face it "American Idiot" was an awesome comeback. "Bullet In A Bible" was a great live set, the first two albums "Smooth" and "kerplunk!" were cool, and so was the B-Sides of "Shenanigans" and if the master tapes of "Cigarettes and Valentines" hadnt been stolen then I bet that cd would have been great too. But nobody can put a price on "Dookie" "Insomniac" "Nimrod" "Warning" and the best songs on those four albums coming to life once againg on this hits collection. Get this with "American Idiot" or "Bullet In A Bible" or "Nimrod" or maybe even "Shenanigans" or my favorite of them: "Dookie". Get those if you want to hear true Green Day. I have never been disapointed by this group and if you buy this then you wont either! If all you have heard is "idiot" then you havent heard anything yet! The old stuff is much more "punk" and in my own opinion better. AI is great but this is the greatest. 21 tracks. Pure punk madness that you wont loose any sleep on like they did when they recorded "Brain Stew"...buy it today!

Songs in Max Rabbe's distinctive signature style, imagine you are in a smoky café in the Weimar republic.

5 out of 5 stars Swingin fantastic.......2007-02-19

This album is fantastic, a blend of current hits mixed to smooth 20/30's big band swing and crooning. Max has a very distinctive style, reminiscent of the German Nightclubs of the 30's and Cabaret. Highly recomend it.

5 out of 5 stars addictive and fun.......2007-01-06

I heard a tape of Max Palast while preparing for an SRL show. Of the five of us in the shop, two would turn the radio off every time the passed, two would turn it up every time the passed, and one thought the whole thing silly. The music I make an effort to listen to tends to run toward Lords of Acid or Diamanda Galas, and yet I listen to it all the time. My 74 year old dad liked it too, though I had to try to explain who Britney Spears was.

5 out of 5 stars kurt weil meets.... .......2006-12-17

Too wonderful. Sort of indescribable. Imagine you are in a smokey cabaret while listening. Hard to describe but wonderful. I listened to this about 20 times in a row when I bought it.

Oh and I listened to Oops I did it again twice before I realized what it was. Unbelievable I had no idea that was a good song.
