Product Description
The first CRISES self-titled album gave a first hint on the potential of this band, and the new killer album "Broken Glass" is with no doubt a milestone on their way to the Olympus of Progressive heavy-metal. Hearing the bombastic power of CRISES songs, superbly crafted with warm melodies which go direct to the message of the text, any listener will be moved by this emotional music. Although being very heavy and bombastic, the melodies remain extremely catchy, thereby fascinating people from all genres of music styles. The group is made up of five guys from the countries of America, Germany and the Czech Republic, coming together to bring you the music which has messages for the world.

5 out of 5 stars Fans of the Lawrence Arms' Brendan Kelly are virtually gauranteed to enjoy this.......2006-01-10

If you are a fan of the Lawrence Arms, in specific, the raspy Brendan Kelly (formerly of Slapstick, Broadways), then you are going to enjoy this very short, but addictive set of five songs. They are catchy, raspy, pop-punk songs, and practically indistinguishable from any previous Brendan Kelly Lawrence Arms tracks.
And therein lies my one complaint- there is no experimentation going on here- it is the same formula as the Lawrence Arms, albeit with different bandmates. I love the Lawrence Arms, and love this short ep, but honestly, creating a "side project" that is virtually identical to your regular band makes little to no sense.
(Basically, Brendan seems to have just wanted to make his own cd, separate from Chris, where he sings everything).

5 out of 5 stars Excellent punk in the vien of Lawrence Arms/Alkaline Trio.......2005-12-28

Here's a fun side band from the singer/bassist and the drummer from The Lawrence Arms, the
singer/bassist from Alkaline Trio and a dude from Rise Against. It's an extremely short EP,
clocking in with just five short songs but what great songs they are. For a starting point, they
sound similar to the punkier, harder edged songs The Lawrence Arms writes half the time (not
the Jawbreaker type emo ones) but with a bit more experimentation and some small elements
of Alkaline Trio. To give you an idea, on a couple of these cuts you can hear liberal use of
Spanish themed acoustic guitar mixed in with the trademark galloping distorted guitars and
drums used by Alkaline Trio. This sounds like mixing oil and water but it's really catchy.

The vocals are all handled by the guy from The Lawrence Arms which really suits the music more
than the more emo singer from Alkaline Trio. In terms of delivery, he has really perfected the
high-register, slightly screamo, almost unintelligible, double layered sound he has been
dabbling with on the last The Lawrence Arms record (listen to the song "On With The Show" if you
want to know what I'm talking about). I can see not everyone appreciating this but over the last
several years I think he's gone from a cheap wannabe cockney accent to a very distinctive sound
that's totally unique.

Seeing that this sucker only has five songs I'll wrap this review up but it's safe to say that if you've
liked the direction The Lawrence Arms have been going in and appreciate the punkier songs
sung by the scratchy throated guy then you will really dig this short but sweet record.

3 out of 5 stars I like River Deep, Mountain High!.......2002-11-04

Never heard Annie Sing "River Deep, Mountain High" before.

As a matter of fact, I've never seen or heard Annie do her LIVE MTV UNPLUGGED special.

I think that "RDMH" sung live by Annie is amusing! She's got the voice to do it, but at the time she did that show, and when the single was made, she was pregnant. It took a toll on her voice. She still was able to belt it out though.
It's always nice to hear an artist do an MTV Live Unplugged show. It shows how much versatile an artist and their band is.

I'm not too crazy about hearing Annie singing "Here comes the rain again" and "It's alright, baby's coming back" live, because I already have the Eurythmics live double concert cd.

Anyhow, owning this single is fine. It adds to my Annie Lennox collection. I do like the studio, single version of "Walking on broken glass". Most of the time, single versions of songs are slightly different than the album version. I will have to listen to both versions of WOBG to see if there is much of a difference there.

The biggest complaint I have, is that this cd came out way too late. Would have been nice to get it at the time it was released!

Hope this review helped you.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic Pop Single.......2001-11-05

Classy and soulful. Two adjectives that describe this single re-release of Annie Lennox's 1992 hit "Walking On Broken Glass". One of the hits from her solo debut "Diva", the song is contained here in 2 versions - a single version, and a live version recorded for MTV Unplugged during the summer of '92. Three other live cuts from that show are present here, all three with Annie's rich and alluring white soul voice. Two being choice Eurythmics tunes - "It's Alright (Baby's Comin' Back)" and "Here Comes The Rain Again". The high point for me though, is the cover of the classic "River Deep, Mountain High" - a tune she sounds great on. If you missed this single the first time, follow my advice and pick it up on it's second go round like I did.

4 out of 5 stars Brutal Metal from an underrated band.......2004-12-18

Crowbar are a very underrated band. Anyone who likes Eyehategod, Entombed, Pantera, Pro-Pain, or Type O Negative and doesn't know Crowbar is missing out. I think this is there best album and should be in every metalhead's collection.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful Sludge Metal at its Finest.......2004-03-10

I can't remember where I first heard Crowbar, but I can tell you that they are certainly one of the heavyweights of metal. They have an intensity which is truly crushing in its delivery, from Kirk Windstein's screaming vocals to the grinding doom of the guitars. Two of the more memorable songs on this CD are "Wrath of Time Be Judgment" and "I Am Forever", both just jump on you and stick in your head for days. If you like your metal heavy and hard, this is a MUST HAVE!

    5 out of 5 stars Crushing Metal.......2002-03-27

This CD is awesome. Slow to medium speed pulverizing rhythms, this is not speed metal. Vocals are rough and powerful, but not death metal gnarly. Above average lyrics for metal, usually tortured; lots of failed relationships and disappointment. You can just feel the pounding drumming. It's like Black Sabbath on a massive dose of steriods. And plenty of change ups to keep things interesting, Crowbar does not just pick one rhythm and ride it the whole song - they shift gears like a well oiled machine. This is absolutely one of the ten best metal cds I have ever heard, and I have heard a bunch. If you love pounding, crunching metal you must buy this. Totally powerful - I hear metal band after metal band and they simply do not measure up to this cd. It is outstanding metal. And if you like this (you will)
, ALSO buy "Time Heals Nothing," it is outstanding - I believe every bit as good as Broken Glass.

    5 out of 5 stars Battleship Heavy.......2001-10-14

I'm hooked. I first heard "Lasting Dose" on my digital cable channel. Crowbar weighs 10,000 pounds. Kirk's vocals are amazing and the band's overall sound is so overdriven and MASSIVE with a capitol "M". The disc is heavy from the onset with "Broken Glass" being a true standout; but from tracks 6 on, I can't even describe how hard this record hits. Particularly crushing are are "I Am Forever" and "Above, Below..." and
"I'll Live Again". You will find your own. BOOM BOOM THWAP!!

Crowbar surprises you with dead-stop breaks overwhelming crunchy riffs that redefine intensity. Make your headphones happy.

5 out of 5 stars Broken glass and shattered eardrums!.......2000-10-07

This is the second of the Crowbar discs that you actually have a chance of getting (the first you can't even get from most places; pick it up if you can; it's awesome) and is the last executive produced by Phil Anselmo. It rocks from start to finish, and Kirk Windstein has never been more convincing than on Broken Glass. These two "heavy" (Strange and Windstein)metal heroes are heavy weight songwriters as well. The only complaint about this CD is that it doesn't have a cover on it. Their covers of Zeppelin, Iron Maiden and Gary Wright are all superb, but from opening bell to close, this CD will take you by storm.

              Album Description

Rock singer/songwriter/guitarist Todd Shea takes the listener on an often dark, at times hopeful, and always thoughtful journey masterfully navigating his way through the twelve "pieces" of "Broken Glass." Todd convincingly pulls off the difficult feat of remaining true to his progressive, alternative, and southern rock influences while at the same time sounding amazingly fresh and unique. Precious few individuals have the ability to sing, write and play at the level of this true artist.
