"Freeek!" gets under your skin BIG TIME.......2005-02-17
In a sense, George really went off the deep end with this 2002 song "Freeek!"--it's an absolutely intense, overwhelmingly ominous, thumping dance track that can barely be classified as mid-tempo, plus it's loaded with expletives--not exactly the most radio-friendly track you ever came across. It's true that sometimes less is more, but "Freeek!" shows that sometimes over-the-top is the way to go. This track is absolutely explosive and gets under your skin big time, stuffed with insanely catchy hooks, and unhinged sexual lyrics which make "I Want Your Sex" seem like baby food in comparison. It's rather surprising to see this song coming from George at this point in his career, because what he's really doing here is turning back to clocks to the tongue-in-cheek days of early Wham!. George has been determinted to mature musically over the years, and he has done so to terrific effect, and yet "Freeek!" ranks with "Wham! Rap" & other tracks from Wham!'s debut album as the most over-the-top thing George has ever done. And being the incredible artist he is, George stunningly pulls it off. With the computer terminology of the track, "Freeek!" is obviously about cybersex, and it's done in a wonderfully intense way, and yet with George's tongue firmly in cheek. Some may indeed cry "sell out" and/ or find this to be a regression for Michael, because if you're looking for the rewarding sophistication that's in abundance on his "Older" album, forget it. But what the hell, this is an irresistible track--the way George pulls it off is characteristic of his enormous talent, yet it's still beyond all belief. One thing though that I can't forget to mention is that George is still in absolute peak form vocally here.
As for the remixes, they're all more uptempo than the original, & predictably they each have their flaws, yet surprisingly, they're all solidly enjoyable, though they all lack the fire of the original, giving them a background music quality, something I don't mean as an insult. Perhaps unintentionally, the three "Freeek!" remixes end up easing nicely into the closing track, a soothing live version of "The Long And Winding Road" which is very nice, not least due to the typically excellent vocal performance from Michael--did Paul McCartney ever sing this so well?
This 5 track version of the "Freeek!" single is clearly the ideal one to have, giving you everything that you'd get over the course of the other 2 versions combined--either way, no true George Michael fan should be without it/ them.
I love Freeeks.......2002-08-10
I saw this video in Rome in April and fell in love with the song. I hope it makes its way to the US!!

wow........2002-07-31
well, what can you say? george just keeps getting better and better! a great dance single with a smart, 21st century twist that cleverly intergrates sly jabs at the state of modern media with tongue-in-cheek references to george's own personal history. there is a lot going on here, both aurally and lyrically - certainly a step up from what one finds in the average pop song these days. bravo george.
George is back!!.......2002-04-19
True to form, George Michael pushes the sexual envelope again with this tantalizing single. Like he proved in the clever 1998 single "Outside", George is taking his public bathroom PR nightmare and being very tongue-in-cheek about it.
The single itself, and the Max Reich mix, are enough to make you want to go out and dance until dawn with a lusty stranger.
But the REAL reason to get this version of FREEEK! is George's stunning cover of "The Long and Winding Road". It's a live recording and George is in BEAUTIFUL voice. His exploits and risque lyrics have often overshadowed the fact that he has one of, if not THE, best male voice in pop music. I can't wait for his next album, but until then, this funky single and gorgeous cover are plenty enough to satisfy.
Wow !! Well Done George.......2002-04-04
What an excellent piece of work. Our artist, George, by releasing his first single on Polydor he clearly makes his statement in the world of Pop : "Now I am Back!" The track itself is a masterpiece of dance music and it comes in a great pack with nice artwork. The video of the single is absolutely fantastic.
But the best part is the extra track Long & Winding Road, recorder live in UK. It clearly presents George's vocal achievements & emotion. Personally, I prefer the CD2 than the CD1 due to this track's existense.
No need to think about it. Go out & buy it !

Very freaky song..........2002-09-08
`For the record, I really like George Michael and his music, but this song... I didn't like it at all. Lyrics is very cheesy, video is overproduced, something that Michael Jackson would make. I really don't care for mixes in this single. I guess justifying the "bathroom incident" with Outside was not enough, and he lowered himself to remind listeners that he is a freak (or "freeek" or whatever). Sound is certainly new and I like it. It sounds like he picked up from Faith era to`` sound more like Prince, but I really don't think I need anymore songs to confirm that he is a "sexual freak." He already made his point long time ago. Why bother reminding it again and again. On the good note, Freeek 2 CD is far superior single since it has "The Long & Winding Road," beautiful song truly showing his beautiful voice.`
This Song Rocks! :P.......2002-08-04
Seomthing sexy, you can dance too, call me happy.. As for the pervious reviewer speaking of a totally other single, grow up.. this is America, we are free to express ourselves... Get this CD, it's freeky! :P
Shoooort changed.......2002-07-12
Mr Michael is not without ego. In the video for the soon not to be released in the US single 'Shoot The Dog', he not only deems himself worthy of standing next to the likes of President Bush and Prime-Minister Blair on the Whitehouse lawn, but is conspicuously taller than both of them put together. The ridiculing of his polemic he attributes to homophobia over a brush with the law that happened four years ago. I think it's his lack of contrition that bothers people, as illustrated by his less than edifying dance routine around some urinals in another would-be 'controversial' video. After all, if you have no respect for the rule of law, it's a bit rich to start worrying about the state of democracy. Perhaps it is this perceived homophobia that makes Mr Michael refer to himself as a 'sexual freeek!' On this CD. I saw the video for it in a megastore the other day and was therefore able to listen without prejudice. Well, I didn't have much choice. And I must say I rather liked it in a teutonic sort of way. I think they call it techno. Short for techno-lolology. Here, Mr Michael wisely steers clear of politics and shakes his not inconsiderable booty and periclinal moustache in what looks like some sort of cyber-space universe. In cyber-space you can be anyone and anything can happen. Perhaps in this universe Britain is a superpower on equal par to America, thus satisfying the conditions for Tony Blair to form an alliance with George Bush, with Mr Michael's permission, of course. Remember, as you will not be seeing in the 'Shoot The Dog' video, the pecking order is God then George then the other, lesser known George and then the dog and then Tony. Even then, I expect God to appear shorter in stature to Mr Michael. However, I'm sure that if you are in the right mood, that is in a tank crossing the Polish border, you may find yourself charmed by this little ditty. It goes *Chud-chud-chud*, something like that. And if you don't like it you can appease your good taste with the certain knowledge that in the Matrix you can always unplug people. Then they [pass on]. Simple really, politics. Sexual, or otherwise.
Wake up, George!.......2002-06-22
I've been a fan of George since 1984 and I'm used to his ever changing style, his beautiful remixes and everything but here with the scumfrog mixes, he turns it into a complete failure and I'm relieved not to have purchased this. The original version of the song is a delight...once you get used to it and it really gets into your mind but those mixes are just awful, the beautiful voice is removed and it is only noise basically. I am very surprised that George blames the record company for the failure of this single when in fact he is to be blamed for having it remixed by that bunch of talentless guys. Come on now, George, listen to those mixes and wake up!
