Like Buffalo Tom or Dinosaur Jr--whose gentle fury is echoed in their finer moments--Throneberry are more radical when going for the heart rather than the jugular. But they just don't do it often enough, choosing instead to mask their vulnerability in post-grunge clichés: chest-heaving melodies, blood-letting guitar licks and gravelly beard-and-beer vocals.
