This is the second stateside album by this workmanlike Swedish power pop garage act. People who don't use TiVo to skip through the adverts have already heard the best song on the album, "Jerk It Out," from that iPod Shuffle commercial. That tune's been tacked on here even though it's 3 years old, and it's easy to see why it was resuscitated as it blows away its neighbors on this CD. Organ-driven, tight and cool, "Jerk" is the kind of song you just want to dance around a crowded room filled with cute people all dressed up like mods and ready to party. The lyrics are daft, but they're young, and it's just rock music, right? Not all the new tunes pale in comparison to "Jerk it Out," however. "Your Time Is Near" is a really good, suggesting collaboration between the Concretes and the Brian Jonestown Massacre, while "We Got To Leave" judiciously uses handclaps. In the end, however, this band does seem more like another trendy, sort-of retro, kind-of garage rockist group. --Mike McGonigal

Big Fan.......2006-05-07

This cd is a knockout, hands down one of my new favorite cds. First introduction to caesers was the catchy jerk it out, which was from 39 minutes of bliss and makes another appearance on paper tigers. Easily thier most recognizable and best song. Other monsters are Spirit which is a solid opener, It's Not the Fall That Hurts, May the Rain, Paper Tigers, and in my opinion Winter Song which grew on me. Its hard to say any negatives about this cd because there really aren't any. Those who like the kaiser chiefs, franz ferdinand, the killers and motion city soundtrack should enjoy the caesers in thier sophmore album. A unique blend of garage punk pop by the band from sweden leaves you with songs you wont be able to get out of your head all day. An unrealesed song i suggest checking out is "over before it started", it will leave you wanting more.

A very welcome retro sound.......2006-01-24

This album is for anyone who fell in love with "Jerk It Out" on the iPod commercial. With a poppy, 60's retro, garage sound, reminiscent of the early Beatles, The Caesars deliver a surprisingly fresh collection of tunes. This is exactly the dichotomy that makes The Caesars a welcome addition to that sub-genre of alt rock that seems to be coming around again. Very melodic and very rockin'. A fun disc.

Great Album - Well Worth The Money!.......2006-01-09

Caesar's Palace, The Caesars, The Twelve Caesars - they're all the same group. They go by different names depending on location - Twelve Caesars in most of Scandinavia, The Caesars in North America, and Caesar's Palace in Sweden, most of europe, and the rest of the world.

They currently have five albums:

The Best Album of 2005 Hands Down!!!!! .......2005-12-15

With most all of my reviews I go into intimate detail of how much I love a certain album....what this one song does to me, who it reminds me of, etc., etc. My love for this particular album is SO great that I can't really even conjur up the energy to do that. Like my title says this is the best album of 2005...you take a good long listen to this one and tell me it isn't...I dare you. This is one of the first "now" bands that has made me feel the exact same joy I get from hearing the Beatles, the Byrds, Moody Blues, or even the Ramones. The music here has the exact same quality....retro without being retro? I don't know but "happiness" is the key word here...this album is just pure happiness. You have got to buy this and understand what REAL MUSIC MAKING is all about...then you have to hear a band like Fall Out Boy and shake your head in dismay. My favorite track..."My Heart Is Breaking Down"...if this one dosen't make you feel something...buddy you've got a heart of stone.

Best new album this year.......2005-12-08

There is not a bad track on this cd, it is the best new music I've heard in a long time that brings me back to the sixties garage band era. Being in a garage band myself as a drummer in the sixties, this is one hell of an album. I couldn't stop wanting to dance to it, I really enjoy these guys. If you really want to rock & roll, THIS IS IT!!!!

Paper Tigers is a good effort but if you are a fan of Vocal City (4 stars) and particularly Perfect Lover (5+ stars), you will be somewhat dissappointed in this cd. Those two others are so much better.

I wrote a much more detailed review but this silly review writing feature lost it and now you get the abridged version. Amazon, get it together!

Anatomicly Correct.......2006-10-27

I must say I was plesantly supprised to find a new Luomo cd - ironicly when i started to wonder what he was up to. With that said, this cd is absolutely everything I was hopeing for; just about.

To start, this CD sounds a bit like "The Present Lover", but in actuality I was hopeing it would. That sexy mystery singer is on the majority of this cd and as expected, her vocals are mind blowing. Literally every track on this cd is phenominal and lives up to Luomo's sultry, classy sound he is known for (atleast on this alias). The perfect cd for a lazy afternoon, or really anything. If you like Luomo, this cd belongs in your collection. Im almost tempted to say its just a tad not as good as his previous works, but whenever I listen to this cd in all its magnificience I am thrusted into a state of confusiion and bliss again. You will find yourself humming tracks from this cd without even realizeing it. So ill let you decide. But rest assured, this CD belongs in your collection. Simply amazing.

And whoever the singer is, she needs a nobel peace prize or something. Her vocals are just plain sexy.

A timely re-issue of legendary Minneapolis songwriter's Paul Metsa's debut album. Originally released in 1984 to critical acclaim, Paper Tigers features the eight original tracks plus two bonus cuts.
