DITTO!! .......2005-10-28

I too purchase this from Best Buy for the same amount and got home excited couldn't wait to listen to the music. IT IS NOT THE SAME ORIGINAL Recordings!! YES it is the same artists but not the original radio versions, in fact I had to listen carefully on the "If You don't know me by now" by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes (which is a VERY STRONG Teddy Pendergrass vocal) the re-recording was flat. The other one that cinched it for me was "Magnet and Steel" by Walter Egan I was so dissapointed and wanted to get my money back but it was to late in my over zealous response I opened all 3 CD's so I could enjoy them then after listening to at least one song per each CD realized that this was DEFINATLY NOT the music I wanted/intended to purchase.

Don't be fooled. I made the mistake of buying this set from best buy for $11.99....IT IS NOT THE ORIGINAL RECORDINGS!! On the cover in very small print, it says re-recordings from the original artists. Different versions of their songs. Dosen't sound anywhere as good as the originals. Buyer Beware!!

Disappointing.......2003-12-13

This three CD set has many songs that are difficult to find in a compilation from the 70s. That's precisely why I ordered it. Unfortunately, this set is advertised as "original artists" but sounds like remakes in virtually every situation. At a minimum the recordings sound like they are at 78 rpm rather than the original 45 rpm that I first remember hearing them. The original integrity of the songs does not seem intact here. I was disappointed and wouldn't suggest buying, unless you don't care about how closely this approximates the original.

Sensational 70's Various Artists.......2003-09-09

What a disappointment! The cuts here are not the original cuts. These songs are cheap imitations, so bad I couldn't tell for sure if even the artists weren't imposters. Stick to buying the real thing unless you are willing to settle for less.

Original artists - Don't be misled.......2003-03-13

Disc 1 contains some great music and all the songs are the original recordings by the original artists.

Discs 2 and 3 are a joke - they sound as if they were run through a "Muzak" filter. As far as I can tell, they are all re-makes or they are recorded by imitators. After listening to Disc 1, I was horribly disappointed by the other discs. Some of the vocal arrangements were very similar, but the instrumentals were horrible - like something you might here over the speakers in the local grocery store.

Don't waste your money expecting to hear songs that you remember as a youth in the 70s. Most of the songs sound nothing like what you heard on AM radio. The distributors of these discs should be ashamed of themselves - it really is false advertising to claim that Discs 2 and 3 are the "Original Artists".

Madacy - Madness, See !.......2002-04-17

Madacy provides 3 CDs in this box Set.

One CD is from Sony - Boston, Cheap Trick, and Santana are the Sony CD songs. These songs are original recordings and are excellent quality.

The other 2 CD's contain re-recordings.

The re-recorded songs do not sound like the originals. They say "original artists", and mention their "UV22" process, but the quality of these songs is sub-par. One song (..."Playground in My Mind) obviously cannot be using "original artists", since the children would be in their 30's by now. Freda Payne cannot sing "Band Of Gold" the same way twice (but who could ?). The artists do give a good effort to duplicate their earlier works, but if you know what they should sound like, you will know something isn't right.

They are not simply the original instrument tracks with new vocals - the instruments are different too. Effects and instruments are missing. The special effects from "Indiana Wants Me" are missing. "Hitchin A Ride" is overdone...

However, Dobie Gray, and "Looking Glass" do excellent covers of their own songs. Very hard to tell they aren't the originals... but why not buy the originals ? They are available here on amazon.

The oldies stations play these songs frequently - but they play the originals, not what you get on 2/3 of these CDs.

For the oldies lover, these are unacceptable. This would be a great collection if the originals were used instead of these.

Sensational Box Set.......2001-01-01

This is a great box set. With Boston, Cheap Trick, Santana and many others, it sums up the terrific music of the 70's. It's pop/rock music at it's best. This box set makes a great gift for any fan of 70's pop/rock.
