Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars It's okay.......2007-02-19

But not what I expected. The music on this album has a more futuristic, new age feel than what I expected for something inspired by LOTR, which would have been more celtic-folk-bagpipe style music akin to David Arkenstone. The music is somewhat repetitive in its motifs and I actually got bored with it and turned it off. Of course, everyone has their own conception of what LOTR should "sound like," so if you like more modern-sounding "ancient" music, this album might be for you.

1 out of 5 stars An Amatuerish Mess.......2004-12-21

Like many, I am enchanted by all things Middle Earth, and I will buy almost anything marked "inspired by." I am also a big David Arkenstone fan, and bought this shortly after getting his Middle Earth CD. I had high hopes, and am rather forgiving if I can feel where the composer and artist is coming from.

That said, this CD is an awful mess. Most of these songs are jumble of jangling guitars/harps or whatever synth patches they used. They have little discernible melody and no motion.

I hadn't listened to the CD in a few months, so I popped it in again yesterday, thinking perhaps I'd just had a bad day or eaten something that didn't agree with me last time. No such luck. I couldn't even finish it this time. Sorry to those who have posted positive reviews, but there is much, much, much better out there.

5 out of 5 stars The Musical Magic of the Rings.......2004-10-27

As a huge Tolkien and fantasy genre fan I am really enjoying this title from Everstar. It's clear from the cover art that this band is comprised entirely of Elvin beings with a little help from producers David & Steve Gordon, whose music I also really admire. These tracks depict the musical adventures of Frodo and company as they move through Middle Earth on their continuing journey in their quest to defeat the dark powers of the Ring. This music practically sparkles with enchantment and is sure to be enjoyed by fans of the Ring epic as well as listeners who just enjoy good Celtic based music. Put on your headphones and let yourself be transported to another world.

3 out of 5 stars Everstar.......2004-08-05

This is not a bad release but unfortunatelly in Europe the promotion for this releases is zero! Sequoia Records is responsable for this lack of interest...

5 out of 5 stars Great CD, although not necessary of Middle Earth.......2004-04-17

This is a great collection of beautiful music, which I thoroughly enjoy listening to. I would have to say that it does not necessarily transport me to Middle Earth in the sense of the Hobbit and LOTR storylines, which I feel are better interpreted by David Arkenstone; however, from the perspective of a collection of elvish music, not tied to a particular story, it touches the soul.

      4 out of 5 stars Now that's talent.......2007-03-30

The Last EMP is one of the most talented emcees of this time. Deep with concepts, ability and versatility. This offering from him captures a large part of his potential. The Last EMP can carry an album himself if one only listens to the lyrics independent of production. He has skills like that. Song wise this album shows many some of the many different styles the Emp has in his aresenal, it could have been more cohesive but I hear the Emp is working on his second album and the production is closer the The EMP's lyrical ability, so watch out for album two!

5 out of 5 stars The greatest album no one knows about? Probably........2006-10-20

The Last Emperor made his name on the Lyricists Lounge albums, an series of albums dedicated to hip-hop heads connected with the underground. He wasn't a prominent feature on these albums, hence there wasn't a whole lot of hype for his debut album. Working against Last Emp even more, he couldn't even get it out on Rawkus, where it'd have moved more units; he had to go with a very cheap label to publish and distribute his music for him. By the time Music, Magic, Myth was released, not only was it scarce in any store, but even some of the most dedicated hip-hop heads had no idea who this cat was.

Last Emp showed his brilliance on the Secret Wars saga, which can be found on the bonus disc of this album. The chosen few who did know this cat's skills were anxious to hear how well he'd do on a solo album; and thus, this masterpiece was given to us. But are there even more than a thousand people out there who've heard this album? It'd shock me. I'm shocked to see this album has the sixteen reviews it does on it, and also very pleased that this album, at the very least, reached some heads; because anyone who is a fan of hip-hop deserves to own this album.

It's musical perfection; from start to finish, nearly cracking in at an hour long, Last Emp doesn't let up. He is the most passionate emcee I've ever heard on the mic; if you thought Shakur's delivery was powerful, you haven't heard anything yet. His lyrics are leagues above most cats in the game, including some of the most revered lyricists; on a straight-up lyrics tip, I'd only put him behind Immortal Technique and the GZA. The thing is, unlike the aforementioned CD, who are politically charged(Tech), or throwing poisonous darts(GZA), Last Emp is the soft-spoken poet who spills his heart out onto his music. He drops knowledge, science, mathematics, whatever you want to call it, all over this release. He has the vocabulary of a college professor, and the heart of a warrior.

There are so many powerful cuts on here, it's hard to single any out; but tracks seven and eight are my absolute favorites. Track seven is One Life featuring the late Too Poetic; who was literally dying as he recorded this song. Too Poetic's words are enough to bring a tear to the eyes of even the most stubborn individual, as he retells the phsyical pain he's suffering with his intricate storytelling. Despite nothing being able to top Poetic's verse, Emp's is powerful in its own right, as he questions religion, and life after death like no other emcee can in his verse. Track eight is Meditate, and it's spine-tingling; the Buddhist monk hymms in the background create a very atmospheric piece of production, and Last Emperor drops verse after verse of dopeness.

The Last Emperor's debut(and unfortunately, only album at this point) is just as important as the Illmatics, Ready To Dies, and Reasonable Doubts of this world. If you can find this, do yourself a huge favor, and pick it up; i promise you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars One verse says it all.......2006-09-28

This album is absolutely amazing but the third verse on the track "Karma" blew me away the first time I heard and still blows me away each time I hear it. I cannot belive someone wrote that verse and incorporated it into a hip hop song. If that verse alone does not make you feel like you made a great purchase then the rest of this well crafted album certainly well. I want to hear another album!

5 out of 5 stars MUSIC, MAGIC, MYTH, IS NO MYTH OF MAGICAL MUSIC.......2006-01-09

THIS ALBUM IS COMPLETELY THOUGHT PROVOKING, FIRST RATE MUSIC AT IT'S FINEST, AND THE LEGEND HIMSELF IS BACK TO WHIP THE RAP SCENE BACK INTO THE SHAPE IT BELONGS IN. LAST EMPEROR GIVES PAUSE FOR THOUGHT WITHOUT THE TAUDY BRAINLESS DRIVLE LIKE TODAY'S CLONE RAPPERS, WHO APPARENTLY HAVE LESS ENTERTAINMENT VALUE THAN THE HALF HOUR OF INFOMERCIALS FROM THE "TIME LIFE- BEST OF THE 70'S COLLECTION" HAVE TO OFFER.
BUT, EMP KNOWS THAT. THAT IS WHY HE MADE AN ALBUM SO GOOD THAT PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO PAY OVER $30.00 TO GET IT. WOULD YOU PAY THAT MUCH FOR A 50 CENT ALBUM? NO, I DON'T THINK YOU WOULD. YOU WOULD NEED SIXTY 50 CENT'S TO PAY FOR ONLY ONE EMP. AND RIGHTFULLY SO. LET'S VIEW LAST EMP'S ALBUM SHALL WE.

            Album Description

Enter a secret world - In an enchanted garden, fairies and fireflies weave their stories of myth and mystery. The angelically haunting voice of London-based vocalist Alquimia blends exquisitely with the dreamy symphonic landscapes, shimmering harp, flute and piano sounds of German composer Gleisberg. Both are well-established artists in Europe who are known for their live performances during the popular summer festival season. Together they take you on a regal-ethereal journey in the tradition of Enya, Gary Stadler and Adiemus yet with their own unique spellbinding style. Alquimia's romantically poetic lyrics and bewitching vocals seem to dance upon Gleisburg's luxuriantly orchestrated and artfully layered arrangements. The result is a special magic that will caress your heart with a dreamy rhapsody of a long-forgotten time when magic was real. Come along with them, close your eyes and the veil is lifted into an unseen world of timeless beauty and heaven-touched reverie.

"With their first album for Sequoia, gifted songstress Alquimia and composer Rudiger Gleisberg transport listeners to a place of fairytales, folklore and daydreams. GARDEN OF DREAMS has the same sort of enchanting, Celtic-inspired quality that has made Gary Stadler's fairy-themed albums so popular. The ethereal soundscapes feature an exquisite blend of harp, piano, orchestral strings and keyboard, all interwoven by Gleisberg to create a place of magic and mysticism. Alquimia's vocals are fragile and pure, yet filled with an intoxicating sort of warmth and emotion that grabs your attention and lulls you into a dreamy reverie. If you recognize Alquimia's name, it may be from the compilations she has appeared on, including both CAFE DE LUNA albums." ~ Music Design In Review

This new release from Alquimia and Rudiger Gleisberg is just magical. Classical in feeling and flair, each song sparkles with playful fairy brilliance. I'm a big fan of anything that has to do with fiaries and the Celtic tradition. These songs each tell a delightful story filled with the mythic that carries you away into mysterious realms. I put this on when I want to eascape into my own world of fantasy....which is often. Pure magic. I love it.
