4 out of 5 stars This needs to be on DVD.......2006-12-02

This NEEDS to be on DVD. Now that we all know who Savion Glover is (the HAPPY FEET Guy!!!!!!), we need to see more of the real thing. Penguins are great dancers, but Savion is carrying on the tradition of the great Gregory Hines and his family and even Fred Astaire. Tappers are just happy people!!!

5 out of 5 stars To "Musical Fanatics": Best musical ever SEEN OR HEARD!!. .......2004-12-07

May 27, 2003 I take it anyone who actually SAW the musical could surely not say It didn't have a plot or story line. Or maybe they weren't REALLY paying attension while listening to it. I saw the broadway cast in 92 with the Great Gregory Hines and Savion Glover @ the Bule Theatre in Denver Colorado. I was Absolutely Blown Away by the talent of the Dancers, singers, actors, and instrumentalists. I am a singer/dancer myself and have always been a critic of Broadway Musicals And I have NEVER seen anything quite able to reach the talent that I saw on that stage before or since in my life so far! I hope some day it will come back to the stage it is greatly missed. I need people to see it so they finally understand why I have been bragging about it for so many years. I am also VERY disappointed that not very many people saw it when it came out and can someone please explain to me why it hasn't come back to the stage since 1992 yet?! P.S. WHY CAN"T I BUY THE DVD OF THE ACTUAL MUSICAL!

3 out of 5 stars To See - 5 Stars; To Listen To..........2003-05-28

The music is really great - love it. However, just sitting there and listening to this musical is, well, boring. A musical to me needs to tell a story, and if the songs don't really have a meaning, it's pointless. I want to be captivated! I want to be taken away in my mind to somewhere else! This musical just didn't do it for me. I imagine that sitting there in an audience watching this show would be really neat. But just listening to the CD was not enough for me to recommend this recording.

5 out of 5 stars It's the best soundtrack I've ever owned........2000-03-18

Love him or hate him, Jelly Roll Morton's life and genius are unveiled in this recording. The writing is superb and the music is even better. Gregory Hines undoubtedly gives his best performance ever. I have actually reordered this cd twice because family members keep stealing it from me. It's just that good.

Album Description

The glory days of the great power trios are faithfully re-visited as Inside Out Music proudly submits the sophomore release by the mighty Jelly Jam. Jelly Jam features the almost other-worldly musical talents of Ty Tabor (King's X) on guitar and lead-vocals, John Myung (Dream Theater) on bass, and Rod Morgenstein (The Dixie Dregs) on Drums.

The (power) trio format gives these uniquely gifted musicians the freedom and space to stretch out and really show what they're capable of doing, but never at the expense of their listeners. Huge and catchy guitar riffs are driven by a thunderously, tight rhythm section within song structures that swing from surgical precision to free-form instrumental jams. Ty's vocal skills and knack for melody are also on display in abundance. The Jelly Jam will be playing showcase dates in support of the release (details TBD) This release will have direct appeal to the formidable fan bases of Dream Theater and King's X.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Much more intricate.......2007-03-20

Rod is the star on this one. It seems like Ty brought the drums up alot in the mix because Rod was out of his mind with his playing on this record. I feel that the songs have better hooks than the first Jelly Jam and the production is better as well. Great album. If you're a Dream Theater or King's X vertical collector, put this one in the pile. Solid.

5 out of 5 stars another example of TABORS genius.......2007-03-01

I am fairly new to KINGX'S X and most things TABOR, but have been buying everything I could get hold off featuring this brilliant player. This is just another superb musical vision from this incredibly versatile master. A bit heavier than some of his other stuff, but still featuring the same depth and class as his other vehicles. This is a magic 3 piece band that rocks. TABOR might be the standout, but he sure knows how to assemble a band of virtuosos that contribute. If you like other TABOR releases, than this is sure to please you.

5 out of 5 stars suberb.......2006-12-13

I like myself a good Coldplay or U2 anyday. But nothing beats the bluesybeetlesque feel of a good Ty Tabor project.

4 out of 5 stars Ty-reffic.......2005-12-11

Will the world ever wake up to this mans talent? Ty Tabor is the best singer/songwriter today.

4 out of 5 stars Better than the first..........2005-10-12

I've been a King's X fan for years, and I've listened to all of the guys' solo and side projects. I wasn't real impressed with the first Jelly Jam album, especially after hearing the "Ice Cycles" album from Platypus (in my opinion, Ty's best work outside of King's X). So I was reluctant to buy the Jelly Jam 2 album - until I heard the song "Allison" and was hooked.

I really like this cd. To my ears, the music and vocals flow much better than the first album. There are a few vocal weak spots, but overall Ty's voice sounds real good, and his guitar playing is awesome as usual. I have to agree with a previous review that some of the guitar riffs are repeated way too often during a song and it can be a little annoying. Rod and John sound great as well, though at times John's bass gets muddied up in the mix because Ty's guitar tone is so bass-heavy. Production-wise, Ty is a solid producer but I really wish he'd brighten things up. I think his goal is a darker, bass-heavy tone for most of the albums he produces, but in the end it suffers because in this case, Rod's drum and cymbal work sounds too subdued in the mix.

Overall '2' is a really good cd. Less prog and more rock. I think it is definitely more user-friendly for non-prog fans than the first JJ cd.

Album Description

Neo-prog/progressive metal featuring Rod Morgenstein, John Myung & Ty Tabor. 2002.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Masterful Mountain of Music!.......2005-10-20

The Jelly Jam features Ty Tabor on guitar (King's X), John Myung on bass (Dream Theater), & Rod Morgenstein on drums (Dixie Dregs). I would say Jelly Jam is more of a Ty Tabor side project than the others here, since he wrote all the lyrics & most of the music on this album. As you might very well imagine, there is a healthy dose of King's X sounding material on this disc. As a matter of fact "ST" could have been a King's X album (without Pennick's vocal), especially relative to King's X "Gretchen" era.

Jelly Jam "ST" is just a magnificent effort. It is by far the best thing I've ever heard as a King's X side project, & there are many. This album is filled with killer hooky riffs, rumbling & towering leads, & a killer right in the pocket rhythm section! But the most awe inspiring part of "ST" is the amazing song writing that is going on here, especially the musical end. Monster riffs go hand in hand with beautiful & intense melodies married to Ty's, Lennon like vocals, a lush tapestry of sonic delights fill ones ears. This album rivals "Gretchen" for me. There is no mistake that Ty must have been the central figure in conceiving King's X material in their early years. "ST" just rocks to no end, filled with songs that would have fit perfectly on "Gretchen!" As a matter of fact, "ST" on a whole rocks harder than "Gretchen," without losing it's exotic flavor of mixing Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Rush, & Pat Travers into a smoldering concoction of epic proportion that was so evident with "Gretchen!"

Jelly Jam "ST" is by far my favorite post 2000 album, & is essential to anyone interested in King's X or King's X influences. Your ears will be addicted! I know mine are!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best albums I've ever heard........2005-10-03

I don't understand how this great music remains a secret.

5 out of 5 stars The Jam Moulds Well.......2004-02-23

This is sheer musical gold. I loved it the first moment I played it, and I still love listening to it. I can pick it out and just bang it on and feel the ace vibes created by Ty Tabor and his cronies. (After all, it's more his album than John or Rod's.) If you're a fan of Ty Tabor/Dream Theater spin offs, or a rock enthusiast in general you'll just adore this. If you haven't got the Jughead CD then you should get that one next.
Definitely one of my top five albums of 2002 and one of my all-time classic albums.

1 out of 5 stars Totally forgettable, Unfortunately.......2003-09-18

I really liked Platypus' Ice Cycles (at least the first half). This one is, however, forgettable. It has a few good licks but nothing catchy tyhat I remember like "Better Left Unsaid" from Ice Cycles. I think I listened to this CD two times max.

5 out of 5 stars the real deal.......2003-01-10

sadly, what we have here is a great rock album that will slip into musical oblivion. The masses dont want anything genuine. If the music rocks, then its time to push it to the backburner because garbage like blink 182, nickleback and the wallflowers need the floor space. Shame cause this album is better than anything those cover boys ever put out. Ty tabor lets out some real growl on songs such as 'No remedy'. The band shows its tight with 'the jelly jam' and brings it all home with "under the tree".

"Javier's Jelly and Jam Session" features a refreshing mix of jazz, folk, island, classical, and blues styles. At once imaginative, hilarious, and educational, these songs touch on concepts as diverse as learning the basics of bebop scat-singing, how to say the alphabet backwards, and much more. This an album that will surely entertain the littlest, inspire the older kids, and even get the adults tapping their toes!

        Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars creative and wide ranging genius.......2004-03-14

I have the fortune to have much of Arau's music both on tape and on cd. This venture could be called a "departure" from his jazz style, but his work is so wide ranging that it could also be considered an intregal part of his larger work. He shows abilities to branch out with every release. There is such a wonderful spirit shining forth in this work, it always leaves a smile. At times I play it simply for the lift it gives and the groove it sets. All my children love this cd and sing selections a lot. "The Alphabet Song" is a never-ending hit. Kids love to be able to recite the alphabet with jazz syncopation and then backwards with a flourish. "Onomotopaea" sets them off on mimicries for days. Adults will enjoy this on more subtler levels and kids will be tickled for years. I cannot recommend this enough to anyone, especially families with children

        5 out of 5 stars Genius!.......2003-10-03

Javier is BRILLIANT!! Fun for all ages and levels of musical skill. Seems like a great teaching tool that teachers should bring into their classes-- should be required in all classrooms!

English is a much sought-after language here in Portugal and my grandchildrens' friends are always keen to listen fun music from America. Everyone is lucky in the case of this CD by Javier Arau, myself included. The songs are joyous and jumpy and his voice is friendly, warm, and silly, like that of a loving uncle.

5 out of 5 stars This is my favorite.......2003-05-31

I learn English. This is funny CD that it helps me learn and remember. I like very much the song of sounds and I like backwards alphabet.

        5 out of 5 stars What a début!.......2003-05-31

With an undeniable sense for just what kid's like, Javier's blend of original tunes and truly fun lyrics makes for irresistible listening and singing fun. Shel Silverstein and Woody Guthrie also come to mind for the adult listener of these intelligent and zany works of art. This is CD is THE pick for parents and friends who want to offer music that makes a difference.
