Dance into the light and dance to the songs!.......2006-01-09
Dance With Phil!.......2005-11-01
"Dance Into the Light" the title track is a very happy uptempo song, it sound like "Hand in Hand" from Face Value but this time around with lyrics and even more dance feeling. It was a rather big hit in Europe in 1996. "That's What I said" is a good old Collins song, a midtempo rock-pop song about love. "Lorenzo" is what's new with Collins on this album, it's a world music song with African infleunted drums and sound all over it. Sound like taken from "The Lion King" or something. "Just Another Story" is jazzy with piano and horns, but melancholy. I like this song alot. "Love Police" is a uptempo song, not the best here but alright. "Wear My Hat" was a minor hit, and it's rather unique. Sound like taken from the movie "The Mask" or somnthing. It's funny and catchy, surprising that Collins released it. "It's in Your Eyes" is a ballad, one of few here. "Oughta Know by Now" is a midtempo with 80's feeling, with drums, horns, synths and a awesome guitar solo. "Take me Down" sound like "My Hat". "The Same Moon" is another ballad, musically it's very beautiful with a guitar solo. "River So Wild" follows the Africa path. "No Matter Who" is a midtempo song, quite forgettable but ok. Last song "The Times they're A Changin" is a Bob Dylan cover, he does it very well with a cathcy 90's feeling to it. Collins make it his own.
Overall, a great comeback afer "Both Sides". This album experience a new side of Collins again with world music and many catchy uptempo songs. This album is rather underrated, cause it's beautiful to listen to but also entertaining with it's immense diversity. If you liked older albums, I'm sure you will enjoy this one aswell.

The album's title track and apparently, the only hit from this album. This is a great song.
THAT'S WHAT YOU SAID
Not bad.
LORENZO
Great song.
JUST ANOTHER STORY
Not bad.
LOVE POLICE
Not bad.
WEAR MY HAT
Not bad.
IT'S IN YOUR EYES
Great song.
OUGHTA KNOW BY NOW
Not bad.
TAKE ME DOWN
First, Phil Collins wanted you to Take Him Home. Now, he wants you to Take Him Down. Great song.
SAME MOON
Not bad.
RIVER SO WIDE
Not bad.
NO MATTER WHO
Not bad.
THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN'
A cover of the old Bob Dylan classic. I never liked this song because I've always hated Bob Dylan.
As I stated before, this album was not what I hoped it would be. I was hoping for something more than this, but the album gets four stars, a high rating in my opinion. But I am still going to ask all Phil Collins fans to add DANCE INTO THE LIGHT onto their list if they didn't already. So, get this album now.

Darkness into Light is the title of this new Anonymous 4 CD, and, indeed, many of the works refer to the perils and glory, religiously speaking, of the former and the latter, respectively. Sprinkled within the eight 12th- to 14th-century hymns, all beautifully performed and interestingly varied in tone and use of voices, are four works by the contemporary British composer John Tavener, one of which is receiving its recorded premiere and was composed for Anonymous 4 and the Chilingirian Quartet. It is called "The Bridegroom," and in its 17-plus minutes examines the metaphor of Christ-as-Bridegroom, with the strings standing for Christ and the four voices, in the words of the composer, for "the people of the world, full of that longing which is a kind of Divine eros." Be that as it may, it contains some wonderful high-lying vocal lines, many short, phrases and a series of long-held, fading-out notes. The effect is very interesting and the string quartet adds to the mystery. The other three Tavener works are in the same vein. Whether or not one subscribes to Tavener's only occasionally convincing brand of religiosity, the performances here--of his music and the rest--are gorgeous, as the Anonymous 4 sing with their usual combination of abundance and absolute purity--an odd combination, but a unique one. The ear is constantly enchanted here, even if one finds the ancient piety more appealing, universal, and convincing than the modern. --Robert LevineCustomer Reviews:

A Beauty that aches.......2004-02-20
This album struck me much the same way Palestrina's Pope Marcellus mass struck me the first time I heard it. It's the kind of music that makes you lean back with your mouth open; wordless at the music that would be too divinely beautiful to touch if you could see it. It makes me whisper soft praises at the sheer love that God has inspired in certain musicians.
I like the medieval songs interspersed with Tavener's pieces. A perfect combination.
Heavenly music without equal.......2003-12-15
DARKNESS INTO LIGHT's "subtitle" if you will is MEDIEVAL & MODERN--A MYSTICAL JOURNEY. I could think of no better way to describe the mood these works set: you do feel a sense of mystery and anticipation as you "journey" from one hymn to the next. I use the word hymn in the general sense, as the works have more than just a liturgical or religious sound that comes forth upon listening again and again. I literally get chills and am enthralled in particular by the Tavener selections presented here (Come and do Your will in me is I believe the most beautiful choral work of Tavener's and the most beautiful permformance I have heard from Anonymous 4 ever!)
Anonymous 4 in collaboration with the Chilingirian Quartet lavish great care and passion on these four pieces as they do with the entire album. The Tavener works are certainly the highlight if you are a devoted collector of his music as I am.
Not only is the singing and musicianship of both quartets astounding, the packaging for the CD is itself quite attractive and informative. Harmonia Mundi has placed the CD within a book that opens to display the four-color liner notes booklet. No need to fumble with removing the booklet from a traditional jewel case--a nice touch for those of us who enjoy reading the essays and production notes associated with a classical recording. The booklet is quite handsome, and includes two color plates, one probably attributable to Hieronymus Bosch, and one from the Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, 15th c. France. Also included are librettos in English, French and German.
The 12 tracks are as as follows:
1) Vespers hymn: O lux beata trinitas
2) Jube domine/Lection: In principio
3) TAVENER: Come and do Your will in me (voices & strings)
4) Compline hymn: Christe qui lux es
5) Lectio ysaye prophete/Lection: Surge illuminare
6) Tavener: As one who has slept (voices & strings)
7) Nocturn hymn: Medie noctis tempus est
8) Leccio libri apokalipsis/Lection: Vidi civitatem
9) TAVENER: The Lord's Prayer
10) Alleluia: Quinque prudentes virgines
11) TAVENER: The Bridegroom (voices & strings)
*world premiere recording
12) Hymn for the New Light: Inventor rutili
This album must be heard to be appreciated. Whether you are familiar with Tavener and the quality of Anonymous 4 & the Chilingirian Quartet's recordings, or are new to all this, do yourself a tremendous favor and get a copy now! The production quality is nothing less than superb, as you would expect from Harmonia Mundi and the ladies of Anonymous 4.
This is my personal selection for CLASSICAL MUSIC ALBUM OF THE YEAR.

Into the Light by Chris de Burgh.......2007-06-12
album so I decided to replace it with a CD.
Dare I say de Burgh's best?.......2006-01-28
I admit it, I was also a sap for the song and I still think it's a good love ballad, but Into the Light is a strong album because of a bunch of other songs. Other singles from this album were "Say Goodbye to it All," "The Spirit of Man" and "Fire on the Water." They are all well written pop songs. By this stage in his career, Chris was equally comfortable writing faster, rockier songs and slower romantic songs. "Say Goodbye" is an interesting sequel to the song "Borderline" from the Getaway album. Chris actually sampled the closing lines of "Borderline" before heading into the faster and rockier "Say Goodbye." "Spirit of Man" has one of the catchiest hooks and riffs on any pop song anywhere, and it's more upbeat after the solemn theme of the previous song. "Fire on the Water" is a mid-tempo ballad, one of several that celebrate romance and family on this album. I also like "For Rosanna," written for his daughter, and "Fatal Hesitation."
The closing trilogy of songs, "The Leader/The Vision/What About Me?" recalls the closing epic on Crusader. This album by Chris is really worth owning.
Great classic love songs.......2005-10-10
But this CD really has much more to offer than that one (admittedly quite wonderful) song! The other songs are equally engrossing in their own way. You've got a tender ode from a father to his daughter in "For Rosanna". You've got stories being told across multiple songs.
Some of the songs are a bit more poppy if you want to dance around a bit, but really for me the quality shines best in the romantic songs. He really gets to the heart of that emotion, and brings it out in the listener. Perfect for curling up with your loved one, and gazing into each others eyes.
Love it!.......2005-02-18
Into the.....U.S. market.......2001-02-11
Back to Into the Light. This was DeBurgh's big breakthrough into the American music scene. ... I believe that after the success of Don't Pay the Ferryman, DeBurgh and his record company believed that high energy songs were where Chris would make his bread and butter, at least here in the U.S.
As a result, the first single that was released was the energetic The Spirit of Man, which sounded influenced by St. Elmo's Fire theme, Man in Motion. If memory serves correctly -- and this is 14 years ago, so forgive me if I don't get it exactly -- The Spirit of Man was in its infancy in terms of release when The Lady in Red was released in England to stunning success. I doubt anyone thought it would do as well as it did, moving from 40 - 10 - 2 - 1, knocking off Madonna's Papa Don't Preach (that is correct, by the way). Given this remarkable success, The Lady in Red was released here, but did not enjoy the same success it did across the ocean. I believe it was around one year later that some adult contemporary stations began playing the song again, and it was then re-released in the U.S., where it peaked on Billboard's Hot 100 chart at #3. I was, by this time, a rabid fan of DeBurgh's music, and was sad that it didn't reach #1. Regardless, it was DeBurgh's biggest hit here and a classic that still gets airplay.
There is another one of DeBurgh's "stories" on the album (The Leader, The Vision, What About Me), which attempts to be reminiscent of Crusader, but falls far short. One Word (Straight to the Heart) is one of my least favorite DeBurgh songs ever (as the lyrics contain "straight to the heart -- like a cannonball..." eck).
And then there is "For Rosanna", the song DeBurgh wrote his daughter. I've mentioned before that DeBurgh is strong when he writes of love, and this song is evidence that it's not only romantic love he is in touch with, for even though I wasn't a father then, and am not now, when I listen to that song I *feel* like a father. I see what he sees when he looks into her eyes, I feel everything he writes about. It's DeBurgh's strength as an artist that he can do this so effectively.

Album Description
Dakini Lounge marks Indo-Jazz innovator Prem Joshua's first encounter with DJ science. Here, an eclectic collection of cutting edge mixologists including Karsh Kale, Sean Dinsmore (The Dum Dum Project), Joi and Dharma Dogz (of Waterbone) shed new light on Joshua's signature sound, translating his East-West alchemies into stunning dub, chill and dance floor masterworks.Prem Joshua has come a long way from the 18-year-old German rocker, mind blown by a Ravi Shankar performance, answering a mysterious call from a faraway place. While spending the better part of 20 years in India (where he has sold well over 50,000 records), Joshua has developed a unique musical style employing sitar, Indian flutes, saxophone, electronica and tarana-style singing that artfullyand skillfullybridges the gap between traditional Eastern sounds and Western jazz forms, prompting the Times of India to dub him "the new guru of East-West fusion music."
Dakini Lounge marks the next logical progression in Prem Joshua's storied career. Placing the master musician's songs in the able hands of these modern day studio mavens presents new interpretations and directions for the many listeners already in love with Prem Joshua's music while introducing him to an ever wider audience.

A brief glance at the packaging for this recording might make you think New Age, and indeed this label normally offers recordings in that vein. The disc's cover tells nothing about the music inside--all we see are the ruins of an ancient abbey, the moon in the sky on the front, the sun on the back. But wait. If you get far enough to listen to the recording, you'll find one of the most beautiful and beautifully programmed choral recordings in the catalog. The compositions, organized into the categories "Music of the Morning Rite" and "Music of the Evening Rite," are mostly from 16th- century composers--Byrd, Taverner, Sheppard, White--with a few Gregorian chants and a gorgeous rendition of the 20th-century motet by Duruflé, "Ubi caritas." Conductor/choral music legend John Rutter has assembled a program that's both uplifting and restful; the performance is faultless. One could only complain about the short (39 and a half minutes) playing time. --David VernierCustomer Reviews:

--Brother Sun--
The first half of the disc is largely composed of pieces from the liturgical Morning Prayer cycle, concentrating on texts from Easter, the most important of Christian days. From the Alleluia to the Acclamations and Surrexit Christus Hodie (Christ is risen today), the flow from Gregorian Chant to compositions by Byrd, Taverner and Palestrina (giants of this type of music) in increasing energy and glory, as befits both a Morning service (time to wake up!) as well as a celebration of the resurrection of Christ. Perhaps of particular note here is the cantoring of bass Gerald Finley in the Easter Acclamations.
--Sister Moon--
The second half of the disc concentrates on music of the evening; in particular, the Compline service, a service of unwinding and sombre meditation with which monastic communities conclude their days of work and worship. Many churches have reincorporated Compline into a regular cycle of services; some have even done so as a result of exposure to this recording. The music here is softer and less energetic than that of Morning prayer. This includes music from Whyte and Sheppard (also masters of the Medieval-to-Renaissance liturgical polyphony) as well as a brilliant motet by twentieth century composer Duruflé for the Ubi Caritas.
--Liner Notes--
The notes for this recording include the titles and words, in both Latin and English, for each of the pieces recorded here. It has an excerpt from a prayer by St. Francis, and a basic introduction to the music relating it historically and liturgically. One thing conspicuously missing is any biographical information about John Rutter, or any descriptive information about the Cambridge Singers apart from the basic listing of singers.
--John Rutter--
Rutter was born in London and educated at Clare College, Cambridge. This was where his career as a composer, arranger and conductor began. His early work was with groups at King's College Chapel at Cambridge as well as the Bath Choir and Philharmonic Orchestra. He has worked for the BBC providing music for educational series such as 'The Archaeology of the Bible Lands', until in 1979 he began forming the Cambridge Singers, and has continued a remarkable career of performance and recording as their director ever since.
--The Cambridge Singers--
The Cambridge Singers are a mixed choir of voices, many of whom were members of choir of Rutter's college, Clare College, Cambridge. While they specialise in English and Latin liturgical pieces, they have a wide range of recordings that span from modern compositions (including a remarkable requiem by Rutter) to English folk songs of the Middle Ages. For this particular recording, the choir consisted of eleven sopranos, six altos, six tenors, and six basses.
Cambridge Singers = Quality.......2002-05-23
American Gramaphone, please reissue this title........2000-03-30
John Rutter trains his singers to sing without vibrato, and blends their voices with such balance that they come together as a single instrument. The selection on this CD is perfect to demonstrate the clarity and richness of this ensemble. If American Gramaphone does reissue this title, I will be first in line to purchase it.
