4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2006-05-16

Nothing special I mean, Knut Schreiner could very well be my favorite guitarist of all time, but like the other Euroboys albums, this one comes off as too derivative, and a good listen if your super high or in the right mood, but otherwise you won't be listening to it too much. Musically impressive, but nothing insane.

5 out of 5 stars amazing...............2005-03-09

The Euro Boys (a.k.a. Kare and the cavemen) are an amazing group their music just flows. This a great cd you should buy it.I just can't believe more people haven't heard of these guys,
so underrated it should be illegal.

5 out of 5 stars EURO BOYS:The Best Instrumental Band On Planet Earth.......2002-06-01

hands down, the best current instrumental pop band. snagging the best elements of pop, soundtracks, surf, easy listening, exotica, rock and roll, etc etc. both "jet age" and their 2nd cd/lp "long day's flight till tomorrow" are absolutely phenomenal! excellent songwriting, excellent musicians - (NO 2 BARRE CHORD [JUNK]), and no [dumb] vocals either. by far the greatest instrumental pop band on earth, and of course, ignored by millions everywhere. BRAVO!, EURO BOYS!! thanks for the great music!

5 out of 5 stars Groovy guitars.......2002-04-18

No vocals, groovy guitars and a seventies feeling makes this record a great buy.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as Sumo.......2006-11-01

It is a shame this does not include the bonus live disc, as they sound so much better live. This album sounds too over produced and Sarah's vocals don't match that on Sumo. The song writing is not of the same high standard, but there are enough good songs on this record to make it worthwhile for any fan. Sarah is a rock chick through and through and it is a shame the band has now split up.

5 out of 5 stars Great music from Down Under...............2006-02-26

Hello. Im Clownboy from the WIBANDS TOUR in Wisconsin, U.S.A. I lead a tour of people that go see bands and check out CDs. After purchasing "Jet Age" from SUPERJESUS I was blown away. The album is tight and full of energy!! "Gravity" is a mystical & sexy song that has radio play all over it. Sarah's vocals are amazing and powerful. One of my favorite CDs. Id love to see SUPERJESUS live!! www.wibands.com

4 out of 5 stars Even Yanks dig it!.......2001-09-20

I discovered this band while watching "bluetorch tv" on fox sports net. I was immediately captivated by them. This is one fo those CD's where every track is listenable, and a few are just awesome. I reccomend it for good "middle of the road" listening. Not too hard, not too soft. Nice melodic rock, catchy lyrics, with an occasional edge. I REALLY wish they would come to America, but not bloody likely!!

Also, check out their website: superjesus.com.au

5 out of 5 stars Great Album.......2001-06-09

If you're looking for the music that gets through to you - look no further! Jet Age is a strange mix of powerful and creative guitar riffs with beautiful and touching vocals. A true follower of the great Ausie music legacy. A definate MUST HAVE!

4 out of 5 stars Decent follow-up to "Sumo" by Aussie band Superjesus.......2001-04-20

"Sumo" and "Sumo II" with the extra goodies were great CD's, and "Jet Age" almost succeeds on the same level. Gone is Chris Tennant, guitarist and songwriter from the first record, and his input is sorely missed. But Sarah McLeod's vocals are still as strong as ever, and she delivers the new material well. It is tough to find good new rock bands anymore because of all the drivel that gets shoved down our throats and in our ears by the record labels and their BoyBands du jour. But Australia comes through for us again! Like what you hear with this band? Give a listen to Mourning Widow's CD "Furnished Souls For Rent", the new CD featuring Nuno Bettencourt, former Extreme axe-man (and husband of Suze DeMarchi, the former lead singer of Baby Animals -- perhaps the best rock band out of Australia in years!!)

5 out of 5 stars The gooey center of Marshmallow Pop!.......2007-01-17

After seven years of listening to this collection, I'll repeat my original review from 1999:

"This CD is one of the most lovely and tasty pop confections I've ever heard. Rich, creamy cover versions like "Barbarella" and tart originals like "I am a Kitten" are the stuff of pop heaven. And to think this is 90's music. Kites are fun, indeed!"

Go listen to Mancini and Francois Lai - they are giants. This collection is for lovers of modern pop which has the feel of the sixties.

2 out of 5 stars Lousy and crude attempt to capture a genre...................2004-09-24

This is a desparately weak collection of clumsily produced kitsch wannabe pap. A couple of the instrumental only tracks nearly work (hence the generous two stars), but the vocal tracks are truly lousy. Really disappointing if you are a looking for any subtlety - best look somewhere else. Try Michel Legrand, Francis Lai, a bit of Mancini perhaps....the originals are unbeatable, so why try to get anywhere near them with this dire pastiche? Caveat Emptor!

Update: It's now 9/2006 and it still sounds grim!

3 out of 5 stars The first in a series. Tune in, chill-out, and swing........2004-06-15

The first of three 'Songs For The Jet Set' CD series, all in all, lounge music to sooth the soul and calm the senses. For what it's worth, a nice compilation of breezy jazz-like tunes, quaint and delicate, with a touch of swinging Euro-kisch. The songs tend to alternate between Burt Bacharach's aural-prozac and shuffling bossanova rhythms (with Astrud Gilberto-ish vocals) and a coating of fluffy Brian Wilson/Sean O'Hagan type arrangements. Thrown into the mix are the cloud-flights of The Fifth Dimension, Stereolab's doo-wop harmonies, and kischy guitar grooves. The songs go from inducing a romantic cool to hipster suave, the soundtrack to catch gentle Parisian breezes while sitting at an outdoor cafe.

4 out of 5 stars Makes you cooler just listening to it.......2002-04-26

I first found out about this CD from exploring music that is similar to Fantastic Plastic Machine. It drew my attention because of its swinging cover art. I'm glad to say that the music is just as fun and breezy as the cover, but unfortunately it's a bit on the short side. (about 35 minutes) Def. buy if you like FPM, Pizzicato 5, or neo-Lounge/kitsch in general. Don't bother looking in those giant music stores for it, either. They're not hip enough to carry it.

5 out of 5 stars Inspired.......2002-01-01

A low-fi simple collection of inventive and catchy songs. CD moves from symphonic to bossanova and 60's soundtrack feel, crescends into wall of sound with an epic ending! The production is lacking, however this ambitious effort does not go unappreciated!! While I admit, I never really got into Vol. 2 which followed this CD, Songs for the Jet Set is a refreshing little odyssey compared with all the stuff being churned out by record companies to look like them... definitely worthy of regular rotation and listening. The kitsch factor of their own Fantastic Everlasting Gobstopper theme woven into a more traditional choral and bossanova vocals and classical guitar definitely makes this CD more than pretty wallpaper. Most notably, the songs are timeless and stand on their own. Truly warped at times alternatively brilliant, this CD's innocence and attention to melody is refreshing. It seems like once people hear it in my car, it's instantly one of their favorite cds and I am lucky if I can keep my copy. I'd say if you like the feminine quirkiness of Bjork, the edginess of the indie low-fi rock, and/or the intelligence of Thievery Corporation, this cd may be one of your favorites.

5 out of 5 stars one of my personal favorites.......2005-02-05

If you're still looking for this album, you should spend the $25 bucks or whatever the fool who wants to sell their copy is asking for it. As soon as I heard these guys and moshed while they kicked hay at the crowd at MSU's Erickson Kiva, I was hooked. Their shows were incredible. Dan Miller's new band Blanche is great, strange, and entertaining as well. Check them out. I never tire of this or the Complete Works. Brilliance.

5 out of 5 stars Yay or Nay?.......2003-10-08

Either this is genius or the biggest load of crap i've ever heard! In the meantime though, because I like it a LOT, I will give this 5 stars.

4 out of 5 stars For One Brief, Shining Moment..........2002-02-08

... the world enjoyed the genius of Goober and the Peas. The studio recordings never matched the energy of their live performances, which for my money, still rank among the best shows I've ever seen. I saw them quite by accident at the Khyber Pass, in Philadelphia, on a night when the Rev. Horton Heat failed to show up due to car trouble. Goober and the boys were hanging out following a gig at another club, and when they learned that the Rev. was a no-show, Goober bribed the club honchos to let them play. Out of nowhere, this band of urban cowpokes took the stage, and with a burst of electric guitar and fistfuls of hay, these blokes blew the room away with their signature tune, "Funky Funky Cowboy!" What a night. Buy the CD and pray for the reunion tour.

5 out of 5 stars a great band, a great album, a sad ending.......2002-01-24

They are better off in Michigan, don't you know.
I own two copies of this CD and am tempted to buy a third. Jump ship gives a feel for the live show. Cordially Invited gives a feel for the demented and perhaps genius of the band. Junior, Doc, Goober and Shorty (and Hoss for those who are familiar with the old school goober. Back in the days when Goober would be frightened by unexpected applause) play smartly and originally to some of the best alternative cow funk ever recorded. Honestly for fans of They Might be Giants or Too Much Joy this is a must buy. If anyone hears of a goober reunion or perhaps of the band Two Star Tabernacle - also featuring Dan "goober" Miller -- e-mail me please!

5 out of 5 stars I am starting to tear up .......1999-08-04

This is perhaps the greatest CD in my collection of 500+. Just like Ol' Goob sittin' on his rockin' chair, some of these songs just bring out the tears of emotion & joy. A live appearance by Goob & His Peas would never disppoint. It was truly a sad day when we learned of their demise that fateful night at Rick's in East Lansing. These geniuses (margin of error +- 66%) were way before their time and their "influence" can be heard in the music of BR-549 and Cake. I am not sure what happened to cause them to break up, but they certainly never got their just due. As danzig2@hotmail.com so eloquently put it, they were the best. I particularly respected the guitarist Junior. This was a true gentleman like no other. Whenever the Peas would need a new drummer (which happened about once a month or so) he would file Guardianship papers to take these often under-age phenoms on the road. I also owe the discovery of my chronic psoriasis of the scalp to them. Cheers Ol' Goob, wherever you are! (make sure to check out The Complete Works of Goober & The Peas and the very special limited edition Christmas album they have as well)

Album Description

The late 60's weren't all rock and roll - this album brings Hollywood together with the Faith orchestral treatment, starting with "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head," an essential Bacarach tune for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." The second track brings Faith's touch to the theatrical smash film "Midnight Cowboy" by John Barry. There is a wistful treatment of "Come Saturday Morning" from "The Sterile Cukoo" and many more. The next tracks hail from the same year, and include the opportunity to hear "Easy Rider" with the female chorus, where it is instrumental in "Held Over." Same with "Raindrops" - and a different tune is included from "Midnight Cowboy," "Everybody's Talkin'." (Bill Halvorsen)

5 out of 5 stars "twenty-two classic arrangements of the '70s ~ Percy Faith".......2004-07-05

Now Percy Faith enters the '70s with "Held Over! Today's Great Movie Themes", originally released by Columbia Records in 1970 (CS 1019) featuring some of the favorites "film-score-buffs" cravings ~ let's begin with "AIRPORT LOVE THEME" (Alfred Newman), "ANNE OF THE THOUSAND DAYS"(theme)(Georges Delerus), "BALLAD OF EASY RIDER" (Roger McGuinn), "COME SATURDAY MORNING" ("The Sterlie Cuckoo") (Dory Previn/Fred Karlin), "JEAN" ("The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie") (Rod Mckuen), "MIDNIGHT COWBOY" (John Barry), "PATTON THEME", (Jerry Goldsmith), "RAINDROPS KEEP FALLIN' ON MY HEAD"("Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid"-film) (Hal David/Burt Bacharach), "THE TEME FROM "Z"(To Yelasto Pedi) (Mikis Theodorakis), "TRUE GRIT" (Donald Black/Elmer Bernstein), "WHAT ARE YOU DOING THE REST OF YOUR LIFE" ("The Happy Ending"-film) (Marilyn Bergman/Alan Bergman/Michel Legrand) ~ once again Maestro Faith delivers signature lush instrumentals blended with breathtaking arrangements ~ and delivers he does, crank up the stereo, you're in for an amazing ride!

And now for the second half of the disc "Leaving On A Jet Plane", originally released on Columbia Records in 1970 (CS 9983) ~ featuring his brilliant orchestra and chorus with the hit tunes of the day ~ "BALLAD OF EASY RIDER" (Roger McGuinn), "COLOURS" (Donovan Leitch), "EARLY IN THE MORNING" (Mike Leander/edward Seago), "EVERYBODY'S TALKIN'" (Fred Neil), "LEAVING ON A JET PLANE" (John Denver), "LET GO(Canto de Ossanha)" (Baden Powell/Norman Gibel/Vincius DeMoraes), "RAINDROPS KEEP FALLIN' ON MY HEAD" (Hal Daivd/Burt Bacharach), "SOMETHING" (George Harrison), "WANTING YOU" (Jack Fulton), "WEDDING BELL BLUES" (Laura Nyro), "YESTER-ME, YESTER-YOU, YESTERDAY" (Ronald Miller/Bryan Wells) ~ reminiscing back to the '70s with all vocal arrangements for a sixteen chorus group, which graced so many of Mr. Faith's recordings ~ not to mention his thirty five musicians that have been with him these many decades.

Faith continued working right up until his death in 1976 at his Los Angeles residence ~ recorded on the following labels with the number of albums and their label (76 Columbia, 37 Collectables, 8 Sony, 5 Sony Special Product, 5 Taragon, 4 Ranwood, 2 Time Life) ~ check out Amazon.Com see if they are still available ~ cause your in for the musical experience of your life...gotta love it!

5 out of 5 stars Percy Faih Held Over/Leaving On A Jet Plane.......2004-05-03

These albums by mastro Faith are very different and sound great on cd.Held Over is just instrumental and Leaving On A Jet Plane is all Vocal with Faith's mixed chrous.Faith used a light string contingment on Held Over and even lighter on Leaving On A Jet Plane. These albums are even more unique for another reason. They contain very different versions of the same songs.
Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head is instrumental on Held Over and done vocalley on Leaving On A Jet Plane.Easy Rider is instrumental on Raindrops but vocal on Leaving. Also Faith's version of Leaving On A Jet Plane is beautiful and got a lot of play on beautiful music stations in the 70's.I highley recommend this cd as well as the other new Faith cd's Music For Her,Those Were The Days/Romeo and Juliet,Swing Lo/A Look At Monoco and Country Bouquet/Disco.Collectibles next Faith cd will be a cd of Faith singles that has never been released from 1950 and 1951.No date yet but it should be posted soon.

    Customer Reviews:

    1 out of 5 stars Rancid.......2007-01-10

This review is exactly the same review that I gave for Peter Malick's CD called "Wrong Side Of My Life." Both CD's are pathetic excuses for music. Do not waste your time or money.

Believe it or not, I am a huge fan of Peter Malick and his work. His efforts and skills on two more recent CD's called "New York City" and "Chance and Circumstance," are remarkable. On these, his guitar work is among the best I've ever heard. The overall song quality and the sound production on these two CD's is phenomenal. I liked "New York City" and "Chance and Circumstance," so much that I would have bought anything that involved Peter Malick at that point. However, that was certainly a mistake. I am just so glad that I listened to "New York City" and "Chance and Circumstance," before I bought "Wrong Side of My Life" and "Sons of The Jet Age."

However, once again, it begs the age-old questions. What is it that makes a song good? How can someone do such fascinating, brilliant, and genius-type work on one or two CD's, and then just absolutely stink the place up on two others? How did the Rolling Stones (as young kids) produce the Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers albums, but then struggle to ever produce anything like them ever again? How did Michael Schenker do his best songwriting and guitar playing as a young teenager, then sink to the point of anonyminty after that? How did Led Zeppelin (as young kids) produce such a high volume of quality albums for their first six, then fall flat on their face (and don't give me the Bonham death excuse, because that don't cut it)?

Here is the good news. In the case of Peter Malick, there is still hope. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because "Wrong Side of My Life" and "Sons of The Jet Age" were his first two attempts. Peter's most recent work is his best work, and hopefully he will stay on track from here.

5 out of 5 stars Watch out for this 'un.......2000-05-02

Produced hot and loud, like a cross between J. Geils and Mott the Hoople. Man, can these guys play! One of the best albums of 1999 - wish I'd known about it long before today.

    5 out of 5 stars Smokin' R&B Debut.......1999-10-02

Peter Malick has teamed with Amyl Justin to form an R&B smoke house! Tapping Malick's incredible guitar licks with Justins formidable vocal powers, the Malick/Justin Band is sure to please~catch them live for an even better thrill!!

    5 out of 5 stars Hellooooo Handy......................1999-08-28

Authentic lyrics, impassioned lead guitar and soulful vocals make this cd a MUST HAVE. Their lively rendition of "You Are My Sunshine" gives new appeal to an old classic. From the dazzling lead guitar in "Dark Side" to the propelling rhythm in "All Alone" you will find it difficult to choose a favorite !! A collection of rock/blues like you've never heard (but always wanted to). It leaves only one question...how can they possibly "top" this one?

4 out of 5 stars Malick and Justin rock!.......1999-08-18

"Sons" is rockin'!! I tend to put on the blinders, and I've been really into hard-core blues for a while, but this crosses into R&B and roots-rock, and I love it! "Dark Side" is one of my early favorites... Malick's playing on this song is far different than what I was expecting. I think I had "Malick played with Otis, Muddy, etc..., in my head, so I wasn't expecting the more melodic stuff. It's really great!

Also, about Justin's singing... WOW!! Now, I have his CD that he recorded with Kid Bangham, and I saw them together at the Winter Island Blues festival. Now I love Bangham's Texas-style blues (I'm a BIG fan of Jimmy Vaughan's playing), but I have to say, Amyl's vocal style fits so much better with the the material on "Sons." You can really hear the gospel and R&B influences in his voice.
