Not the Best Compilation.......2004-03-21

Eyeless in Gaza now has 4 (yes, 4!) different singles/best-of collections (the best of which, "Kodak Ghosts Run Amok," is no longer made); this one, unfortunately, does little to contribute to the band's lengthy and diverse catalog. The singles have been organized to reflect their original release (b-sides following the respective a-sides); however, most of these have been released with the CD full-lengths and, as the last reviewer pointed out, suffer from poor, mono-channeled sound. To old fans who already have most of this material, "China Blue Vision" and "The Feelings Mutual" offer a glimpse of EIG's earliest material (and since the sound quality isn't too good on the original release, you're not missing much here), and "Far Lands Blue" and the instrumental version of "Catch Me" (while certainly not their best songs) show more of their pop tendencies. New fans may find it difficult to navigate the CD with ambient experiments like "Avenue With Trees" and "Inky Blue Sky" to confuse those trying to get a feel for the band: it's more of an epilogue for the avid collector. For the newbie, I recommmend the best of "Voice," tempered by a full length CD (Rust Red September being the best bet, followed by "Photographs as Memories" for the more punk-inclined).

Yep, MONO is making a comeback!!.......2002-07-06

If you miss the good old days here's one for you - the entire singles collection of Messrs Becker and Bates (brilliant band, by the way) mastered in glorious MONO! OK, except the very last track 'Catch Me'. But the remainder is enough nostalgia for anyone stuck in that memorable period. Well done, Cherry Red!!

However, if you are into good old boring stereo, most of these tracks can be found on the individual cd album releases - Photographs as Memories (Avenue With Trees), Pale Hands I Loved So Well, Kodak Ghosts Run Amok... For a "Best of", you might want to check out 'Voice'..
