"I'm gonna sing mostly new songs tonight," Neil Young tells the rapt Massey Hall audience, "...I've written so many new ones that I can't think of anything else to do with them other than sing 'em." He steps to the mic unadorned, distant from CSNY's rippled harmonies or Crazy Horse's yowl, hypnotically nailing 17 tracks on this unreleased 1971 solo set. You hear him tower at vocal heights on the chorus for "Old Man" (then a debuted, brand-new song) and name-check Canada on "Journey to the Past" and North Ontario on "Helpless," much to the Toronto crowd's delight. The sound is impeccable, and the closeness to Young in this spare setting exhilarates--especially his vocal quavering in the high registers, his intricate guitar work, and an overall vibe that exceeds description. And the DVD: Here you catch Young in tightly framed, starkly-lit shots, flourishing in the early years of an unparalleled rock career. Not only that, you get commentary from 1997, a rare window on how Young thinks, how he speaks, his humor. --Andrew BartlettAlbum Description
One of the greatest singer-songwriters of the rock era. Solo. Acoustic. January 19, 1971. Live At Massey Hall, the legendary concert from Neil Young, is finally officially released, and in highresolution stereo, in this CD+DVD package (also as a solo CD). The acclaimed Toronto performance features classics "Old Man" and, in a suite, "A Man Needs A Maid" and "Heart Of Gold" (before they were recorded for Harvest) along with some of his most popular songs ("Cowgirl In The Sand," "Ohio") as well as the most obscure ("Bad Fog Of Loneliness"). Live At Massey Hall is a newly mined rock gem.Customer Reviews:
great purchase.......2007-07-19
simply put.......2007-07-17
Brilliant, moving, passionate, real. Oh, how rare that is in 2007. How joyful when you hear it.
Absolutely the #1 Neil Young Album.......2007-07-13
I have always liked Neil Young, but this album puts him in an entirely new light for me. I used to think of him as a subpar Dylan -- nice tunes, distinctive homey voice, not as prolific. All of that changed with Massey Hall's release. It is mesmerizing. The sound quality is truly audiophile -- how did they DO that? The album is so good it forced me to study Neil and his art in depth.
Having studied his work now, I'd now put Neil Young on par with Lennon/McCartney, Bob Dylan and George Harrison as a singer-songwriter. Most would disagree with me, but I would now put him even above Bob Dylan, for the simple reason that Neil Young has never lost a step in 40 years. Even the "dark years" produced wonderful albums. The songs here are simply stunning. They will literally bring tears to your eyes.
The DVD is worth having because it has a few interesting interviews -- especially the one with the "Old Man."
Neil - what's the deal?.......2007-06-24
This is what I would expect from a bootleg. Why Neil Young feels the need to market a con such as these (see the reviews on the Filmore East show) is beyond me. But I still love him...
CD GREAT-DVD, FORGET IT.......2007-06-18
Unless you just have to have everything by Neil Young, just get the CD - you can live without the DVD. Out of 68 minutes, a repeat of the CD, you get - if you're lucky, maybe 20 minutes of poorly photographed concert footage. And what's the remainder? If you're stoned and really get your jollies in watching a film of tape recorder taping the concert, you'll truly enjoy the DVD. Yep, that's the bulk of the DVD - a tape recorder recording the concert with Neil singing in the background. And from the looks of the surroundings, the tape recorder isn't even at Massey Hall, but probably somewhere else.
A truly great CD which belongs in the collection of every Neil Young fan. You can live without the DVD and not miss a thing. Take the money you'll save by purchasing just the CD sans DVD and buy another Neil Young album.

Perhaps it's the color scheme and imagery on the slipcase art for Live at the Gorge, recalling Roger Dean's classic 1970s-era album jackets, but this 7-disc set of live Pearl Jam feels warmly retro. Fans will concur, of course, since the 100 tracks favor Ten and Vs. And let's not kid ourselves, it'll be mostly committed fans that buy Gorge, given the sprawl and the fact that several tunes appear three times. That fact alone is retro: Fans buy live albums; generalists stay away. What fans will get--and generalists miss--here is an old-school, road-proved rock throwdown, from start to finish. Eddie Vedder's connection to fans is palpable in the between-song chatter and the Brit-style sing-a-longs (not to mention the Tom Petty goading he has going strong on the 2005 gig or the two appearances of Petty's "I Won't Back Down"). The general soundscape goes like this: The 2005 set is somber and slow-to-build, with its highlight in "I Believe in Miracles" as a show-opener. The 2006 discs, all four of them, are heated and gritty, with the final show's opening, "Severed Hand," providing a great vantage point into Pearl Jam's version of what Keith Richards calls "guitar weaving." It was a sweltering day at the Gorge (in George, Washington, no less), and the music embodies the heat. --Andrew BartlettAlbum Description
From the time of their spectacular arrival 17 years ago, Pearl Jam has continually earned and maitained the respect of one of popular music's most devoted followings. Live at the Gorge represents why. Weighing in at 7 1/2 hours of unparalleled, nonstop, incendiary rock 'n' roll, this box set faithfully presents an all-time legend at the height of their power.Customer Reviews:
BEST LIVE PJ SET EVER!!.......2007-07-18
This is a must buy for any Pearl Jam fan... my single complaint is thier are nor liner notes.
Pearl Jam rewards their fans again.......2007-07-13
The 05 show is contained on Discs 1 - 3. Disc 1 is an acoustic set, similar to the Mansfield set from 03. This particular set list is not as strong as the Mansfield acoustic set, but is still enjoyable and includes Hard to Imagine. Discs 2 and 3 contain the remainder of the show, and a number of rarities including Alone, Sad and Undone. Other notable songs include Dissident, MFC, Not for You, and In My Tree. The only downside of this show is that the attempts to annoy Tom Petty occasionally take away from the music, in my opinion.
Discs 4 and 5 contain the first 06 show and this show is the highlight of the entire box set. A great set list is highlighted by Wash, great performances of Corduroy and Hail Hail, Down, Daughter/It's OK, and Blood. But it is the first encore (Disc 5) that really shines. The band plays through Footsteps, Once, Alive, State of Love and Trust, Crown of Thorns, Leash and Porch without stopping. This is a real treat for fans of older Pearl Jam as these are all classics - but the best is yet to come when they play the rarely played Dirty Frank in the closing set.
Discs 6 and 7 contain the second 06 show and again fans are treated to some gems including God's Dice, In Hiding, Green Disease, Betterman/Save it for Later, the re-worked Garden, Rats, and Whipping. They close with Yellow Ledbetter, to which Mike adds the Star Spangled Banner. Those familiar with the 06 tour know that Mike frequently played the Star Spangled Banner during Yellow Ledbetter, and together with Eddie's vaguely anti-war lyrics, this classic song has taken on a whole new meaning, one that is especially relevant given the current state of affairs in the world.
In summary, Pearl Jam continues to reward their fans by making their live shows available, in one format or another, for reasonable prices. This set is no exception and it highlights the greatest band doing what they do best. A great mix of classic songs, new versions of songs, and rare songs make this set especially attractive. This is a must have.
Fantastic Live Shows.......2007-07-10
The first show recorded on September 1st 2005, not September 5th like the box says, is the second best show of the set in my eyes. The first disc of this show is just incredible and is worth 40 bucks alone. The band opens up with I Believe In Miracles. Ive NEVER heard a version of this song I liked better. Its really the best Ive ever heard, not to mention a lot of other PJ fans can agree. The takes on Low Light, I Am Mine, Crazy Mary, and Black are also some of the best Ive heard. When I was listening to Black on that disc I actually cried! Ive heard the song hundreds of times, but that version did it for me. The only mistake on this disc is where Eddie messes up the lyrics on Off He Goes, but its forgivable and he just laughs it off. I cant forget the awesome version of Hard To Imagine. The band doesnt play this one much, so its certainly a huge plus. Eds voice has never sounded better. Whoever thinks Ed Vedder has lost his pipes should listen to this. The second disc starts off with the only version of Given To Fly I even listen to. I think the song is overplayed, but this one has the energy like no other. Other stong takes on this disc are Last Exit, Save You, Alone, Sad, Not For You, Dissident, and Undone. Some of those songs are hard to come by live and they are played perfect. Ed messes up on Do The Evolution and Insignificance, but I believe he just got too excited. Disc 3 also has a few good versions of Love Boat Captain, Last Kiss, and Blood. Theres the version of I Wont Back Down thats a little rusty, but is played better on the third show of the box set. The September 1st show was a great one. Really an all around perfect live performance.
The second show recorded on July 22nd 2006 is my personal favorite out of the entire box set. It makes my top 10 favorite PJ shows for sure. The setlist, the energy, and the whole vibe is just WOW. Not to mention the show opens up with a killer take on Wash. I havent got the room to type all the great versions on this show because nearly all are great! The ones that stick out the most as being special are Hail Hail, Severed Hand, Unemployable, Black, Insignificance, Life Wasted, and Blood on the first disc. The second disc is the real treat in my eyes. So many awesome songs that are played perfect. Once, Alive now Ed can certainly belt this one out, State of Love and Trust played so sweetly, Leash, Porch, Inside Job, and Go are all just mind blowingly excellent. The performance of Last Kiss is most likely the best Ive heard... ever. I usually dont like the song live, but its really good here. I didnt list Footsteps because this version is in a league of its own. My God, Ed has never sung the song better. It sends little chills through my whole body. Cant forget Dirty Frank, this song isnt played much at all. Its really cool to hear this live. Ed can still sing it good too. This show is just fantastic anyway you can look at it.
The last show from the Gorge Box Set is my least favorite, but is by no means anywhere near bad. Its still incredible, but compared with the other two shows it lacks. The first disc is the best of this show. I love opening up with Severed Hand. Other really great versions are In Hiding where Eds voice sounds great, Marker In The Sand, and Army Reserve sounds better here than on the studio version. This discs last 5 songs are just pure intense energy. Its so good to hear Garden, Jeremy, and Why Go played with so much energy and raw passion. Garden sounds better here than on the studio version for sure. Its another song where Ed sounds better now than he ever has. I cant believe people say the band sounded better in the early 90s. They sound better here to me. The second disc has good takes on Life Wasted, Big Wave, Satans Bed, Alive, and a wicked version of Crazy Mary. So this show can really hold its ground as being awesome too.
If you read all this Im sorry its long, but with 7 whole discs of music theres a lot to cover. I highly recommend this set to anyone who likes rock music or is just a casual PJ fan. You cant beat 7 discs for 40 bucks. This set just shows how great this band is, how talented, and how hard these boys still rock. God, I wish I could have been a teen in the 90s to hear them!
Classic live box, must have it..........2007-07-10
Sept. 1st 2005
One show = 36 songs, what to say. On first 3 cd's you can find classic songs like "Black", "Small Town", "Even Flow", "Daughter", "State of Love and Trust", "Alive", "Last Kiss", "Betterman", "Yellow Ledbetter"... and many rarities like "Man of the Hour", "Hard to Imagine", "Alone", "Undone", "Crown of Thorns", "Sad"... plus they played 3 great covers "I Believe in Miracles" (Ramones), "I Won't Back Down" (Tom Petty) and "Baba O'Riley" (Who). They also played "Love Boat Captain", song written after Roskilde tragedy in 2000.
July 22nd & 23rd 2006
Last two shows on American Tour in 2006. On these 4 cd's you can hear almost the whole new album they had released in 2006 (selftitled album "Pearl Jam"). Again, like in 2005 they played many rarities like "Mamasan Trilogy" (Footsteps, Once, Alive), "Leash", "Dirty Frank", "Wash", "Down", "God's Dice", "In Hiding", "Garden", "Rats", Jimi Hendrix "Little Wing" and Neil Young "Rockin' in the Free World" and "F*ckin' up" plus many classics...
After all, if you decide to buy this box, trust me, you won't regret because this box is a piece of art.
Notice: tracklisting on Amazon is incorrect:
Sept. 1st 2005: 1st cd has 9 songs, 2nd cd has 17 songs, 3rd cd has 11 songs
July 22nd 2006: 1st cd has 17 songs, 2nd cd has 15 songs
July 23rd 2006: 1st cd has 18 songs, 2nd cd has 13 songs
9/10.......2007-07-07
But packaging aside, here is some vital information I assembled that might be useful to some of you who may be indecisive as to whether or not to acquire this box. I did a tally of all the songs and arranged them by era, based on the studio albums, so you can quickly see how many songs you're getting from whatever albums you love. Non-LP songs include b-sides and session songs. (Yeah, I was bored at work.) So here are the album-eras of Pearl Jam, followed by the number of songs performed live in this box set:
Ten ......... 12 (eight LP, four non-LP)
Vs. .......... 11 (nine LP, two non-LP)
Vitalogy .... 7
No Code .... 3
Yield ......... 5
Binaural .... 3 (two LP, one non-LP)
Riot Act .... 6 (four LP, two non-LP)
Pearl Jam ... 12
Covers ...... 8
Other ........ 3
Amidst the three long shows, totaling exactly 100 tracks (there are tracks not listed on Amazon for some reason), there are five threepeated songs (Evenflow, Alive, Corduroy, Given to Fly, and Yellow Ledbetter). As you can tell from the tally, it's a good mix of material; not entirely representative of every album, but most likely representative of the albums that the majority of people want to hear (i.e. Ten and Vs.). But all the performances are spot-on and well done by the band, and of course there's a lot of mid-song banter that gives that "realness" to the shows, and makes you feel like you were there even if you weren't. So if you're a fan, there's really no reason not to pick this up.
A couple of side notes: Among the "other" songs is a dual performance of Mother Love Bone's "Crown of Thorns," which they have been playing fairly often in the past few years. I didn't think it fair to consider that a cover song. Also included in the later versions of Yellow Ledbetter is a Hendrix tribute that McCready has been squeezing in in recent shows, which includes excerpts from "Little Wing" and "The Star-spangled Banner," the former of which is covered as a separate track on the last disc.

Sweeping Up the Spotlight: Live at the Fillmore East 1969 features the definitive edition of Jefferson Airplane, icons of 1960s psychedelic rock and political agitation. Jack Casady and Spencer Dryden hold down the free-floating rhythms on bass and drums, Jorma Kaukonen launches feedback-laced guitar solos, and Paul Kantner adds rhythm guitar and backing vocals. Topping it all are the voices of Marty Balin and the '60s acid queen, Grace Slick. In concert, the Airplane were always more rough and ready than on their acid-hued vinyl. Outside the studio, they were ramshackle and punky, which is why they were sometimes referenced when talking about punk bands like X, who also had male and female lead singers. Despite having six albums under their belt, mostly consisting of original material, the Airplane's live set has a lot of mediocre blues and folk filler. Some of their more characteristic repertoire is sacrificed to workman-like renditions of "Uncle Sam Blues" and "Come Back Baby," albeit with some ripping Kaukonen guitar solos. Balin's raucous rant on "You Wear Your Dresses too Short" is embarrassing in its soul-singer aspirations. Assuming this was their set sequence, it takes a while for the Airplane to congeal on stage. They ride roughshod over much of their materiel, but pull it together two-thirds of the way through on one of their most complex tunes, "The Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil." With its shifting time signatures and overlapping vocal lines and harmonies, it's a challenge to pull off live, but they do, with soaring vocals from Balin and Slick and a long instrumental jam with a fractured guitar solo from Kaukonen and a feature slot for bassist Casady, the most innovative and powerful bassist from that era. That paves the way for a darker version of "White Rabbit," the mock celebration of "Crown of Creation," and their show closer, a hyped rendition of Fred Neil's ballad "The Other Side of This Life." As they always did, the Jefferson Airplane land high. --John DilibertoCustomer Reviews:
I liked this one.......2007-07-12
The Airplane's musical and technical genius is best reflected in their studio recordings. This is a very good live recording of an excellent sample of their music. If you think you don't have enough Jefferson Airplane records you can buy this one.
You know, it's possible to get better tunes for free, just look..........2007-07-11

Ha!

You DO Know Jack.......2007-07-05
1) If you are a fan of Jack's, then you want this CD. He does a solo on Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil that is OFF THE FREAKING HOOK, my brothers and sisters. This solo--and Jack took way too few of them if you ask me-- feels like tectonic plates shifting. On the rest of the CD his playing absolutely ROARS as well. No one before or since has ever played bass like Jack. When Jorma joins in after the solo Jack even manages to feed on the energy and take it to still a higher level.
(Aside: To say the singing and harmonies are "uneven" is to be kind. Like so much of their live work, the vocal are just silly and indulgent.)
2) I really like how you can hear what Kantner was doing for a change. This must be a result of modern sound technology. It adds a dimension that we had to struggle to enjoy in the past and I am very glad they captured his work here.
Is it better than BIPLH? It's different. It's worth it if only for Jack's playing but there is so much more to enjoy too. Take care.
Yes, they were that good.......2007-06-29
Because of my experience at these shows, the JA was always THE band. Sometimes Mitch Mitchell of the JH Experience would sit in, often there was a free concert in the park on Sunday where the JA, the GD or Santana would blend together.
The creativity of the band, the depth and variety of its musicality, its emotional range, its intensity, its fearlesses (and sometimes they did crash!) and its passion all moved me greatly. And bass player Jack Casady , , , WOW.
The recorded output of the band, as brilliant as most of it is, never fully captured the Airplane live on a night when it was on-- not even "Bless its Pointed Little Head" fully got it-- not the best performance of Bear Melt or Rock Me Baby by a long shot and the other performances such as Its No Secret, 3/5ths of a Mile, Somebody to Love and Plastic Fantastic Lover are no where near the band's peak levels of creativity and intensity.
It is from this perspective that I say that this disc gets it TRUE.
This was the song of my youth (I'm now 54) and with this disc I touch the place in me that is always young.
That said, I teach martial arts for a living and I find that when I play this disc for a training session that my students often ask me "Who was that? That was really good, I want it get one, etc".
There is something here which resonates across time, , ,

Anyone who owned the vinyl copy of Live at Leeds will barely recognize its digitized namesake. While the 1970 record offered a mere six selections, the 1995 CD reissue is fleshed out with a full 14 tracks. Reveling in the augmented Leeds prompts one to wonder why in the name of "Heaven and Hell" they didn't put out a double record in the first place. No matter. This Live at Leeds is actually superior to its revered predecessor. The Who are at their Maximum R&B peak here, bringing an almost proto-metal aggression to supercharged covers of "Young Man Blues," "Summertime Blues," and "Shakin' All Over" (all from the original record) and treating fans to originals familiar ("I Can't Explain," "My Generation," "Magic Bus") and less known ("Heaven and Hell," "Tattoo," "A Quick One"). An improved-upon classic. --Steven StolderAlbum Description

A revelation as to why the Who were revered in live show.......2007-07-14
FYI - if you stumble across the "Live At Leeds Extended Edition", note that it's this set plus their live performance of "Tommy". IMHO the live Tommy isn't nearly as interesting as the studio or film versions, so if you're trying to choose between them, I recommend this one.
The best live album I have ever heard.......2007-07-06
"I Can't Explain" so let the music do the talking (5 stars).......2007-06-02
"Live At Leads" when issued originally on vinyl with a handful of tracks and surface noise would still be considered one of the finest on stage recordings ever; even if the bonus tracks and better quality never saw the light of day!!!
The music is a blowtorch. John Entwhistle's "Heaven And Hell" is a tremendous song to get the event going. The Who's version of "Fortune Teller" is stellar. If you want to experience the definitive "Summertime Blues" it is waiting for your ears.
When the Who were really "THE WHO" (Roger, Keith, John, and Pete) their shows were not only concerts but a rock and roll event.
Let's go back in time for the amazing journey.
Be well always,

If you've seen The Who then I don't know what you're doing reading this but then any who is a lot but if you haven't and you want to know what you're missing Rock and Roll!
This is a double album of songs The Who have had around for years and the musicianship is about all that you can expect for a very tight four piece concert band.
I must say the taste required to enjoy this album runs a little off the wall but that's only in a very few numbers so you can relax and enjoy some of the hits that made The Who famous here.
I like My Generation. "People try to put us down... talkin' 'bout my generashean" I'm afraid I missed most of this Generation as it were 'cause I was only ten years old when this song first came out but it drew me to it like a siren in the night since I first heard the opening chords on the local radio station.
Magic Bus and thirteen other songs are played Live in concert on this album Live! just The Who and you to put in two albums worth of Rock and Roll. Not a bad album at all. Seriously.
Five stars out of five even for a live album.
"Leeds" is the Leading Who Album.......2007-04-14
"Leeds" features the Who at their ferocious best. It sounds almost nothing like their studios albums of the time. Instead, the fast and brutal playing lays the groundwork for virtually every heavy riff-based rhythm-guitar player to follow in the Who's footsteps. Try and track down the original versions of Mose Allison's "Young Man Blues" and Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues" and then listen to the blistering versions on this CD. The Who played like there was no tomorrow at the Leeds concert, and a very good argument could be made that this is one of the first true punk records from England. An equally good observation is that the arrangements on this CD are not too distantly related from what Jimmy Page did with Led Zeppelin on their second album.
"Leeds" is the CD many of us will remember the Who by, long after their many disappointing live reunion CDs (not to mention their increasingly weak studio LPs) are forgotten. This CD is proof of the power that rock and roll can have.

With its devotion to '50s rock and blues coupled to a manic, if decidedly middlebrow performance tack, Ten Years After could seem positively Jurassic, even by late-'60s standards. This collection culls magnificently recorded performances (kudos to Hendrix/ELP engineer Eddie Kramer) from a February 1970 weekend stand at the Fillmore East, capturing the band at its post-Woodstock performing peak. The running times of most of the tracks (three-quarters of which clock in at seven-plus minutes) will tip listeners to the show's jam-heavy take on covers of Sonny Boy Williamson (an ominous, revamped "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl"), Willie Dixon (a slow, 16-minute burn through "Help Me"), and Chuck Berry (atypically economic romps of "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Roll Over Beethoven"). But with the band's own primordial originals (the titles "Skooby-Oobly-Doobob" and "Extension on One Chord" speak for themselves) there's an elemental, effusive--and, dare we say it--Ramones-like stoopidity to the tracks. Even Alvin Lee's trademark fret-burner "I'm Going Home" is hard to resist. This set perfectly captures one of the era's hardest working bands in a concise, double-disc time capsule. --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description

The Black Crowes already possess one of the beefiest sounds in rock. Add legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and now you're talking about thick-cut steak. Recorded in October 1999, this double-disc slab will certainly stick to your ribs, chock-full as it is of burly, brawny riffs, and it is as flavorful as it is filling. Without question, the pairing of Page and the Crowes sounds as strong on your player as it does on paper. Page's playing is more focused and incisive than it has been of late, the Crowes sound energized and inspired by the esteemed guest, and Chris Robinson makes a fine Robert Plant. The Zep covers, which account for 14 of the 20 tracks, stay close to the original arrangements--you can sing along most of the way based on your knowledge of the Zep studio albums. At first, this may seem disappointing, but it becomes clear very quickly that this method is preferable to any heavy-handed reworkings. And they smartly include a few lesser-known tracks as well ("Sick Again" and "Ten Years Gone" from Physical Graffiti and "Out on the Tiles" from III). The real payoff, however, comes with the half-dozen blues covers, which sound looser and more alive than the Zep tunes. This set isn't innovative, surprising, or adventurous, but that's precisely where its charms lie. --Marc GreilsamerAlbum Description

Return of the Monster Riffs.......2007-03-17
OK, Page's solos aren't 100% on point, but he still gets 5 stars because any one of these riffs can eat entire other bands for breakfast. Make sense? OK, put it this way...Jimmy had to do a lot of drugs to be able to go to that strange, dark place where these riffs were living and drag them kicking and screaming back to the land of the living. For that we will forgive him a few off notes here and there.
If you've got any testosterone, for God's sake, get this.
THE BLACK CROWES MEET AND PERFORM WITH ONE OF THEIR FAVORITE IDOLS, MR. JIMMY PAGE........2007-02-08
In my opinion, I feel it was destiny that brought these two musical giants of artists together even if it was only for a short time. Listening to this album in its entirety, it is evident who THE BLACK CROWES musical influence really is. When JIMMY PAGE met and joined forces with THE BLACK CROWES lead vocalist and frontman CHRIS ROBINSON, his brother RICH ROBINSON on guitar, STEVE GORMAN on drums, ED HARSCH on keyboards, SVEN PIPIEN on bass and AUDLEY FREED on guitar, a great legendary band was born in the image and offspring of none other than the MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN. LED ZEPPELIN'S special blend of Rock n' Roll music performed on this legendary album would not only add more fuel to THE BLACK CROWES legend, but to the LED ZEPPELIN legend as well. This legendary album is a true testament of LED ZEPPELIN'S legendary music and a fine tribute to the legacy of this mighty band. In my opinion, this is one hell of an album that deserves to be listened to. And yes, this legendary historic album does kick a*s.
All of the songs reviewed here are a wonderful tribute to the MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN. I will list and briefly review all of the song tracks in their original exact running order as follows: DISC ONE (1.) "Celebration Day," (What a Rocker. This Rocker kicks a*s. JIMMY does not waste any time when he finds and gets into his groove with THE BLACK CROWES. CHRIS ROBINSON plays and sings the role of ROBERT PLANT perfectly. RICH and AUDLEY back up JIMMY perfectly as well. This new live rendition version of the original 1970 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker almost sounds as good as the original and the live version performed on "THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME.") (2.) "Custard Pie," (This is one hell of a Rocker that kicks a*s. At last, there is a new released live rendition version of the 1975 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY & THE BLACK CROWES play this Rocker extremely well. THIS IS ALL OUT PURE ROCK N' ROLL AT ITS ABSOLUTE BEST.) (3.) "Sick Again," (This is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This new Rocker rendition of the original 1975 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker almost sounds as good if not better. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY play some mean guitars in this Rocker. CHRIS sings this Rocker with pure adrenaline and emotion that gives this Rocker an additional kick.) (4.) "What Is And What Should Never Be," (This is another well recorded slow Rocker that kicks a*s. This new slow Rocker rendition of the original 1969 LED ZEPPELIN classic is breathtaking with some new added climaxes. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY add some new ground blistering guitar playing arrangements with JIMMY playing all of the solos. As I mentioned in one of my other prior reviews, legend or rumor has it that JIMMY is now receiving Cortisone injections before each gig, is there any truth to that? If anyone knows, please comment my review and let me know. It would be deeply appreciated. I have noticed that JIMMY'S playing has deteriorated with time. PLEASE NOTE that I am in no way knocking JIMMY'S performance. I am extremely thankful that JIMMY & THE BLACK CROWES have blessed us with this album.) (5.) "Woke Up This Morning," (This is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This is not a LED ZEPPELIN number. JIMMY plays a mean guitar solo in this one. RICH and AUDLEY compliment and back up JIMMY perfectly with their superb guitar playing. CHRIS sings this Rocker with such raw energy and intensity that the audience gets into this Rocker and carries the band to another level.) (6.) "Shapes Of Things To Come," (AKA "Shapes Of Things") (This is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This Rocker is a new rendition version of THE YARDBIRDS 1965 classic Rocker. CHRIS sings this Rocker with new added power and emotion that you cannot help but feel this song with the band. JIMMY plays the guitar solo with new added emotion that it almost sounds better than the original.) (7.) "Sloppy Drunk," (This is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. JIMMY plays a fine guitar solo during this Rocker. RICH AND AUDLEY also play some wicked guitar solos in this Rocker. CHRIS sings this Rocker with new feeling and a intensity not heard from him before.) (8.) "Ten Years Gone," (Again, this is another well recorded slow turned Rocker that kicks a*s. This Rocker is another new live rendition of the original 1975 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY plays his guitar with such skill and grace that he and the rest of the band almost bring back the spirit of the MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN. RICH and AUDLEY also contribute perfectly with their masterful guitar playing. CHRIS sings this song with new power and emotion not heard in years.) (9.) "In my Time Of Dying" (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. What a Rocker. This new Rockin' version is a rendition of the original 1975 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY plays a mean sliding guitar. CHRIS' blistering lead vocals adds more power to this song's legend than ever before. RICH and AUDLEY add more of THE BLACK CROWES magic touch to this LED ZEPPELIN Rocker. and (10.) "Your Time Is Gonna Come." (Again, what can I say but this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This legendary Rocker is a new live rendition of the original 1969 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. ED adds his own special blend and personal touch of his keyboard playing to the original LED ZEPPELIN Rocker. CHRIS adds new life to this song not heard on the original. JIMMY, RICH AND AUDLEY give this LED ZEPPELIN Rocker new life and energy not heard on the original.) END OF DISC ONE.
DISC TWO (1.) "The Lemon Song," (Again, this is another well recorded song that kicks a*s. This Blues Rocker is a new live rendition of the original 1969 LED ZEPPELIN classic Blues Rocker. In my opinion, this Rocker contains nine minutes of some of the greatest Rock n' Roll that you have ever heard. JIMMY plays his guitar like he is on a mission to surpass ZEPPELIN'S original version. RICH and AUDLEY backs up and compliments JIMMY'S guiar playing arrangements perfectly with THE BLACK CROWES own special blend of Rock n' Roll. CHRIS sings this Blues Rocker with such raw power and emotion just like a Blues singer belts out the Blues.) (2.) "Nobody's Fault But Mine," (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This new live Rocker version is a rendition of the original 1976 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY really shows his expertise during the beginning guitar riffs of this Rocker. RICH and AUDLEY also add some great new touches of new sounds with their masterful guitar playing arrangements during the live performance of this Rocker. CHRIS almost sings this song with the same exact intensity like that of ROBERT PLANT.) (3.) "Heartbreaker," (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This new live Rockin' version is a rendition of the original 1969 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY play some mean guitars during this Rocker. JIMMY plays a very effective guitar solo. CHRIS lets loose with his breathtaking lead vocals.) (4.) "Hey Hey What Can I Do," (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This new live version is a rendition of the original 1970 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. CHRIS sings and pays tribute to ZEPPELIN and ROBERT PLANT with his beautiful blistering lead vocals. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY really let loose playing their guitars during this performance. This is the first ever live performance premiere of this classic ZEPPELIN Rocker.) (5.) "Mellow Down Easy," (Again, this is another well recorded Blues Rocker that kicks a*s. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY add some great touches with their guitar playing arrangements. JIMMY plays a fine lead guitar solo which shows his greatness as a legendary guitar player. CHRIS' voice sounds more husky which sounds totally different singing this song as compared to singing the others.) (6.) "Oh Well," (Again, this is another great legendary Rocker that has the real Rock stuff that is made of legend. This Rocker kicks a*s. This new live Rockin' version is a rendition of the legendary 1970 FLEETWOOD MAC/PETER GREEN classic Rocker. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY really let their guitars run wild with this Rocker. CHRIS sings this song almost as scary as PETER GREEN does.) (7.) "$hake Your Money Maker," (Again, this is another well recorded Blues Rocker that kicks a*s. The whole band plays this ELMORE JAMES Blues Rocker like there is no tomorrow. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY play their guitars like Rock n' Roll is heading for a new invasion. CHRIS gives this Blues Rocker new life with his own special blend of belting out the Blues.) (8.) "You Shook Me," (Again, this is another well recorded Blues number that kicks a*s. This live version is a rendition of the original WILLIE DIXON Blues classic. JIMMY seems mesmerized and plays his guitar with such power and emotion that you almost feel that JIMMY dares to play the exact way he did during his ZEPPELIN days. RICH and AUDLEY contributes and backs up JIMMY perfectly with their own masterful guitar playing arrangements and THE BLACK CROWES own special blend of magic. CHRIS really truly sings the Blues with this Blues number.) (9.) "Out Of The Tiles" (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This legendary live version is a wonderful rendition of the original 1970 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY plays guitar in this classic Rocker like a true legendary guitarist is supposed to play. RICH and AUDLEY both play lead and rhythm guitars respectively. CHRIS sings this song with such raw power and grace that he gives this legendary Rocker some new life. This live Rocker also marks the premiere of this Rocker being performed live in its entirety for the first time.) and (10.) "Whole Lotta Love." (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that does nothing but kick a*s. This blistering live version is a rendition of the original 1969 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. In my opinion, this is one of the best live versions of "Whole Lotta Love" ever recorded. JIMMY really plays his guitar to the maximum and never lets up. RICH and AUDLEY also play their guitars to a maximum and new heights not heard before. CHRIS really sings and carries this legendary Rocker to the next level with his blistering lead vocals. If you close your eyes, you can actually envision "Whole Lotta Love" being performed by the spirit of the MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN.) Overall, this is one hell of a album that is a true testament and a fine tribute to a great band that was truly ahead of their time.
I would like to highly recommend that everyone purchase this legendary album to own as a valuable and important part of their own personal music collection. You are not just purchasing any album, but a priceless gem that is part of Rock history. This historic album is Rock n' Roll history in the making and may not ever be repeated in quite the same way again. This legendary album will definitely stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many more years to come, NOW AND FOREVER.
In closing, JIMMY PAGE & THE BLACK CROWES only lasted life for less than a year. During this time, Rock n' Roll witnessed some of the most magical moments ever caught on tape. Both LED ZEPPELIN and THE BLACK CROWES would add more to their saga and legend after the release of this double Compact Disc album. However, THE BLACK CROWES would have their fair shares of ups and downs and highs and lows that are well publicized and documented. With this in mind, THE BLACK CROWES would break up and disband for quite some years until recently. As I am writing this review, THE BLACK CROWES are in the process of releasing their first new studio album in nearly five years. This new album should be released sometime in 2007. I really do hope that these legendary artists work and play together again in the near future. They just sounded too damn good for their own good. For a brief moment, these artists gave Rock n' Roll a good swift kick in the a*s where it was needed in order to breathe new life into Rock n' Roll. Rock n' Roll needs JIMMY PAGE & THE BLACK CROWES to keep the glorious tradition of Rock n' Roll flowing through everyone's speakers. So here's to you JIMMY, CHRIS, RICH, STEVE, ED, SVEN and AUDLEY. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. Keep On Rockin'. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. JIMMY PAGE & THE BLACK CROWES RULES. R.I.P. JOHN HENRY "BONZO" BONHAM. R.I.P. LED ZEPPELIN (1968-1980) Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever in Rock, John L.

A Nostalgic Return to the Blues.......2006-08-29
I had no idea what to expect when I heard that the two had teamed up. The Black Crowes? All I knew was their cover "Too Hot to Handle" and "Shake Your Money Maker." So the real reason for me buying this may have been Jimmy Page - but it takes two to tango - and incredibly, the Black Crowes made a perfect fit.
LIVE AT THE GREEK is a trip into the heady past of Zep and its roots. Chris Robinson doesn't have quite the same range as Plant - but comes close SURPRISINGLY in spirit and feel. Surprisingly, he FEELS like a young Plant bursting out of the gates. It's not easy singing any Zep song, but Robinson does his best in hitting the high notes. He succeeds on most tracks -like Celebration Day, Out on the Tiles, Sick Again, Custard Pie -but he kinda flops on Heartbreaker. (That's a minor foible though) The band just rocks though and never lets up - twin guitars playing Zep and the blues - creating a full on sound that even Zep couldn't do in its later touring years.
Ironically, the Page-Black Crowes combination evokes much of Zep's early years precisely because of the straight arrangements and the blues covers. More so than Page-Plant could really do. Of course there's no substitute for the real thing, but you can't blame a guy like Jimmy Page for jamming the world's greatest rock songs can you?

Long considered one of the greatest live albums ever recorded, the Who's Live at Leeds was originally edited and packaged to resemble the haphazard state of early-'70s bootlegs, then expanded and sonically upgraded in the mid-1990s. But this deluxe edition finally restores the blistering February 1970 Leeds University concert to its full running length by adding the band's earliest officially available live rendition of the then-fresh Tommy in its entirety. And while it isn't perfect (the Tommy tracks have been moved from their original slot in the show and resequenced to fit onto disc 2 here), this album now takes its place as the best available document of the Who in their truly ferocious prime, trumping the previously available Isle of Wight show (recorded some six months later) in both performance level and sound quality. It also begs a little revisionist pondering: Are these the true godfathers of punk? Pete Townshend's music and chord structures may have often been jazz-based, but they careen with an energy that seems at once feral and superhuman. Roger Daltrey's vocals snarl with palpable grit, while the rhythm section of John Entwistle and Keith Moon thunders menacingly along like an overheated locomotive. The Tommy heard here is still vital and alive, played by a band whose fervent, in-the-moment abandon is a wonder to behold. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
Undeniable.......2007-06-23
Live at Leeds consists of brilliant pop/rock songs and extended hard-rock pieces executed with devastating precision and power. The improvised sections in some of the lengthened songs add to, rather than detract from, their impact. The musical and dynamic interaction between the players is tremendous, bordering on magical, and demonstrates why The Who live were so powerful and exciting. This disc is well recorded with none of the usual live album nonsense: no unnecessary production tricks or fancy mixing theatrics, no goofy special effects, no faked-up crowd over-enthusiasm, or other foolishness; direct and down-to-business, much like the band themselves were at this time.
The recent digital remastering and restoration only adds to the sonic clarity. The added tracks of the Deluxe edition add another top-notch live version of Tommy, sharper than that from the Isle of Wight album, as well as some additional typical Who concert staples of the period. Further, the inclusion of between song banter among the band members and sonic snapshots of the band talking with the audience are an added treat. In short, the expansion of this album gives one a better feel what a full Who concert performance was like during this exciting period, yet still does not detract from its overall undeniable momentum.
Simply put, the best live rock album ever made. Period.

Best Live Rock Album - Ever! Swear to You Know Who..........2007-06-10
The 15 minute montage of 'My Generation' is just an onslaught of the most unbelieveable guitar, bass and drum work. What is another alternative for best live rock album; surely not 'Frampton Alive!' (I think the album title includes the exclamation point, right?) What else? Please do advise, while you buy this album and rock your brain.
Absolutely Incredible.......2007-05-20
This Deluxe Edition is outstanding, both sonically and musically. If you are a fan of The Who, this is a must have. Don't even think twice. Get a copy, buckle in, crank it up, and immerse yourself in the experience only great rock n' roll can provide.
My only complaint is we had to wait so many years for this to be released in its full show glory. Past is past. Grab it now !!
A Classic Album Must Have, "Deluxe" Worthwhile for Tommy.......2007-04-20
All in all, you're not a Who fan if you don't own at least one version of this concert (the original, bootleg, or deluxe version) and this version I highly recommend.
If you're new to the Who, I would recommend this concert first above anything else . . . it captures most everything essential (most importantly, that this is a band all about the live performance).
For hardcore fans who already own Live at Leeds original, this is a worthwhile purchase especially for comparative studies with Live at Leeds Complete.
No, this Deluxe edition isn't "Complete" . . . but it is still, in my opinion, better than the original Live at Leeds album.

Though it was made largely to help disentangle Hendrix from a thorny contractual dispute, 1970's live Band of Gypsys LP--six tracks pulled from four concerts recorded over New Year's Eve and Day in 1969-70--stands as one of Hendrix's most remarkable guitar statements, and an integral part of his recorded legacy. This two-CD set accounts for a large portion of the remainder of those concerts, and though uneven and ragged in spots, it offers some minor revelations. Highlights include a stunning jam in a revamped "Stone Free," "Auld Lang Syne" as only Hendrix could have played it, a playful "Who Knows" with an improvised New Year's lyric, alternate versions of the guitar showcases "Machine Gun" and "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)," and a downright weird "Earth Blues." Drummer Buddy Miles (with bassist Billy Cox, the Band of Gypsys in full) takes the spotlight on the funky--if very out-of-tune--"Stop." Clearly, Hendrix did well to select the cream of these gigs for the far more consistent original Gypsys album. Still, as his legend deepens, thirsty Hendrix devotees will find plenty of refreshment here. --James RotondiCustomer Reviews:

Essential if you already have Band of Gypsys 1.......2007-04-02
I'm astonished that some people criticize the fact that some songs on the first album are not on this one. I would have been annoyed to find too much overlapping of songs on the 2 releases, and the choice as to whether to put an unheard version of a song on the album as opposed to a classic version available everywhere for over 30 years should be a no-brainer.
