Love, Death, Hate, Disease, and all Other Triffid Things.......2000-09-01
This sampler is an excellent place to start investigating this largely overlooked group fronted by the late David McComb. The "hits" just keep on coming: "Property is Condemned," "Jesus
Calling," "Hell of a Summer," are perhaps the standout tracks. But it's hard to determine which track is the best, because they are all so good: An intelligent blend of intensity, subtlety, keyboards, country, grit, and passionate lyricism. All of these "Americana" practitioners could all learn something from the Triffids - that truly heartfelt music doesn't merely consist of whining and drawling about bad whiskey, a broken heart, or a broken truck, but the feeling goes deeper. Some bands have "it" and some don't. The Triffids had IT. They WERE IT. A REAL band.
Sadly unavailable on CD are some of the earlier Triffids singles to include "Being Driven," and the very Kinks-like "MGM". These tracks although quite good showed a formative band in search of a stle that they eventually perfected and is well represented on "Love in Bright Landscapes."
