Editorial Reviews
Another great Melodic Rock import brought to you by NEH Records. ALFONZETTI is a highly powerful melodic unit from Stockholm, Sweden, lead by the truly amazing singer MATTI ALFONZETTI, who for years has been rated as one of Swedens leading hardrock vocalists. He can be heard on albums from JAGGED EDGE, BAMBAMBOYS, SKINTRADE, and others. He plays together with the wonderful guitar by GÖRAN ELMQVIST (BAM BAM BOYS, also renowned producer. He is, among others, responsible for TALK OF THE TOWN's almost classic debut), STEFAN BERGSTROM (SKINTRADE and BALTIMORE), and the amazing rhythm section of JAMIE BORGER (TREAT, TALISMAN) on drums, and NALLE PAHLSON (AB/CD, experienced studio and live performer in Sweden) on bass. ALFONZETTI has created a big rock album, on which you find both heavy rockers like "Im Ready", "No Way Out" and "Blowing Up Detroit" as well as commercial classic hardrock / AOR as in "Better Than Goodbye", "Let Me In", "Out In The Cold" (which can also be found on JAGGED EDGE's second album Fuel For Your Soul, released 1990 by Polydor), and "Angel" which was penned by Matti while he was working with TALISMAN.

YOU CAN'T RETURN OPENED CDs so if I can't return it, perhaps others can
learn from this what can happen when you order online. I thought I was getting the whole CD and when I opened it and put it on, it turned out to have the song Not Ready to Make Nice, one other song and then some video of Not Ready to Make Nice. I checked with a friend who has the album and she said there should be lots of other songs on it. Can you send me the album I thought I was buying?

Album Description
Fully living up to the title of a popular instructional book he once wrote called "How To Make Your Guitar Talk," Nils was the smooth jazz story of 2005, breaking through to audiences across the country with the energetic title track from his Baja/TSR debut Pacific Coast Highway. Hitting #1 on the Radio & Records airplay chart, "Pacific Coast Highway" became the soundtrack of the summer, staying at #1 for seven weeks on its way to being named the most played song in the format in the U.S. and Canada for the year. The guitarist's follow-up single "Summer Nights" remained in the Top 5 for six months on the same chart and became his 2nd #1 hit.Inspired by this success, Nils enters 2007 Ready To Play once again with an exciting new collection that keeps his crisp and edgy electric guitar front and center while expanding his pop, jazz and R&B driven musical palette even further. Confirming his desire to get back out on the road and perform at prominent jazz festivals this summer after playing over 30 concerts last year (including the Lexus Jazz Festival in Newport Beach and the Catalina Island Jazz Trax Festival), his perfect choice for the album's first radio single is the instantly infectious, funky and percussive "Ready To Play." Other key tracks are the optimistic, sensual midtempo number "Just Smile," the dreamy and ambient, wordless vocal tinged "Catnap" (which taps into Nils' fascination with electronic music), the old school soul-inflected funk of "Sunrise On Sunset" and the brash and bouncy, hard grooving "Hi Five."
"The most important thing I learned from the success of PCH," he says, "was that everyone likes a good groove and you've got to make them move. And of course, there's no substitute for a good song with a great melody. That's what I always strive for. If I come up with a strong hook and it starts getting to me, I know I'm on the right track. The most important thing was to make sure Ready To Play featured my best writing and playing from start to finish. I love the fact that it incorporates all of my favorite styles. One of the main reasons I got into jazz was because I loved playing jazz guitar. My pop sensibilities are there in the songwriting, and my R&B background is the force behind all the grooves. All of those elements play a part in making this even a better album than Pacific Coast Highway."
In addition to displaying his powerful and lyrical songwriting and versatility as a guitarist, Nils--who recorded the basic tracks for the album in his fully equipped home studio, located in a very secluded area of Los Angeles--wanted Ready To Play to capture the ensemble energy of his live performances. The 12-track-collection features all of the members of his current touring band: bassist Alex Al, keyboardist Leon Bisquera, drummer Donnell Spencer, Jr., synth player and singer Clydene Jackson and percussionist Oliver Brown. Jackson and Brown are also part of the jazz vocal trio Gravity, whose debut album Nils recently produced.
Other featured first-call sidemen on Ready To Play include bassists Roberto Vally, Dwayne "Smitty" Smith and Reggie McBride and keyboardist Larry Dunn. Some of the colorful background vocals on Nils' sparkling, jazz/gospel-flavored twist on "My Girl" are provided by Carmen Twillie, who sang lead vocals on the classic "Circle of Life" in the film The Lion King.
Born and raised in Munich Germany, Nils picked up his first guitar as teenager. While his first inclinations were to follow the lead of his idols Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, it wasn't until he was introduced to funk music that he was hooked; he spent "endless nights" learning and copying rhythm players like Nile Rogers, Al McKay and Paul Jackson, Jr. "But growing up in Germany," he says, "the chances to become a full time musician were rather slim, unless you wanted to play Top 40 or polkas. The schooling options were either a strictly classical Conservatory or a small private music school."
Moving to L.A. in the mid-80s, he began studying composition, arrangement and film composition. While making inroads into the competitive field of film and television, he got his first job as a teacher at the legendary Valley Arts Music Store; no matter how busy he's become over the years as the various facets of his career--sideman, film composer and now solo artist--have taken off, Nils still loves to give back by teaching young guitarists. While acquiring his current production skills as a studio engineer in the 90s, he started doing sessions as a rhythm guitarist for everyone from Rick Braun to The Temptations and George Benson. Nils contributed as a musician and co-writer of "Keep Rollin'" on Benson's 1998 album Standing Together, and the guitar and vocal legend returned the favor by playing a duet with Nils on Nils' 1998 debut CD Blue Planet; Blue Planet also featured performances by Gerald Albright, Nathan East and the late vocalist Carl Anderson.
Since producing music for the independent film "Beyond The Ring" and working as Music Editor on the Fox sitcom Undeclared, Nils has been Music Editor for the show Weeds for the past two years and has composed for the Independent Spirit Awards for the past three; he is currently scoring a documentary and composing and adding soundscapes for a multimedia DVD project entitled Transmuteo.
"As much as I've loved creating music in the studio all these years, I realized when I started to play concerts and festivals last year that I'd been missing the ying to my yang, so to speak," he says. "It's been a wonderfully validating experience. I've enjoyed the travel and the opportunity to play for so many people who enjoy what I do. That's the reason I started making music in the first place, to communicate, and it's been so enjoyable to bring my music to a wider audience. I'm looking forward to getting out there again, and, like the title of the album says, I'm seriously Ready To Play."
Customer Reviews:
There's no "Sophomore Slump" here...it's a fine follow-up to PCH.......2007-07-01
Second, he uses real musicians, and especially a real DRUMMER. I'm sure there are programmed drum tracks somewhere in the mix on "Ready To Play," but they don't REPLACE the drummer. That's my biggest complaint against Chuck Loeb, and the reason why I never listen to his music.
Finally, he's a guitar player. That's why I buy his CDs. I play guitar, I like the sound of the guitar, and when I buy a CD featuring a prominent guitarist I want to hear virtuoso guitar as the featured instrument, not endless honking and bleating sax solos (Russ Freeman, are you getting any of this?)...
Nils is by no means a "trailblazer"...too many influences worn on his sleeve for that to happen. But the influences are all solid ones and, two albums into the journey, he's slowly becoming his own man. He's the one to watch, folks...
Ready to Play~ Nils.......2007-05-28
Quite an Achievement!.......2007-03-15
Nils has done it again.......2007-03-05
Fresh, pure, smooth........2007-03-04
The title track is a modulating blend of Nils' guitar work, drum play from Ricky Lawson, and bass play fro Alex Ai, Reggie McBride and Roberto Vally, for a catchy tune.
"Just Smile" prompts listeners to do just that with its Fender Rhodes work from Leon Bisquera.
Percussion work from Oliver C. Brown is also present which adds to the subdued vibe that this song will bring listeners.
"Catnap" might make you take a little respite because the sounds and rhythm of the song are just so relaxing. It has bass work from Ai, McBride and Vally, scintillating keyboard work from Han Zermuehlen and Bisquera along with synthesizer work from Clydene Jackson.
"Midnight Breeze" is a calm song that one can picture listening to while reclining on a porch as the wind blows by. This effect is achieved through the keyboard work of Zermuehlen and Bisquera, percussion work from Brown and drum work from Lawson.
All in all, "Ready to Play", by Nils, is a gentle album that will put you in an entrancing mood.

The album that defined an era.......2007-07-10
The album begins with a dramatic intro, which gives way to "Things Done Changed," a well-produced and ironic look back at Biggie's humble roots. "Gimme the Loot" is one of the songs that shows his lyrical genius, where he plays multiple characters in a conversation, creating a classic track. "Machine Gun Funk" is an upbeat, funky cut sampling a song by Lords of the Underground for the hook. On the excellent "Warning," Biggie again plays multiple characters during conversation, before dropping philosophy on backstabbers and issuing threats. The title track follows accordingly, as does the original mix of "One More Chance," a song to a woman about their relationship (the more popular remix is not included on the tracklist). Perhaps my favorite song is the Method Man collaboration "The What," a song where the two depressed MCs drop some dark knowledge and philosophy over a great beat. It doesn't get much better than having two of New York's finest rappers over a solid 1994-styled beat. "Juicy" is an absolute classic, an emotional and effective rags-to-riches look at his upbringing, effectively sampling an 80s R&B hit by Mtume. Another of my favorites is the hopeful "Everyday Struggle," which is blessed with the nicest beat on the album, a sunny, clever production over which Biggie recounts the troubles of trying to get by. "Me & My B..." is a humorous and enjoyable tune, followed by the unforgettable hit "Big Poppa." This song has a perfect, Isley Brothers-sampling beat, a head-nodding funker, and shows the humorously seductive BIG at his finest. The well done "Respect" and catchy "Friend of Mine" are worthy deep-album cuts, and the DJ Premier-produced "Unbelievable" has an unforgettable chorus and production. The album closes with one of his most stunning works, "Suicidal Thoughts," a depressing insight of life from a suicidal person.
Overall, "Ready to Die" is inspiring, beautiful, and immensely entertaining. This album doesn't sound like it has aged a bit, and even thirteen yeras later sounds as fresh and incredible as the day it dropped. Listeners of any age should be able to appreciate this masterpiece, it's so consistent that there's not one piece of skip material over seventeen tracks. Unarguably one of the finest hip hop albums ever, I cannot recommend it any higher.
Today, the black covered "Remaster" is the only version in print as far as I know, because last year some lawsuits emergedo over sampling issues. The remaster includes two bonus tracks, "Who Shot Ya?" and "Just Playing," both worthy additions to the tracklist. Also, the DVD is a welcome bonus, with videos and live performances. It's a pretty nice package for a good price.
Biggie's Best!.......2007-04-09
The Album That Set The Year '94 (Rating: 10 out of 10- -5 stars).......2006-12-14
The album is excellent too. A lot of these songs are about drugs, robbing, and what not. Big was just rhyming about things that he went through before he had a record deal, trying to survive and eat. Who could blame him? "Give Me The Loot" is one of those songs about his struggles (some words were edited in this song. I'm pretty sure rhyming about robbing a pregnant woman was going to gain some negative attention). "Machine Gun Funk" is self explanitory on how a good song it was. "Warning" was a short song and video about people targeting him for his money. "One More Chance" is a great song about how he gets his females. The song would be remixed and made into a video a year later, but both versions sound great.
Guest appearances are only one. Method Man, back when his rhyme skills were phenomonal, would rhyme on "The What". Classic track if you ask me.
Production was by Mr. Cee, Puff Daddy, and Easy Mo Bee. True, Puffy might be the "king of beat jacking" and what not, but he did a damn good job with them. The Isley Brothers "Between The Sheets" would be made into the classic single "Big Poppa" was one of them.
This album was pulled off the shelves earlier of this year, because of unauthorized sampling on this album. But recently I've seeing it back on shelves. I guess it got settled. I bought this back in 2003 when it had the origonal white album cover. If you purchased this in 2004, you get the album with a few extra tracks like the more popular "One More Chance (Remix)". And you get the DVD with all the videos that came from this album. This album had a heavy impact in 1994, is a classic and is a must have for any hip hop collection. Most of these songs are rehashed into choppy verses on his postmothous albums unfortunately. But this is where most of them origonally came from. Biggies legacy helped influenced a laundry list your favorite rappers today, who bite his style. That alone should explain how this impacted hip hop. Word.
Rest In Peace Biggie Smalls

There's no better example of American pop culture's hall-of-mirrors ethos than producer Alan Carr's relentlessly buoyant 1978 film adaptation of the stage musical Grease. Inspired by that decade's rampant 50's nostalgia, it now paradoxically evokes the campy 70's excesses that spawned it. That sense of recycled decades in collision is underscored repeatedly on this deluxe, double-disc Grease-fest, especially on the set's second disc of bonus materials that spans vintage singles of the title track (its instrumental B-side) and "Greased Lightnin'," some sing-along karaoke tracks, and a handful of alternately slick/techo-savvy remixes (originally produced for the film's 20th anniversary) that are testament to its enduring, era-defying appeal. The original soundtrack itself has been treated to a stellar digital remastering that fills disc one, and remains a joyous monument to camp, sheer ambition, and exuberant nostalgic illusions. Includes a slip-cased, double-fold-out case and new booklet with complete song lyrics. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

Prepare to be transported to Summer Nights.......2006-03-26
This album has not only captured the spirit of the movie but the essence of a 1970's version of the 1950's. I have seen this play live and yes some things are different. Yet I grew up on the movie. I even find myself singing some of the songs now and then. Of course you will never see me singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." However I do keep this in my car as great driving music. This album is not you can pick apart and say things like missing songs, in the wrong order etc. It sounds and feels just right. There will be many versions yet this one is the Grease - Deluxe Edition [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [SOUNDTRACK] gives you more information about each of the tracks allowing you to feel that you have inside information and to feel that you know more of what went into the making of each song.
Great Soundtrack & Fun Extras from an Enduring Musical........2004-07-06
Track 1 on the Bonus Disc is an instrumental version of the film's theme, "Grease", written and produced by Barry Gibb. Frankie Valli's voice has been replaced by a saxophone. The chorus is vocal, but the voices are not those in the original song. You could use this as a sing-along version, as it would be easy to sing over the sax. Tracks 2-5 are officially sing-along versions. "Summer Nights" includes the chorus vocals from the film and sounds good. "You're the One That I Want" has new chorus vocals of questionable merit. "Sandy" is a new arrangement. It's not as good as the film version, but you can sing along. Track 6 is the single version of "Greased Lightning" that you may have heard on the radio back in the day. It's differs from the original in that the bad words have been replaced for radio airplay. Tracks 7-8 are previously unreleased instrumentals from the film. "Greased Up and Ready to Go" is lively. Tracks 9-10 are mixes that I occasionally hear on the radio. The "Grease Megamix" and the "Grease Dream Mix" are fun, if awkward. Tracks 11-12 are Martian Remixes of "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want". They retain the original vocals, but set them to a Latin rhythm. They make pretty good dance tracks.
This 2-disc set isn't in a jewel case. The case is paperboard with 4 panels that fold out. This is inside of a clear vinyl slip case on which the tracks are written. This isn't convenient packaging. On the bright side, the case won't crack in the mail. Tucked inside one of the panels is a booklet that contains lyrics and credits.
The "Grease: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a terrifically fun soundtrack to one of the all-time great movie musicals. And for all those preteen girls who go wild over the movie with each new generation, the bonus material is perfect for parties and horsing around.

As formula-satisfying as most of his soft, soulful contemporary jazz is, Walter Beasley allows himself the luxury of branching out. On Ready for Love, the alto saxophone veteran goes on his first reggae outing, "She Moves Me," which with its synth trimmings won't sell any package trips to Jamaica, but still should appeal to his fans. Beasley also continues to find his comfort zone as a singer, channeling Curtis Mayfield via singer William DeVaughn and his 1974 hit, "Be Thankful for What You've Got." Beasley's cast of collaborators is large--eight producers are credited--but at this advanced stage in his career, people know what he wants and custom-deliver it to him. --Lloyd SachsCustomer Reviews:

"Free" opens with vocals from Tiffany Davis. The song then blends in Beasley's indisputable alto saxophone work along with drum work from Lil' John Roberts and Anthony Nelson Steele.
"La Nina" has Beasley echoing the genius of Kenny G on the alto saxophone, along with more intricate drum work from Roberts and Steele, buffeted by smooth percussion work from Ricardo Monzon.
"Be Thankful For What You've Got" has masterful keyboard work from Beasley, Steele, Dow Brain, Phil Davis, James Lloyd and Orville Wright. The title track has whimsy sounds accompanied by more keyboard work and the dulcet strains of Beasley on the sax.
To sum up, "Ready For Love", by Walter Beasley, is the perfect album to turn on when you want to get just the right affectionate response.(S.N.Kent)

Biggy Smalls is the Illest...........2007-07-12
Puff brought Biggy to the masses with the singles "Juicy" and "Big Poppa". Biggy filled in the rest of the gaps in with tales of life in the streets. He had a voice that sucked you into his lyrics and brought life to his words. Songs like "Warning" and "Me & My B.." show off Biggy's great ability to bring stories to life. Who can forget the line "wiped the cold out my eye". How detailed is that? If you want pure lyrics, Biggy gives that to the listener on songs such as "The What"w/Method Man and "Unbelievable" produced by DJ Premier.
In my opinion, this is the greatest rap cd ever by the greatest rapper. Biggy just had that thing that the others artists could not duplicate. He had a crazy flow and combined that with the ultimate presence. Jay-Z picked up on that same swag and ran with it after Big died. Ready to Die is a classic and a must for any real cd collection. This album started Bad Boy's dynasty and B.I.G.'s rein as the King of New York and rap. Biggy Smalls is the Illest.....

VICTORY REVIEW; ACOUSTIC MUSIC RESOURCE OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST; TOM PETERSEN
"Karen Marie Garrett is a top-drawer pianist headed for bigger things. Allure of Sanctuary is the Olympia artist's third release, following a straight classical disc and another in this New Age vein. This new release is as soothing as it's intended, but it's also energizing. Where a lot of New Age is so light it begins to drift and grow unidentifiable, Garrett's compositions are distinct, with melodies for the listener to hook into. It's billed as New Age, but several cuts qualify as Light Jazz - very mellow Vince Guaraldi, perhaps. Thus, Garrett is a distinctive new artist in this field and could, with the right promotion, see herself at the top of the New Age charts (Allure is already getting significant airplay on Easy Listening stations). It won't hurt a bit that she is a pupil of the founder of the New Age genre, Will Ackerman; nor do dead-enders get invited to record their albums at Skywalker ranch, using Lucas's Bluthner grand!
Get this album, neighbors - you can say you "knew her when."

The CD begins with "Tip-Toe Dancer (Kathryn's Song)," one of the lighter pieces in this collection. It was inspired by a story told by a close friend about a childhood dance performed for friends and family. Graceful yet playful, it is easy to imagine the seriousness of the young dancer and the warm reception of the adults. "Lake EWOK Muse" is an improvisational duet for piano and cello that followed a sunrise meditation beside Lake EWOK at Skywalker Ranch, where the album was recorded. The feeling of serenity envelops you as you listen to the two artists interact seamlessly, creating a perfect sense of peace. "Simple Things" is a celebration that begins in a classical style reminiscent of a children's piano study and evolves, retaining the sweet melody and simplicity of the message but becoming a full and graceful solo. The title track is fascinating. It begins with a mournful piano prelude and becomes a rhythmic dance with a seductive Spanish flavor. Susan Whittle's vocals and percussion provided by Will Ackerman and Derrick Jordan add to the enchantment. "Will's Song" is an improvisational piece that is so deeply felt that it almost sends a chill - what a beauty! "Toll of War (Adagio)" is a wrenching duet for piano and cello. A profound statement of humanity rather than of politics, the sense of loss and pain reach to the depths of the soul. This is a piece that needs to be heard. The gentle, pensive closing track is a solo piano reprise of "Lake EWOK Muse."
"Allure of Sanctuary" is a must-have CD!

A vibrant tribute to MGM's legendary confluence of brains, talent, hard work, ambition--and dare we say it?--massive egos, Singin' in the Rain long ago took its rightful place among the first rank of the studio's dizzying catalog of film musicals. This double-disc, 46-track 50th-anniversary edition features all of the film's familiar songs, as well as numerous outtakes and extended versions, many culled directly from the film's original recording masters. Its second disc also chronicles the film's clever--if studio imposed--self-referential musical gambit of recycling a slate of Arthur Freed/Nacio Herb Brown songs from Metro's first decade by including 14 of the originals, including performances by Jeanette McDonald, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, and Freed himself. Featuring a dozen previously unreleased recordings and an illustrated booklet containing the insightful reminiscences of the film's original writers, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, it's the ultimate musical companion to one of cinema's magical, enduring masterpieces. --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description

YOWZAH!!!.......2007-06-29
Outstanding.......2007-01-10
And this is one of he best album made by one of the best trumpet player in jazz history
One of those sessions.......2006-03-21
Hubbard himself was definitely one of the leading trumpet man of the Sixties - participating in Out To Lunch, Empyrean Isles, as well as his own Open Sesame, Breaking Point, Hub Tones).
On this session every second COOKS ! It may have been the Euphonium of Bernard McKinney who pushed everyone to give something extra, or just a great feeling they all had entering the studio together, taking refuge from the outside world which, in 1962, was not an easy place for these great people.
Just the cd to get - if you are looking for great energy, beautiful compositions, and solos by Shorter and Hubbard who are at their peak !
