no one will mistake this for the classic era of bee thousand or alien lanes, but it is arguably the finest work in the GbV canon. most of these songs were recorded during the universal truths and cycles sessions and are better than almost anything on that LP. beg for a wheelbarrow is one of the best songs robert pollard has penned. and given his abundant songwriting output, that's saying something!

well worth your hard-earned dollars. and there you have it.

essential GBV.......2005-05-16

This bad boy is a "lost" gem. The only thing keeping me from saying that it ranks among the finest GBV albums is it's short running time. But it's an ep. You can't hold that against it. It's like the middleweight that is considered, pound for pound, one of the best boxers in any division.

One thing I can say for sure: This, along with ISOLATION DRILLS and BEST OF..., are the only GBV albums in which "skip" isn't even in my vocabulary. Not that I press it while listening to the others, but I may consider it ever so briefly. Here, it doesn't even cross my enamored brain when I listen...Every song is a winner.

I have read that these songs are from the UTAC sessions. I consider that one to be a underrated album in the first place. Can you imagine if these were stuck on there too? Whooee, look out!

not the best by guided by voices.......2003-09-11

got 23 minutes? thats all you need to hear this EP by guided
by voices. when i bought this in the store i did not know it
was an EP, once i saw their was only 10 songs( which for guided
by voices is short) and its also limited. some of this album
is pointless and it wasent even like they were trying. two songs
are 50 seconds, and whats the deal with some of these song titles? beg for a wheelbarrow?
stronger lizards? but there are good songs.
the last song sounds like an anthem for an irish pub.
i like the first song and second, and
i think that stonger lizards has very cool
chord progression, but it would have been
better if it were longer, some songs are meant to be short and
some really arent. this isn't a bad album, it s good, but if
you are just getting into this group, dont buy this album.
universal truths and cycles is a very good album, with the
absoulutley great song " pretty bombs". i am going to go out
and buy alien lanes by them which is from 95, because it has
28 songs and is 41 minutes. how cool is that?

One of GBV's best eps........2002-12-14

The only fault I can find with this cd is that it is overpriced for how short an album it is. But the songs on here are very high quality. Visit This Place and Dig Through My Window show GBV's more pop-oriented side. Beg For A Wheelbarrow will have you raising your beer and chanting along with Pollard next time the band comes to your town. The title track is remeniscent of older GBV, circa Alien Lanes. The rest of the tracks are no filler either. It's often hard to know what you're going to get with GBV's side releases, but this one is top knotch, even better than the quality Hold On Hope ep. If you love GBV, you need this cd. If you're only mildly interested in the band, or just thinking about picking up your first GBV record, start with another release that will give you more for your money.

Soundtrack of the homonymous movie, "Pipe Dreams" is the record of "So Sad The Song", always present in the numberless collections released with such names as "Greatest Hits", "The Best of", etc. etc. But it has more! It has the powerful and wonderful performance of Gladys to "Pipe Dream", it has the captivating "Follow My Dream" ( composed by Rev. J. Cleveland), the clammy "Nobody But You" (you wish to sing together, kind of, "everybody: nobooody but youuuu, nobooody but yoooou...) and a delightfull instrumental tune, called "Pot Of Jazz", where Gladys & The Pips sing along just things like "pa pa pa pa tchou rou rou..." and you else wish to clap your hands and sing together with them. A brilliant work of Buddah times!

I find this CD a great addition to the other "easy listening" ones I own. I have not grown tired of it. While I am not a highly trained musician, I do appreciate good music. This is good music at an affordable price.

"Canned" Music of the Worse Kind.......2005-07-05

I don't know when I've been so uninspired listening to music that should be inspiring to listen to. It's "canned" elevator music of the worse kind. There is no emotion put into it, no depth of feeling. It just sounds like music being played using electronic or recorded synthesizers, very measured and mechanical sounding, with no variations of pitch or tempo. So non-dimensional is this music that I highly recommend finding Irish music elsewhere.

This CD is one of my favorites to listen to when I need to unwind or just reflect. If you have an Irish background it will stir your spirit. Each song is a pleasure to listen to and will relax you in know time. I listen to it each morning while I have coffee and plan the day. It will take your spirit right to Ireland.

PSYCHEDELIC WARLORD BROCK IN THE OUTER LIMITS!.......2003-02-04

Hawkwind founder and leader Dave Brock has finally issued a new solo work. Strange Dreams & Pipe Dreams is his first
solo work since the `80s and was worth the wait. Though, this CD sounds alot like Hawkwinds' music, one must remember
that Brock is the head warrior behind the band and its nice to hear him behind the controls and cruisin' the outer limits and
infinite depths of space alone this time. Among the starlights is a pastoral churchly space remake on the Hawkwind classic
"Space Is Deep" this time around simply titled "Space". "Bosnia" opens with some meticulous charming acoustic guitar and then
blasts into the ugliness of warfare which Brock reflects in spoken poetry against backdrops of gunfire and crazed laughing that
is suddenly smoldered over with some attractive cathedral soundscapes of keyboards. All in all this is a well rounded effort of
new music and will satisfy the hungry psychedelic appetite of Hawkfans everywhere. This is one PSYCHEDELIC WARLORD
that has not disappeared in smoke!

I bought this album 2 years ago and I've played it dozens of times. Like all Hawkwind albums, you'll discover something new in it every time you listen to it.

Beuatiful, melodic, meditative, wonderful.......2007-03-18

This is perhaps my favorite work of Devon Williams' various projects (Osker, Roscoe, F.C.M.M.). It is more melancholy, slow, and sparse then his other work. Think of it as a solo acoustic EP as there are no other musicians who play on the album (I think) and no rockin' drums or heavily distorted guitars. More importantly, the songs and the lyrics are amazing, Williams at his best. All of this culminates to form one of my favorite releases ever. No joke.

This a very pretty album. I love it..just as with all of devon's music. The songs are very complete and strong. Its deffinetly worth buying.
