The Spectres: Jesse James - guitar, vocals
Austin Frankenquist - double bass
J.R. Vermin - drums
Don't be fooled. You may see the greasy hair, the double bass, and the leather jackets and think you're in for some kind of Sha-Na-Na nostalgia kick, but you ain't. Believe me. The Spectres take rock & roll and strip away all the extraneous junk: no choirs, no orchestras, no extended dance remixes. They boil down raw rockabilly, fuzz-bomb garage punk, and speed-addled surf n' drag into a butt-kickin' elixir of prime-evil, gutbucket rock & roll.
The Spectres started annoying neighbors with their unholy racket in early '97, and shortly after started making a name for themselves in any old dive that would have them. They've since managed to play in most of the local clubs, as well as a few up North, and in March '98 they decided to spread their rock & roll infection down the Western seaboard. The tour was a smash, with a trail of destruction from San Francisco to San Diego and all points in between, not to mention Sin City itself, Las Vegas ("Our second home" sez the band) and a brief stop in Utah to frighten the locals. The whole shebang ended up in Denver for Mile High Mayhem, the US's first ever psycho-billy festival! Two nights of nitrous-fueled rock & roll with such like-minded bands as Deadbolt, the Hellbillies, and Hayride to Hell, plus bands from as far away as the UK and Sweden. The boys then returned to Seattle older but not wiser, to resume where they'd left off.
Back home, the Spectres resumed lurking in the dark basement that spawned them, venturing out only to play gigs around the Northwest. In August they started work on their first full-length disc, 'Rubber Room Rock', unleashed Halloween Night, 1998. They also managed to fit in a few more shows including trips to Canada and a riotous appearance at NXNW in Portland . . . for booking and other info call:
