From the Artist
"'Maybaby' was my first attempt at being a solo artist. After being in several bands and surviving a miserable break-up of my previous band I decided since I played drums, bass, guitar and keyboards that I would just do my own album. I had recorded many times before just by myself but had never released a full disc. While recording 'Maybaby' was difficult and time-consuming, I learned a tremendous amount about recording and arranging during the sessions. It was at that time also that I met my dear friend Gary Wehrkamp. Gary's one of those musical guru types who probably has more intelligence in his pinky nail than most people have in their extended families. He would help me arrange the parts as well as co-produce and eventually co-mix. He also played one of the acoustic guitar tracks on 'Creecher in room 874'. Now Gary plays in my band and will be playing guitar and keyboards on my third studio release, due out in the spring/summer of 2001.

Anyway, high points for me on 'Maybaby' are 'Sister's Lament' which I wrote for my sister. It is my hope that someday somebody will latch onto that song and make it known internationally, not only for my own gain but so people can hear it and get the message. I wrote it in about five minutes while vacationing at the Grand Canyon and luckily I somehow captured the mood I was trying to portray at the time. I also like Bleu Kordaroi which is really wierdorama for me, but that's probably why I like it. 'Child Waiting' is my song about a child in his young mother's belly trying to talk her into not aborting him.

So if you've heard my second disc, 'blend' you might want to check 'Maybaby' out too. Many people say that 'Sister's Lament' is my best song." J.R. 2/10/01

About the Artist
Jim Roberti started his musical career as a drummer/singer at age ten, teaching himself piano, bass and guitar through his school years. Roberti has played in duos, frat bands, resort trios and alternative bands. He currently plays the role of singer/guitarist with a solo act that has averaged 280 bookings per year since 1992. Roberti’s career as an artist and songwriter started with a four-piece band called Ark of Puppets, which was based in Northeastern PA in the early 90’s.

With the release of a 5 song EP called "Feel Say Be Live" (1993) people took notice of Roberti’s voice and songwriting talent. With the breakup of the band, Roberti started writing songs for a homespun album that would soon be known as "yellow" (1995). Although "yellow" was recorded only on a four-track machine, and only released on cassette, it has a unique creative quality and some truly inspired songs. Roberti then began work on a self-produced and financed album called "maybaby" (1997). A virtual musical resume, Roberti plays all instruments (with few exceptions) and co-produced, co-mixed. "maybaby" contains the hit song Sister’s Lament, an instant crowd favorite everywhere Roberti performs. Roberti writes a column called "Survival Tips for Musicians" for Northeast PA based music rag Music Head Magazine. Excerpts of the "Survival Tips" series have been reprinted in "What! A Magazine", a Canadian teen publication that is distributed to over 1,000 high schools throughout Canada. In 1998 Roberti made his first TV appearance on BRCTV channel 13’s Coffee Break with Kim Bell. He also joined NACA (National Association of Campus Activities) and was one of 47 acts picked out of 500 applicants to showcase at the NACA East Coast Conference in October of ’98.

June 1st, 1999 saw the release of "blend", the much-anticipated follow-up to "maybaby". Produced, written and arranged by Roberti, it has been described by one bar owner/music aficionado as the "best independent album I have ever heard" Check out Amazon.com and search Jim Roberti to see what music lovers all over the country have been saying about "blend". "Aberration" (track #8) was recently chosen to be on the "Oasis CD Sampler" a collection of talented, up and coming bands, and in February of 2000 it was to be shipped to hundreds of indie and college radio stations all over the country. The Jim Roberti band is a group of talented musicians whose experience and broad musical tastes provide them with the artillery to entertain any music lover.

3 out of 5 stars Just be a poet about it.......2007-02-05

I got to see Edie Carey at a "house concert," where fans of music provide their living room, kitchen, patio etc as a place for a traveling musician to play. The hosts provide snacks and a place to play, the guests pay a small fee to cover costs and the artist provides music. In Edie Carey's case, really good music.

This was the CD I purchased after the show, primarily for what I thought was the best song of the evening, "Compromise (Be A Poet About It)." It is a sad song with a sweetly hushed vocal, and I found it to be somewhat like Joni Mitchell or Shawn Colvin. I asked Edie to point me to the right CD, and this is what I brought home. "When I Was Made" walks between bluegrass/country and confessional folk. The first song, "With Our Hands," is a plucky country number enlivened by Jonathan Kingham's banjo. But she glides just as easily to Sheryl Crow pop like "All The Way Down" and the aforementioned "Compromise."

If you don't mind some genre-hopping, or any of the artists mentioned prior, you'll probably enjoy "When I Was Made." I will also cheerfully recommend Edie Carey's performance should she visit your town. You can find a schedule at the website that bears her name.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointment.......2006-07-19

I bought the When I Was Made cd based on other Amazon purchases I had made. Well, I found Edie Carie's lyrics and delivery to be a sad disappointment.

5 out of 5 stars Intimate, Delicate, And Yet Powerful.......2004-03-18

I stumbled across Edie Carey nearly two years ago and, in short order, owned all of her CD's to that point with CALL ME HOME topping the short list. As much as I appreciated Edie's offerings to date, somehow everything changed with WHEN I WAS MADE...somehow very much for the better. My favorites When I Start To Cry and Compromise seem to be intensely personal and I feel honored to be allowed to listen in. By themselves they would make this CD a keeper, but there is so much more. With Our Hands is a great song but then add Jonathan Kingham's dobro and banjo pickin' and what a treat this one becomes. Go ahead...try not to move or sing along with it. Additionally, Under A Sky, All The Way Down, and Chemistry (JK/banjo again) are just three more chapters in this amazing musical gift. And if this wasn't enough for you to purchase WHEN I WAS MADE, know this: After seeing Edie in concert this past Saturday, what resonates with her audience in addition to her awe-inspiring voice and songwriting is the fact that she intensely loves sharing her craft with us and is so very grateful that we stopped by to listen. No, maam...the gratitude is ours, Edie C.

5 out of 5 stars What can I say except..........2004-01-31

...any Edie is great Edie! One cannot go wrong with this woman. This album is a twist on her usual sound but it is a natural progression and sounds awesome! I love to hear people grow and expand. The lyrics are fabulous. The title track "With Our Hands" is heart wrenching and uplifting at the same time. I don't know many artists who can create that combo. Keep up the good work Edie!

5 out of 5 stars Stunningly Beautiful.......2003-12-27

This is Edie's most poignant and beautiful work to date. Evan Brubaker's production gives her a fresh, new sound. It's intimate, organic and simply beautiful. The banjos and dobros on some songs will make everyone think it's country, but it's better described as rootsy pop.

Edie writes hooky songs with some of the most amazing lyrics I've ever heard. There are the upbeat songs "With Our Hands" and "Under A Sky"; the haunting "Open Wide" and "Chemistry"; the heartbreaking "If I Start To Cry" and "Already Gone", and she's recorded a studio version of her signature song "Compromise (Be A Poet About It)". Every song on this CD is a winner and a must-have for fans of the singer/songwriter genre.

4 out of 5 stars Ruthie & the Wranglers Go Back to Country Music's Future.......1999-02-24

It's not an easy trick to tweak country music without stooping to parody, but Washington, DC's Ruthie and the Wranglers walk that fine line--with sass and style to burn--on their second full album, "Life's Savings." This follow-up to the band's debut, "Wrangler City," is a lively melding of honky-tonk and rockabilly that showcases lead singer Ruthie Logsdon's brassy vocals and fresh-as-mountain-dew songs. Add in the top-notch muscianship of Phil Mathieu (lead guitar), Mark Noone (bass), and Joel App (percussion), coupled with Noone's studio wizardry, and you've got one of the tightest, liveliest, and catchiest "alt.country" offerings of 1998. The band members' punk roots are most evident on revved-uptempo numbers such as "A Dime at a Time," Logsdon's "If It's the Last Thing I Do," and, especially, a blistering version of Loretta Lynn's hands-off-my-man anthem, "Fist City." Moreover, "He's a Honky Tonk Man," which celebrates a transgender urban cowboy, is tongue in cheek, to say the least. But other, more traditional honky-tonkers, such as "What Mama Don't Know" and "One More Lie," wouldn't sound out of place on the latest Pam Tillis release. Logsdon's songwriting and vocal talents would be enough by themselves to recommend the Wranglers' sophomore effort, but they're not all the album has to offer. Mathieu's effervescent work on electric guitar, which brings to mind the Buckaroos' Don Rich, and Noone's efforts in the producer's chair have yielded a sparkling clean sound that rivals any Nashville chart-topper. Ultimately, arguments over how to pigeonhole Ruthie and the Wranglers are beside the point. What "Life's Savings" is about is fun. Next time the party starts to flag, slap it on--and stand back.
