It was only a matter of time before SpongeBob Squarepants became a star big enough to pull off a concept album. Where so many other megawatt celebrities, be they living and land-based or fictional and sea-dwelling, can get all high-minded and grand when cobbling together a theme for their music, though, our man Sponge proves he's as humble and porous as ever on The Best Day Ever, a 26-track bonanza that delivers us into WH2O studios for a "live broadcast" from Bikini Bottom. Under the phony programmatic direction of snazzy DJ Al Bacore (get it?), SpongeBob & the Hi-Seas--a motley assemblage of characters including Plankton, Squidward, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Pearl, and Sandy--trot out 13 songs between often gut-busting station-based interstitials (in one, hapless caller Patrick can't figure out he's supposed to turn down his radio to hear). The music and lyrics, if not the intentionally doofusy vocals, are inspired: Brian Wilson (how did they get him to agree to this?) sings backup on "Doin' the Krabby Patty," Flaco Jimenez lends Latin flair squeezebox-style on "Barnacles!," and Tommy Ramone of the Ramones hammers out a punkish percussive number on "Ridin' the Hook." Through it all, even when he's baring his soul in a heartwarming serenade to his tighty whiteys, SpongeBob's nice-guy persona sets a friendly, happy tone: the mood, loud and clear as a seal's bark, is pure best-day-ever celebration; the master of ceremonies works his yellowness, squareness and general dim-wittedness to masterful effect. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description

The Best Album Ever!.......2007-05-27
The next song is "Employee Of The Month". This is pure power-pop. The Who circa 1966 meets The Turtles.WOW!!!
"Under My Rock" is sung by Patrick. This is classic garage-rock. Rave-up at the end reminds me of The Count Five.
"My Tighty Whiteys" is simply the best song and best production that has been released since the hey day of the Brill Building. Again...this seems simple but it's super sophisticated! My vote for best bridge since "Wouldn't It Be Nice?". Andy Paley and Tom Kenny are a great writing team! This is what's missing from pop music!
There is something for every pop music fan on this album. Guest stars include...Brian Wilson , Mandy Barnett, Nino Tempo , Tommy Ramone, Flaco Jimenez, James Burton , N.R.B.Q., Tommy Morgan , Jerry "The Geator" Blavett
etc..
I never get tired of this record. It's on in my car all the time. I've given it to all my hip friends and they all love it , as do their young kids and their stoner , college-age kids!
It's a HIT!!!!

Classic '70's hits.......2006-02-02
My favorite cut has to be "Let it be me", both singers are at their best on this performance, and it would have been great to use this as the closing track, but een so, this collection is great.
In the 1990's EMI issued a 20 track collection of duets by Kenny and Dottie in the UK which contained both of their studio albums from 1978 and 1979, and ultimately 9 of the 10 cuts here (plus 11 others) however, that is long out of print. The only "extra" you get here is "What are we doing in love", as it didn't appear on either album, but was a single release from 1981.
This CD, however, is cheaply priced, but the music is gourmet.
Budget compilation of original recordings.......2005-08-01
So here you get the two big hits from their first duets album (Every time two fools collide, Anyone who isn't me tonight), their last duet hit (What are we doing in love), which didn't appear on either of their two duet albums - it came later - and covers of You needed me, All I ever need is you, Hey won't you play another somebody done somebody wrong song, Let it be me, Till I can make it on my own and You've lost that loving feeling. Some of these covers were big hits for Kenny and Dottie.
Though the packaging is modest without liner notes or credits (this is a budget collection), this collection provides a good sample of the duets that Kenny and Dottie recorded together. Many of these tracks (and some not included here) can be found tucked away in solo compilations by Kenny and Dottie but this provides a rare opportunity to hear their duets as a collection. It'll do until a more complete collection is released - especially at the price.
NOT THE ORIGINAL..........2003-12-05
1. Every Time Two Fools Collide
2. You And Me
3. What's Wrong With Us Today
4. Beautiful Lies
5. That's The Way It Could Have Been
6. Why Don't We Go Somewhere And Love
7. Baby I'm A Want You
8. Anyone Who Isn't Me Tonight
9. The Loving Gift
10 We Love Each Other.
That's the way I remember it folks, and that's the way it should have been re-issued. I'm sorry, but either release the original album in its entirety without butchering it up or omitting songs, or just don't even bother. I'm tired of wasting my time and money on deceptive and sly business practices from the music industry.

+1/2 -- All too brief an introduction.......2004-04-09
Oddly, the album presents the tracks in reverse chronological order, starting with "Crazy in Love," progressing through Rogers' solo hits, and finishing with the early chart successes of The First Edition. What's here is great - especially less radio-familiar tunes like "Tell it All Brother" and "Ruben James." The neo-psychedelia of "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" is a real kick, mixing the druggy production sounds of late-60s San Francisco with the chipper singing of The New Christy Minstrels.
Those who like this dozen tracks will quickly want to find songs like "Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer," "Coward of the County," "Islands in the Stream" and many more. As a budget priced entry, this is a quick and inexpensive way to pick up some of Rogers' greatest hits, but it's bound to leave you wanting more.
3-1/2 stars, if allowed fractional ratings.

Album Description
2005 double-disc collection features Kenny's solo work as a Country Pop hit-maker including #1 hits 'Lucille' and 'Coward of the County' as well as coveted B-sides and album tracks. Also features notable collaborations with other country stars such as Sheena Easton, Kim Carnes and Dottie West. EMI.Customer Reviews:
An outstanding compilation of Kenny's music.......2005-08-27
Taking the classic solo recordings first, the compilation opens withy Kenny's two UK number one country hits - Lucille and Coward of the county, both of which also made the top five in the American pop charts. Apart from Tennessee Ernie Ford (whose hits pre-dated the birth of rock'n'roll), Kenny is the only country singer (so far) to have two UK number one hits. Even Jim Reeves (the only country singer ever to be a consistent hit-maker in the UK) only managed one UK number one (Distant drums) and that was a posthumous hit.
Kenny's biggest American hit (Lady) spent several weeks at number one there but stalled outside the UK top ten. Being written and produced by Lionel Richie, it deserved to do a lot better but perhaps it wasn't the type of record that the UK pop buyers of the day liked. Other notable American hits include Sweet music man, All my life, Love the world away, She believes in me, You decorated my life, Blaze of glory (which would sound ever better as the closing track), Love will turn you around, I don't need you, Scarlet fever, Share your love with me. Love or something like it and Through the years. Notable by their absence are Love lifted me, Daytime friends and The gambler, but all those songs are easy to find elsewhere - if you must have them, buy a different compilation. The collection also includes re-recordings of Ruby don't take your love to town (a UK number two hit in 1969) and Reuben James, both of which Kenny originally recorded as lead singer of Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. The surprise here is that Something's burning is omitted - the original version was a UK top ten hit.
My first Kenny Rogers album was his untitled 1977 album. It is also the most traditional country album that Kenny ever recorded. The compiler of this collection clearly enjoys that album as much as I do because it is generously represented here. Apart from Lucille (the big hit from the album), you'll also find Son of Hickory Holler's tramp (a cover of O C Smith's sixties hit), Green green grass of home (another sixties cover), Lay down beside me (a Don Williams song although Kenny recorded it first), Putting in overtime at home (a cover of a Charlie Rich country hit), Laura what's he got that I ain't got (a minor country hit for Kenny that rarely turns up on Kenny's compilations) and I wasn't man enough (possibly making its debut on a compilation). With that many songs selected, it's a pity that neither Mother country music (my favorite track from the album apart from Lucille) nor While I play the fiddle (another great song that rarely appears on compilations) were among them.
The duets with Dottie are Every time two fools collide (a song that Dottie was planning to record solo until Kenny turned up at the recording session) and covers of All I ever need in you, We love each other, Together again, Let it be me, Just the way you are and You've lost that loving feeling. Notable by their absence are Anyone who isn't me tonight and Till I can make it on my own.
While there are some obvious omissions, there are plenty of less-frequently heard songs that are well worth hearing. Apart from those already mentioned, here you can find You were a good friend, Long arm of the law, While the feeling's good, Twentieth century fool and A love song.
As an introduction to Kenny's music, this is brilliant but even if you've got some of his music already, you may decide to buy this for the songs you haven't got.

This is Such an Amazing CD!.......2007-04-25
When I first played it, I only cared for one or two of the songs. But I had to keep playing it until I really "got" the message behind the songs and appreciated them by themselves. In other words, I had to forget about the previous albums completely and focus on this one. I had had enough experience and faith in Kenny Loggin's music to really give this one a try. Now, after listening to it at least once a day for the past 2 weeks, I can honestly say that it's one of Kenny's best albums ever! He has consistently demonstrated a real commitment to creating and producing quality music for almost 4 decades. Do yourself a favor and pick up this CD. Forget about his previous efforts and simply enjoy this one by itself; it will not disappoint you.
