Snow Patrol are frequently compared to Coldplay in the press, which seems strange as they write far better songs and do not appear to be quite so self-hating, nor as rich. Their delightfully dour little pop songs do touch on the melancholic side of things, but the lyrics are wonderfully slice-of-life descriptions. Singer/lyricist Gary Lightbody gives a shout-out to Sufjan Stevens when on the punchy "Open Your Eyes" he sings, "The anger swells in my guts." Perhaps a better comparison would be American indie-rock act Sebadoh? Regardless, this band continues to surprise. If you went to see this mixed Scottish/Irish group on tour after hearing their wistful, breakout third album Final Straw, you might have been a bit confused by the rock juggernaut confronting you. Eyes Open is their most straightforwardly rock record yet, and thanks in large part to producer Garret Lee, it's their best. If there was ever perfect music to get lost to while driving around confused about a relationship, this is it. --Mike McGonigal

Album Description

"There are swaggering bands, bands who are in your face. And then there are bands who get hold of you somewhere else. I think it's a heart thing, an intimacy thing. Like you know them and they know you. I think we are one of those bands." So says Snow Patrol singer and chief songwriter Gary Lightbody.

And all the proof you'll need is Snow Patrol's new album Eyes Open, a collection of songs which more than makes good on the promise of its predecessor, 2004's two million selling Final Straw.

Values: beautiful powerful songs underscored by some of the most poignant and telling lyrics in rock. Eyes Open is Snow Patrol's post card from the cliff edge. It's going to be hard to ignore these songs in 2006.

2 out of 5 stars Adolescent pop shlock.......2007-07-17

Could there be a more instantly forgettable group than Snow Patrol? I mean, let me guess -- you heard a couple of songs, they sounded cool, you bought the CD and played it a few times, and how often to you play it now? Ever? Mgawsh, they become so tiresome so quickly. You'll notice how fast even their hits get dropped from radio playlists? The DJs got bored too.

3 out of 5 stars Has some good pop hooks but boring.......2007-07-09

A couple of years ago one of my favorite songs on the radio was Snow Patrol's "Run". The song was addictively melodic. I could not get that song out of my head. Last year they did it again with the single "Chasing Cars". I finally got around to checking out their latest album EYES OPEN. I can't deny that the band has talent in writing catchy pop/rock songs however they have yet to demonstrate that they are capable of diversifying their bland, dull, and predictable pop/rock sound. The cd starts off pretty good but halfway through the cd, the quality of the songs goes south for me. Ballads like "The Finish Line" are pretty weak. I find the vocals on this particular track quite grating on my nerves. I did like the song with Martha Wainwright on vocals. That was a lovely song. Overall Snow Patrol reminds me why I find "alternative" music so wimpy and annoying. Let me just say Snow Patrol is NOT indie rock. It's kinda hard to be considered indie rock when you are on a major recording label.

5 out of 5 stars Tell you what! This sure will have ur EYES OPEN.......2007-07-04

Ok, I really do love Snow Patrol, so when I heard that their new album was out, and heard Chasing Cars on Grey's Anatomy, I really had to get it.
and I was not disappointed. The style is quite different than Final Straw, their previous album, but that made me like it even more. I think it's more alternative rock (more rock) than the last album.
Personally, my favorite song is Hands Open, which is the second song on the cd. All of the songs are preformed by Gary Lightbody . The 8th song on the cd is called Set the Fire to the Third Bar, which is preformed by both Gary Lightbody and Martha Wainwright. This is another of my fav. songs, because both singers harmonize really well together, making it sound awesome.
I love this kind of music, especially Snow Patrol, cause the lyrics are easy to understand, and really make you thing. So take the time to sit back and listen.

5 out of 5 stars Love this album.......2007-07-03

I love this album. I was enamoured of the Chasing Cars song from radio and decided to check out the rest of the CD. I am very pleased with the purchase. In addition to Chasing Cars, You're All I Have and Shut Your Eyes are standout songs. I plan to check out the older albums from Snow Patrol.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent rock/pop music.......2007-06-30

Snow Patrol dishes up a very good pop/rock album. It reminds me of the style of Gin Blossoms and Vertical Horizon. The music ranges from the edgy "You're All I Have" to the ballade "You Could Be Happy". The latter is sung over what sounds like a music box. Personally, the best of the album is the desperate "Set Fire to the Third Bar" about a couple separated by a distance that longs for each other. What is equally satisfying is that there are no bad songs on this album. It remains evenly good with spikes of greatness.

The highlight of the band is singer Gary Lightbody. He's not going to win any awards, but he is a very competent singer that sounds good in front of the full band to over a simple acoustic guitar. His voice is pure with no signs of studio manipulation or massive overdubbing to mask intonation or tonal issues.

The lyrics on the album are very good. They would be great as a teenager pining over love lost or broken. But, Gary stays away from the common cliches, sappiness, or just stupidity. Instead he has penned some smart lyrics for a genre not known for smart lyrics.

The production on the album is perfectly fine. It could use a bit more brightness and a little more bass. It comes across as slightly flat but EQ seems to fix it pretty well. Otherwise it was recorded clean without overproduction. It sounds like this band should be able to reproduce its sound pretty well live.

Overall I give Snow Patrol's Eyes Open a 20 out of 25, or B+. It's relatively disposable music that is well done and deserves a few months in your CD player.

There's nothing like a breakup to focus your muse. This follow-up to the stunning, multi-platinum Fallen was penned as singer Amy Lee's troubled romance with bandmate Ben Moody was spiraling out of control, impelling her to craft an anxious record full of recriminations, revelation, and self-flagellation, as she questioned everything that kept her whole. It's a fascinating journey for the listener as she ventures into her own personal heart of darkness, her stricken, perfect voice suspended on an unsteady precipice between breakdown and breakthrough. Despite the loss of two members, including guitarist Moody who left mid-tour in 2003, the album has a maturity, sophistication, and a singular vision that wasn't found in their earlier work. Stately and as exotic as Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, with its intricate instrumentation, disturbing imagery, and disembodied chorus, The Open Door shows exactly what this band is capable of. "Snow White Queen" is a goth-y alternative to Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together," equally anthemic, but with much more grit and pain. --Jaan Uhelszki

5 out of 5 stars ...Wow.......2007-07-19

I've always heard of this group but never heard any of their songs until a few months ago. I heard Sweet Sacrifice. Going through a hard time with my boyfriend, it felt good that someone else was belting out my pain and frustration. I even downloaded some older songs later like Going Under and My Immortal (Okay, not a hard rock song but beautiful all the same).

3 out of 5 stars Not as solid as previous efforts.......2007-07-17

This CD is not bad, but it does not reach the same level as 'Fallen'. There are some interesting musical ideas in evidence (such as Lacrymosa), but they do not quite succeed in execution (the obvious looping of the background Lacrymosa clip is extremely distracting.) Overall, the songs seem to lack a certain balance in execution that makes them both interesting and disappointing at the same time.

5 out of 5 stars The best album ever?.......2007-07-16

The very best album in my rather extensive Rock collection, which goes back as far as Cream. Nothing less than outstanding from first note to last, it just goes to show that some of the best music every made is being produced today (albeit in smaller quantities than the '70's).

Strongly recommend buying all three Evanescence albums to date! With original albums like these, no need for a "Best of" compilation.

5 out of 5 stars worth the wait.......2007-07-12

This album was completely worth the wait . Amy lee covers all points on the spectrum and her voice is amazing to say the least.from Sweet sacrifice all the way through to good enough, thers not a bad song on this cd in my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars What a genius!.......2007-07-11

Amy Lee is fantastic--far from overrated! What a great album--not only is she a prodigy in terms of musical composition, but her lyrics are poetic. She puts on a great live show, too--real stuff. Any rock guitarist, like myself, would be lucky to be in her band. She's a feminist--get over it. ;) Everybody should be.

The major-label debut from this Texas trio proves their instrumental abilities, blending more traditional twang with slow melodic blues, foot-tapping rockabilly, and bluegrass-inspired pop harmonies. From the opener, "I Can Love You Better," the Chicks let their love of music and genuine joy shine through while the energy on this album reminds one of Carlene Carter. Solid musicianship, topnotch vocal performances, and infectious pop hooks make this a stellar project. --Paula Ghergia

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of the best debuts every.......2007-06-19

This debut album by the Dixie Chicks is truly great. It is true country music [with fiddles and all!] but is very accessible and enjoyable for people who like other genres. I was gonna give a list of the better songs, but they're most all good tunes. This is before the Chicks got jammed up in Iraq War politics [not all their own fault]; back when they were renowned as good musicians, which they undoubtedly are, as a listen to this CD proves.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2007-06-13

This is definitely one of my favorite CDs. The Dixie Chicks manage to mix incredible vocal and instrumental talent with meaningful lyrics and catchy melodies. Here's a guide, song-by-song:

1. I Can Love You Better -- an easy to relate to song that'll make you want to sing along with its catchy beat.

2. Wide Open Spaces -- Something everybody can relate to, especially teenagers. The melody is nice, but it's the lyrics that really make this song special.

3. Loving Arms -- this song is different from some of the other ballads on the CD, because of the fact that while it is a classic country ballad, it is not drawn out to all eternity. Beautiful lyrics and a lovely melody make it one of my favorites.

4. There's Your Trouble -- definitely my favorite song on the disc. Pure fun, and very catchy. You'll find yourself playing it again and again.

5. You Were Mine -- in my opinion, the worst song on this CD. While the words ARE meaningful, they are depressing and drawn out forever and ever. Every word seems to be held out for ages, and the lyrics are sad to the point of being corny. Perhaps the only song that I wasn't impressed with.

6. Never Say Die -- a sweet, romantic song.

7. Tonight The Heartache's On Me -- if you're not into hard-core country, than skip over this track, which celebrates classic country music. I personally love it for it's traditional melody.

8. Let 'Er Rip -- a ton of fun, with lots of attitude and spunk.

9. Once You've Loved Somebody -- a beautiful melody with meaningful lyrics.

10. I'll Take Care of You -- the second worst song on the album, while the words are nice I had little patience to listen to the almost four minutes of this drawn out ballad.

11. Am I The Only One (Who's Ever Felt This Way) -- a very relatable song with a great guitar melody.

12. Give It Up Or Let Me Go -- a ton of fun, very enjoyable.

You should definitely give this CD a try!

5 out of 5 stars I love this album!!.......2007-05-07

This is my favoite album to play in the car. I listen to it over and over. I love the political overtones, but the music is great, too!! I am not a Country Music fan, but I love this album.

1 out of 5 stars a bigger flip flop than Kerry.......2007-03-24

The country music crowd built the Chicks up, then they went to England and showed their true side. As a result country music lovers, true to their country, turned on the Chicks; so now the Chicks say that their music isn't country. I say that their music isn't music but it just noise.

4 out of 5 stars Knee deep snow.......2006-10-16

Folk-popster Leslie Feist garnered a lot more attention with her second solo album, "Let it Die." Now she follows it up with "Open Season," which is basically a lot of odds and ends -- remixes, B-sides, and alternate versions. Sure, not everything is absolutely perfect, but it's a good little album of bits and pieces.

It opens on a quiet note with a piano version of "One Evening," which is basically a pretty, downbeat little instrumental. Things start to kick off with the acoustic-driven "Inside and Out (Apostle of Hustle Unmix," which brings it down to gritty guitar-driven melodies. Okay, whatever, but not exactly my cup of tea.

But the remixes are good stuff -- "Mushaboom" gets done over and over, whether it's a perky pop melody, a heavier techno-laced one, an almost wordless mix by VV, or the peak of the album -- Postal Service's delicate trip-hop remix. There's also the murky "Lonely Lonely (Frisbee'd Mix)," a jazzy "Gatekeeper" remix, and a funky redone "When I Was a Young Girl."

There are also some songs that haven't been heard on her regular album: the dreamy "Snow Lion" with Readymade FC, the trippy French "Tout Doucement," the taut ballad "Simple Story" with Jane Birkin," and the naughty-edged "Lovertits" (well, what did you expect with that title?) with Gonzales.

Most albums of B-sides and remixes are pretty much half-and-half. Fortunately, Feist scores higher with an almost perfect array of remixes, and four excellent individual songs. Don't expect the same sound as "Let it Die," though -- the folkpop sound can only be found in a couple of songs here, like the full mix of "Gatekeeper" and the unmix of "Inside and Out."

Instead, we get all sorts of remixes -- jazz, funk, trip-hop, hard electro, and even "One Evening" pared down to a single piano melody. And the songs get a bit of a twist, with everything from skipping vocals to crunching snow to scratching vinyl. Sometimes you'd hardly even know they were the same song, except for the occasional cry of "Mushaboom!"

And fortunately Feist never gets lost in all this remixing, unmixing and reworking. Her clear, fresh voice cuts through all the beats and extra instruments. But she sounds best in the four original songs, with rippling piano, harp and some blippy sound effects. "Tout Doucement" is especially charming -- it sounds like a French cafe at happy hour.

"Open Season" won't give anyone reason to fire at Feist. Her odds and ends sound wonderfully polished, with only a few rough diamonds left over.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful .......2006-09-08

"The evening was long
My guesses were true
You saw me see you
That something you said
The timing was right"

Playful in beauty, Feist's Open Season is a mingling of richly orchestrated sounds and remixes. One Evening (solo piano) is striking in its ornate textures even in the straightforward solo version. The Remix later in the album is hardly recognizable and the mood more sultry.

Inside and Out has dreamy lyrics, but is edgy in acoustic musical exploration. Snow Lion reminds me of Magnet's laid-back albums and the beauty melts into a subtle discordance on a moonlit landscape. The Mushaboom Mocky remix seems the best of the versions on this album, but I still prefer the original song from the Let it Die album recorded in Paris.

"You treat me like a vision in the night
Someone there to stand behind you
When your world ain't working right
I ain't no vision, I am the girl
who loves you inside and out"

A better introduction to Leslie Feist would be the Let it Die album, but this one might make you curious and interested enough to listen to all her music.

Amazon.com essential recording

Happy is the composer who has an advocate as passionate and talented as Leonard Bernstein. These Copland performances have been the preferred versions since they were first issued--better even than the composer's own, later recordings. Originally they were spread over two discs, but thanks to the extended playing time of the compact disc, you can now get all three great Copland ballets together, along with the ever popular Fanfare for the Common Man. Bernstein brings to this music the right sharpness of rhythm but also a typically open-hearted warmth. He coaxes a virtuoso response from the New York Philharmonic, which knows this music as well (or better) than anyone. Self- recommending. --David Hurwitz

5 out of 5 stars What more could one ask for?.......2007-06-27

Aaron Copland's masterful works are here interpreted by Bernstein. Nothing says the American sound like Copland, and there is no better interpreter than Bernstein. This recording is one of the best in my collection. I would recommend this to anyone (even non-classical music fans).

3 out of 5 stars Definitive Is Right.......2007-02-27

I have the SACD version of these recordings (except for the "Fanfare" which, in this case, is the version taken from Bernstein's recording of Copland's Third Symphony) and I must agree with others here that the performances are definitive. The "Rodeo" has more energy than any other recording I know of, in fact it can almost go over the top! "Billy the Kid" is quiet and tender, dramatic and bold and "Appalachian Spring" is dead-on. The last section of this ballet is one of my very favorite pieces of music and Bernstein's tempo and phrasing here could well be called perfect.

5 out of 5 stars Definitive Recordings of Copland's Popular Ballet Scores From Bernstein, NYPO.......2007-02-11

Without question, this splendid CD is my favorite recording of some of Aaron Copland's most popular orchestral ballet scores. In Leonard Bernstein he had both a good friend and a devout ally, who successfully championed Copland's music, helping to ensure his reputation as one of the greatest - if not the greatest - 20th Century American composer. Sony has done a superb job in digitally remastering this recording, offering some of the best sound I've heard from a vintage Leonard Bernstein/New York Philharmonic recording. But more importantly than the recording's superb sonic quality is the quality of these performances of Copland's scores. Bernstein leads in New York Philharmonic in these virtuoso performances, replete with lush, vibrant playing from the winds, horns and strings. His warm, truly heart-felt interpretation of "Applachian Spring" is truly mesmerizing, and the best I have heard from a recording. And yet, I am am just as impressed with his conducting of both "Rodeo" and "Billy the Kid"; the latter replete with superb solos from the orchestra's timpanist. An elegant performance of "Fanfare for the Common Man" closes out this CD recording. Fans of Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra shouldn't hesitate in acquiring this superb CD.

5 out of 5 stars American Music at its Highest .......2007-02-04

If I was forced to recommend one CD of American music, I would feel very safe in backing this one. These interpretations have yet to be surpassed, and not even Copland himself could muster the same type of perfection that Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic did in this recording. Bernstein's way with Rodeo is unbelievable, and this alone is worth the price of the disc. The music on this recording has a lot to do with why, as Americans, we can all be proud of our place in the history of western music.

With 39 reviews under me, I will dispense with the adjectives to try and describe each interpretation of each piece on this disc, and simply say that these performances have been recommended by almost everyone (professional critics included of course) since they appeared; get it and find out why.

5 out of 5 stars The best of Copland.......2007-01-09

For the Aaron Copland fan, this CD has the essentials: the most popular and easy listening of the Copland body of creations. Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Preaching put to music.......2007-07-14

To be honest, I didn't like this CD when I first played it. It needed to grow on me a little bit. I have the same problem with this album that I did with the last one. The raps were good, but the music could use a little work. I still gave this one 4 stars though because the music is a little better than his last CD and the lyrics are too. This is one CD where those little 30 second clips you get to hear online will not do it any justice. That's because there are songs on here that when you first hear them, you may not like them because of the music, but when you hear what he's talking about, you'll still want to hear the song because of what he's saying. Like most people, I edit people's CDs when I put them on my MP3 player. Usually at most only 4 or 5 songs make the cut. With this album, I'm going to have to put about 8 or 9 of em on there because just about every time I heard a song that I was thinking about skipping (because I didn't particularly care for the music), I said nahh, I can't skip this one because he said so and so.

I like the fact that Da Truth is a pure gospel rapper. He gives you pure word and preaching. He always gives the glory to God and never to himself. He never talks about how good he raps or how much money he has. And unlike his friend Ambassador (who's beats are better by the way) he doesn't seem like he's trying to justify to the church why he does what he does. He just gives the word to his audience and keeps it moving. Even though I'm almost 10 years older than him, I want to be like him when I grow up.

Another interesting thing about this CD is that he was VERY transparent. He exposed himself on this CD like the guy that ran across the field naked during the Super Bowl. Young people need to hear this CD because they need to know that Christians are not perfect, but at the same time, we have a high calling and are striving to reach perfection.

Every young person should hear and take heed to what is said on this CD. If there is anyone out there that has a young person in their life and is trying to reaching them with the right message but is not sure how to do it, buy this CD and give it to them. Because they're not going to buy it themselves. Music is very powerful. The same way secular music is being used to destroy our youth, this can be used to turn someone's life around.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing!.......2007-07-11

This album, quite simply, is among the top five rap albums I've ever heard. I love tracks 2,3,5 (ft. Trip Lee...unbelievably awesome), and last but not least the track "Open Book" which is extremely powerful and is a great song in general. Da T.R.U.T.H. uses this album to explain to the listeners that every second of every day is written in your book and that God knows every thought and action. Thus, we, as Christians should value every second of our lives and never forget that God is watching. Get this album...you will not be dissatisfied in the least!

5 out of 5 stars Da' T.R.U.T.H. is lyrically on POINT!.......2007-07-11

Da' T.R.U.T.H. really is transparent on this album and raps truly from his heart. His messages are sincere and each track is lyrically sound. Open Book is lyrically an "open book" where he challenges listeners to consider how their personal lives (OPEN BOOK) would read if read by others. Fans of Da' T.R.U.T.H. will love this album because of its variety. He has collaborations with CMR Artist (Tonic, Ambassador, Tia Pittman), Reach Records Artist (Trip Lee), Tye Tribbett, Donnie McClurkin, TWyse, Izzy, and Lisa McClendon.

His music is a great, positive alternative to secular artist that rap primarily about themselves, gold teeth and material possessions. I personally think this is his best album to date. I strongly believe that those who love Christian rap/hip-hop and are mature in the faith will enjoy this album. Also, I challenge those new to the Christian lifestyle to have an open mind and focus on self-examination through GOD's WORD (Galatians 6:1-10). Grace and peace, <> <

5 out of 5 stars Very good.......2007-06-26

This is my first shamanic music CD that I bought and I am quite happy I picked this one so I will probably be getting the Shamanic Dream II soon as well. The music on this CD is perfect for winding down after a hard day at work and for attuning to the earth energies. I usually listen to this CD with my eyes closed and at some point during my listening session, my eyes start to move rapidly which is called REM (rapid eye movement) and is indicative of a high theta state. My mind becomes much quieter and I feel deeply relaxed. So this CD is very suitable for meditaiton practice. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite yoga CD.......2007-06-08

I am a yoga teacher and this is my favorite CD to teach to. Shamanic Dream features two, half-hour tracks which are extremely hypnotic and relaxing, and help to promote a feeling of meditation. The first track has a steady drum beat which feels like a heart beat. I find it to keep a great beat which makes you want to have a rhythmic, engaging yoga flow practice. The second track is similar, but features insect noises that are extremely relaxing. You can float away listening to the insect hum. That might sound annoying, but it is very relaxing. There are no vocals on the CD. I frequently teach to this CD, and use it for my home practice, and I never get tired of it.

5 out of 5 stars I use this CD in my practice.......2007-05-13

This is a great CD to play while doing Reiki on clients.

5 out of 5 stars There are not enough stars in your listing..........2007-05-07

There are not enough stars in your choices for ratings to say how good this CD is. I was transported by the subtle qualities of the sounds. As a meditation aid it is absolutely transporting. I first played it while driving and it was almost dangerous because I was hypnotized by it. I really had to pay attention to the road.
If you are looking for an aid to meditation I recommend this CD. I will be using it a lot. I will also use it for other areas as well. It is such an uplifting piece of music.

5 out of 5 stars Sublime.......2007-03-06

Both volumes of this title are top notch. The sound is rich and quietly rhythmic. The inclusion of vocals blends perfectly with the instrumentation. And while the sound is hypnotic and relaxing, it is never monotonous. My only regret is each time a track ends...

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars John Rutter Collection.......2007-02-19

This CD is one of several that features Rutter directing his own choir. It has a good cross section of the John Rutter compositions, and is a good starting place for someone who has not heard Rutter's music before. I think you will be "hooked" if you really love choral music.

4 out of 5 stars Typically gorgeous Rutter.......2005-12-20

I love John Rutter's music. Especially the "For the Beauty of the Earth" that is on this CD. Rutter is not the most inventive or varied composer of modern music, but if you have a taste for traditional choral writing with some angelic children's chorus singing, then you will probably share my enjoyment of Rutter's writing. Unfortunately I cannot give this CD 5 stars when it seems there is a drum set tapping annoyingly away on several of the songs. I do not understand this at all and am bothered by it every time I listen to those songs. It's a shame, because otherwise I love the music, and think it is lushly written, and simply but beautifully performed. I would highly suggest listening to sample track 3 before purchasing -- you can hear what sounds like a ride-cymbal right at the very end of the sample. This sound occurs in several of the songs on this recording.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2005-12-03

I am a huge John Rutter fan. The lilting melodies, the poignant lyrics and the lush orchestrations make his music not only accessable but also uplifting. This compilation, although drawing from many other previous recordings, is a great composite of his wirk. The sound is exquisite. Even if you own other recordings of this music, this is worthwhile.

5 out of 5 stars To sample Rutter's best music, this is the one........2005-06-30

I purchased this CD as an introduction to the music of John Rutter and went on to purchase many more of his compositions. Still, this remains my favorite collection. It is choral music at its absolute finest. Far from "just church music", this CD has songs of faith, a few Christmas carols, a Celtic song for lovers, and even a child's tune or two. While most of the pieces are peaceful, warm, and thought-provoking, a few are up-tempo and lively. In my opinion, it is a perfectly balanced collection in which one song flows beautifully into the next with no sense of a jarring change of pace. If you have any interest in choral music, begin with the best...John Rutter... and this superb arrangement. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars The Best.......2005-04-29

The John Rutter Collection in my opinion is one of the finest and most perfect works I've ever heard. The Cambridge Singers demonstrates the best vocal discipline and style of any vocal group in the world.

5 out of 5 stars classic rock returning in the 90's.......2007-06-25

Tom Petty is one of the few artists who've actually improved their songwriting skills as the years went on. I love Into the Great Wide Open. It's a solid collection of memorable songs. Somehow, Petty's ability to write catchy melodies has improved compared to his late 70's/early 80's days when the music he wrote back then was just acceptable, or above average. Into the Great Wide Open is truly a great album, from beginning to end.

5 out of 5 stars Petty at his best.......2007-05-15

Just a great great album or CD. A must have even
if you don't like Petty you will like this one.

5 out of 5 stars "I Don't Know How, I Don't Know When, But We Will Meet Again!".......2007-03-29

This cd, a bit unexpectedly, has become one of my all-time favorite Tom Petty albums. Of course, "Learning To Fly" and the title track are bonfide classics that still can be heard on the radio, but there are some real hidden gems here that I am still wondering why they didn't become hit singles. These include the inspiring "We Will Meet Again", the powerful "Two Gunslingers" and also "King's Highway." In fact, there is not a bad song on the whole album. This is one of those dics that after one or two listens, you'll have most of the songs memorized. I did! One of TP's most overlooked projects, but one every Petty fan should hear.

5 out of 5 stars Into The Great Wide Open - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.......2007-03-08

A must have for your Petty collection. Every song is great, just put in the cd and let it play, no skipping around to the best tracks, they're all good!!One of my favorites from my high school times of being dazed and confused!I HIGHLY recommend this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Petty at his and The Heartbreakers' best.......2006-12-06

This album is a collage of very well-written songs based upon a real-life relationship between two people begun partially due to some of the tunes on Full Moon Fever. It is a masterpiece in every sense of the word, including the final cut (Built To Last), which was a prayer for happiness.. one which unfortunately did not come about as hoped. Tom Petty and the band deserve great accolades for this work, much more than they have gotten. It is simply a gorgeous album, a good work of art, and a testament to the best of the human spirit.
