Spirit Flies, the first Contemporary Album of Turtle Island, is a knockout. Adam and his band, Midnight Sun, have been compared to Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, and although Midnight Sun's country rock approach bears some similarity to The Heartbreakers, their powwow backbeat and Adam's powerful vocals, mostly in Dene, mark the band as an original talent

especially if you wnat to expand your spiritual awareness
of beautiful songs of the spirit
Quite the misleading title as this is disco-drone. If it is true that all things must pass it would be better to pass this one by.
It's an interesting mixture of modern English-language pop music and Tibetan chants.
As a Buddhist, I find the mixture to be inoffensive on a religious level.
I was won over by the execution. It is an exceptionally well-crafted effort. I was particularly struck by track Four, "River of light," which features the Seven Line Prayer to Guru Rinpoche. It is clear and really quite 'catchy.' The same can be said for many of the songs on this CD. "I Wanna Fly" features the Mantra from the Heart Sutra, (AKA the Wisdom Mantra or the Emptiness Mantra). Many tracks feature well-known mantras or prayers, including the 100 Syllable Mantra of Vajrasattva, Mahakala Mantra, and The Short Refuge Prayer, among others.
I believe that the Mantras and prayers here are treated with respect and affection. At the same time, it is something that I hope could get some 'air time' on some radio stations.
I like it.

Ten years ago, Lama Jamyang Tashi Dorje founded a Buddhist Monastery in Catalonia, where many spiritually inclined individuals have since repaired to de-stress and seek healing of various sorts. It is safe to assume that they did not accomplish such while listening this bizarre opus, which can best be described as mantras meet Eurovision. Canned-sounding synths, charley-horsed programmed percussion and perkily mundane pop vocals are piled on top of choirs of chanting monks, but the modern and traditional elements not only have nothing in common but actually seem mutually antagonistic. For what it's worth, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has apparently "acknowledged the success" of the album and even congratulated the protagonists. Of course, Spain was also where Chant by the Benedictine Monks Of Santo Domingo de Silos, perhaps the most unlikely European-based international craze this side of the Macarena, originated. But the present release has more to do with Chantmania, a parody of the latter, in which the California-based Benzedrine Monks Of Santo Domonica, who are rumored to seek the divine through sleep deprivation, essayed selections like "Losing My Religion" and "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" --Christina RodenCustomer Reviews:
