No need to waste time making a mixtape for your next blues bash--just throw on this disc and let Elvin Bishop be your host for a night of rollicking fun. Bishop has traditionally been known for bouncy shows that incorporate both the deep blues he cut as an original member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and the country-styled soul he gravitated to as one of the Capricorn label's popular Southern rock acts in the '70s. You can practically see his goofy grin and wild eyes as he knocks back an hour's worth of highlights from a 2006 show. Accompanied by a sympathetic eight-piece band that includes three background vocalists and a trombonist who also plays rubboard, this is a nonstop party that doesn't even slow down for the topical, politically based ruminations of "What the Hell Is Going On," one of only two tracks reprised from his appropriately titled 2005 comeback Gettin' My Groove Back. The slow blues of "Belly Rubbin'" and the opening instrumental "Stomp" spotlight Bishop's impressive guitar chops, but this is truly a group effort. He turns lead vocals over to other band members for three tracks, and if he's not enjoying himself as much as the audience, he ought to be nominated for an Oscar instead of a Grammy. Bishop cherry-picks "Stealin' Watermelons" from his early years, but generally sticks to fresh tunes and unusual covers such as Roy Milton's humorous "Keep a Dollar in Your Pocket" and Junior Parker's frisky "I Feel Alright Again." Let the booty bumpin' begin! --Hal Horowitz

It is also a chance to experience the growth and polishing of the band over the years. Disk One seems to have a slightly odd sound mix and is a little rough around the edges. I don't recall that from the concert, but memory fades with age...and it was just such a thrill to see and hear people make such amazing music! Thank you Brian!!!
I do, however distinctly remember the Phoenix concert that was similar to Disk Two...and this is pretty darn close. Brian's musical and vocal talent is truly a gift. It is reproduced beautifully with all of the highs, lows, growls, and yodels! Bernie Dresel is amazing as usual. He is the king of drummers and has some great features on Disk 2 that will confound and bewilder anyone who understand what it takes to produce that percussion.
Since you can't buy a lifetime of live BSO concerts (too bad), buy this collection. It is a totally different experience than the studio albums and worth every cent!

This is a dazzling recital, taped live at Carnegie Hall in November 2003--complete with applause. Lang Lang's virtuosity is almost frightening: the Liszt "Reminiscenses du Don Juan" is a showpiece when played "normally." Here, Lang plays it to its extremes, with soft passages amazingly soft and subtly delineated and the bigger moments heaven-thundering. And it is played so fast, and so accurately (a cascade of notes in mid-"La ci darem la mano" sounds like a waterfall), that it leaves the listener breathless--surely just what Liszt wanted. In a Haydn sonata, Lang's classical line is impeccable, but he's not afraid to shine through the music and embellish occasionally. The Schumann "Traumerei" is suitably dreamy and hushed; Schubert's "Wanderer" Fantasy, a real crowd-pleaser, is just that--beautifully played, familiar yet fresh sounding. And an encore, with Lang's father playing a two-string fiddle called the erhu, is a fascinating look into Eastern music. There's more (this is a 2-CD set), and it's stunning--and highly recommended for all admirers of great piano playing. --Robert LevineCustomer Reviews:
Worst Wanderer Fantasy EVER?.......2007-02-14
His Schubert is garbage. Let him stick to playing Chinese compositions unknown to Western audiences, because virtually none of us will have any way of drawing comparisons between his interpretation and that of others. I can only assume that his interpretation of Dun Tan is the definitive version --- but I doubt it.
Pianistic Glory at its best!!!!.......2006-11-07
I have read several of the 'negative' reviews here and can only conclude (after viewing the DVD four times and counting) that what may be going on with these folks is something they themselves simply don't understand (about themselves!). They cannot or will not accept that here with Lang Lang, as with Evgeny Kissin (ever notice?) the world is being introduced to the next and even greater generation of pianistic virtuosos, young prodigies who can do everything that Horowitz and even Lizst ever did and more... I have no doubt those two would agree were they alive today. Karajan wept (for joy)when he heard the young Kissin perform Chopin's Fantasy in F# minor, Mehta was so taken with Kissin's performance under his baton that he could not refrain from hugging the young boy after a stellar performance... Andre Watts, not often praising his contemporaries, mused about finding the nearest bridge to jump off after hearing Kissin play realizing he was not in the same league and one other recent winner of an International Competition had to pull his car over to the side of the road, he was so taken with Kissin.... yes, I know it seems like I forgot we are talking about Lang Lang.... Lang Lang can do everything Kissin can and maybe more...Are we to believe that these aforementioned individuals are musical idiots prone to such actions?!!
Folks! accept it, embrace it and thank God for it!... just as he did when simultaneously brought Chopin and Liszt to our world in the early 1800's (they were the same age except for a year) He has now given us another Double Blast of Pianistic Glory in Kissin and Lang Lang! Pity those who can't get beyond their envy, jealously, general jadedness with life... or whatever ails them... they need help, lots of help!
As for me and many like me (BTW, it doesnt count for much but I am a pianist myself)... we are so grateful and blessed to have these 2 young men and the miracle of DVD technology to bring their concerts right into our living room!
An outstanding performance and story of a child prodigy.......2006-06-14
Most Impressive!.......2006-05-18
Trust the peanut gallery? Or trust experts. Your choice ..........2006-01-05
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echo_Klassik
o About this Carnegie Hall recording? The one given some pretty bad reviews from the peanut gallery? Well, the recording won a 2005 Amadeus Austrian Music Award. And a DVD of this recital with documentary footage won the 2005 "Music DVD of the Year" Echo Klassik Award.
Music has always been interpretive and a vital mark of virtuosity is having your own voice - Lang has his own voice and he masterfully distinguishes himself with it. Lang is a refreshing draft of fresh air in a typically stagnant arena. Technically, the kid can flat out play. Period. Interpretively, he is bold, unafraid, and lets it all hang out.
Nuff said ...
Cheers!

Nice, Elegant Restatement of their repertoire..........2007-05-02
The recording starts out with one of the essential Metheny/Mays pieces, "Have You Heard?". The solos and passages are faithful to the original but really no real surprises except for a slightly different feel due to the live environ.
"First Circle" is one of their masterpieces and an album highlight. Again done very true to form. Just beautiful and this one should be left alone because this piece is unique in it's scope, vision and beauty. Lyle takes his solo in excellent form.
"Last Train Home" was actually better than the studio version that was done in "Still Life (Talking)". That feel, that attracted you to this piece in the first place is much more urgent here. Aznar provides a subtle vocal embellishment and you feel the plaintive, wistfulness of the piece. Steve Rodby's bass is essential to this.
"Better Days Ahead" - This version is much better than in "Letter From Home". Paul Wertico's backbeat, Lyle's piano solo and Pat's guitar solos are more expressive and frankly better than in the original. I find myself skipping the original version in "Letter From Home" but listing to this one with much more interest
"Third Wind" - done very nicely with a bit of a different feel since Pedro is a different kind of vocalist than Ledford and Blamires. His tones rounder and so the vocal sections not quite with that edge when he hits that loooonnnnnggggggg note. The group interplay is excellent coming off the break. They really cook.
Very nice live recording.
EUROPIAN VACATION.......2006-11-08
Since that time, one has to pick Metheny's albums carefully. There seems to be drive, which one guesses is an occupational hazard among popular jazz musicians, to prove to your contemporaries that you indeed are "artistic" and a deadly serious creative type. After all, no one wants to be regarded as another Kenny G. What comes out is this earnest, edgy stuff appreciated by aficionados of "deep jazz"--otherwise known as "pure music". Whatever the effect these immersions have on peer respectability, they sell very few records. They also have the lethal effect of persuading the general public that jazz is not for them.
Fortunately, THE ROAD TO YOU has none of impulses to bow to the jazz elite. This is an excellent record full of the most loved pieces in the Metheny catalogue. The live performances and the mixing are about all you could ask for given the recording art of the time. THE ROAD TO YOU is also absent any traces of one of Metheny's favorite guitar-synth sounds I lovingly call "the raging elephant". There have been several great Metheny albums since this recording and he continues to draw an ever larger fan base. But you could do much worse than starting here. It any so bad for us long time fans either.

I've been listening to Pat for about 20 years now.....I'm 40 so thats half of my life....... I've seen him in several concerts and also had the pleasure of meeting him in NY at J&R Music World where I got his Autograph! I wish that I weren't nervous because I would have hugged him..... I did shake his though.
He's the only musician the I can say I LOVE. His music reaches my soul like no other.....period.
Five Stars does not do this art justice........2006-05-20
From where Metheny and his group members,
(of a common soul, I'd almost swear,
playing different tools from the same heart
with different fingers) take me and took
European audiences on this album,
I would have titled it "Levitation."
Music, well composed and performed, built
and played with care, love, creativity
and talent, takes me places that approach
ecstatic.
With this work on the audiograph I am
transported places VERY few other musicians
have ever taken me close to, in any genre.
I can only compare it to feeling lifted up
and floating, being held aloft--levitated--
by Pat's group, working together so tightly
while flowing, like liquid, over and through
the songs' melodies, arrangements, rhythms.
Listening, right now, to this CD's version of
the Metheny-Mays standard "First Circle."
Am in the clouds! Think it's just my opinion?
Listen to the crowd! Damn!
Those big, blocky Mays chords.
Buy the album. Put it in a car's player.
Turn it up!!! You will thank me.
You will thank those 6 guys.
You won't want to get where you're going.

Walter Trout is not about tastefulness and subtlety--he is about ferocious intensity, exhilarating speed, and raw energy. This double-disc set (at single-disc price) presents Trout's complete, unedited performance from the March 2000 Tampa Bay Blues Fest (where they say he upstaged headliner Susan Tedeschi), and it is truly a thrilling ride. Running on adrenaline after a sleepless day and night traveling, Trout rolls through heavy blues rockers, slow 12-bars, soulful groovers, and even a Dylan cover. To be sure, this is pure blow-your-mind, "guitar god" kind of stuff that many blues purists may not enjoy. There are definitely times that Trout's incessant over-the-top style becomes slightly tedious, and there's not much in the way of originality, unless you count the fact that few others are even capable of such supersonic licks and unearthly tones. Still, despite the lack of a truly distinctive sound, Trout's ability to consistently fan the flames is amazing, and his voice, while not on a par with his guitar, is passionate and powerful. If you are a fan of pedal-to-the-metal electric blues-rock, few can match Trout in terms of sheer dexterity and drive. --Marc GreilsamerAlbum Description

The best crystal bowl cd ever? Yeah right..........2007-02-17
Frankly, I was a little surprised, I love this kind of music and my last purchase of Stephen Halpern's Crystal Bowls was disappointing to say the least as it was filled with synthesizers and other cheesy New Age effects. This one is not and I wouldn't even lump it with a New Age tag (as the product description has). It' just truly beautiful music. The resonance is wonderful and the first chakra track is great for getting me, or my space back into alignment. Simply put it on in the background and clear your space. Wonderful! The other tracks on the CD have beautiful touches including shamanic instruments like the Buffalo drums, rattles, native flutes, rain sticks and other instruments. All appropriately added, expertly played and NO New Age cheese. What's interesting about it is that the CD recorded in one evening with no manipulations. I love reading books and listening to audio of people that have opened their heart - you can feel that in the work... in a similar way I think this is transmitted through music and it most definately is here.
I have since recommended and raved about this CD to all my friends. If you're a healer with a practice, you're going to want it for background music or just clearing your space. For everyone else, it's wonderful for relaxation and coming back into balance (put on your headphones for a real treat) or just some soothing music to play after a hard day or most definately for people who are not feeling well.
Other crystal bowl CDs I like include Benjamin Iobst Seven Metal Singing Bowls of Tibet and Crystal Voices by Deborah Van Dyke. Daniel Goleman's work is also fantastic - Chakra Dance, Chakra Chants and his Om CD (although all his work is good).
I highly recommend this beautiful CD. There are extra touches, with different instruments so if you're using it purely for meditation, that may distract you (as some other reviewers seem to have experienced). That is, I guess, a matter of personal preference - some people would be okay with the other instruments. It's the kind of CD where you that makes you go and buy everything the artist has ever produced. Of the hundreds of the healing type CDs I have, this is, and will remain, well and truly at the top of the heap. This might just be... the best crystal bowl CD ever!
Very good for meditation.......2007-01-11

"BANGER* FOR BREAKFAST", is Wicked Tinker's fourth attempt at music recording. It's live and raw - like you'll usually find us at the Scottish Highland Games. "Banger" originally started out with 60 hours of music recorded live across the country. We whittled it down to a couple hours of our greatest hits. This first of two CDs, is a bunch of favorites snatched from our three previous releases, with ten new tunes thrown in to boot. All this in one tribal-thumping CD.
