While vocalist/soap-opera star Tammy Lang's affiliation with producer-musician Kramer on Glen or Glenda demands direct comparison to Bongwater's old chanteuse-in-residence Ann Magnuson, Reasons in the Sun is an ambitious project in its own right. As always, Kramer's fondness for classic pop reveals itself in the most twisted manifestations. Here, Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne" shares equal time with Sonny Bono's "Needles and Pins" and Tommy Roe's bubblegum masterpiece "Dizzy." Lang's voice is slightly thin, but Kramer's immaculate production and superb arrangement skills foster her vocal performances quite nicely. Using cello, guitars, and occasional drum programming, the two exude a lush, strange, and even elegant sound. Kramer has one of the most inventive studio minds you'll ever encounter and this record contains prime examples of his work. Check him out. --Mitch Myers
