A Must-have additon to anyone's music library.......2007-07-11
This recording is positively alive with supercharged energy. It is not only brimming with fine performances from many of the hottest musicians of the time; it serves as proof-positive that white kids can, indeed, superbly play blues and soul music. It captures the raw energy of the ensemble performances of the (then) husband-wife team of Delaney and Bonnie Bramblett, and the exceptional backing musicians who would eventually turn up on the albums of countless other stars for another 20 or more years.
Put it in, turn it on, crank it up, and shake your booty to every tune on the CD (you can't resist going dance crazy, anyway). Don't let this one get by you. Get it while it's still in print.
Finding gold where you'd least expect it.......2007-05-20
I originally bought this album when it first came out. I knew nothing about the record. I'd been a Cream and Blind Faith fan and seeing Eric Clapton's name on the cover caught my eye. I also loved the back and front of the album cover. I got it home and put the needle on the thing and went WOW! It had everything that Rock N'Roll is about. No one knew at that time that we were listing to the birth of Derek and The Dominoes. Bonnie Bramlett's voice is blistering and sweet at the same time. For the next 30 years I could still hear her in my brain saying "Hey would you give us some red lights, 'cause this is a red light song". The album's still in the stack on the top shelf of my closet. I saw it on Amazon and it was time again for "Goin' Home" and "That's What My Man Is For". Order it for yourself. It's rock n' roll 101 taught by finest professor's in rock academia.
College Favorite.......2007-05-19
One of the best live albums, a perfect mix of artists and Music
Ditto..one of the best, maybe the best, live rock album ever.......2007-05-18
What, you say, by some group named Delaney and Bonnie (Bramlett)? Whose biggest fault may have been to risk their own roles by making buddies out of the biggest names in rock and roll such as Eric Clapton, Dave Mason, and so on. The participants here went on to form the core of Derek and the Dominoes (Clapton, Carl Radle from the band Colours, solo artist Bobby Whitlock, drummer Jim Gordon).
Imagine a musical locomotive driven along by the constant chug of some solid soul and rock'n roll. Everything you would want, including the super-session-men horn section of Bobby Keys and Jim Price.
Wait, we forgot about the Bramletts. They never got the recognition they deserved, on their own. Bonnie's vocals were as soulful as anything you could ask for. And Delaney, while perhaps not quite so standout as his beautiful companion, could emote pretty well himself.
You will play this, and play it again, and play it again.
Delaney, Bonnie & Friends, The Rest Of The Story.......2007-04-08
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Delaney & Bonnie and Friends was a group started by Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, which featured the elite session artists of the day, such as Carl Radle, Jim Price, Bobby Keys, Rita Coolidge, Bobby Whitlock, Jim Gordon, Leon Russell, Dave Mason and revolving guest lead guitarists which would include Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Duane Allman and even some appearances with Jimi Hendrix.
Prior to their marriage and collaboration, Delaney had been a well-regarded LA session musician, and Bonnie had the distinction of being the only white Ikette, performing with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. In later years, she turned to acting, appearing most notably on the TV shows "Fame" and "Roseanne", under her new name of Bonnie Sheridan.
In 1970, after Delaney and Bonnie & Friends, Eric Clapton formed Derek and the Dominos, with Delaney and Bonnie members, Carl Radle, Bobby Whitlock, and Jim Gordon as his rhythm section.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I just wanted everyone to know the whole story and the different cast members one might have seen while they were touring. Also notable; is that many of the Derek & The Dominos survivors, ended up becoming Leon Russell's "Shelter People". During this same era, Leon Russell and Bonnie wrote "Super Star" (Originally titled 'Groupie') and went to #1 by Karen Carpenter. Also written during this era, Leon Russell and Eric Clapton's song "Blues Power".
I have had this recording in 8 track, LP, cassette and now compact disc. One reviewer was harsh about the CD quality. IMHO every form I've ever heard, this concert made me WELL PLEASED.

Is a Marilyn Manson studio album like thunder without lightning? The name Manson is synonymous with stage theatrics, and studio albums aren't designed to capture such flashing, ephemeral excitement. That being the case, a live Marilyn Manson album is one step up from a studio disc and one notch down from a concert. This powerful 14-song, 70-minute set actually ends with one studio track, "Astonishing Panorama of the Endtimes" (also on the Celebrity Deathmatch album). Featuring such Manson concert favorites as "The Beautiful People," "The Dope Show," and the band's breakthrough cover of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams," The Last Tour on Earth is incendiary, expletive-strewn, and darkly irresistible. Manson is a commanding performer, though not one for the young or upright, as he spews on about LSD and sex with cops, performs "Antichrist Superstar," and has the audience chanting "We hate love, we love hate!" prior to a particularly raucous rendition of "Irresponsible Hate Anthem." That said, The Last Tour on Earth is an exhilarating outing from one of the '90s' boldest personalities. --Katherine Turman

good Manson CD, but was lacking..........2007-02-27
I am a huge fan of Manson back before he sold out and just about died off......This was a alright CD for a live album, but he used the same stories apparently on every time of doing a live show. If you like Manson, or just want to hear more of his music in general for any reason, go with "Portrait of an American Family" or "Antichrist Superstar", and even Mechanical Animals wasn't too bad
Marilyn Manson: THE LAST TOUR ON EARTH (1999).......2006-09-16
In 1999, Marilyn Manson went on his next tour which was appropriately entitled, THE LAST TOUR ON EARTH TOUR, named after the track "The Last Day On Earth", from his 1998 album MECHANICAL ANIMALS, in which his 1999 world tour promoted.. But Marilyn Manson didn't stop there, for in the same year, Marilyn Manson released his sixth album entitled, THE LAST TOUR ON EARTH, a live album featuring fourteen tracks, where the first thirteen are live performances from the tour. Each song is taken from many of Marilyn's performances from different concerts on the tour. The final track is a new track that was later featured on the CELEBRITY DEATHMATCH soundtrack, as one of the shows theme songs.
INAUGURATION OF THE MECHANICAL CHRIST
A great introduction.
THE REFLECTING GOD
Original version from the album ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR (1996). A great live performance. This song rocks.
GREAT BIG WHITE WORLD
Original version from the album MECHANICAL ANIMALS (1998). This is a great song, but it was never one of my all-time favorites.
GET YOUR GUNN
Original version from the album PORTRAIT OF AN AMERICAN FAMILY (1994). Performing a song from the album that started it all. Great song.
SWEET DREAMS (ARE MADE OF THIS)/HELL OUTRO
Original version of "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This" from the album SMELLS LIKE CHILDREN (1995). This is a great performance, whereas the "Hell Outro" fits into the ending of the song perfectly.
ROCK IS DEAD
Original version from the album MECHANICAL ANIMALS (1998). Also from the original motion picture & motion picture soundtrack THE MATRIX (1998). This is such a classic Manson song. I could listen to this song or this live performance over and over again.
THE DOPE SHOW
Original version from the album MECHANICAL ANIMALS (1998). Great live performance.
LUNCHBOX
Original version from the album PORTRAIT OF AN AMERICAN FAMILY (1994). A great song, to which, I have to say: "Next Motherf***er's Gonna Get My Metal"!!!!
I DON'T LIKE THE DRUGS (BUT THE DRUGS LIKE ME)
Original version from the album MECHANICAL ANIMALS (1998). Great song. I had heard that for the studio version of this song, Marilyn Manson had to be "High" in order to get the right vocal and feel for this song. This is only what I've heard, so I can't verify if it's true or not.
ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR
Original version from the album ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR (1996). Great song.
THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE
Original version from the album ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR (1996). Although this is one of my favorite songs, I wasn't really too impressed with this live performance.
IRRESPONSIBLE HATE ANTHEM
Original version from the album ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR (1996). Great performance.
THE LAST DAY ON EARTH
Original version from the album MECHANICAL ANIMALS (1998). Great performance.
ASTONISHING PANORAMA OF THE ENDTIMES
New Studio Track. Also from the original television series & soundtrack CELEBRITY DEATHMATCH (2000). The first & only single from the album released in 2000. This is the track that was also featured on the soundtrack and television series CELEBRITY DEATHMATCH were claymations of celebrities fight each other. Marilyn Manson was featured twice on Celebrity Deathmatch. First he was in Death Bowl '98 where he fought Charles Manson (coincidentally, Charles Manson's last name is how Marilyn Manson received his last name). The match ended with Marilyn Manson as the winner, where he killed Charles Manson by performing the Tehishan Skull Grip. He appeared later in the episode, by killing off the fighters of the last match. The last match was Spice Girls vs. Hanson. He killed off Spice Girls and Hanson by appearing on the ceiling of the arena, where he used a chainsaw to cut off the ringlights, where the ringlights fell and crushed Hanson and Spice Girls. Marilyn then appeared in another episode in 2000, where he fought country artist Garth Brooks. Manson won again, by taking Garth Brooks' guitar and using it to cut off Garth's skull cap. At that time, Hanson appeared in the same spot as Manson did before and tried to crush Manson with the ringlights, but little Zack Hanson couldn't contril the chainsaw, for it went out of control and killed all three of members of that stupid band. The video for this track featured Manson and his band in Celebrity Deathmatch Claymation form. A great song to close out his live CD.
A worthy complement to Manson's studio work.......2006-06-30
If you are a Manson fan and have not experienced the band live this is a very smart buy. It provides a 1st-hand account of the main artist's larger-than-life and no-holds-barred behavior that wonderfully complements the misanthropy and anarchistic visions of his studio work. Ad libs of the traditional song lyrics, thunderous cheers and chanting from the live crowd, and darkly humorous intros like the "I had a dream last night" skit pull this whole thing together. It's the next best thing to being there, and it's cheaper.
(2.5 stars) Only diehard fans need apply.......2006-04-17
When I saw Marilyn Manson in concert, I was not very impressed. Nevertheless, I picked this album up, expecting great things (it is Manson, after all!) But, unfortunately, these songs don't do much to persuade me about his live show, either.
"The Last Tour On Earth" was recorded in Cleveland (perhaps) and Grand Rapids, Michigan, when Manson was on tour in support of his then latest release, 1998's "Mechanical Animals." But Manson probably would have been better to wait a few years, until after "Holy Wood" was released, because then he could have played some tunes (i.e. "The Fight Song") which were sure to get the mosh-pit swirling. But, as it is, most of this disc isn't all that exhilarating or even entertaining. The songs range from un-hooky ("The Reflecting God") to flat ("Great Big White World") to forgettable ("Lunchbox") to unspectacular ("Sweet Dreams/Hell Outro") to, well, boring ("Get Your Gunn"). Even track twelve, "Irresponsible Hate Anthem," fails to stir up much excitement.
"The Last Tour On Earth" isn't a complete throw-away, however, as there are some bright spots. "Rock Is Dead" has explosive choruses, making it probably the most irresistibly catchy song on here, and "Antichrist Superstar," and "The Beautiful People" are both finely executed, though the latter sounds somewhat rushed.
Next, there are a few OK tracks. The very creepy and ominous introductory song, "Inauguration Of The Mechanical Christ," "The Dope Show" (which is worth mentioning just for the mid-song interlude where Manson sends "a greeting" to the police), and "The Last Day On Earth" are all decent, but far from great.
The last live song worth mentioning on here is "I Don't Like The Drugs (But The Drugs Like Me)." This song is somewhat hooky, but it's utterly ruined by a ridiculously moronic and overly drawn-out intro where Manson tells the crowd (who cheer after every sentence) about a dream he had where drugs became God. He also informs us that, in his dream, the police pulled him over but didn't arrest him; instead they did something obscene to Manson (something which I'm sure Amazon won't let me post, here.)
The very last song, track fourteen, "Astonishing Panorama Of The Endtimes," is a pretty good song/b-side. Some hardcore fans may want to buy this album just to get this song.
With all that said, be careful what you buy. This C.D. is far from being great, but it isn't terrible, either. Thus, it's only recommended to hardcore fans. And for everybody else, "The Last Tour On Earth" serves a purpose; it reminds us that Marilyn Manson sounds awesome...in the studio.

extremely overrated.......2004-08-01
For reasons that I do not understand, Wynton is considered a player of the highest caliber. While his technique would have to seem impressive to most of his fans, in comparison to players such as Phil Smith, Charlie Schleuter, Matthias Hofs, and many other top symphony players, Wynton is completely out of his league. Wynton's interpretations of some of these pieces are laughable in their complete lacking of any sense of direction. Compare his recordings of the Enesco and Hindemith with ones put out by Phil Smith and Charlie Schleuter, amd it is like listening to a student play a piece for his teacher, and then the teacher playing it the way it ought to go. The only valid reason to buy this recording is the great programming. It's just a shame that it is not another trumpet player playing the same pieces.
Some nice moments, but..........2004-06-30
Wynton's playing on this album is, unquestionably, very accomplished and there are some really shining moments -- especially in the Halsey Stevens' Sonata and the Honegger.
As a classically trained trumpet player I must disagree with the other reviewers and point out a number of weaknesses in the playing in this disc. The Poulenc and the Bernstein, the easiest pieces are also the sloppiest. Througout the entire album, save the Chorale at the end of the Hindemith, Wynton uses, in my opinion, excessive and unmusical vibrato -- I feel it especially breaks the mood of the end of the Enesco.
The playing throughout doesn't do much musically interesting and there are better recordings of all the works here. I feel the Hindemith was just rushed through, first and last movements especially. See Charlie Schlueter's "Trumpet Works" on Kleos Classics for a much more musical Hindemith and Philip Smith's self-titled album on Cala Records for better renditions of the Enesco and Tomasi.
Overall, I really liked the program choice and some of the really good moments, but I think you won't find much here that isn't done better elsewhere.
excellent twentieth century repertoire.......2001-01-09
Another recording of Wynton's in which he displays desirable command over his trumpet. Although I wouldn't consider it perfection, he is truly a master of his instrument, and attaining perfection is no mean feat. He starts off with the Ravel, Piece en forme de Habanera, which is an exquisite work, originally written for solo piano, but Mr. Marsalis captures the expression and lyricism of Ravel's composition beatifully.
There is some very difficult music on this album, and Wynton makes it sound natural. The Honegger Intrada is definitely within this category. Mr. Marsalis made it sound so easy that I didn't realize the endurance it takes to play the opening lines until I looked at the music myself. Henri Tomasi is better known to trumpet players for his spectacular trumpet concerto, and he is represented in this list of works with his short and fun Tryptique. The Halsey-Stevens Sonata has become one of my favorite pieces of music with its wonderful thematic material, strong melodies and interesting rhythms. Marsalis is so good that he gets right out of the way and lets the strength of the composition shine, a task well done. Wynton displays strong performances of the Bozza and the Enesco as well, using the Bernstein and the Poulenc as short, fun pieces to provide comic relief from the heavier works found on this disc.
He ends it off with the famous Hindemith Sonata for Trumpet and Piano, a spectacular composition, which Mr. Marsalis plays with command. Wynton displays the intensity involved in this piece more than adequately. Although I somewhat disagree with some of his interpretation of the first movement, the second and third movements are wonderful. The album ends with the segment, Alle Menschen mussen sterben, or, "all men must die". An incredibly slow, incredibly difficult section to play, especially at the end of the entire piece. He pulls it off with control, not so much as even a waver in tone, and his is brilliant. Well done Mr. Marsalis! Aside from picky stylistic disagreements, an excellent collection, definitely recommended.
Great Job, Mr. Marsalis.......2000-05-30
Overall, this CD was excellent. Marsalis displays the art of contemporary music on a good note, playing such works as the Hindemith Sonata for trumpet. Also, from this cd, i learned of the Halsey Stevens Sonata for trumpet, now my favorite piece. Lastly, Wynton plays the Honneger Intrada, which had a section so fast i couldn't roll my toung and keep up...
Good CD.......1999-09-07
I like Wynton's playing on this CD. The only thing I didn't like about the CD was Pièce en forme de Habañera, where Wynton plays both trumpet parts in synchronized recording, it sounds stupid. Otherwise this is a marvelous CD.

While the sales of Sarah Brightman's ambitious, Middle Eastern-themed 2003 album Harem may have fallen short of its predecessor, the veteran UK chanteuse's popularity as a live performer has only mushroomed. This live recording of her ambitious, sold-out Harem World Tour engagement at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Arena is testament to that appeal, begging the question: Will Brightman become the Grateful Dead of classical crossover? Indeed, abetted by the rich sonic textures of longtime producer/collaborator Frank Peterson, the worldbeat conceits of her recent studio recordings are folded into a larger, even more expansive live vision here. Brightman's overt dramatic instincts and oft-chaemeleonic vocal abilities drive a slate of material that stretches from the Arabian Nights/Madame Butterflypastiche of Harem's seductive "It's A Beautiful Day" through surprisingly effective classical/rock reinventions of Kansas' "Dust in the Wind" and
The Moody Blues' chestnut "Nights in White Satin" to expected classical bowings "Nessun Dorma" and the obligatory nod to
"Phantom of the Opera"

AMAZING! She is so much better live!.......2006-12-02
This CD rocks! This is Sarah Brightman on her Harem World Tour, and this performance was recorded at her stop in Las Vegas. The first two tracks, "Kama Surta" and "Harem Overture" debut from her newest album, entitled HAREM. The two tracks are connected, but in the actual Harem Tour, the full piece "Harem" is sung. If you go to www.youtube.com and type in "Harem Tour" in the Search Bar, you can see live videos. I would prefer that the album has placed "Harem" instead of these other two tracks. The third track, "It's A Beautiful Day", is from Madame Butterfly, written by Puccini. This version is Brightman's twist, which some more pop and some English. It's pretty cool. The fourth track on the album, "Dust in the Wind" is from EDEN, an amazing album. Track 5 is, "Who Wants to Live Forever", and it seems as though Brightman never creates a tour without putting this piece in it. It's a beautiful tribute to Queen's rendition. Track Six is "Anytime, Anywhere", also from EDEN. I'm not really into the Foreign Language - English songs, but this works very well, especially because she ends the song with the classical foreign language. The seventh track is Brightman's rendition of Dvorak's "Song to the Moon", or "La Luna". The track is beautiful! The eighth track is Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", and Sarah masters this beautifully! There is no other soprano I know that can sing this piece one octave up and can hold the ending note for ever!!! Track 9 is "The War is Over", which is followed by "Free", both from HAREM. Track 11 is "A Whiter Shade of Pale", from LA LUNA. It's beautiful to listen to. Sarah's version is very gentle, but has a lot of energy in the chorus. The twelfth track on this album is "Twisted Every Way", followed by an instrumental version of "The Phantom of the Opera" Theme. The next track is "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", which is extended at the end, in which you hear some men cry out "WE LOVE YOU SARAH!", and she responds cutely with an, "I love you, too." The audience laughs! Track 14 is "Time to Say Goodbye", the duet that made Andrea Bocelli famous, and skyrocketed as the number one single sold in German history! The last live track on the album is "A Question of Honour", from "Fly", which is awesome! The last track on the album is a bonus track, which I don't really prefer. However, the whole album is simply amazing. I much prefer Sarah when she is live. She has a more magical quality! If you love Sarah Brightman, then you will love this album.
ALSO RECOMMENDED : Since there is so much Sarah Brightman to choose from, I also recommend EDEN, TIME TO SAY GOODBYE, LA LUNA, CLASSICS, and DIVA.

Inspiring, Beautiful and The Sweetest Voice!.......2005-08-21
What an album, absolutly beautiful!
We, the fans of this great artist finelly have in our hands a live album, and it's amazing:
-The voice is totaly live, she sang about 24 complete songs in the show, but the album only contains 15.
-Snow In The Sahara is a lovely song.
If you have the chase of get this alubum, don't doubt and get it; It wond disapoint you!
astounding performance.......2005-06-07
an impeccable concert experience that successfully elevates the album to majestic heights. I had long been a fan of Dead Can Dance and the unparalleled work of Lisa Gerrard. When Sarah Brightman ventured into these Middle Eastern sounds on the Harem disc, I thought it was too derivative of the Dead Can Dance sounds (there is even a sample used on one of SB's songs that had previously been used within DCD).
However, experiencing this epic and intensely mystical concert compelled me to realize the individual and unique glory of Sarah Brightman. Also, this concert is so phenomenally entertaining at many levels that I couldn't help but fall absolutely in love with the special magic of Sarah Brightman. Obviously, the expansive Middle Eastern milieu can accommodate more than one angelic vocalist!
I now consider Lisa Gerrard and Sarah Brightman to be geniuses who both warrant goddess status in the pantheon of lyrical greats. To see either one of them perform live is surely one of the most powerful and memorable sensory experiences one could ever have!
Great, of course.......2005-03-18
Sarah's voice and style are terrific, as usual. However, I have to say that her version of Anggun's "Snow on the Sahara" is fairly bland, especially compared to the original Anggun version. Sarah has the chops but lacks soul on this great song. Everything els here is very nice.

The line between evangelist and entertainer has always been somewhat indistinct. But as showcased on this 43-track, double-disc collection culled from his '87-'96 recordings for Elektra/Nonesuch/Atlantic, Michael Feinstein's dedication to spreading the gospel of the American song often blurs it beyond recognition. While the singer's pedigree for the task is impeccable (a long-term stint as Ira Gershwin's assistant and early career sponsorship by Liza Minnelli), his interpretations often succeed by playing off a tense axis of fervent emotionalism and a joyous sense of irreverence.
If his readings of romantic standards can sometimes tend toward the precious, they're often balanced here by sheer dramatic power and telling insights ("Isn't It Romantic" fairly bristles with ironic chauvinism) and a few loopy curves ("The Mole People," the Sherman Brothers' "The Ugly Bug Ball," and the previously unreleased "Rhode Island Is Famous for You"). Feinstein's dedicated song archaeology is also showcased on several gems: "Violin," a duet with Liza Minnelli; "My Favorite Year," a rejected ballad for the film of that name; the sublime "lost" Gershwin classic "Ask Me Again."
Sprinkled with live performances (the forum where Feinstein's talents seem most energized) and studio outtakes and featuring a lengthy print interview with the singer, the set chronicles both the pioneering efforts of one of pop music's most successful revivalists and, crucially, the cream of his beloved American songwriters, from stalwarts Gershwin, Berlin, and Porter to later legends like Herman, Styne, Lane, Martin, and Mercer. --Jerry McCulley

Mixed feelings.......2005-10-05
This album has some GREAT songs on it; sophisticated swing being one of my favorites. However many of the other songs are too operatic and lame. I give three stars but this album is definatly worth it just for some of the better songs.
Your love for this superb collection will be here to stay..........2002-07-18
The magnificently talented Michael Feinstein has made one wonderful album after another for nearly two decades. Now that Elektra and Rhino have put together this anthology, I am blown away by the versatility and diversity in Feinstein's recorded output. Such amazing rare gems, combined with the most beloved favorites in the history of American Popular Song. Assembled with wit, intelligence, and obvious affection on the part of the record company, this set is a keeper. You'll love it!
He's done it again.......2002-07-15
Is there anything this man can't sing? This collection is so varied as to be the definitive collection of songs for any occassion.
This is perfect background music for a dinner party for a whole group but especially for two. Light, romantic and just gorgeous. You just can't go wrong when Michael Feinstein is your musical choice.
Way to go Michael, you've done it again!
Absolutely 'S WONDERFUL!.......2002-06-10
There are very few contemporary performers who can hold their own with the truly great interpreters of American popular song. Michael Feinstein is truly the ONLY performer of the "younger" generation who really understands what these songs are all about. His incredible knowledge of this music, and his enthusiasm and passion for it have fueled his career. Rhino Records has done a truly outstanding job of putting together an anthology that exemplifies why Mr. Feinstein has become so beloved by audiences around the world. The packaging is excellent, and filled with interesting photos and background information about many of the selections.
This collection not only contains all the favorites one would expect, but a neat group of surprises too. I especially love the duets with people like Liza Minnelli and Rosemary Clooney, and the various collaborative efforts with songwriters like Jule Styne and Burton Lane accompanying Michael at the piano.
This collection is a classic to be treasured. Bravo Michael!
Bravo Rhino!
A beautiful 2 disc CD-another hit for Michael.......2002-06-09
I have every CD Michael has ever made and this is by far one of the best ones because of Michael's range in singing and his wonderful singing voice. I love his duets with Rosemary Clooney and Liza Minelli. He is a wonderful performer on this double CD and am looking foward to the next CD.

just listen... mmmkay!??!.......2006-12-15
The first song is ab-fab and Billy M.'s vocals run up and down your spine with a chorus that will make you want to hit "REPEAT" over and over and over again. But... Who cares? The album starts off with an amazing peice, and then, this short little gem of an album, finishes soft and sweet. Kind of like, well... I am not exactly sure, but, it does. And it is, good/.
Look, I can be some one you can trust if your looking for something new, or maybe you'd like to hear something other than "cookie-cutter".

The keening wail of the pedal steel guitar is such a fundamental part of country music that it's difficult to imagine its being played in any other genre. But Chuck Campbell not only uses it to play a soaring version of African American gospel music, he does it with a virtuosic authority that will redefine the way people think about the instrument. Sacred Steel on Tour collects a dozen live tracks recorded in theaters, clubs, and churches featuring Campbell and his brothers: Phillip, a talented guitarist, and Darick, who plays lap steel. All the performances here are revelatory, but the tracks recorded in churches, where Campbell's playing forms a vital part of a service, are particularly illuminating. On "Scott's Testimony," for example, Campbell offers a wordless but strangely vocal commentary on the sermon. He makes his pedal steel moan, cry, whoop, and holler with an almost human voice. Chuck Campbell is a musician of formidable talent under the best of circumstances, but when the spirit moves him, he enters a rarefied musical realm, where his playing is the guitar equivalent of speaking in tongues. --Michael Simmons
Customer Reviews:
Music with a meaning, a passion, and a purpose.......2002-03-06
The Campbells are a true phenomenon, having played in their father's church for 20 plus years, the band was finally "allowed" to play outside church about 3 years ago. In that time, they've wowed audiences from Morocco to Vancouver, from the Kennedy Center to the New Orleans Jazz Fest.
The music is pure & passionate, untouched by producers, agents, etc. This is music with a purpose, the band's "job" in Church is to get people into a good sweaty groove and then get them to "drift out" of the limitations of the body and allow your spirit to soar.
These aren't songs for a woman, or a man, or for material posesions, these are songs of faith, and hope for a better tommorrow; these are songs of joy and praise.
Church for the Campbells is not a quiet affair, it's a noisy joyous affair, that provides thanks to the powers that be for giving us time on this earth..
This CD was primarily recorded at the House of God, 300 Phelps Rd. in Rush NY...20 minutes outside of Rochester. The band plays most Sundays from noon to two. All are welcomed by the Band's proud father, Bishop Charles Campbell...
Your ears and your soul will love this music !!

Excellent Interpretations.......2007-01-19
While another reviewer has castigated this album by describing what it is not (i.e. a Steve Hackett album), I hope listeners will realize what it is: a uniquely executed interpretation of Genesis music performed by an individual who has intimate knowledge of it. (Stuermer has in concerts faithfully played to Genesis fans the guitar riffs as presented to him without seeking to seize for himself a place within the band or supplant the members for whom he stands in.) I hope others will refrain from judging Stuermer for who he isn't, and I hope that they too hear beautifully rendered glosses on the music of a long-lived band (a band performing long after SH's departure, and even welcoming him back [with Peter Gabriel]). While I do share the afore mentioned reviewers love of Steve Hackett's musicianship (owning all of his solo materials [some in remastered editions]), I also appreciate Stuemer's own treatment of the music he's shared in playing. So I apologize to DS for mentioning others in this review of his work, and encourage others to add his album to their Genesis-related collections as well.
great guitarist.......2005-09-28
well while I have not listened to this album, I know from listening to his stuff with phil, and live with genesis, he is on the same level as hackett, plus he has the jazz, and fusion background that hackett does not, and alot can be accounted for fusion, and jazz is more groove oriented stuff, with alot of chops, and stretching out just like prog rock, but really I love both players styles, but daryl can speed pick anything as fast as hackett, and he writes great songs, look at huis work with phil collins, you can say what you want about pop music and laugh it up about how cheesy it is, when your attitude is cheesy, songs about life and love have a place, and phils music incorporates more styles than one, if you you think this music of 80's genesis, or phils solo stuff well check the sales, the quality of the production, and the well crafted songs, its bolagna you think only heavy music is great, your opinion your intitled to but throwing well structured music into the sucks category, you better wake up and realize the garbage fast food commercial of today compared to the 80's is a large difference, the musicians, and singers are average, they choose to be, or in the case do not have the talents to sing, but can shake there but well, or dress sleazey, and [...] around with men, and women, i am sick of hearing that anything but one style of artist, or music sucks, go get an education in music, study other artists, and music forms your comments about daryl, phil, and 80's genesis, is baseless, and corny, what session are you playing on, have you had any success selling albums, playing before tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands, have you studied music theory well, and can really say steurmer sucks, well then your ear, and mind must reek of hypocrisy, long live great musicians like steve hackett, and daryl steurmer, and great session artists from l.a, and new york like steve gadd, jimmy johnson (bass), michael landau (guitar), dann huff (guitar), abe laboriel sr ( bass), vinnie colaiuta (drums), steve taviglione ( sax) walt fowler (trumpet), and more also world session players, old and new classic jazz, and fusion, prog rock, miles davis, frank zappa, and many others!!!
Exceeded Expectations.......2005-07-11
Order was filled and processed so rapidly, that gratification was indeed instant. Five-plus star rating!
Happy-Happy, Joy-Joy, Regards, Lou
Another side of who?.......2004-07-17
Daryl is not a great guitar player and will never add up to Steve Hackett. Daryl picked all the stupid songs to play to. Avoid this cd and Get Steve Hackett's "Genesis Revisited". Steve Hackett is a WRITTER, a professional player and a true Genesis member that sayed to the true Genesis sound; while, all this guy did was strum strings for the Phil Collins band.
Excellent covers of classic Genesis music.......2004-07-09
The previous review not withstanding, this collection is an excellent collection of instrumental covers from Genesis at their commercial peak. Yeh, all Daryl did was play the guitar for them on tour...but boy can he play! I love genesis and I love this smooth jazzy mix of music that I already love. The tracks however do not lose their rock edge. Smart move, Daryl. An excellent, and may I say respectful, tribute album. This album continues to be one of my top cd's. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys both Genesis and smooth jazz.

a mammoth recording.......2006-02-16
a perfect live analog recording here...i got a copy of the atlantic vinyl release from my uncle's impeccable 70's funk/soul collection. i lit up when i saw george duke's mug on the front, and was thrilled to see perfect vinyl...i was blown away by the quality of the music, and the quality of the recording itself. this one opens up with a giant version of hip pockets. duke, cobham, and scofield stand and deliver a nice snapshot of mid 70's power fusion. you can hear exactly why mid 70's zappa was so perfect when you hear george duke play with other musicians. his contribution was immense. this recording just comes together well. i'd grab up a copy immediately if i hadn't transferred the recording from vinyl already.

We're all well aware of Billy Cobham's talents but this serves at presenting George Duke in his ecclectic pre-Reach For It" stage-the only CD evidance taht I know of."Hip Pockets" and
the John Scofield guitar-whipped "Ivory Towers" make a powerful
starter while the avante-garde synthesizer racket on Duke's own
"Frankstein Goes To The Disco puts the artists current preoccuptaion with bland commercial pop to shame! Not to be ignored is the Sun-Ra-sih rap of "Space Lady"-it's Billy Cobham all over but a whole other side of George Duke, one that we don't see too often these days.A "new colossus" as it were!
THIS ALBUM IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES!!!!!!!.......2001-03-05
I remember hearing this album at my friend's house a few years ago and just being blown away. I have searched every used vinyl store since looking for it to no avail. Finally it's been re-released on CD and I can die a happy man. "Hip Pockets" and "Almustafa the Beloved" rival any jazz-funk-rock fusion songs ever. Cobham's dumming is incredibly intense, Duke's keyboard sounds are revolutionary, Scofield is funky, and Al Johnson is one of the tighest bassists ever. There is some really out stuff on this album that not everyone will like but there are also a few really amazing gems on it. I wish they'd release more of the tapes from this concert! If you buy this album you will not be dissapointed
Not Cobham's best.......2001-03-03
I saw this band live twenty-five years ago and still have the original vinyl. It is a very dated disc and does not reach the level of his first four albums:Spectrum,Total Eclipse, Crosswinds and Shabazz which are classics from the 70's.
Resurrected at last!!!.......2000-10-06
I can't believe this is a 25 year old live analog recording!! Every song is terrific, the European audience is quiet and attentive, and these guys have a fusion sound to transcend any rock-jazz recording I've ever heard. Makes me want to get every George Clinton or Stanley Clarke recording I can get my hands on and lock myself in for a day.
