Product Description
Brant Bjork has been an influential songwriting member of the legendary Kyuss and Fu Manchu. He is now a full time member of Queens Of The Stone Age. This 2002 release has retained that feel of the desert, but rarely hides the fact that he's given to leisure travel as the mood suits him.

5 out of 5 stars Brant Bjorks Best Yet- Bring On the Rock & Role'!!.......2007-06-01

I've been a fan of this dudes solo stuff since Jalamanta and I gotta say this tops'em all. The tunes are better, the vox and lyrics are better- everything just comes together with pure energy and flows nicely. The weather has been beautiful here in So Cal. and this album has been the perfect soundtrack. Right on to you Brant!! You and the Bro's have given up some killer tunes- keep'em comin'!

PS- I'm listening to Big Youth's- "Screaming Target" right now (sweetness!!). For some killer reggae check it out!!

5 out of 5 stars BRANT BJORK: ROCK GOD!.......2007-07-18

This is such a kick-A CD. Who says one needs to be "plugged in" (ie: electric) to deliver a sonic explosion of the most rock-ingest kind? BB acoustic or electric delivers the same result: PASSION UNBRIDLED! He has never released a bad song or half-hearted release, in my humble opinion. He is the perfect definition of a modern day Rock God!
Just the song "Love Is Revolution" alone is reason enough to lay your money down for this release. Trust me! You will not be sorry. Definitely SONG OF THE YEAR. And, as long as you're taking notes in this here Rock n Roll High School, make sure to grab a copy of Brant's "Somero Sol" as well so as to check out how he cuts many of these songs electrically. I'm in Bjork heaven this year. "Tres Dias" , "Somero Sol" and "Volta" (from that other exquisite Bjork, of course!). So juch cool, cool music, my ears are certainly happy!

5 out of 5 stars Clean and Smooth.......2007-05-29

If you're true fan of Brant and his style than you will enjoy this acoustic offering. Both personal and political, the lyrics come out intense and is wrapped around his familiar guitars.

5 out of 5 stars Exactly What I Wanted.......2007-03-28

Being the BB fan I am I was super excited to see this album available on Amazon. I check the DUNA site quite a bit and always look for new albums...needless to say Amazon had it a few weeks prior to the Duna site offering it.

This album is all acoustic. It brings Brants lyrics and unique voice/delivery up front. If you're looking for his usual sound then you may be dissapointed but if you are a true fan I say BUY IT.

This guy needs to stop touring overseas and come back to Boston soon....

His underground musical pedigree is stellar: Brant Bjork played drums and wrote songs as a member of the stoner-rock band Kyuss and also produced and drummed for Fu Manchu. His own work retains some of his previous bands' post-grunge flavor--but just a bit. There's no ponderous, down-tuned Sabbath-influenced jamming, and in fact, some songs, like "Cheap Wine," are wonderfully bouncy and cheerfully cheesy. Bjork opens and closes the disc with a kicked-back jazzy exploration called "Hinda65," while winningly infectious songs like "Smarty Pants" and "My Ghettoblaster" are funky, trippy, hippie pop. Lounge-influenced keyboard lines intermix wonderfully and whimsically with riffing guitars on the instrumental "Cocoa Butter." --Katherine Turman

I have been hooked on this album for months now. The man is such a great drummer.....he is a MACHINE I tell you.

Didn't care much for Kyuss, the guitars and singing were marginal in my opinion.

But this album is the way it was meant to be done....nonstop groove and pure talent.

Only ones I can compare them to are the Meat Puppets, with Bostrom's incredible drumming and 3-man tightness.

Get it now, it is the antidote to today's talent vacuum.

5 out of 5 stars It gets no cooler....straight up........2004-04-20

THIS RECORD IS PERFECT. I have been a Fu Manchu fan for a long time, but over the last year or so I just started discovering the talents of their former drummer Brant Bjork. It's hard to describe how incredibly cool this album is. This and CHE' are in my opinion his best efforts.

This album starts off groovin' and DOES NOT STOP. It hits many different genres and does it effortlessly and more importantly, seamlessly. What I mean is, the flow of this record is EXACT. This is exactly how the songs should be positioned on the record for fluid chillin'. This is one of those rare records that if you are smart enough to buy it, you can put it in your system and then forget about things for 45 minutes. No skipping through songs, that will be completely unnecessary with this album.

The songs range from rockin' to groovy, to funky, to jazzy, almost soulful at times. "Smarty Pants" sounds like it could be a Joe Walsh song. "Cheap Wine" is absolutely beautiful. It sounds like you've just turned your radio on and it's the mid to late 70's, which depending on who you were listening to in that era could be pure greatness or pure crap. In this case of course, it rules. Cheap Wine sounds like what a Steely Dan song would sound like if they sacked up just a little bit more. And Steely Dan rule by the way. "Cocoa Butter" Is perfect for entertaining the ladies, or eating dinner...seriously. This album is all over the place with styles, but it WORKS!! I have never heard of The Operators before, but I can only pray that they hook up with Brant Bjork again sometime in the future, because these guys add some serious flavor to the stew.

I must warn the hardcore Fu fans, If you are expecting anything like a typical Fu Manchu record, this is not it. But if you have a wide musical taste and can appreciate pure musical talent, BUY THIS! The samples on amazon are great, but they don't even do it justice, you've got to hear the whole thing. If I sound excessive in my praise for this album, it's because any music lover who appreciates pure talent and quality in their music knows how great the feeling is when you buy a record that is...GOOD. You also know the feeling of dissapointment and anger when it sucks. Well this one is FANTASTIC.

This is by no means groundbreaking, but what it is is good chillin', drivin', blazin' cookin' out, beachin' it kind of tunes that will keep the party going for a solid 45 minutes. Thank you Brant Bjork for keeping cool music in circulation, please don't ever stop.

4 out of 5 stars For a cool & mellow head in todays world.....YOU NEED THIS!.......2004-02-14

If there ever was an album that says "Roll Another Number" it's this mellow, funky little gem. Whenever I listen to this I want to call up the bro's for a BBQ, chill out with some 40's rollin' fatties and talkin' about the ladies. OH YEAH!! If you like this music check out "Jalamanta" and Che- "Sounds of Liberation" if you can find'em. This is music for the people..Get it on!!

5 out of 5 stars Hight fidelity? Don't make me laugh!.......2002-12-12

I am a fan of Kyuss. And Queens of the Stone Age. And Unida, and the Jesus Lizard all the other bands going their different directions with this flexible genre.

This CD rocked me without me being aware of it! It creeps slinky-slinky on to the speakers and from that opening thirty seconds of the first track you can FEEL how the album will progress. Not a moment in this album disappoints me, so give it a try.

And I challenge anyone not to hum the melody to "Cheap Wine" after a couple of listens!

5 out of 5 stars FULL VOLUME, FULL POWER TRIP!.......2002-08-16

brant bjork's music is complete. This is dense, juicy rock. the type of stuff that you'll crank in the car driving 100 miles an hour in the middle of the night.

the small minds of rock critics would lean on the old "stoner rock" cliches, but Bjork's stuff is beyond that. these are good sounds...true,thick, spacey, simple. the grooves nail you in the gut and keep you awake through the dark of night. LOUD is the word!

5 out of 5 stars Should come packaged with a cold six-pack.......2007-03-22

For an effort that more or less copmrises Brant Bjork's reminiscences of his life, two discs is actually pretty short. I haven't heard his other solo work, but I am a fan from his Kyuss and Fu Manchu days. This collection of songs really took me over like a slow burn, though. Nineteen cuts of smoothly laid-back guitar rock about growing up in LA, playing arcade games (that one's for the "older kids"), first loves, gettin' stoned, and chilling out with buddies. You can't beat this...I just can't wait until summer when I can kick back on my porch with some cold cervezas and this record. (Oh, the cover tunes rock - anyone that can pull off an original yet faithful version of my favorite Stones tune gets an automatic five stars from me).

    5 out of 5 stars These cd's rock!!!.......2006-05-13

I really like both of these cd's. Honestly, it sounds like a modern day Jimi Hendrix Experience minus the long guitar solos. If you didn't know it was Brant Bjork when hes not singing it sounds like Jimi's band. Bad Ass!!!
Some of the best music I've bought in a long time. Keep rocking out Brant!!!

    3 out of 5 stars Didn't thrill me........2005-12-30

I'm a huge Brant Bjork fan, but this is his only album that did not grab me the first time I listened to it. It might be one of those albums that grows on you, but I actually found myself skipping tracks on the second listen.

5 out of 5 stars Brant Bjork - Saved By Magic.......2005-10-14

The first time I listened to this album I was slightly disappointed -it reminded of his other work, good but always making you wish that it could have been better.
Well after listening to it a couple of times I changed my tune. This is by far his best work to date. Other than Robert Plant's Mighty Rearranger, this is the best album I have heard thus far this year.
If this guy could ever buckle down or get hooked up with a star producer, he could create a hit record.
As is, he is still pretty good to listen to. It is just unfortunate that the public en masse has not caught on him to yet.
Buy the album -in this case it is well worth the dollars.

    5 out of 5 stars Funky Prophet.......2005-10-07

BB is a funky prophet who wants to show you the way with sticky sweet grooves. Highly recommended.

. . . also very hard to find with Mans Ruin having closed. It is a real shame this CD has not been re-released on some other label. There is a note at Duma Records (Brant Bjorks new label) that it will be released on vinyl this year.

This is seriously cool music. Forget Fu Manchu, QOTSA, Kyuss. Jalamanta stands on its own without the crutches that could have been provided by Brant's previous lives. The guy is a genious and deserves some success.

Do yourself a favour and search this CD out - I got my copy from CDConnection.

      5 out of 5 stars Maximum Rock.......2003-03-04

Brant Bjork is a brillant man and his first solo offering Jalamanta rips. Start to finish is solid head nodding rock, kick back and put Jalamanta on, and feel what is, bud!

      5 out of 5 stars A super mellow CD.......2001-07-22

I love Kyuss, Queens of the Stone and Fu Manchu. But, I have to say this is one of the coolest CDs around. Everyone needs to mellow out some time. This is the CD to do it to. Super Music.

4 out of 5 stars Not Fu Manchu, but Still Good.......2000-06-20

This is very good music, although this is not exactly Fu Manchu or Queens of the Stone Age or whatever, because this is a complete drumming record. It is a good thing Brant Bjork put this out, because otherwise, there would be no eclectic stoner rock and it would have all stayed the same. There are no wild guitar solos on this album, just quiet comceptual drumming from the Fu Manchu drummer. Very Dreamy. The best songs on here are Too Many Chiefs... Not Enough Indians, Sun Brother, and Defender of the Oleander. I really do not like this as much as Fu Manchu, but this is good for quiet nights in the desert. For fans of Unida and John Paul Jones' solo outing Zooma.

      5 out of 5 stars God Bless.......2000-06-08

This cd is absolutly wonderful. The slow dreamy songs are trance like. This is a definite purchase for all Queens of the Stone Age fans.

Saved by Magic is Brant Bjork's first released with his Brothers of Rock. All you need to know is that it's just a good album. It's not the revelation, but it's a totally adequate, super-sized slice of dirty vocals, moaning guitars and heated rhythm section. And, split over two discs and with 14 tracks, Saved by Magic is certainly value for money.
