Metal Thrashing Makeover.......2007-04-21
I'll admit was a little skeptical when the band announced plans to re-record some Anthrax classics with the new lineup. The old stuff never grabbed me, and it seemed like a bit of a cash grab. After reading some of the band members' statements about The Greater of Two Evils, I decided to give it a shot. All I can say is "I GET IT NOW". These weren't bad songs; they were just missing two very important elements. One was more modern production technology, but the main element was the right vocalist. I can hear you old school Anthrax fans having fits over that statement, but to me (and I suspect many others), the John Bush lineup is the REAL Anthrax. I'm not knocking Joey Belladonna, but all of his albums combined didn't impact me like Sound of White Noise did.
With The Greater of Two Evils, Anthrax reaches all the way back to the Fistful of Metal days and on through the Belladonna albums, giving us all a chance to experience these old songs in a whole new light. Bush's energetic and intense yet still melodic vocal style is such a better fit for Anthrax's brand of thrash, and you can tell he put 110% into recording these songs. The band also sounds amazing. The guys put so much frenetic energy into these songs that you'd never guess they had been playing some of them for two decades.
I know Anthrax got some grief over this release, but I absolutely love it. It gives me a deeper appreciation for both John Bush's vocal style and those early Anthrax albums.
Good but............2006-08-12
Anthrax are the soundtrack to my childhood. Listening to Bush sing Belladona tracks is a little weird, but not bad. I love this, but I think I still prefer to get out the originals. Bush just can't hit those high notes required to pull off these great tracks. The Bush era has produced some off the greatest Anthrax albums of all time (Stomp 442 is THE Best Anthrax album of all time), but there was no real need for this bar novely factor.
Go get the originals, bang your head and love life as a lucky old school metal fan.
P.S. New Core and Nu metal is ultimately pretty boring, go get an education in what metal is supposed to be, Anthrax is an awesome place to start
Good Re-master.......2006-07-15
Scott Ian and the Anthrax crew return to the studio to release the classics re-done, and what comes out is nothing but the best. You'll notice cleaner guitars, more audible bass, better vocals (IMO), and much more of a bite to their music than they had with their early releases.
Every Anthrax fan knows these songs by now, so their is no need to go over them, but I have to say my favorite re-mastered songs are Gung-Ho and Keep it in the Family.
Although this isnt necessary, its definately neat, and is worth checking out. Also get Testaments First Strike Still Deadly, which is also re-masters.
yes, it is worthy of a 5..........2006-03-30
i don't like to give out 5's very often, as that means there is nothing better. in this case, this release is better than a 4, so a 5 is all that's left. if that makes sense to you, then we're off to a good start. one of my fellow reviewers talks of how bad the reocordings/mastering of 80's speed and thrash bands was, and he couldn't be more right. Anthrax, Megadeth, Overkill and others suffered greatly from this sad affliction. (how Metallica avoided it was a miracle). thank god we now have producers and equipment that will do these albums justice, as on this one. excellent mastering, and a crisp, heavy bite (kinda like nice cold beer), are what you'll get here, and the songs and musicianship ain't bad either. this is really one of the better speed/thrash metal cds to come out in awhile. maybe not the best Anthrax release of all time, but you will defintely not be disappointed. peace.
The last official John Bush CD........2006-03-10
I did not buy this when it came out due to the rumors(at the time) that Joey was rejoining the band. For more on this hearbreak, see: www.reunionbashers.com
Check out the link to Bob Mayo's article on integrity in music-really brings the point home. Now with the prospect of John never singing with the band again, I guess I want to make sure I have all the Bushthrax product I can get my hands on before they totally go away. A great send off to the greatest singer they ever had. We'll miss you JB!

A solid album by Evil's Toy.......2000-10-26
After hearing the more recent albums of Evil's Toy first, I was a bit skeptical as to how I would regard XTC Implant. But I shouldn't have worried, because it has an addictive sound of it's own. The beats of the songs here are faster than those found on Human Refuse, Morbid Mind, and the more recent Angels Only!. If you have heard Illusion, you know pretty much what to expect. If you are a long time Evil's Toy fan and do not yet have this album for some reason, go ahead and purchase it. If you are unfamiliar with Evil's Toy, I recommend having a listen to Angels Only!, which is in my opinion their best release.
scarily good!.......1999-04-04
While almost every Evils Toy review tells us that this German duo doesn't add anything new to the genre, this CD is a pure finished electronic music masterpiece! On the XTC Implant the band achieves perfection, creating agressive electronic body music with strong gothic undertones. It's something you can dance to in a club or get depressed to behind the locked door of your room...
Best EBM Album of 1997?.......1999-03-18
It's really cool when a band you know and, well, kinda like comes out with something that totally blows your expectations away. This is what listening to XTC Implant for the first time was like for me. It's simply EBM/Techno at it's best. Those fond of the X Marks the Pedwalk sound will like this guaranteed, as Sevren Ni-Arb helped produce this fine work (and I believe it was recorded in his studio as well), but make no mistake; these two are no XMTP clones. Thorsten Brenda (i think he's the one who's the singer) has simply the best voice in the ebm world, alternating between seething, hissing, singing and droning out this spiteful robotic voice that leaves you in your chair saying "DAMN!". In addition, the programming is crisp, clean and sharp, and the grooves are catchy. As an added bonus, there are a lot of cool vocorder effects for the gearheads like me. All this and more make this my fave ebm recording to come out in 1997, and it's a must for any fan of the genre. Get it NOW! hehe

White Light, White Snow, White Heat..........2004-04-27
About three years ago, eggheaded researchers in Massachusetts determined that severe-weather months present an increased risk for the development of schizophrenia and while you're free to draw your own conclusions, the Midnight Evils hail from Minnesota, where it gets pretty damn cold, and play with a twitching, cracked fury that at times leaves you wondering who signed the release form to free them from their straightjackets and padded cells long enough for a field trip to the studio. The bluesy guitar noodling which kicks off opening track "Bad Machine" is a smokescreen because as soon as you turn your head, someone in the background shouts "play some Skynyrd," and the next thing you know picks are running up guitar strings, drums are getting (...) knocked (...), and singer Jonny Evans (now apparently amicably split from the band) is foaming at the mouth about his baby who inspired the song. Forget what I said earlier about drawing your own conclusions - the Midnight Evils are flat-out nuts (either that or over-caffeinated), straining at the leash and at the stool after being cooped up for eight or nine months of the year, and blowing their collective wad on this revved-up epic wonder. "Straight 'Til Morning" is packed to bursting with buzzing and humming wattage and a storm of white-lit feedback and you'll grow roots sitting around waiting for these guys to come up for air. Oh, to be this young and full of (...) vinegar again... Never pretending to be anything else, songs like "Dirt Demon," "Ain't Got Time For Love," and "5th Avenue Blues" are more vehicles for the Midnight Evils to howl at the moon than actual songs. Producer Tim Kerr has rightfully seen fit to bring the guitars of Stevie (Cooper) and Vandy (Brian Vanderwerf) way up in the mix, finding a happy median somewhere in that black hole between the power-packed boneshake of Angus and Malcolm Young and the festering sonic squalor of Ron Asheton, and the rhythm section of drummer Jesse Tomlinson and bassist Curan Folsom miraculously manage to keep pace while at the same time prevent this bullet train from derailing. The bottom line is there's nothing fancy about the Midnight Evils' plan to grab the rawk by the throat and remove it from life support - if you're reading this chances are you'll agree the simple combination of drums, bass, guitars, and amps turned up to "11" never go out of style - and these wide-eyed harpies from the Land of 10,000 Lakes ram their vision home with all the subtlety of a bump of cocaine, banging, clanging, and screeching their way into your heart. Leave your snow shoes and parka at the door.
Natty Ice and Camel Lights.......2004-01-17
This is a great band out of Minnesota. The energy they give off is amazing. These guys are the real thing. I don't really know what to say besides, just buy it.

+4? More like +2.......2005-02-02
This CD is actually a 2 CD set. These are the actual track listings:
Disc 1:
1. Deathrider
2. Metal Thrashing Mad
3. Caught In A Mosh
4. A.I.R.
5. Among the Living
6. Keep It In The Family
7. Indians
8. Madhouse
9. Panic
10. I Am The Law
11. Belly Of The Beast
12. N.F.L.
13. Be All End All
14. Gung-Ho
Disc 2:
1. Anthrax
2. Lone Justice
3. In My World
I can't figure out why this is labeled "+4 Bonus Tracks." It's more like +2 since the only additional tracks that you get that aren't on the US release are Anthrax and In My World (since Lone Justice is a hidden track on the US release). It's still a great album, but you should at least know what you're getting before you pay the extra money.
As far as the CD goes, I don't have anything profound to say about it that will help you decide to buy it or not. All I can say is, if you're an Anthrax fan, get it. If not, my condolences.

Customer Reviews:
Rock and Roll is alive and well..........2001-03-17
The garageDogs are one of those bands that cannot be easily labeled. Their first album was straight-ahead punk, but their second album pulled in country elements. On The Evils, they've managed to create a lush homage to rock and roll excess without distancing themselves from their punk roots. They've added instrumentation and layering, and, musically, they've never been better. However, the true power of The Evils is its stripped-down lyrical desperation. This album grabs the listener with a combination of poetry, violence, and melancholy that is seldom found in today's music. Check this album out.
and it only gets better.......2000-11-13
the garageDogs have just released their 3rd CD and I couldn't be happier! The Evils is a fantastic CD that demonstrates how the dogs have grown in their musical talents. There is a story being told here and if you listen closely you just might understand. With songs like "Whitney" about family issues and "Drugs" about smoking "too much" tosongs like "Fear" about, well, fear and "the evils", an amazing title track about pure rock 'n roll, there is never a dull moment. A little punky and a little blues, but all Rock 'n Roll. Check out the last track "Closer", it will blow you away.
